This is Phil’s actual personality the way he is now and has been for the past 20 years is basically the way Grant got on I liked Phil far better in his first ten years on the show than I have for the past 20.
@@tomhiggins6542 They just changed Phil for the sake of it to fill the void left by Grant who was always the more villainous and vicious of the two. After a few years Phil's behaviour made Grant look like a reasonable man.
@@Uksoapfan I did like the first few yrs of his character change. It's more the excessive plot armour, repetitive storylines and cheesey dialogue that's ruined Phil's character. For the defence most 00s EEs been pretty poor, most of the characters have been indifferent/poor and even the better ones wouldn't be making all-time top ten lists (I rate Paul Trueman's best of the 00s).
2000-2003 Phil physically was a bit overrated as a hardman as we agree. He was still strong as an ox but slower. I think 1990-1996 Phil would have not been pinned to a wall by Dan like 2000 Phil was.
@@Uksoapfan I think Phil back then would’ve been too quick for Dan. Dan would’ve been able to overpower him if he got his hands on him but I doubt Phil would’ve let that happen. Dan is a bit difficult to rank to be honest because we only saw him go up against people a lot smaller than him, would’ve been interesting to see him go toe to toe with hardmen close to his size like Vincent, Sean or Jack.
@@H.K.5 I would also say 1996 Phil was quite good as he managed to grab another Dan, Dan Zappieri and throw him around the Vic and Dan Zappieri was bigger. See how confusing it can be with characters of the same first name such as Dougie from 1992 and Dougie Briggs, Aidan Brosnan and Aidan Maguire and Dan Sullivan and Dan Zappieri. Imagine if EE had bought in another character called Phil at anytime during Phil Mitchell has been in it.
The ending was proof imo that Phil was better away from all the major gangster stuff the way he tells off his younger brother Grant this was Phil at his most legendary more of anti hero back then than he is today great scenes btw that Dougie gave Phil a corker of a black eye better than what the likes if Steve and Dennis did to him
I actually hadn't remembered that Phil got a black eye from that fight. And tbf Grant was a right pain in the arse to Phil in this storyline. Starting the Vic fire that nearly killed Sharon, Phil had to rob the bookies in Grant's place in order to payback Jason Cox, then had to hunt down Dougie & fight him to retrieve the cash from the job. Phil earnt the right to tell him off.

Prime Phil at his quickest and best here unlike the version we have today I know he’s old but I mean in general he was a far better character back in his prime days.

Most people here gives him grief for not killing but a good hardman doesn't need to kill without good cause. Phil can fight but the Phil from the 00s onwards was all about mind games even if some of his threats were a bit repetitive

1990-1996 was Phil when he was not far behind Grant in the hardman stakes. Phil was a nicer guy but was a total machine when he was in fight mode.

Phil was a machine back then, I doubt he could’ve caught that guy after the 90’s.
I reckon into the mid 90s, 96/onwards, I think he would have struggled to caught up with him

@@lukeslevin2666 Yeah he started to slow down in the mid 90’s due to his age plus he was getting bigger. 1995 was Phil’s last prime year I think.

Show was written different, Dougie was a tough who did a job Grant bottled.
