I'm trying to track down the grips you have for my compact tactical, as mine came with the standard side plates. What is the true name for the grips? I contacted HK usa and they stated they do not sell any grips for the HK 45 series.
Great video Justin!! I love my P227 SAS Gen 2! - I need to pick up some 14 round extended factory magazines for it because they are availible now.. - Young Beretta
Sorry to be so off topic but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost my account password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Philip Orlando i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Very thorough video! FYI: the HK's trigger hiccup at 20:00 is the half-cocked position. The only time the hammer is dropped beyond that point is when the trigger is pulled onto a dead round / empty chamber. If you were to pull the trigger again to double-strike a primer, you would experience that hiccup. Otherwise, using the decocker, the hammer will sit at the half-cocked position. There will be more take-up before you get to resistance in the trigger, but once you start developing resistance, it's relatively smooth until the break.
I don't know you don't have more subscribers. Your vids are very informative and of high quality. Thanks for the upload, this really helped me on deciding my next .45!
+Max F Thanks for the comment. It's actually a conspiracy among the other YT channels. Not sure, but the channel is growing and I am very appreciative of all the viewers. I can be goofy sometimes, where others are (almost too) serious - maybe that's it. :)
the best 2 .45s on the market for the non 1911 crowd. Idc which one you choose you can't argue against the other. if the sig feels right then get it. same for the hk. but if you can get both. I'm not one of those hk vs sig guys. they're both to be respected. they make the world's best handguns and serve and protect daily. both fight for our freedom and are made the the world class standards the price justifys. I own both
I have the p220 and the s&w 4566 tsw. Both very good both srt both nice. I personally don't like polymer pistols. I have a couple, but not in my heart like all metal.
@@roosterboy7357 The HK45 is on another level the FNX 45 is for kids who play cod and maybe a range toy, it’s definitely not a quality firearm that can be trusted to save your life or get you home. The FNX feels cheap in the hands and that’s because it is, it’s made from subpar, cheap, flimsy polymer, cheap pot metal trigger and frame parts, slide to frame fit isn’t awesome and feels gritty when racking the slide, the trigger turns to mush after 200 rounds, they break constantly at the first sight of stress and malfunction when dirty, dry or when using anything other than high dollar match ammo oh and they’re not accurate due to the cheap and poorly done barrel and the ergonomics are like holding a 2x4. The HK45 was made as an improvement over the USP and mark23 and there’s documented examples of the HK45 with over 200k rounds on the same barrel without cleaning and same gun with no failures only thing that had to be replaced was 2 small springs after the 100k round mark. The HK will run whatever you put in it, in whatever condition, dirty or clean, you can depend your life that it will go bang accurately every time you squeeze that crisp sa/da trigger. Just racking the slide on an HK feels like greased butter they make the best handguns in the world in my opinion and experience.
Excellent Review.. I have a Sig. 229. A Few H&K's. No Malfunctions, I'm happy with either one. The H&K's seem to fit my hand better than the Sig. My VP9 came with Night Sights. I prefer the H&K phosphorus sights. My Sig's all came with Night Sights.
Those photo luminescent sights are insane with a quick blast from a light!!! 3 seconds with a decent edc light, and those suckers will glow in the day!!!
I have both. For some reason, that is not even clear to me, I tend to shoot the Sig more often. But, after going back through these older videos, I will be taking the HK45 out to the range next week-end. I absolutely love the P227, I would never get rid of it unless Sig made a Legion version, then I'd trade up.
YOUR BEST VIDEO JUSTIN !!!!! I LOVED EVERY SINGLE SEC OF IT ! SO GOOD IM GOING TO PUT IT IN MY FB , SHARE IT WITH MY FRIENDS AND WATCH IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN ! NO KIDDING ! CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!
Thanks for making this video, very well produced! As a left-handed shooter (and Sig owner) the controls are not a problem to operate-- the decocker and mag release button can be activated with my left index finger and the slide lock can be manipulated (e.g., for malfunction clearances) with my support hand. So any lefties in the crowd, don't be deterred from the Sig!
Those glow in the dark sights are pretty damn nice. I sleep in a room with no windows and only the led light from the fire alarm glows in this room. Even so those glow in the dark sights pick up that tiny amount of light and do glow a bit all throughout the night till morning when the room is still all blacked out. Pretty neat imo
I skipped through a lot of this but did he go over the rifling on these two, seems like that is a major difference worth noting... Standard vs. Polygonal.
Not worried about if my HK45's sights may not be lit up fully at night because I dont plan on blindly shooting in pitch darkness. Not to mention if someone breaks into my home, I could easily take the target down even if the gun had no sights at all.
+Palmetto Arms Exactly. I love Sigs, but I would choose a Glock or an H&K any time. Have you tried the Arsenal Strike One? That's an impressive pistol...
Is the felt recoil on the HK45 less in your opinion? I never got to try them side by side, I'd say the HK45 felt less than my P220 Carry but considering the HK45 is longer, has HK's epic recoil reduction system and the weight is nearly the same when loaded....I am just curious if the P227 feels about the same . On video it looks like it had a tad more muzzle flip or at a more upward angle, and looked like it was recoiling a bit more but that's harder to tell.
I think you're exactly right. Perhaps led by the centennial celebration of the 1911, or perhaps because some of the newly engineered offerings have made it 'right-sized'.... there are more available today that just a few years ago.
Good video. I own a Sig P239 9mm and just bought a two tone H&K USP Compact 9mm. Question do you consider upgrading your Sig to a SRT trigger and H & K to the LEM. THANK YOU
P227 has a design flaw. It is shared with other guns out of the p series, but the p227 was most common to have this pin break. I have seen the the same thing happen in a p226. If this pin breaks the weapon will lock up, most of the time with a round in the chamber, but you can't move the slide. I had a p227 and a few others and got rid of all but my p220. Sig knows how to fix it, but refused to do so till it breaks. Not the confidence I want in a duty weapon.
Arguably, true. But it had been done and I hadn't seen these two compared. Oh, and I didn't have the FNX-45. Notice I say "didn't". Look for a 1st Hundred on that one soon, and then who knows what comparisons I might do!! ;-) Thanks for watching!
+Pandemonikus Superbus Thank you for your kind comment. Hoping to get a new Slug Fest out soon... should be a good one. Wish I could visit and see Athens. :)
Wound up going to try the HK45 and SIG P227 and to my surprise I walked out with a SIG 1911 Scorpion. Figuring I already owned enough P2-series (For now) and three HKs, the 1911 just spoke to me, and I traded my P2000 as a carry piece to my wife (which she loves thank goodness, and she deserves the best) my pops got my P30 and the P220 and USP are nightstand for now. For backup I'm definitely going for an HK45c unless I find a smaller 1911 that just speaks to me, or decide to go for a Chiappa White Rhino or smaller revolver. (the White Rhino and Hk45c are vastly different, similar price and quality and both offer a lot as a backup/seconadry)
Just love the hk45 just a piece of art work! I get goosebumps Everytime I open my case! If I had the sig I would feel equally the same.. 2 great reliable company's that I trust my life with
The sig is better looking, more comfortable for me, and has much more standard issue features. Hard to argue against its significant edge, but it's not like theres all that much wrong with the hk either.
Great video! Couple of points... my sample of the HK luminescent (glow) sights, as well as the TruDot tritiums that are HK OEM are both steel. Did you verify that your set is polymer with a magnet? That would indicate a manufacturing change somewhere along the line and may be worth noting. Also, the "false positive / hickup" felt mid stroke of the double action pull on the HK is the hammer "half-cock" position. This is the position of which the hammer falls when using the decocker. Therefore, this position is the starting point of the double action pull if loaded with normal protocol by dropping the slide and then the hammer with the decocker. In contrast, the video illustrates the double action pull by pulling the trigger, letting the hammer fall fully forward and then pulling the trigger again without resetting the hammer to its "normal" double action starting point. (I apologize if I misunderstood what you were describing.) The SIG looks awesome and I think I "need" to add one to the herd:) Thanks for the comparison!
Looks like HK was less accurate for ya, which is something I've seen before, but for me it's the reverse. My target with my P30SK in 9mm looks more like the SIG at 25 yards v my full sized SIG p226 in .40 @ the same distance! Sig's triggers i think help but the HK triggers aren't as bad as the complaints I've heard. I think the LEM shoots more accurately in V1 and even my V2 once you are used to it, the follow up shoots are superb.
Nice review, thumbs up. As a lefty, I give the H&K points for the ambi stuff, but it loses big time for plastic lower and the gasket thingy on the barrel. Trigger guard and batman grips look goofy too.
I own a P220, HK P30sk, HK P2000 (in .40) a USP in .40 (best .40 I've ever shot between G23 and 22, Springfield XDm .40 and Smith and Wesson M&P .40, generally prefer .45 or 9mm), the P220 Carry was by far my favorite all-metal DA/SA I've owned right tied with my beloved Beretta M9, but far more ergonomic and my preferred round, easier to carry too. The USP .40 had the best recoil of the bunch, I'm a believer in the HK recoil reduction system, s othat said. Knowing that the HK45 c feels very much like my P2000, and really liking how HK's DA/SA works in LIVE FIRE (in dry fire it doesn't feel nearly as impressive)....If I had the option of spending $1000-1200 on either a SIG P227 or HK45c, I could get both for around $700 or under with some smart shopping, maybe $800 for the 45c...At that point I'd either have the SIG SRT trigger installed or if I got the HK45c I'd get the Lazy Wolf mod, either their LEM mod or their version of a short reset function on HK, lightening the DA to 8-9lb. So when all is said and done, the SIG P227 feels better, and shoots just as well, but the HK45c, and this is pretty common among my mates, feels like it's the better duty pistol, in and out of the military, and for private securty/LEO. Many of my friends really take to the LEM trigger after trying it out. And the great thing is if you get it in .40 (which likely means getting it cheaper by $100-150), it shoots nearly as good as the 9mm, and while stopping power is nearly the same if we're talking +P and ammo, I think the .40 polycase +P and +P+ ammo is the superior round. Polycase recoils a bit less, too. SIG is fantastic, and great for most gun owners, but if you plan on really heavily using your firearm, and you can do a coin flip on SIG or HK? I'd get the HK, superior engineering, more durable, slightly lighter. Right now I'm sticking with my SIG 1911 but the HK45c is definitely in my future.
Joe Cannabyte I own a 1911 colt rail gun, sig P227, colt new agent 1911, two shotguns, two German Shepherds, a new Chevy truck, a couple guitars, an atv, a pontoon boat, a riding mower, two pairs of shoes, 12 pairs of underwear two of which have holes, 25 pairs of socks 20 which have holes, about 1000 magazines laying in front of my toilet, a book shelf, blah , blah, blah, ..........
Just got my hk45 for $749.99 in the time of covid and put almost 300 rds through it the first time out, multiple brands of 45 ball and my 45 carry ammo!!! All was flawless and capable of much more accuracy than I am!!! Even though it has a fairly high bore axis, I am finding the recoil reduction system makes a huge difference on taming the flip!!! My kh45 even with hot ammo like my carry ammo at 950fps plus with a 230gr jhp doesn't hardly move!!!
Hk design is nice and has a good name eversince. Sig design is simple and very fuctional and can compete with the best guns. I’d go for HK since I don’t have one yet.
No - actually I was previously corrected on that comment and I need to put a little note in the video. The sights on my HK45 are steel. Sorry for the confusion!
As a left handed shooter i will give my 2 cents. The decocker on the sig is in a good position to use your trigger finger to decock. I prefer righty mag release for the same reason. Slide stop release i just slingshot it. The hk i can use my trigger finger too to decock and actuate the safety but i prefer to use just as a decocker or replace with full ambi safety. The safety on the hk sits too high to get a comfortable thumbs over grip though. Not to mention the weird feel of the wide area it sits. The hk has super tight tolerances. I have never seen a barrel to slide fit this tight. Pistol field stripped with barrel in slide I can't move the barrel at all in any direction front or hood. Sig has better machining. My hk has minor machine marks inside the slide. The single action trigger on the hk is fantastic, mine is the hk45c if it makes a difference. The hammer looks like a drunken monkey molded this thing, yes its mim as are many of the small parts. Grip is pretty thin but not as ergonomic as the hk45 or the sig.
Question; I always hear you guys say that a magazine capacity is 10 rounds and then you mention +1. I never understood that. Does that mean that the magazine can actually hold 11 rounds then? If not, where is the +1 (in these statements) coming from? Thanks!
hepek If the magazine ONLY holds 10 rounds and I load 1 of them in the chamber; 10-1 = 9 rounds actually left in the magazine itself, correct? So to me, to say 10 + 1 (meaning 11 rounds) is a bit misleading. I'm new to this type of gun talk so thanks for your time to explain it to me.
militantx0660 The magazine is fully loaded, and then a round is chambered. Then the magazine is removed and topped off (one round is added back), so that you have 10 (or whatever the capacity is) in the magazine and one in the chamber. Hence 10+1, etc. Two primary reasons for this: 1) a defensive handgun is of far less use if a round is not chambered and ready to fire; 2) You are able to maximize the capacity by the extra round. I hope that helps.
militantx0660 Sorry I wasn't more clear upfront. Justin Opinion explained it very well in his comment. Personally, I choose to keep a round in the chamber for the handgun next to my bed. Others don't feel the same way.
Justin Opinion I believe I got it! Thanks so much for taking the time out to explain the gun terminology to me. I appreciate it! Keep making these great videos you guys @hepek.
When I went shopping for a new .45, I looked at the Sig 227. I didn't like the grip. Wasn't ergonomic at all for my hand. The HK45 was just right. Price was only about $100 difference.
great gun, I'd also try the SIG P220 though, you can get it in damn near the same capacity as the HK45 (Which I plan on getting, I got the P30 SK as my backup, P220 as main carry)
Takina uses either a Sig 226 or a 227 in Lycoris Recoil. At first I thought it was a 226 but she is seen testing some of Chisato's non-lethal bullets, and I'm pretty sure Chisato uses a 45. 🤔
Jimmy Marini LOL, someone made that Bob Ross comparison before. I take it as a compliment. Might have to work in saying, "maybe in your world...." into a future video. :) Thanks for the comment.
Some of the comparisons are silly. The sights on that HK are standard sights! Tritium sights are optional, and they have a ledge for 1 hand slide manipulation. The HK45 also offers multiple variants, V1,V3, V7, LEM .. If $1,000 is to much for a polymer pistol, then it's a shame I sell so many $65,000 F-150's there made mostly of plastic. Even race cars, use polymer inserts for engine mounts. Both are proven platforms! The HK is a 21st century firearm. The SiG is the same design for years now since the 1970's. Also, even though the frame is metal, it's aluminum, so once that black coating comes off good luck. Plus Aluminum is not the tough, hell carbon fiber is tough. HK 45 anyway!
I owned a HK 45 C , the slide release was ridiculous loose , I call HK and nobody was able to explained why it was loose , after 1500 round got worse , after 3000 round I notice some wear on the polymer around the rail inserts , the trigger was horrible , nothing compare to Sig SRT , is a overpriced gun that do not offer more than any other polymer gun like ,Glock , XD < XDM , or MP pistols for much less money , FNX 45 is far superior gun than this , the Sig 227 is basically a Sig 226 in 45 ,227 have the option to get 14 rounds of 45 , come with nigth sights , SRT from factory and outstanding Sig Costumer Service , the HK did not come with night sight just luminova , also just come with two magazines of 10 rounds , and they are extremely expensive and there is not any other option of after market hi capacity magazines , this gun just got its fame for Larry Vickers and all the Seals deal , that by the way they still carry the Sig 226 , thank you for the video Sir.
Everything you said was moronic and badly spelled and or grammatically incorrect. Polymer inserts? Are you talking about the EXCESS polymer on the frame rails that's completely normal to come off with use as the gun settles. Its supposed to come off you idiot! I have over 11,000 rounds through my USP45s and HK45 never had a single problem. FN is a superior firearm? Have you ever held the FNP 45? It feel like it was put together like a LEGO model. And SEVERALLY users have had feed and mag issues over and over. You're not a shooter. You're a woman who likes to whine. Justin Opinion, good video
+Cosaco 1969 Racist? A woman is a race now? There have been some HK45's with loose right hand slide stop/release levers. You can order a different lever from HKParts.net which should fix that. I just put a deposit on a HK45CT (the tactical does come with Meprolight Night Sights). I can't wait.
The HK hands down I have owned this gun for 10 years bought it when it first came out nothing was even close to it at the time, shoots and points well not knocking the sig they both go bang bang but for looks and feels and comfortable in my hand..looking at the vp9 which is also made by HK
I could happily carry either. I would pick HK over sig but id agonize over it lol. They are both so great...sig has better feel, srt trigger makes it damn near match worthy...that said check out USPs with a lem/sa mod. First pull is lem at same pull weight with da pull length and my god...search Sean Burrows here on TH-cam for more info on that, lazywolf will do that mod i believe
1050 rounds through my 227 and not one hang-up/malfunction. Love the HK tho. Can't go wrong with either! Great review
lukelem Thanks, and I agree. No losers in this decision.
I'm trying to track down the grips you have for my compact tactical, as mine came with the standard side plates. What is the true name for the grips? I contacted HK usa and they stated they do not sell any grips for the HK 45 series.
Dragonlo, the compact HK45 uses the P2000 type grip frame. HK is correct in stating they don't make grips for them.
Carried the Sig P226 in both 9 and 40 during my 20+ years snd always loved it.
Been wanting to pick up the 227 for a while now.

HK has a rail that is ready to mount an accessory? Do they know that ? Mine required machining. $1000 later it was ready to mount an optic
The H&K has steel sights, not polymer.

This is a great review of two outstanding 45s. I enjoyed all of the footage. I'm glad you didn't suffer a nose bleed when showing the high bore axis.
Thanks!
This awesome video just made the decision VERY easy to decide.......BOTH!!!!!!
Great video!!!! Pls do also the compact version of each.
Great stuff and great series! Two fine beauties! I don't have much experience with the HK, but really enjoy the Sig.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to do this right and enjoy the humor keeping it lite and not getting to religious about band loyalty.

Palmetto Arms It's still good to have them
"Easily take the target down even if the gun had no sights at all." Oh, shit...
I have a olight on my hk it blinds you. Win
Really well done Sir. Thank you for your time and efforts.
+Bill Blake You're welcome! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
good video, I own both. I installed the SRT in my 227 and now I like it much better than my HK
i simply got a gunsmith to make my HK45 trigger awesome.. only 150 bucks total
No thoughts on the LEM trigger?

I'm a happy SIG (West German made P226) owner since 1994 and I remember Hammer Time!
The sights you're describing on the H&K is phosphorus - same stuff used on analog watch faces.
Nice job, thanks for the hard work.
+Luke 22.36 Thanks for watching!
I own a hk45 and love it! Looking into the 227 :)
This was an awesome review! Thank you for sharing.
That was an awesome comment! Thanks for commenting! :-)
It's a P-227 for me- Thanks for the Video
I love my H&K45 ! In a world of compromise others DON'T !
there is no "better". each are great guns. which do you shoot better, that's what matters. I like both brands, both can take a beating.
95% sure the hk45 will do lem/sa as well..also, for me, the p30 style grips o n the p30 and hk45 are the best in the west
Hk wins out in over the top torture tests that I’ve seen
Maybe its just me, but it seems that the .45 is becoming popular again.

THANK YOU
the LEM is not an upgrade. It's just a different trigger setting
My rear hk sight is serated and blacked out and I have a green dot photo luminescent sight on the front.
Great comparison video , thanks for sharing.

Fnx45 vs hk45 would have been better in my opinion. Great channel, justin!
Arguably, true. But it had been done and I hadn't seen these two compared. Oh, and I didn't have the FNX-45. Notice I say "didn't". Look for a 1st Hundred on that one soon, and then who knows what comparisons I might do!! ;-) Thanks for watching!
Justin Opinion looking forward to it!!!
dont get why so few views on your videos...I really like your work and especially the slugfests.greetings from greece
What's the exact model of the Sig at :30 second mark? Is it also a 227?
keeganhockney Yep. That's the P227
HK 45T LEM trigger. The best!
Fnx45 is my top choice for a non 1911 45, great gun for the money
Great video! Nicely done sir
Thanks, Travis!
Excellent review. Tnx.
Both of those pistols are more accurate than almost any shooters ability!!! In a ransom rest they'd both have insane 25 yard groups
Lol !! 🤣 Rude as Hell.....but LMAO !
Cool 'tash and great videography!
Hk design is nice and has a good name eversince. Sig design is simple and very fuctional and can compete with the best guns. I’d go for HK since I don’t have one yet.
Good review ,so your HK45 came with polymer sights ? Mine came with metal sights but I did notice that mine is older BC yours is BE .
No - actually I was previously corrected on that comment and I need to put a little note in the video. The sights on my HK45 are steel. Sorry for the confusion!
No prob ,thanks for the quick reply :)
awesome review! Thanks. Just right.......I wanna SIG Sauer even more now.
wonder why he didn’t show the initial sig disassembly
can you do follow up video on how the key lock on HK45 would work? i believed that HK45 has key together with it on the package thanks
The lock is in the mag well. When you lock it the trigger doesn't function.
I should note I have a HK45CT, but it's the same.
When in a doubt, buy both.
Discuss magazine costs also.
I've been watching a couple of these slug fest videos and I have to ask. Which is the softest or flattest shooting .45 you have shown in these videos?
Man, that's a hard question, actually. Okay - top of my head: Glock 21, M&P 45, SIG P227 with SIG P320 right in there too.
Wish sig would make a p227 legion! But I do love my hk45 and usp .45!
well the p227 is now discontinued...
so never gonna happen.
The 2 most ergonomic 45 acp on the marketing, cant go wrong with either.
Should have shown the reset of the triggers like they do in every other review!
H&K Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow will be the Father of all guns, the rest is just music. Good video by the way ty.
Great review, head to toe. Thanks.
Question; I always hear you guys say that a magazine capacity is 10 rounds and then you mention +1. I never understood that. Does that mean that the magazine can actually hold 11 rounds then? If not, where is the +1 (in these statements) coming from? Thanks!
The +1 means one round in the chamber. So you would have one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine for the 10 +1.
hepek If the magazine ONLY holds 10 rounds and I load 1 of them in the chamber; 10-1 = 9 rounds actually left in the magazine itself, correct?
Why would I be "sneaking up behind someone" and need to drop the hammer?
And why would you be "sneaking up behind someone" and need to have a locked gun ??
When I went shopping for a new .45, I looked at the Sig 227. I didn't like the grip. Wasn't ergonomic at all for my hand. The HK45 was just right. Price was only about $100 difference.
Needless to say, I went with the HK45. Definitely my SHTF handgun.
great gun, I'd also try the SIG P220 though, you can get it in damn near the same capacity as the HK45 (Which I plan on getting, I got the P30 SK as my backup, P220 as main carry)
good video, nice GSD :-)
that's my buddy! Looks like you have your buddy too.
You're wrong about one thing... that magazine release button is steel, not aluminum. Check it with a magnet.
Darn it - I hate being wrong. You’d think I’d be used to it by now!
Takina uses either a Sig 226 or a 227 in Lycoris Recoil. At first I thought it was a 226 but she is seen testing some of Chisato's non-lethal bullets, and I'm pretty sure Chisato uses a 45. 🤔
Lol... there isn't nothing polymer about those steel sights on the HK45. Still a good review of both guns.
Safety lever!
Don't need no stinking safety lever!
Great review/comparison. With you're voice, it is like a Bob Ross gun show! No offense, keep it up.
Jimmy Marini LOL, someone made that Bob Ross comparison before. I take it as a compliment. Might have to work in saying, "maybe in your world...." into a future video. :) Thanks for the comment.
Nothing beats the HK
Hahaha love the bore axis joke.
I love cz pistols as well any one know if there making a cz 97 with a rail yet? the one I have shot and seen dont :(
Some of the comparisons are silly.
Sig 227 for the win 😃
I own both the
P227 Tactical Ops Elite
&
HK45 Tactical
Awesome guns!
Cosaco 1969 Obvious fanboism is obvious.
Now my rear sight on my hk45 is steel and much more squared up and can be used for one handed racking by snagging on the belt or whatever!!!
Sig
HK for me
I could happily carry either.
Dude you do know you’ve been commenting on this video for years, right? Lol that’s cool.
Could have done with out the electric guitar lol
If I had to sneak up on someone I sure as shit wouldn't be dropping the hammer if I had the advantage.
My girl prefers girth over length, therefore my P227 will get it done at the end of the day.
