- His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Laurence Freeman OSB met on 12 January 2013, in Sarnath, India, for a day of Dialogue. They discussed Jesus and the Buddha and what discipleship means in an increasingly secular world. In this talk, the Dalai Lama speaks about his personal understanding of the Buddha.

As a Christian, I respect Buddha and Jesus! Buddhism taught me how to live on a realistic level. I know, not a common thing for a Christian to say :)

People will believe what they want to or not believe at all. It's their choice. For me I must humble myself before God. Accept Jesus Christ as my personal savior inorder to unluck the Gates of heaven. Then I must humble myself before God's people and do what Jesus did while he was on the earth. To tell the truth about my savior Jesus Christ. That he will forgive our sins if I believe in him as the true son of God. Which I do. I will be hated and mocked for my belief, but I will stand strong on the rock of my church. the body of Christ will survive this world until the coming of my savior Jesus Christ. People who say they have compassion will save a dog but would not move a finger for fellow human beings. I have seen that time and again. Compassion has become the most meaninless world in the dictionary. Now a days, compassion is the gargarism of intellectual crowd totally ignorant of the sacrifices made by previous generation to give comfort and arrogance to this present generation. Dear Paul, you are not just a thinking species, you are the only one of your kind, and you did not transition from the animal realm, your faculties as a human being did not transition from non reasoning to reasoning. You are beautifully and wonderfully made, at the image of God. A God that loves you and that you can meet if you so wishes. And not in the after life, but right now, because He love human kind and made a way for them to know Him. Do you really want to know what eternity is, then meet your God and maker.

I am enriched after listening to some of the dialogues - Iook forward to listening to the others I am going through very difficult personal circumstances in terms of relationships,unemployment, financial problems - I seem far away from my Buddha nature or centre of gravity in Jesus but I think this has given me the impetus to renew my commitment to follow the Way and do what I can to develop my good heart and be transformed in the midst of all the darkness which is enveloping me at present.
Dear Lonan, quit trying so hard and turn you life to Jesus. Quit struggling and trying to attain something that only God can give you. Jesus died so you wouldn't have to carry the weitght of your life. You are just a sinner (imperfect ) just like the rest of us. God offers us forgiveness for all the lies we say, the things we steal , the insults we adress if we are sincerely sorry. Jesus paid the penalty for all that. In him is real peace, real joy and not only the anguish of trying and never attaining. I love you my friend.

Here is the difference between the Buddha and Christ. Buddha was a person who sought for the way and the truth. Jesus IS the way and the truth. The buddha is a great man he looked for the mystery and found it. Christ is the mystery incarnate as a man. The word Dao means Way but also means word and is considered the source of life. It is that from which all things spring and to which all things will rest. Jesus is the way the life and the truth. From whom all things were made and whom shall bring eternal life and rest. If we take these two philosophies at face value and say that the Dao is what the mystics say that it is and that Jesus is who he says that he is; then logically Jesus would have to be a human incarnation of the Dao and if that is true then he is who he says he is.

I believe in Buddhism.
Buddha and Jesus teaches us to do good. The difference is Jesus claimed to be God. He died for our sins n rose again on the 3rd day. He says "I am the way, the truth and the life, nobody goes to the Father except through me.
Jesus only presented the path of bhakti, or devotion. He is saying, follow me, it will happen. Buddha is using knowledge, or jnana. He says you have to reach there yourself. They're both the same consciousness, only the path and how they present themselves is diffrent
I don't know as much about Buddha, but it is suggested that one 'Be Jesus' rather than just follow him. I understand it to mean: Embody goodness as much as possible.☀️❤️🙏

@@sahil8024 You're conflating two different things here. A buddhahood is a final stage pf liberation, something of sorts Vedanta knows as a jivanmukti. That is indeed a stage that anybody who meets the requirements can achieve and become a buddha. But there also is The Buddha - The historical Buddha Sakyamuni. The distinction is apparent from the context, if you listen carefully.
Sakyamun's or Gautama' s birthplace who later became Awakened One or the Buddha was Nepal - Lumbini but when he got awakened to his true nature he became the Buddha who has no birth and no death! We are all Buddhas in foundation but if we are ignorant and thinking we are separate Ego beings we are asleep dreaming so have birth and death. When we awaken to our true nature - Buddha nature we are Buddhas with no birth and no dying

Jesus is the Holy one, the son of God, the one who can give our soul an eternity life in heaven., and Buddha is just human who libirated himself, seeks to understand deeper meaning of life on earth and how to surpass the human suffering,. Therefore Buddhas work and practice is very appropriate for the life of human on earth. But we must also understand that we human just live one earth temporarily, where our final destination is heaven and the one and only who can help us go to heaven is Jesus Christ,. And buddhist should also learn more about the heaven.
Kelvin Romero , looks like your knowledge of Buddhism is not too much. Buddha taught there are 10 realms. 6 desire realms consist of hells, animals, ghosts, human, asuras and heavens (there are six heavens). Comparing the descriptions, Christian and Islam's heavens are within the 6 heavens in desire realm. Beyond these heavens there are the form heavens and beyond there are formless heavens unseen by celestial beings in desire heavens. Beyond that there are buddhalands and ultimately Nirvana. Buddha teaching went far beyond heavens. And Buddhists are advised to aim for buddhaland as all heavens are still within the grip of birth and death. Why we know Christian god or Allah are still within desire realm? Just look at the characters described in your holy book...they still have anger, pleasure, likes, dislikes etc..these are desires hence can't escape beyond desire realms.
You don't sound, "ecumenical" enough! However, you are absolutely right! The Dalai Lama is an intelligent, moral, calm& peaceful man, but he was created by Jesus Christ! There is only ONE person who overcame death! His name is Jesus Christ! And before anyone "attacks" me for saying this,, let me add that I am NOT able to send people to hell for what they believe!
If you say the Buddha is just a human being then the Jesus was also a human being walking the earth, teaching... no matter how you name his life path or his mission or birth. But if you say Buddha the awakened one was and recognised out true nature than he was the son of god or better the son of True nature which we all are. Difference is just in a talent we have to quickly or slowly realise this and then we too become a son of God so to speak. We are all sons and daughters of God as the spark of God is in all of us. Jesus was awakened on Buddha way in buddhist terminology and Buddha was Gods son in Christian terminology

I'll wager if the Buddha was asked that question if he was better than another person? He's answer would be,"No"! We all are one, so how could one be better than another, different but not superior. Now if you ask me what religion would benefit humanity better? Buddhism or Christianity? I would lean to Buddhism because of meditation but all orthodox religions are past it's usefulness.
Before comparing, you will have to define or know what Christianity is.

Jesus was god in human form and God is a jealous god, he demands no other gods before him. Jesus is the only mediator between human beings and God. And the real Jesus is not a religion but rather a relationship, a personal relationship.

No one is Good except God.
Jesus brought the Kingdom of God to Earth. He will return.
He did not bring a religion.
Jesus fully man fully God.
Jesus preached repentance and the Kingdom of God,
He taught how you enter into that Kingdom.
He died laying down his life for humanity. he rose from the dead.
So that man's rebellion could be paid in full.
No other leader died for their followers, no other leader claimed to be God.

Imo opinion the Jesus and the Buddha thought the same message just jesus was brought up in an abrahamic traditions and Buddha a non dualistic approach both can lead to enlightnemnt it might take christians longer to wake up but some still do and( all do at death )and realize we are all one there is no sperate you you cannot seperate yourself from the universe. The only problem I have with modern chritianity religion is the bastardization of his teaching by the rabbic tradition jesus woke up like buddha the only difference is the rulers reaction rulers around Jesus said he can be the only one to acheive this god state bc it would threaten our rule and Buddhist say everyone can Buddhism is like a democratic Christianity wheres as in modern christianity is more of a totalitarian state where one man can acheive this states hes in charge and your not it.. Buddha was a Jivanmukta. Just look at the teachings and realization of Raman Maharishi, you''ll see a live embodiment of buddhahood within the advaita-vedanta tradition. Or Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa - a luminous jewell of the highest enlightenment, knowledge and divine authority. The final fruition is identical, regardless of the tradition.
