  • Lee Juan Yew is widely regarded as the founding father of modern Singapore. As Prime Minister for 31years from 1959 to 1990, he led Singapore to independence and transformed the economy from the third world to first. In giving his approval for the publication of this video, Mr Lee urged that newcomers to meditation ‘must believe in it and they must practise it, even though they do not succeed at the early stages.

Although this was somewhat hard to watch (I had never seen Lee Kuan Yew in such a frail state), it was nonetheless revealing to see a different side of him where he looked serene, as someone that had found peace within himself. Thank you for sharing.

back to listening to this in 2020, and while LKY was old in 2013 and slurred in his speech, his sentences flowed smoothly still and words were chosen carefully. Also, Father Freeman was such such a gentle and respectful interviewer here. What a lovely recording.

It's because of Rev Fr Laurence Freeman that now my parish of Holy Family integrates meditation before mass. But no matter what religion you have it's a good way to pray or get settled in peace.

It really means a lot when you hear greatest personality LKY uses meditation as a daily tool to manage stress and take a pause when making imp decision. Love for LKY you will always be remembered for your contribution to world till eternity.

Some ppl spend their lifetime seeking power, wealth & fame but only to lose them all when one dies - they are but temporary- they offer no real gratification for the heart all these is never enough cos it will cannot gratifies the heart.. but the MOST pathetic thing is to died without knowing God. It is God who can carry u into another world- He is the One who is eternal & whom ppl who know better should seek

He's saying how there is this "true person"/God within us that we don't realize. All of us are God. The kingdom of Christ is within us. Meditation subdue the ego mind that is thinking about himself and our true Self reveal itself. It has always been there, but we never aware of It.
It's the same thing over and over again spoken of in sacred texts, sutras and Bible. It was never about religion, your god my god.

Meditation is not easy, have to clear your mind from backwardness, good thought, after many practices of meditation, you will definitely experience calmness, when walking outside, you also observe peoples were minding his own business. it's good to meditation.

25 minutes of meditation? Before you reach the state of stillness, time is up! Even for the experienced practitioner of meditation, he will need 10 - 20 minutes or more to reach the state of emptiness of mind, and being able to be undisturbed by worldly thoughts, it will take many years of consistent practice. Meditation is for everyone, but not everyone could achieve it - clear selfless state of mind(了了分明的本来面目 - 灵知).

LKY was already 90 by now. Despite his frail, gaunt appearance and his slurred speech, notice that his thought coherence is intact. Such logical analysis. It was such a brilliant thing when he said, imagine if Hitler had done meditation, would he done such a "wild and dangerous" thing as to invade Western Europe and Russia at the same time, to underscore his point on the importance of meditation to good decision making.

LKY wasn't someone i admire as he had done quite a lot of harm to s'pore (esp ordinary Chinese s'poreans desp their sacrifices), though not obvious , but he did reflect & acknowledge some ,so give him some credit...he was better than the current PAP for sure.

Whatever religion one believes in, one does not practise benevolence, kindness and forgiveness to other human beings, one's conscience will prick him/her.
This sight is not pleasant! Based on his 'great deeds for a nation', this should not be the look to be seen by the world. There is no sign of serenity in the soul. The Thai king looked equally frail but pleasant.
Buddhism talks about '舍利子' which appears in the cremated body of a wise person. I wonder if any was found in this so called 'wise' man?
The abbot at Bright Hill was found with more than a hundred of these 舍利子 in his cremated body.
