    The process you are using is called AP (acid/peroxide). You created copper(II) chloride. You could have driven the the dissolution of the copper by bubbling air through the solution with an aquarium pump. After you created the first green solution, there's no need to make more. Use the same solution over and over. If you increase the HCl proportions to 4 parts HCl to 1 part hydrogen peroxide (3%), the solution will happily chew up copper for a very long time. If you turn off the air, the solution will turn dark, almost brown. If you continuously oxygenate the solution with an air bubblier, the solution will continue to dissolve copper. The solution builds over time. Decant a portion of the pregnant leach when it turns black and add fresh HCl. The overage can be recycled and disposed of or stored to start a fresh batch later. This works well with gold recovery from electronics. You can see some of that on my channel.

      Do you really think this happened in 15 minutes?!?!?

    • @GeoONE
      @GeoONE 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on concentration of the acid. Too, base metal makes the difference. Solid copper would not have dissolved that fast. If it was pewter (zinc), you wouldn't even need the H2O2. Bronze and brass has tin and zinc which reacts very fast to HCl. Temp of the reaction should tell you something about what is going on. If the solution gets relatively hot, it's a highly reactive base metal like zinc or tin.

      Geo Thanks!! I'm going to check out your channel and may sub (I have to clean up all of the subs I've accumulated and dump some). BTW, before I got to this video I saw one where the guy used salt, hot water and a battery charger. He got what I think are impressive results in about 8 minutes. Have you seen that one?

      His understanding & use of english is terrible, he is removing silver yet he keeps discussing copper. So now we have silver chloride, NOW WHAT?

    what are the names of the chemicals also can base metal be salvaged and how many grams on average of silver would you recover also what purity would the silver be ?

    • @buggsy5
      @buggsy5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The person used hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide.
      Yes, the base metals can be recovered, but it is not usually economical to do so - except possibly through cementing any copper out of solution by cementing onto iron.
      The percentage by weight of silver on a plated piece can vary tremendously. For really cheap plated goods, probably less than 1% is silver. For really good (usually stamped something like EHSP for Extra Heavy Silver Plate" the percentage may be as high as 5%.
      For silver plating, the silver purity itself will be pretty high, but I don't recall if there are any national standards. It is probably not pure, as pure silver is rather soft and would damage easily.

    Honestly there might be more money in just scrapping it as brass. Then you also save the time and expenses for the peroxide and acid

    • @TheManormen
      @TheManormen ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still scrap the brass base metal.

    I have tin silver metal..i want to recover both silver and tin..how can i separate silver from tin with hcl ??

    • @WatcherLater
      @WatcherLater 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hydrochloric acid will turn tin into water soluble tin chloride, and hydrochloric acid is mixed with water because it is gaseous on its own at room temp, just heat it to speed it up and you will be left with pure silver powder. Have a coffee filter under the silver so you don't lose it, or maybe just evaporate the hydrochloric and water that is left.

    Is there any way to get the copper back from the used solution?

    • @jaaamie3223
      @jaaamie3223  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course it is.Afterall it is just copper diluted a little acid and water.You just have to neutrelize the acid and evaporate the water.

    @bantalee2002 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    yeah,. more HCL. would go far.. what concentration H2o2 did you use. have you thought of using lye? I use lye to dissolve the metal inside a hard drive disk, after 12 hours all i have left is a very thin foil of platinum group metals. real thin stuff,.but adds up if you have a a few hundred disks. you need to pass the edge of each platter over a bench grinder, then score the surface of each disk before immersing them into the lye and cold water bath.

    • @buggsy5
      @buggsy5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have to cover the wax with some sort of conductive layer first, like graphite. But why would you want to silver plate a wax toy?
