I would suggest if you kill the print via a dumb power shut down, power your printer back on immediately to allow the hot end fan to run and cool hot end off to ensure you don't get heat creep and subsequent filament melting in the heat break and potential clog.

    • @heroflying
      @heroflying ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@UncleJessy I know the entire point of this video is to make due without Octoprint, but this is one of the many benefits of Octoprint. Smart plug plugins like the one for TP-Link have configurable thresholds for the hot end temp that Octoprint won't auto shut down the printer until the hot end is below that temp, which is nice, but that's the reason why.

    • @heroflying
      @heroflying ปีที่แล้ว

@@br0k3nilluzion I disagree there isn't a reason to go with a pi. Not that I would suggest spending scalper pricing for a pi, but Octoprint's most commonly developed hardware platform is a pi. Most people run Octoprint on Pi's, it's well documented how to set it up on a Pi, Pi provides a near uniform hardware platform that you can trust is most likely to work with future versions of Octoprint and with updates to the underlying OS with great documentation for keeping that OS patched and secure and working reliably.

Quick suggestion that's easy to do. I designed some go pro mounts for my blink minis. You can solid mount them to the front bolts and add extra arms to get it where you need it. Also makes it adjustable for different size prints and applications. Tons of files out there for that. Just need to combine the pieces you need.

I've been doing the same thing for a few years now and have Wyze v3 and Wyze v2's on all my printers along with Smart plugs to control them all too. I'd recommend mounting the cameras to be at nozzle height to be able to monitor the first few layers as those are the most important and also modding the lenses on the cameras to have a closer focal length to see the nozzle easier.

  • @DonsArtnGames

I actually have this setup on my 3d printers already. It's been a lifesaver. As for your "blooper" portion. It sounds to me like you are not breathing from your diaphragm.
Try this out: Take in as much air as you possibly can (to the point you can't even sip air in). Then suck in your belly button (imagine trying to get your belly button to touch your spine). Then while holding your belly button in place, try breathing again. I would assume you would have some trouble with it.
Many people breath with their abdomen muscles, effectively squishing their guts into their diaphragm to breath. This exercise Isolates the core muscles to force the diaphragm to breathe for you, which is often atrophied a bit from the belly breathing. Start with a couple of minutes per day doing this exercise and increase it gradually as the days go on. You'll fin that you can breathe better during your runs since your core muscles just have to focus on stabilizing you and your diaphragm takes care of just your breathing and talking.
Best of luck to you and thank you for all your 3D Printing advice and information.

If you hard kill the power to the printer then the cooling fans turn off and can allow residual heat from the hotend to spread up into the heatsink area without being cooled and cause damage to the plastic parts around it (or PTFE inside the hotend).

Hey! Great video and it's an idea I've used for years. I highly recommend the KASA brand smart plugs and cameras. I have several printers running while I'm not home and they sell a 6 plug surge protector with individually controllable plugs. So I use their camera to check in on my prints and if printer #4 has an issue, I can kill JUST that printer until I get home while all the others keep going. They sell smart plugs for just one printer or device as well though.
Plus the app let's you monitor electricity usage, duration, etc for each plug.

Good choice. I use a Pan V3 with a flexable mount for my N3 Pro. Paired with a smart plug as well. Have used Wyze cams for years both indoors and out, they're very reliable. Amazon has a flexable mount that has a clip on one end for arount $12. The clip is strong and it opened wide enough to mount on an table that's about 4" wide. Very stiff mount.
As far as I know the timelapse doesn't get any better. I've tried it on our Cam 2 and Pan V3 with the same results you've had. Have the outdoor but I can't see it being any different/

@@UncleJessy the Pan would allow you to centrally mount it and keep tabs on multiple printers. $39 isn’t too bad, just wish it had hardware zoom.

For a bedslinger model, would the timelapse look better if you mounted the camera to the bed rather than the frame? That way the model would stay still in frame and just grow in height. Although the background would be in constant motion, so may induce motion sickness 😅

@@UncleJessy I felt exactly how you guys both feel about the Pi and octoprint, i should've bought one when they were only $90 but i got the Pi with a case and all the doodads including cam for under 200 on sale. As for the installation it's not so bad there's actually pretty good tutorials on youtube i'd say it only took me maaaaybe 30 minutes because I am dyslexic. If I can do it, you guys for sure can do it! well worth it too!
I might buy one of those cameras just for the heck of it to see how it works and maybe implement it into octoPi as a better camera.

It's ultra easy with octoprint, you just need to log in to your account to monitor and manage your printer online.
More complex with Klipper as you'll need to ensure security by accessing the printer via wireguard VPN.

@@exploringgames948 for 200 you could had used an android phone, here is possible to find them for 60 or 70 usd and works perfectly, just need a tripod and a 2 in 1 otg usb to ensure connection to the printer and power from the wall also because the PI was chosen as inexpensive hardware as it was 35$ but now with this overpriced market there are better solutions

Hey Uncle!! There's no need for one Pi per printer, if you can get your hands on a powerful 8gb model you can run multiple octoprint's instances using Docker or any other container solution out there. The limit would be whatever add-ons you choose for your octoprint instances to have, as they'd suck the Pi ram. It's also valid if you have an old PC or laptop laying around!

Just turning the printer off could cause problems by letting the filament bake without retraction or letting the hot end cool off. Isn't that a bad thing?

I have cameras and smart plugs going now, but the cameras are really tempermental, and it's hard to get fullscreen in the app they use. It's annoying enough I spent time this afternoon looking at octo4a. With the right cheap phone it looks like a really nice setup for not a whole lot more than these, and definitely less than a pi + camera right now, but the most recent version can have issues requiring sshing into the phone to get the app working. Spaghetti detective being a weird method of paid add on now is a little discouraging, and it sounds like the other failure detection plugins may have iffy functionality as well. It sounds like these cameras are functional and reliable enough that they might be a good option until I'm feeling a little more ambitious.

Wyze makes a electrical outlets so u can shut it off remotely so u can use all one app.. wyze og uses it’s old tech from v2.. the best ones to get is the wyze v3 or new v3 pro and the pro has 2k recording and better optics and a light. I’ve been using them for 3 years and they work in a hot enclosure.. just be careful with magnetic because I’ve had cameras drop Into the bed and just jammed the bed and print head while I was away..

This is a great idea! However a couple of thoughts: 1) you need to be able to check your phone frequently while it's printing unless you had some AI that could detect when your printer is failing. When you're sleeping I'm sure you're not waking up every hour to check your phone (I hope!) 2) probably not a good idea to leave a printer running while no one is at home or you are all sleeping. Unless you have some fire suppression system in place that will activate automatically, like the Wham Bam Cloud.

Because you can't change the aperture of the Wyse camera
Make sure you have good lighting and lower the interval to 2,3 seconds for better time lapse videos
Also I'm thinking about buying the Bambu X1 Carbon and AMS
I have zero 3D print knowledge
How hard is it to learn the slicer program to get up and running ??
    Love your videos and knowledge
    Thanks

While it is a ok way to emergency stop, I prefer the option to actually stop a print without killing the hot end coooling fan, and thus getting heat creep into the heatbreak and above, even in case of a failure. A way to interface with the board will always be better then a straight ower cut.

You don't have to run Octoprint on a Pi. It's just ARM software for Linux, any other Pi-like board with a sufficient CPU can support it.

I don’t trust the smart outlets to be attached to a printer. I have some display cabinets and a bedroom lamp attached to two different brands of Alexa-compatible outlets (one being 1st-party). At like 1-2am, they blip the power twice back to back and eventually just turn off completely by 3am.
