CAR Magazine yes indeed, sprint blue saloon, only 60k on the clock. Cracking weekend car, nowhere near as fast as the modern stuff but plenty quick enough for uk roads, and the fun you have along with the sound of the milltek exhaust more than makes up for any shortfalls.
Can you say why you didn't match the cars i.e. M5 v RS6. Surely matching the modified, lightened and tuned M5 competition up to the Base RS6 is saying the standard car is not good enough for this test. Also it would have been better testing the RS6 with Steel colis and adaptive dampers widely thought to be the better set up overall. Will you rematch the tuned M5 competition against the RS6 performance when it arrives.
The M5 is no longer available to order in the UK. We will be testing the RS6 Performance (or whatever it might be called) when/if it is launched. The press car we were allocated had the air suspension, but given one of the RS6's biggest strengths over the BMW is its comfort - and the steel coils aren't as comfortable as air - we highly doubt it would have changed the result. Something which has been echoed by our testers who have driven both the M5 Comp, RS6 with air suspension and RS6 with steel coils.
@@CARmagazineTV You guys have a 25 year old guy, who in crude terms, praises the M5 for turn in, handling and acceleration... and have cited that the major part of the RS6s appeal is its ability to be more comfortable than the M5...Lol, what about build quality, storage size and practicality, Grand Tourer ability... design and road presence and lastly the total package, ie which car does the best job at the most number of things...because the M5 really does not shine at being an all in daily driver.... in fact, as a daily driver you are better off with a 550xi. I am sorry, but as someone whose owned both (rs6 and m5 comp) - among 10 other cars currently, what appeals to a veritable kid, is not what appeals to actual buyers of these vehicles...He probably doesnt have kids, he definitely doesnt have a second home to lug things to, he doesnt care if a car can be a quiet luxury car in traffic, thats supple... he simply cares if the car feels racy, lairy and chavvy when hes up it. Part of the reason I sold the M5c, is that its turned into a Chav/drug dealer trinket... the market probably concurs, considering M5s now have such woeful resale - particularly in comparison to the RS6. Firstly, the fit and finish of these cars are light years apart... the dashboard alone of the M5 for me was the bane of my ass, the buttons would peel, it had cheap silver hard plastics... the RS6 comparatively is like a bank vault... you can feel its got carry over from its Bentley/porsche brethren... An $2m a year executive is more likely to want a Flying spur in a wagon type practicality with a mix of grunt and excitement, than a 2 tonne car trying to be an M2 competition... which brings me to the Turn in of the M5.. yes it is more direct, but in daily driving, the steering is actually irritating, the wheel has nowhere for your thumbs to rest, and when you are driving around town, the short lock makes the thing simply too eager...its fucken annoying... When I was 25, sure I may have like it, but I didnt have the option to take out my 911 Touring for a fang... Re suspension... I opted for the MRC steel coils, and it gives the car far more composure through challenging B roads - without sacrificing that much comfort... The M5 simply does not handle fast b roads well - try driving the car at speed over broken road, its twitchy as hell... the car has a clutch plate haldex like awd connection... not an torsen centre diff awd system - The M5 loses traction far quicker than the Audi does... If you live in snow or tough terrain, the M5 is not up to the job. So more importantly and existentially - at what point is there a connect between your opinions and what owners think - and im not talking about 25 year olds who live at home and lease one of these for 1 year, before going broke or writing them off - I am talking about intended target audience.
The BMW is so bland to look at. The M5 is faster but it’s not as practical. RS6 is better looking it’s a great all day package. Not sure whether to wait for the RS6 performance....
You could drop either in my driveway and I’d be thrilled but I’d want to keep the Audi just that bit more and for me Audi have really nailed the door shut on the aggressive elegance look and I’d always want to look back at it that little bit more after finishing driving for the day (particularly in that colour).
Edijs Benoit You could drop either in my driveway and I’d be happy but I drive a 2008 Renault Laguna 😂 which is fine for everyday use but my bike would beat either which I could buy 20 of for these cars
M5 would win by a half second on the track, but how many owners of these will actually track their cars or drive at 10/10? So for 95% of the time, the RS6 is the more usable machine. Plus the RS6 looks better, has a better interior, is more practical and comfortable as a daily driver. RS6 for me thanks.
The RS6 is a head turner and you hardly see any about so they’re definitely much more appealing. M5 is now almost as practical now it’s AWD but lost a bit of its soul by copying Audi with AWD.
How’s it copying so all the manufactures that have awd copied Audi ? Can the Audi go into rwd from awd ? I agree with everything else besides you saying they’re copying
Romik Patel not saying they’re copying but they just looked and realised that Audi had a product that was good all year round and was generally always quicker in a straight line.
@@matrics753 lol, Quite the contrary, you have to actually have owned BMWs to know that from the E90 onwards build quality has gone to the dogs... luckily ive owned more Beemers than youve had hot dinners. Furthermore, Ive owned both cars tested - sold the Comp for the RS6 because it was constantly in the shop and has some of the worst fit and finish I've experienced...and I own Vintage Alfas + Ferraris...so thats saying something... During the course of one year, I Replaced multiple dash buttons, replaced awd clutch plate, had gearbox lurching, creeping... short shifting and LC not working constantly... Go knock one out over the picture of one you have on your wall...I dont understand fanboys - when you grow up, youll realise, if you can afford to, you no longer need to show blind allegiance to a particular brand - you merely buy the car that is best at the time.
Both amazing cars and both very fast, not really to sure any arguments of 0.4 of a second on a 0-60 run make any difference at all in the real world... yes the M5 Comp is slightly quicker but anyone who actually cares about that will never own ether of them bar in the dreams.... for me the M5 still looks like a sleeper and when spending £100k on a super family car you'd want people to know It's a beast not a sleeper that looks like any other 5 series bar a few differences (quad tips, V8 sound, and slightly more stance).... Now, the RS6 is not by any means a sleeper with its aggressive looks, flared haunches (Arches) deeper V8 grumble, new lines, bigger wheels, much bigger grills and the Oval exhausts I'd just a game changer.... In my opinion BMW missed a trick when it came to styling, all the literally needed to do what give the M5 wider aches and it would have been perfect.... RS6 wins for me.... disclaimer for all those fan boys out there, I am a BMW fan, owner and have been for over 15 years... I have owned 1x e90 330d 2010, 1x e90 335i 2011, 1x 335d f30 2013, and lastly but not least the e92 V8 M3 Comp 2012....
that Audi looks stupid. Wayy to aggressive for an estate wagon. The performance the rs6 brings is disappointing too. Cost same as e63 or m5 only to be .5 sec slower.
@Latvietis96 and who buys a BMW M5 just to take it to the autobahn.. I care more about the overall dally usefull and the utility of a car.. Snow wet dry and occasionally some twisty roads and thats why the RS6 was is still a much better package and thats why BMw felt the pressure to go AWD otherwise there was no competition and the rest of the automobile companys are going AWD cuz audi was is dominating..
@Latvietis96 😂 hahahahahahahahahaha thats your comeback.. More and more merc and bimmer drivers are switching to audi my friend.. Thats just to show you whats better. But whatever go buy your bimmer if you can afford one and geton w your life cocky bimmer fan boy..
F90 m5 is a dreamcar wow. Coming from a f10 550i owner. The rs6 is the most beautiful estate ever and the new rs7 2021 type. Is the most beautiful car ever made in history.
That's the problem of the Audi, that 4 litre twin turbo is close to maxed out already, it just doesn't have the engine capacity to compete with the M5 or the E63. It is what it is and there is nothing Audi can do about it unless they change the engine in future. Other than that, the RS6 Avant is far better looking and is an estate, as such I would still take the Audi. Not quite sure why BMW is not making the Touring version for the M5.
17:23 That’s complete bs. Buying a saloon or estate like that has to be useful, a good daily, just a perfect Allrounder. It doesn’t have to be perfect on the track, nobody cares wether the lap time is e.g 2:56 or 2:59. (And 99% of the buyers will never take it to a track). Wanting just perfect performance, people with that much money available will buy eg a 911, R8, AMG GTR or even a Huracan. A RS6 and M5 has to be fast and stunning to drive (both are) and good to use every day. For me the RS6 wins that, but both are great cars and some awesome allrounders!
I'm sorry, I don't agree with this at all and instead agree with the journalist. There's many of us who prioritise performance but want practicality too, and cars like the M5 Comp and E63S offer that. Both the M5 and the E63 are useful, daily driveable all rounders, it's just they're also more playful, aggressive and dynamic than the RS6, which as he said, you want if you're spending £100k on a sports saloon. Else you'd just buy an S6, 540i or E53 instead. And no, people who want that much performance won't just buy a 911 Turbo or Lambo instead, because those cars don't have the practicality of these sports saloons. Ultimately, the goal is to have something that'll beat a Porsche in a straight line or keep up in a race, whilst simultaneously being practical, and the M5 and E63 do that slightly better than the RS6. That said, they're all incredible cars, but for me personally I'm getting the E63S next, as it sits between the M5 Comp and RS6 in performance and dynamism, but has by far the most theatre and fun factor thanks to the incredible AMG V8 exhaust notes and extravagant interior.
Actually it makes perfect sense as you want to be able to move your arms as much as possible without taking your hands off the wheel during fast driving
Ever since the introduction of X drive on BMW M models they have been slaughtering Audis in straight line drage races which used to be the only advantage Audi RS models possesed. The last BMW M5 was a bit of a disappointment as its acceleration wasn't outstanding compared to the last Audi RS6. Now the tables have turned and like it or not BMW's M division is producing some serious machines that it makes you wonder why anyone would be silly lets say to buy an Audi RS6 over a BMW M5 aside from the practicality. The new BMW M5 sounds better, performs better in a straight line and on a track but also can be turned in a rear wheel drive hooligan. The Audi RS6 is no slouch but the drive is just not the same and now the build quality which used to be an advantage isn't much significant either in comparison as the interior in that M5 has a similar quality feel to it but is more driver focused. The Audi looks great but in some ways one could argue it may be trying too much to be imposing, this can be a good thing or bad thing depending on preference. That being said the BMW M5 competition is undeniably the best all round performance car on sale today.
Well....lets just say, X-drive dates back as early as 1984-88 at BMW so its not necessarily a new tech and then BMW poached the guy behind Quattro @ Audi, so bringing in a highly technical guy to an already existing, good system will easily get Audi out of the bracket, remember, Audi is the bastard child of the German trio, it is not known for anything except the 80s rally races, now that no leg to stand on. The M5C is no doubt a beast, but arguably still comes last soundtrack-wise, it still does not sound like a V8, infact, the m850i sounds more the business than the M5C....yes the 'child born out of wedlock' is no slouch, but this Audi has been a huge dissapointment and truth be told, the perfomance pack will barely make much of a difference...
@@duffydon1741 The sound is of the car is subjective for some but the performance on the road and paper is clear cut. Yeah BMW have had X drive earlier on but as I said ever since they implemented this technology on BMW M models its been a game changer. Just because Audi have been doing Quattro for years and won a few rallys doesn't mean they can't improve. Samsung and Apple didn't invent the hand held mobile phone but they developed it and now they are both the very best. X drive like Quattro has its benefits and weaknesses in other areas.
You nailed it. Audis advantage over both Merc and BMWs was quattro and turbos. From the very time both of its 2 rivals adopted turbos/superchargers and all wheel systems, Audi has its wooden legs cut off from the bottom.
If you think your job useless, Imaginate this guy comparing Audi with BMW Everybody know there is no chance to beat the M5. Drift king ( 8h straight drift world record ) and choose as the fastest petrol sedan in 2019
Nice comparison and well presented, pity about the drive being a wet only experience. Both awesome cars I am sure. Personally I'd have the M5- there's just something so special about it.
I just love how the M5 is a wolf in sheep's clothing. No non car enthusiast would realize it's a M5 until it's too late, they'd think it's a 520d and then be like "WTF?" when a M5 in 7th gear flies by them
These are two very different cars. The RS6 estate practicality adds to the appeal, but the M5 comes across as the driver's car. Neither the BMW or RS6 comes across as a driver's car, need to drop down to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quad (and just live with the compromises).
Or have a second car... most RS6 owners, have a second car... Lets be honest, why would you track your super saloon? Thats what 911s are for... an RS6 is infinitely better as a daily road car than the M5... I know, Im selling my comp... an utter dog to own...has the build quality of a Kia.
Owned both now (currently in the C8 RS6). The M5 is by far the more engaging drivers car - much better throttle response and modulation, more steering feel and much more intuitive to drive - but it also has a much harsher ride and is noisier. The problem for me is that I didn’t buy a big 5-seater just for outright pace, I need it to be usable with the family, and my family really didn’t like being in the M5, mainly because of the ride and the sensitive throttle. On the other hand, they love the RS6. It also looks so much better - i get far more comments about my RS6 than I ever did about the M5 - some people will prefer the sleeper looks of the M5 but I do enjoy the greater sense of occasion that the RS6 brings. My biggest gripe with the RS6 is the power delivery - as said in this review, it doesn’t feel as quick as the M5 to me, simply because of the throttle lag and torque profile. But it’s a better family car for me, hands down.
Take the RS6 any day. M5 is a beast but unfortunately you have to look at the hideous dated styling. Nobody tracks these cars. Fast grocery luxury cars. Take the one that has more room, looks like a car from this decade.
agree mate... The M5 is an utter dog - worst car ive ever owned... should never have traded my B9 RS4 in for it... 3 months of ownership and Im over it... When you are use to Audi fit and finish, you cant go back to BMW... Thank god my RS6 arrives in June :)
Pseudo nym 😅 thought I was the only one who isn’t fond of the m5 competition. I had a e63s which I hated. Cheap plastics and very hard ride so changed for m5 Comp and that was good in terms of having it new but 1 year later feels sooo dated and boring. Also had a B9 rs4 6 months did 12k miles n it was sweet I took delivery of my new rs6 2 weeks ago and it is an absolute monster and handling/driving comfort is the best I’ve ever had out of any car I’ve owned. Even previous Gen rs6 were great and very practical and fast
Pseudo nym excuse me? My 1999 e46 has less plastic than my buddies 2012 a6, granted the rs6 most definitely has nice materials on the newest one, but Audi hasn’t always been ahead on quality interior wise
@@moea1122 100% ... I also had a B9 RS4... was a much nicer car to own than the Comp... Cant wait for my RS6 to arrive - only comes in may as Ive specced some individual stuff, which apparently got it shunted back in the queue
Stupid me....I forgot the RS6 is only in estate form, and the M5 is only in salon form, aside from that they are direct competitors....ON LOOKS ALONE I'll have the RS6
If you run a survey, you’ll find that the vast majority of people prefer the RS6 by a mile! It drives better, it looks better, there’s more tech on board and is far more attractive. Just remember that the hot-vee turbo configuration on the bm, is an Audi idea!
estates elicit the idea of having more room for stuff... But who wants to pile up luggage or whatever above the rear seat back to then block rear visibility and have the potential to have that stuff come hurling at you when stopping hard or even more should you get involved in an accident. A suitcase hitting you in the back of the head at sixty miles an hour will most definitely do more than just feel bad.
JP Performance ( germany ) has bought a new Audi RS6 and he put it on the Scale, ( 2240 Kg ) i think that was to much weight, the BMW M5 has max. 2 tons.
You never really mentioned the looks, is it me or does the M5 competition look a bit.....well ordinary, straight on in some shots, its got a bit of Skoda about it too and the rear end above the bumper is bog standard rep car. The RS6 is unmistakingly different to its siblings. For me even in the non performance version I would take the RS6. I would have liked to see what the car was like in the infamous RWD mode, id wager it would be undrivable on the road and therefore is a bit of a tyre smoking gimmick surely.
I must concur with the general sentiment that this was a well done review! Having owned several BMWs and M cars, I never thought I'd switch brand, but starting with the S4 Avant B6, followed by the RS4 Avant B6, followed by the S6 Avant C6 (5.2L V10 :-), and now having an RS6 C7, I cannot see myself ever switching back.... Though I still admire M cars (which I prefer over AMG cars), I consider the RS6 the best car I've ever had -- I'm in my sixth year with it now, and it still feels fresh and up-to-date, perhaps slightly dated only in terms of interior design. I'm about to update the ECU with APR stage 1, which will put it at 680 hp and acceleration figures on par or even trumping this new M5 CS and honestly see no reason to replace it in years.
@@CARmagazineTV I know :-). Actually though, I just noticed that this figure is in bhp (American hp), which translates to 701 PS/hp in European DIN -- which would well account for its rather impressive acceleration figure of 3,3 sec 0-100 km/h (3,1 sec 0-60 mph)... However, it should be mentioned as well that the C8 uses the new EA825 engine, co-developed by Audi and Porsche and produced by Porsche, which offers significant improvements over the older EA824 engine used in the C7. Although sharing the same general configuration of 4.0L FSI V8 Twin Turbo, the newer engine has been improved in so many different aspects that I believe APR will be able to offer substantial power gains over the older engine, once they have completed their stage 1 software development for it.
Very nicely presented review, I can definitely tell you grew up watching Jeremy’s review cars. You use so much of his vocabulary and nuances, made me think I was watching a top gear review from the early 1990s, which is no bad thing at all. Keep up the great work.
I’m a VAG customer, but don’t like the dash of the new Audis - too much piano black and touch screens. BMW dash is a bit dated, but good. So, I would pick the Panamera e-hybrid Turbo S
A Real BMW fan doesn't do that Shame on you guys I worked at Mercedes Dealership after I drove all Mercedes AMG etc now I'm 100% convinced they are all crap
@Lukas believe or not long time ago I was more for mercedes, specially the 2012 c63 was my dream car same as the GTs Than I found out the first generation of the x6m racing ferrari, lamb's, rs6,.. Same for the m5 e60 a total beast. I drove all Mercedes over the years One car I didn't drove was the SLR but there was one in the garage All all of them maybach , s65 , s63 , sls ,gt , c63 you name and the quality and the performance is not the same as the BMW offers In my first 2 years I only saw 3 cars with headup display C63 , s500 and BMW f31 Lmao I mean there was once one bmw in the garage and had more options than all the other Mercedes. I'll be honest Audi has more quality than Mercedes cheap ass garbage quality. And Mercedes has more Performance than Audi BMW is 10 years ahead of all this cars
The M5 is astonishing and probably even more enjoyable but look at the RS6. I mean maybe it’s not that fast and noisy as the C7 or the C6,which were undeniably more “arrogants”,but still is amazing in her design, her engine and her technology. Then it’s up to you,Perhaps I’d choose the M5 too,to get a really fun- to-drive high-performance saloon with plenty of technology in it,even though the RS6 might be more comfortable and usable on the road and so,more proper to an usage of a “saloon car”.

RS6 is nice and all. But that M5 has a special presence on the road. 😍

Rs6 for me personally, I cannot believe bmw aren’t making an estate version, they are missing out. Though they are both incredible cars and i’d be very happy with either. I’ll stick my old v8 rs4 for now
Great car - B7?
CAR Magazine yes indeed, sprint blue saloon, only 60k on the clock. Cracking weekend car, nowhere near as fast as the modern stuff but plenty quick enough for uk roads, and the fun you have along with the sound of the milltek exhaust more than makes up for any shortfalls.
Sounds wonderful. Brilliant car. 👌We’re making a video on the B7 RS4 soon, so be sure to keep an eye out for it!
Love this RS6 configuration Navarre Blue + 22'' rims + Dynamic plus...what else...?
RS6 always good👍👍👍
Again, a very good review!
As far as the cars, the RS6 wins on looks, BMW on sportiness.
James is good. I know everyone says that but I realised that the visual is an extra with him. I was listening to what he was saying.
Thanks Bheki - glad you enjoyed. Don't forget to sub!
Really like the way you incorporate the steering feel, suspension comfort, driving style, and character of the engine and car overall in your content.
Glad you enjoyed it!
CAR Magazine sorry mate but your wrong. The optional steel springs give a much softer ride than even air suspension.
Not sure where you’ve heard that Mohammad, but afraid it’s incorrect!
Greens Player it’s not about looks, the m5 is gl for other people, m5 has a nicer interior, so if you don’t know about cars shut up
@@afegasdf76y123e in my opinion the rs6 interior looks better
Not practical? Will you try parking that Audio boat in a overcrowded city? lol
Bmw for me. Classic look. Audi looks like it trying to hard. Mega but too much
You could drop either in my driveway and I’d be thrilled but I’d want to keep the Audi just that bit more and for me Audi have really nailed the door shut on the aggressive elegance look and I’d always want to look back at it that little bit more after finishing driving for the day (particularly in that colour).
Absolutely agree.. I have new A5 sportback and I can't keep my eyes off of it. what a car
Edijs Benoit You could drop either in my driveway and I’d be happy but I drive a 2008 Renault Laguna 😂 which is fine for everyday use but my bike would beat either which I could buy 20 of for these cars

RS6 all the way
M5 would win by a half second on the track, but how many owners of these will actually track their cars or drive at 10/10?
@@g9mtkvilla perhaps theyll copy Audi again, when BMW realise their cars have the build quality of a middle level Kia
Pseudo nym you’ve clearly never owned a bmw, idiot

M5 felt the pressure to go AWD 😂 other wise there would be no competition..

One and only truth - BMW has created the best ever sedan and right now no other manufacturer can beat that. Period.
RS6 🤘🏼
I want a car that drives like the BMW and looks like the Audi 😍
M6 or M8
Assuming you mean aggressive/sporty rather than the M5's conservative/business look.
If the bmw was an estate it would not be as good but there is not much in it as it is
Yeah old M3 E46/E92 and M5 E60 had a more special look ... Audi have that covered now ... but the M5 is a more engaging car to drive ...
Why you sit so close to the steering wheel? Makes no sense to me? Weird!!!
Maybe he feels comfortable that way or has a better view being closer? Did you want him to lay down on his belly and drive?
That’s a track driver setup. Arms with about 90 degree bend. How you want to be when driving fast.
Kayden Kelly Agreed, especially rally drivers.
Because he’s 12 leave him alone lol.
@@theoneandonly6830 i actually concur with you, mostly...
@@duffydon1741 Glad we are both pretty much on the same page!
You nailed it. Audis advantage over both Merc and BMWs was quattro and turbos. From the very time both of its 2 rivals adopted turbos/superchargers and all wheel systems, Audi has its wooden legs cut off from the bottom.

would be a waste of time. bmw is at least 2 years behind mercedes and audi, sadly
Nice comparison and well presented, pity about the drive being a wet only experience. Both awesome cars I am sure. Personally I'd have the M5- there's just something so special about it.
BMW M5 easy!!
RS6
BMW forever more fun car .
M5 all day everyday, even God drives a BMW
Is it ever not raining in the. S(UK)?
I just love how the M5 is a wolf in sheep's clothing. No non car enthusiast would realize it's a M5 until it's too late, they'd think it's a 520d and then be like "WTF?" when a M5 in 7th gear flies by them
RS6 for me, everytime, I can't handle the cheap gloss black plastics in BMWs.
These are two very different cars. The RS6 estate practicality adds to the appeal, but the M5 comes across as the driver's car. Neither the BMW or RS6 comes across as a driver's car, need to drop down to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quad (and just live with the compromises).
When Merc brought the E63 AMG s to the party fight after the M5 was released people didn't get it then but now they do.
BMW amazing..😍
M5 comp all day for me. Both angry, thirsty beasts. 💙
Take the RS6 any day. M5 is a beast but unfortunately you have to look at the hideous dated styling. Nobody tracks these cars. Fast grocery luxury cars. Take the one that has more room, looks like a car from this decade.

Pseudo nym not to mention next door neighbor has a 2017 a7, also more plastic in it than my 20 year old bmw. Hm.

If you run a survey, you’ll find that the vast majority of people prefer the RS6 by a mile! It drives better, it looks better, there’s more tech on board and is far more attractive. Just remember that the hot-vee turbo configuration on the bm, is an Audi idea!
The M5 non-comp for me, easily quick enough and the ride is cushioned with a lot of fun still
Doesn’t exist for us in the UK anymore!
The rs6 definitely looks better. The car looks insane
estates elicit the idea of having more room for stuff...

You never really mentioned the looks, is it me or does the M5 competition look a bit.....well ordinary, straight on in some shots, its got a bit of Skoda about it too and the rear end above the bumper is bog standard rep car.
680hp 😯😯
