Get the RS6 Performance before it is too late, as the next one will be going the same way as this M5. The drivetrain on the C9 RS7 Avant will be a later iteration of that used in the Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid, so hardly a secret as to what it will weigh and what it will "do". Probably just as heavy, just as large, and just as fast as this M5. All seems a bit pointless. Should have been the M5 Touring for this comparison test. An RS7 Performance is the right line-up against an M5 sedan, can't imagine many actual buyers would flick between body types when considering a purchase. If Ben had had an M5 Touring for a week performing the same duties in the same varied conditions through which the RS6 Performance was apparently flawless would he have felt the same? The M5 hybrid seems a little manic, too large and way overweight to pretend being a track car for quick and seemingly uncomfortable squirts along a B-road. It would be illuminating to see this team do the same test between the M3 Touring and the M5 Touring. Looks are completely subjective. But for me, the F90 were quite good looking re. exterior design; this looks like a cheap kit car in comparison. I can understand why they have replaced their design team.

I don't know why people are hating on the new M5. I think it's a good looking car. And the weight of the car is only a factor if you're tracking the car every day. Which 99.9999999999999% of people won't be doing. Most people will be gunning it down the highway, showing it off on a boulevard or will be stuck in a traffic jam for most of the time. So stop whining about the weight.
Here we go again with this track bs arguments 🤦🏾♂️. Have you ever drive an SuV like an Escalade or a Truck? The weight is something to really consider and be careful about when you take a corner. Also you didn’t think about the thing people do the most : braking . So an heavier car is more difficult to stop from 60 to 0 , and difficult to manage in corner on daily basis. You don’t need to track it to have to deal with the common physics the weight brings. It’s a sport car , it shouldn’t have this kind of issue. Now add 3 more adults in the car and you are closing the gap to 3 tonnes. And all the issues listed above become more pronounced.
@@DKhalil Are you actually comparing an Escalade with a sedan? Do you understand what center of gravity is? Do you understand that the center of gravity has more baring on taking a corner and how the car handles? So, you're taking corners with 100 mph on a daily basis, do you? It's not a sportscar. It's a family sedan. First you compare it to an SUV and now you think an M5 is a sportscar. Ffs. A BMW X5M is probably also a sportscar to you. Did you even watch the video? Did you hear them complain about the handling in the corners? Of course there's physics involved but in the real world 9 times out of 10 you won't even notice it, because you won't be pushing the car to it's limit to notice it.
Bullshit... Weight affects EVERYTHING. Speed, ride, driving feeling and consumables. You drive it on the street, you're using more tires, more brakes, bushings will wear out quicker, joints will wear out quicker, everything wears your quicker even the roads. Yes you might save a bit of fuel, but everything else will consume more, but because tires, brakes, etc aren't regulated and accounted in emissions, they get away with it. If this new M5 is very good to drive, then imagine how good it would have been with all that tech and suspension tuning, but with 500kg less.
My personal hate is based on the fact that manufacturers just take away the choice of pure gas-driven sports cars from consumers and force consumers to buy what they want consumers to buy or simply force consumers to walk away. BTW, I have always been a BMW fan, currently driving a 2024 M8 gran coupe and previous car was an M550i.
For me a performance car does need to look the part and this new M5 looks awful to me. The old one was a bit plain but it had some athleticism in the design and I liked it (and I owned one). The RS6 on the other hand looks gorgeous and gets the balance of performance and family practicality just right. Hope Audi don’t screw that up with the new one 🙄
No comments on the design? The RS6 especially in that shade of red just blows the M5 out of the water. I could not care less if the M5 managed to hide its weight or not when it looks like a cheap chinese car next to the menacing looking RS6.
@ UK, did 22,000 miles and it rinsed me, drive it slow or ring its neck out and it made no odds, the only plus was I used to get lots of Shell points from the station 😂
@@timmietz I can handle low MPG in Supercar’s, part of the territory, each drive is an occasion. I daily a 992 Carrera T now and that in all fairness is pretty efficient
What I don’t understand is why they’re comparing the current gen M5 to the F90 M5 CS. They should be comparing to the F90 Competition as that was the car most people got and the only M5 available in North America. And that car should blow the G90 out of the water for engagement and driving feel. Throttle House compared the G90 to a regular M5 and they felt the G90 is just less engaging, less fun and less agile. It’s a miss.
@ right but you’re saying it’s not as good dynamically as the M5 CS, BUT it’s also not a fair comparison. But then you don’t compare it to the regular F90 or F90 Competition. So in fact you DID compare it to the CS, while just acknowledging they’re in different classes a generation part. Surely you can see how that’s a bit of a cop out. You couldn’t find an F90 M5/M5 Comp and compare the handling/engagement of the two generations? Everyone reviewing this car has avoided doing that with the exception of Throttle House. I really don’t understand why.
If that car sounds good to you mate then I am afraid you have never heard a good-sounding car, and not to mention that fake noise in the cabin, man its horrendous

I'm not fun of new Bmw, they looks like Mondeo. No style, heavy as hell and huge tablet, plastic everywhere ... Mercedes is not better, with tablet everywhere and pink colour looks like room for teenager.
That RS6 is a gorgeous looking thing. The M5 looks great as a wagon but pig ugly as a saloon with that weird sloping boot. RS6 a way better car but last of the breed.
The ending with just the M5 on a curvy road reminded me of that banned Reebok commercial... you know... bungee jumping... and only one guy left hanging off that bridge...
BMW does it again. The comments can hate or say whatever they want. But 2 car guys just drove both and gave the M engineering yet another win for its segment of cars. Whats the score now ? Bmw up 1000 wins?
The fact that, with all these emission regulations around the world and everyone is going with a 3 or 4 cylinder, while BMW is still giving us a V8, all yall can complained about is the weight?
Actually really like the new M5 muscular looks and fact that they keep V8😊, but they should just use V8 without hybrid system for just adding complications and weight 😢. Great video keep it up with great work ❤❤
Joe Achilles is the only TH-camr that actually did a 0-60 and 0-140mph tests, and what was the result? In the new G90 M5, 0-60 was 3.1 seconds, and how fast was it from 0-140mph compared to the F90 M5? The G90 M5 was .7 faster to 140mph than the previous generation.
Interesting that it was the saloon variant of the M5 against the RS6. Right result despite that though plus the touring would add even better practicality over the saloon. The next gen RS6 is likely to be as heavy if additional hybridisation capability and electric range is added. Having the best of what they can is the right call by bmw rather than sell out early and regret it and see issues like Porsche selling electric only..
They should have commented on price comparison too. BMW is well priced vs an outgoing RS6. If only the boot of the M5 touring had 50-100L more then it would be the near perfect car.
If you own either of these two fine cars, you are laughing and have made it in life. And every single drive in them has the potential to be exciting. Both have commanding presence on the road also.
Both great cars but reviewers completely miss glaring omissions : 15 gallon tank makes for horrible range even with hybrid, $2600 in gas guzzler tax 2X as much as RS6A in a hybrid that ‘allegedly’ gets 50mpgin hybrid mode , horrible resale vs RS6 , bmw took away soft close doors for the m5 . As a reminder for the m5 that’s >$10k in taxes alone .
So to some in a perfect world, if the looks couldn't be change but the weight could be reduced, what would be the ideal realistic weight to this M5? Or what would be your perfect M5?
I absolutely HATE that BMW have turned the iconic M5 into an Ever Ready battery machine. That is sacriligeous! I've had nine BMs [5 V8s] but won't have ten!
Not even 2 minutes in and I hear the previous M5 was getting on for 2 tonnes and this new one is a continuation of that... it's a 20% increase in weight! The F90 was lighter than the prior F10. There is no reason that can justify the weight of the new M5. It's heavier than the Tesla Model X and LWB 7 series and around the same as a fully loaded, full fat L460 range rover.
RS6 Performance... a formula tried by Audi after the huge success of M CS models... but they didn't get it there.. On the other hand, let's see what Audi can bring on the table before criticising the new M5... 😁🤷♂️

Rather get a m5 cs or m3 touring. Why would u get the worse car in every performance metric compared too those 2 animals
BMW ❤️
@@PEACEOUTXX1 because it's not always about performance metric, like you are driving always on the limit especialy in the western countries where nowdays you are fined and taxed basically for breathing. I can afford all of them but I choose RS6 Performance for my garage, it's the last of his kind and I dont care about 1 sec difference 0-100 or the lap time on Nurburgring where I will never drive it anyways.
@@deanborisov last of its kind in a segment where the m5 comp and M5 cs are better with better engines.
I honestly didn’t like the F90 at all, it looked like a regular 5 series. I have to admit that I am a big fan of the new M models…
No!... 2.5 tonnes is not a continuation of 2 tonnes. A 20% increase in weight is an insane amount over one generation!
I see the designer's children have been allowed to do the front end again.
RS6 for me, the fat ugly BMW just does nothing for me. Hearing mixed reviews some say it hides its weight, others say it doesn’t at all - I’m believing the latter.
As a serial BMW owner, I think this isn't as ugly as it could have been.
That's about as much of a compliment as I could give.
Not for me.
For the past 30 years most new BMWs have received negative response on their design in their first year, before becoming the most popular.
@richardlabeja remember when everyone hated the new m3/4 front grill. It's defo gonna grow on people
Always had RS6s love them. Hate this M5 id have an e39 one though. Best looking BMW ever made.
If you still think E39 looks the best, It says it all..
@D-nort2 says what? That i could afford a new RS6 and an E39 M5 for a summer only motor. Plus all the other motors iv got.
@@chethemerc7841 I just say if you still think design from the 90s looks the best. You are not open for new design. I dont say the new M5 is the best looking, but absolutly not the e39.
@D-nort2 how do you explain the E-type. Jaguar.
The Avant wins in my book, hands down. If you’ve driven one you know what I mean. Exceptional interior, thin alcantara steering rim, comfortable ride, fast as anything else on the road, sounds fantastic… need I go on
You guys never pick the RS6 as winner, absolutely no sense to pick this M5 over the RS6
RS6>
They hate on every BMW. The M3/4 was trashed. The M2 was trashed.
The look of the new M5 alone is enough to make me look elsewhere.
I cant believe I'm saying this but I think the CT5-V Blackwing is the car to have in this segment now.
or the cousin of the M5 thats not coming back M8 Gran Coupe
I agree with you. It's a pity that we don't have it here in South Africa
Tyres are so important ... those conti's are amazing!
No comments on the design? The RS6 especially in that shade of red just blows the M5 out of the water. I could not care less if the M5 managed to hide its weight or not when it looks like a cheap chinese car next to the menacing looking RS6.
Yeah that BMW looks terrible next to that RS6.
Keep in mind that 738lbs of torque is impressive considering back in early 2000s that came a v12 turbo that torque figured
The irony is that with all the extra weight, the G90 is probably no more efficient than the F90.
Could have just given the RS6 the win since it'll be the last of it and actual it is better
RS6, please. It looks better, sounds better, and if I'm going to have a wagon, I may as well be cosseted and pampered a bit more.
RS6 with an APR Stage 2 tune with a proper full exhaust would be heavily😏
Miss my RS6 dearly, however I do not miss the fuel economy, its was beyond thirsty, like crazy thirsty 🤢
You must not live in the US LOL
@ UK, did 22,000 miles and it rinsed me, drive it slow or ring its neck out and it made no odds, the only plus was I used to get lots of Shell points from the station 😂
Yeah, your gas is expensive. Among my cars, my RS6 is better than my RAPTOR R and my wife’s URUS S. So, it’s all good LOL
@@timmietz I can handle low MPG in Supercar’s, part of the territory, each drive is an occasion. I daily a 992 Carrera T now and that in all fairness is pretty efficient
Audi RS6 everyday for me

@@mrr3808 Getting a bit emotional?
What I don’t understand is why they’re comparing the current gen M5 to the F90 M5 CS. They should be comparing to the F90 Competition as that was the car most people got and the only M5 available in North America. And that car should blow the G90 out of the water for engagement and driving feel. Throttle House compared the G90 to a regular M5 and they felt the G90 is just less engaging, less fun and less agile. It’s a miss.
As we stated in the video, we’re specifically not comparing it to the M5 CS as that’s an unfair comparison.
@@CARmagazineTVCan I get a tracklist for this video (the song that starts near minute 14?)
If that car sounds good to you mate then I am afraid you have never heard a good-sounding car, and not to mention that fake noise in the cabin, man its horrendous
M now stands for Massive
Hi. I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful man with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….🌺🌺🌺
I'm not fun of new Bmw, they looks like Mondeo. No style, heavy as hell and huge tablet, plastic everywhere ... Mercedes is not better, with tablet everywhere and pink colour looks like room for teenager.
RS6 all day, everyday.
Rs6 is so beautiful compare to new m5.
RS6 is much better
😂😂😂😂🙄
It certainly looks better, inside and out. Which at this price, matters
In your dreams
Lol 😂

BMW ❤
Okay, this car has 577 bhp for the combustion engine, so imagine the huge numbers this engine could achieve when it gets modified
You guys across the water has the best reviews. Probably it's the accent
Α Giulia QV/GTA for me is up to the task, all you need. The new M5 is too heavy.....maybe pointless....maybe....
Everyone (including me) makes the same mistake of hating new BMWs. I did the same with the g80 ms …. I now own one.
Man I loved the G80 from the beginning, sold it now to get the new M5, which in my opinion is looking awesome
Fake exhaust sound or sound coming through speakers are just unacceptable at this price point.
No way around it in 2024 unfortunately.
BMW does it again. The comments can hate or say whatever they want. But 2 car guys just drove both and gave the M engineering yet another win for its segment of cars. Whats the score now ? Bmw up 1000 wins?
As soon as I saw the new cars stats I went straight to my closest dealer and bought one of their last previous gen M5’s
Song at 14:00 is called Rescued Clementines for anyone wondering.
The fact that, with all these emission regulations around the world and everyone is going with a 3 or 4 cylinder, while BMW is still giving us a V8, all yall can complained about is the weight?
Im going to need a tracklist for this video. The music was great
Actually really like the new M5 muscular looks and fact that they keep V8😊, but they should just use V8 without hybrid system for just adding complications and weight 😢.
Have you tried a 550e? Does it feel sweeter or just as lardy with a bit less oomph?
2500kg....nope
You can’t afford it so..
You can't afford it anyways so why do you care
So you won’t be upgrading your Kia Rio this year then?
Hahahhahahah
Who cares about the weight though? No M5 customer does, I would say
I’d get the G99 M5 Estate!
This was a BMW sponsored review right? At least that’s what showed up on my screen before the video started. Might explain the result!
If anyone buys this car on looks, and says they love the look. They are wrong 😂
Me, for example hahaha
So you have to get over “only” the size, weight and looks? What else could be bad then?
The M5 is obviously the better car,.. come on guys,.. it’s obvious,….
Everyone love to pick on BMW when all the new cars in the top tier is doing the same smh but carry on every 7 years we get the same complaints😊
Absolutely epic review … one of the best of the year. Location, scenery, and two cars in “to die for” colours. Oh, decisions !
If you own either of these two fine cars, you are laughing and have made it in life. And every single drive in them has the potential to be exciting. Both have commanding presence on the road also.
Am i the only one noticing that there are a lot of similarities (in the front especially) with the E60 BMW?
There definitely are subtle similarities
I knew these guys were going to choose the M5 over the RS6.
Paid advert😂
Both great cars but reviewers completely miss glaring omissions : 15 gallon tank makes for horrible range even with hybrid, $2600 in gas guzzler tax 2X as much as RS6A in a hybrid that ‘allegedly’ gets 50mpgin hybrid mode , horrible resale vs RS6 , bmw took away soft close doors for the m5 . As a reminder for the m5 that’s >$10k in taxes alone .
Range in the M5 was better than the range in the RS6!
You don't like the grill on the M5 but it doesn't matter you can't afford one anyway
People talking about the m5s weight and pick the rs6 why not the m3 touring then its more nimble then the rs6 and quicker
So to some in a perfect world, if the looks couldn't be change but the weight could be reduced, what would be the ideal realistic weight to this M5?
Or what would be your perfect M5?
I want last RS6❤
Design and looks of new M5 = 3/10
Subjective for me it’s the first M5 that I give 9/10
I second this
Audi engine placement vs BMW says it all… Audi will push and feel much less enjoyable
I absolutely HATE that BMW have turned the iconic M5 into an Ever Ready battery machine. That is sacriligeous! I've had nine BMs [5 V8s] but won't have ten!
Great review!
19:36 They totally should have done that w/the S58 and a smaller/lighter battery package
The irony of Ben Barry waving the flag for Audi is not lost upon me.
BMW "The Ultimate Driving Machine"
Great review , better if you had the M5 estate . Let's be honest both of these cars are too wide to be B road weapons (never mind the weight !)
Let's make it as ugly as possible and give it fake sounds...
Great video
Thos M5 is DOUBLE the weight of my STi RA. Let that sink in.
Blimey, an ID4 ev weighs 2.03 tons an M5 weighs 2.5 tons?!?! Why all the batteries, whats happening with hydrogen vehicles?
