    I've watched dozens, at least, reactions to this song and this wonderful young man here is the FIRST to actually pause and comment on the 2, possibly most profound lines
    ever put to music: "The child is grown. The dream is gone.". Those 2 lines express all the hurt and loss conveyed in this song, the entire album, life as a whole.
    I;'d hug you if I could. Thank you.

    • @YonatanZunger
      @YonatanZunger 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Thinking about it, these lines are really the heart of the whole album. It's the moment of actual revelation of the truth, in the madness- and drug-induced haze, that triggers the entire catharsis. The collapse of the wall at the end is symbolic, but this line is where the meat is.
      Gods, I love Pink Floyd. I've been listening to them since high school and they never get old, just more layered.

      @inotnad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That whole verse;
      "When I was a child
      I caught a fleeing glimpse
      Out of the corner of my eye
      I turned to look, but it was gone
      I can not put my finger on it now
      The child is grown
      The dream is gone"
      Will go down as a major poetic verse of the twentieth century

    Yes! Yes! Yes! That’s Pink Floyd..... especially the flustered attempt to find words to describe it! Floyd is amazing and I’m so stoked to see you listen to more! Animals is probably my favorite album but as I’m sure others have or will tell you, they tend to write concept albums that are intended to be listened to as an album rather than picking songs at random. Random is fine to start with though, especially for reactions but as you fall in love with their sound you can do whole albums.
    Loved your reaction to this one for sure! Hey You, Wish You Were Here, and Shine on You Crazy Diamond are all solid picks that can stand alone.

    Sounds like you've been properly Floyded. Pink Floyd features one of the greatest guitarist and one of the greatest lyricists in Rock history. Backed up by a keyboardist/synth player that'll make you forget what planet you're on. And a drummer that brings the drama, the heart, the soul, whatever you need. And vocals that are in a class by themselves. Literally no one else sounds like them. Check out "Time" by them next, from one of the biggest selling albums of all time 'Dark Side of the Moon'. Pink Floyd is a very, very special Rock Band, they are a Vibe all on their own. Pink Floyd's Spacey sound is mesmerizing, people have actually said they had an out of body experience! I'm not kidding. The listener is moved by Pink Floyds music, they take you on a cerebral Journy so to speak. A big part of that is David Gilmours' guitar playing.
    I've been a PF fan since 1973 when they released their "Dark Side of the Moon" album, I was 17. I was fortunate enough to get tickets too see them on their The Wall world Tour in 1980. That was the most incredible Show I've ever seen, to call it a concert does it a disservice.
    Pink Floyd was formed in London in 1964, today they have sold over 400 million, (and counting), albums worldwide. Only the Beatles have sold more albums, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin go back and forth for second place.
    The original band consisted of Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Rick Wright, Syd Barrett had to leave the band in 1967 for mental health and drug issues, David Gilmour, took over for Barrett in 1968, and is still active today!
    There's so much more to say but this is obviously not the venue to do so, so I;ll end with this. If you decide to go down this wonderful rabbit hole named Pink Floyd, you're in for a real treat!
    You will hear some of the most incredible music you'll ever hear for the rest of your life. You'll also SEE some of the most phenomenal live Rock performances of light and lazar shows you'll ever see

      Btw, Gilmour's voice is almost as effective as his guitar in many a Floyd songs. His is the perfect voice to interpret Roger's dark introspective lyrics. I think the song "Wish You Were Here" is a perfect example. I've witnessed reactors moved to tears just based on his voice alone without even fully understanding the lyrics.

    Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Pink Floyd. Its classified as psychedelic/acid or experimental Rock. What is so amazing is, this band was formed in 1965...!
    They were so far ahead of their time that they sound just as good now as back then. The best way to experience them, which I would recommend with Comfortably Numb now, is dim the lights, have a beverage of choice, put the headphones on, turn it up and let it take you to your happy place.

    The Wall is probably the best concept album ever made. As such doing the song's as reactions isn't ideal. Eventually you'll want to.listen to to he whole album in order. One of the things that makes it the best concept album, is they didn't just make videos they made whole movie, and that's probably the best way to experience it. I'd react to Another Brick in the Wall first at least, maybe Run Like Hell and Dirty Woman too. Great reaction! (What you're hearing is a full symphony with the full band and great early use of synthesizer. Also probably the ultimate lyrical content of Roger Waters, lead singer. I believe the album was inspired by the band's original lead singer Syd Barrett who literally lost his mind)

    • @JoeTomasone
      @JoeTomasone ปีที่แล้ว

      Partially, but greatly by Roger Waters himself. His father died in WWII (A member of the Royal Fusiliers Company C) and that void is one of many “bricks in the wall”. So it’s partly autobiographical, party an homage of sorts to Syd, and partially fictionally embellished.

    The whole album (The Wall) is just one long journey seen through troubled eyes. Though not autobiographical, it borrows heavily from Roger Waters childhood.
    Dave Gilmour's outro guitar solo is arguably the best solo in the world but, as already commented, the Pulse (1994?) gig has the most amazing extended version which shows the masterful skill he employs on how to guitar solo WITH the band & not some Prima Donna one man show. Amazing.
    As you say, it's not really reaction material, even so well done & treat yourself to: The Wall.

    Welcome to British music, this is what we grow up with, it’s in our bones 😆🤣😁 Enjoy the journey, you’re going to love it. Your first reaction post I watched was Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, that was fantastic. It’s been an absolute joy to see the moment each song hits you, so I had to subscribe. If you’ve not listened yet then I highly recommend you try some tracks from Genesis and Muse ❤️

    In terms of 'feeling' Pink Floyd, they experimented with sound on a lot of their albums, and one of the few to try Quadraphonic sound where it is balanced between 4 speakers instead of the 2 of stereo sound which is what became the norm. They tried a lot of stuff....and some would just listen to their albums on weed, or acid and such, really blowing their minds. I think some of that side is what you were feeling, and you are not alone. I love Pink Floyd and so many other bands/groups and singers. Eclectic musical taste is the best.

  • @philshorten3221
    @philshorten3221 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have a theory on why it "feels"
    When playing Dave Gilmour uses "bends" of up to 5 semi-tones (BTW that's hard), instead of just "plucking" a higher note.
    I think this gives your brain time to follow the smooth change in pitch like a ramp as apposed to a staircase. His playing is analogue not digital and I think our brains just love to ride the wave man😉😎

    Reason the beginning seems strange is the whole album flows from one song to the next. There's little things between the songs telling a larger story. It was made into a movie. Pink Floyd albums can be like that, Dark Side of the Moon is seemless in that, flowing one song after another through the whole album. This one, the Wall album, tells more of a specific story about a character, but Dark Side is more about universal subjects of life, death, etc.

    When this album came out I was going to a funeral & driving from NJ to NC . I got pulled over for speeding by a black State Trooper on I-95 in NC . He took my papers & went up to his car & told me to get in on the passenger side . He had this song playing on his cassette deck when I got in . And without thinking I sang along with the chorus 🎼 I have become comfortably numb 🎶. I caught myself & turned to look at him , he was staring at me . He gave me my paperwork back & told me to have a good day & slow down . Seeing this young black guy enjoy Floyd brought me right back to that moment .

    As most of Pink Floyd albums, you must listen to them entirely... This song comes from the wall, also a movie with no pause. It's the same for other albums like The Dark Side Of The Moon. You really should react to the Pulse version of that track, in 1994, but without stopping the song, especially the guitar solo, that's so wonderful... I saw that concert, I'll never forget that moment of my life. Just enjoy the best band of the world. Love from France 🇫🇷😘

    The first time Pink Floyd walked into a studio, a record exec handed them a giant book titled "The Correct Way to Make a Hit Rock Song."
    Pink Floyd opened the book, and flipped through several pages.
    They then snickered, tossed that book out the window, and proceeded to reinvent Rock music, from the ground up.

    The only thing I don’t like about this song is the last solo needed to go a little longer. Saw Floyd in 1975 and it went on twice as long. Back then the solo was way better than the Pulse concert 20+ years later. This, in my humble opinion, is one of greatest songs ever written.
    Pink Floyd albums need to be listened to from beginning to end and with headphones.. sitting in a beanbag. Well ya don’t need a beanbag.😎

    My Pink Floyd story:
    I was 8 or nine when my brother brought Dark Side of the Moon home, he would have been 12 or 13. The album had been out a couple of years by then. I remember being pissed with him for bringing home a band with a silly name like that. My brother dropped the needle on side two, the song "Money". My mother, older and younger brother listened and it was a music we had never heard, amazing. This is one of the very few happy memories I have with my family together. I grew up with Pink Floyd. I remember when this Album, The Wall came out. I was 12.

    A bit late here and a new viewer, but listening to these on vinyl the way they had their stories told back then, is such a different experience as well. Listening to the Dark Side of the Moon and flipping it over after The Great Gig in the Sky just to hear Money slam back on side B, the tone change between songs as they flow into each other is incredible. Sit and listen to the whole album in one go and it'll make you feel things you didn't know you could feel. I highly recommend checking out the 94' Pulse performance of this song as well!

    If you ever happen to be reading this, sit down, grab a bag of popcorn, relax. This is easily my favorite reaction to any song ever because you can tell you’re taking in every single aspect of the song. You understand how the lyrics apply a tragedy that is masked into an elegant, soft song. A paradox of the meaning behind the song and instrumental. I saw you mutter to yourself “what the fuck…” in absolute awe towards the end of the first guitar solo before the chorus came back on. Even at that part, it opened your eyes from the trance you were in from the amazing instrumentals being played in the background. Your face said “I didn’t think this song could get any better but damn…” Here’s the thing about Pink Floyd I’m sure you’re going to see in the comments because my father, and I’m sure many more people have said this, but you don’t listen to Pink Floyd, you experience it. Comfortably Numb is a song based on real events Roger Waters felt during a concert in Philadelphia in the 70’s yet it is a brilliantly and beautifully written tragedy that can be interpreted in so many ways and forms.

    Man, The Wall is an album that is best heard from beginning to end; the whole album is a single story, each song a part, blending together, which is there are different sounds at beginning and end of the songs, the start/end of the song after/before. I used to listen to this album a LOT in high school, my eldest brother got married and moved out, but he left his albums and record player behind. I love this album.

    • @raisedbygypsies
      @raisedbygypsies ปีที่แล้ว

      It's awesome that your brother left these items behind for you to find. Do you believe it was intentional? Did he feel that these things were not going to be a part of him anymore now that he was married? Wasn't he able to take some of this stuff with him when he moved out? I hope he didn't just stop listening to this music...it would be sad.
      .. What matters is it was fated for you to find the music!
      Be it left for you intentionally, or accidentally. You picked it up! You felt the music! Listened with your entire being! Now the music 🎵🎶 is with you,
      and a part of you.

    Reacting to Pink Floyd songs is kinda oxymoronic. Because they didn't write "songs" as we are used to from other artists.
    Instead, they wrote albums, divided into parts.
    Listening to one song from a Pink Floyd album, is like reading one chapter from a great novel.
    But who's going to react to an entire album? I get it.
    Anyway, Pink Floyd had many great albums. Their most successful include:
    Dark Side of the Moon
    The Wall
    I Wish You Were Here
    Momentary Lapse of Reason
    (The first two are among the greatest selling albums of all time.)
    Oh and for the record, while Rock Music has turned out many, many amazing guitar solos to enjoy, you just heard the best one, ever recorded!
    Enjoy your journey.

    The intro is actually the last part of the song (Bring The Boys Back Home).I don't know why it's mixed like that on yuotube but if you were listening to it on an album,that's what you would hear...INTERESTING Note,If you listen to the words at the end it asks "is there anybody out there?" And the first words of Comfortably Numb are "Hello,Is there anybody in there?"...

    Everyone wanted to go on a trip in those days. Most of us were trippin' on acid when we listened to Floyd. That REALLY helped us on the journey Floyd takes us on. Everyone wanted to expand their horizons. This song is from "The Wall", which is an album AND a movie. It's all about how the damage inflicted on us as children can have such severe consequences on us as adults. It's very tragic and poignant. You have to hear (and see) the WHOLE THING to fully appreciate it. That's the case with ALL Pink Floyd albums - THEY MUST BE LISTENED TO IN FULL!!! They tell a whole story. Listening to only one song at a time doesn't really get you there. It's like watching one scene from a movie, and thinking you know what the movie's about. You should do FULL-ALBUM reactions! Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall are MUSTS!

    Another one, and to be honest, the only song this group has sung that I've enjoyed. Sound of Silence was originally written by Paul Simon, and recorded and performed by Simon & Garfunkel in 1965. It has since been covered by several groups. Of all the covers I enjoy, one is by the rock band, Disturbed. Here is the link to their official video, which you absolutely need to watch to understand their interpretation of this classic. th-cam.com/video/u9Dg-g7t2l4/w-d-xo.html
