The sequence of the action cut short and went well with different tones of music that sets the viewers to a suspense, drama and action mode which felt exciting and victorious in the end. Always love to watch Superman heroics blend into John William's music composition.

John Lee I for one would love to see Routh back as Superman! Like everyone else in this film (perhaps with the exception of Bosworth as Lois) the casting was spot on. There was so much good in this film, unlike the devisive newer ones being made now.
I enjoyed the movie, watched it a few times and enjoyed it even more as I caught on more details. But I am also disappointed because, having watched it several times like that, the major plot points were basically the first Superman movie, rehashed. That took away a few stars from enjoyment of the movie but still a good one.
Brandon Routh was the only thing I didn't enjoy to some degree about this movie. His effeminate acting/look is one of the reasons I couldn't stand the movie!
I enjoyed Superman Returns, even with it's flaws. The one thing I enjoyed the most, is how Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey put obvious effort into getting the mannerisms, and quirks of Christopher Reeves and Gene Hackman into their performances. That was a great way to honor those before them, and fans of the original movies.
in 1978 me and my twelve year old friend sat through the whole movie superman with our mouths wide open with shock that a man could fly and talked about this for weeks after .
Superman's line, "It's still the safest way to travel", is a reference to Christopher Reeve's comment in Superman (1978) after rescuing Lois from the falling helicopter. "Well, I certainly hope this little incident hasn't put you off flying, miss. Statistically speaking, of course, it's still the safest way to travel."
Of course. They were paying tribute to Christopher with that, as well as the close up and smile in Earth orbit. DC movies and TV shows are good at that. Examples: Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder guest starring in "Smallville." Helen Slater and Dean Cain guest starring in "Supergirl." Various TV show characters of the past putting in cameos in Arrowverse's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" (Robin, Huntress, the 90's Flash, Lucifer, Clark and Lois from "Smallville"). (I still hate that "Crisis on Infinite Earths" hasn't been released on DVD for American players yet!)
@@jimgilbert9984 In Man of Steel, they also paid tribute to Christopher Reeve when Henry's Superman is directly below the beam from the world engine right before he flies up and through it. His face essentially morphs to look like Christopher Reeve. Everyone that has played Superman has done a great job and portrayed him to what the writers provided, but I'd say Christopher Reeve has charisma the others lacked. Brendon did a great job, but he essentially just tried to copy Christopher Reeve's mannerisms, which worked great in some scenes and looked a bit to forced in others. Still liked the film. This airplane scene along with when he lifts half the ship and then holds it in mid air with one hand were my favorites. Tack on the John William's score and they get you in the feels...
@@LetsDIYIt Do you know how Christopher audtioned for the Superman role? He was a skinny guy, so he wore a big, bulky sweater to look like he had to build to play Superman. After he got the part, he worked out like crazy to build up his muscles.
So true. The trailer actually did a slightly better job than the movie itself with Supes approaching the plane. The Air Traffic Control cut scene should have been done better, more shock or fear on their faces. They did a good job showing him catch back up to the fuselage after the wing broke. THAT part and the catch were nicely done. But the approach needed something more. He had been gone for 5 years. Something was just missing.
Routh was perfect as Clark Kent. I wasn't sold on him until I saw him as Kent. Now I can't see anyone else playing Superman. Beats the shit out of Henry Cavill 🤦🏻♂️ But this "edit" is shite 😂
I'm a 58-year-old man I get goosebumps every time I hear that music when he's running down the street and he opens his shirt and reveals the Superman suit
Love the musical score when he finally stops it... Then the action reaction force effect causes the plane to vibrate... Then he gently let's it dwn... That beat is glorious!!!!!?
The way it still should be. I thought this young man did an admirable job in the role and he deserved a second shot to make the sequel. He emulated Reeve in his portrayal and that’s the way it should stay. You can keep all this new dark modern nonsense and shove it. Superman is a hero who should uplift you and not make you depressed and moody. Long live Christopher Reeve! The greatest superman ever. And thank you Brandon Routh for doing a wonderful job channeling Reeve in this film.
Superman was always dropping some knowledge at the end of whatever he was doing. I'm upset they took that out of the movies. He always had these witty one liners.
I watched this and aside from the blurriness I thought to myself, "isn't this originally how it was? What was changed?" After reading the description all I can say is this edit is perfect. Spot on.
ive been a fan since i was 7 im now 65 this sequence is my idea of superman beautifully edited and you could see him fly not just disappear in a nanosecond well done young man
Thank you. It's been clear to me from the comments that people have very different views of the character and many are unaware of what I was trying to do here but I'm so glad that so many others like yourself share the classic version of Superman.
That’s very true I actually like him better than the superman that they have now and even changed his outfit but the best of all time of course is Christopher reeve I’m sure everyone can agree on that but the modern day superman should have been continued by Brandon Routh I was so upset when they got this other guy he really doesn’t fit the superman look I think they just went with him because he’s a big boy
This Scene is so badass, especially when the wing of the plane torn off, Superman stopped for a split second and thought "Well that's not going to work, plan B NOW". THE SARGE
@@thesarge4457 The reaction shot of Superman with the wing was one of the many I added for this edit so I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting.
Routh Has True Heroic Bearing! His Arrowverse Appearances, Including The Crossover Where He Reprises His Superman Performance Show That It Was The Script And NOT His Portrayal That Made "Superman Returns" The Disappointment Everyone Thinks It Is.
Brandon rough is the strongest Superman we’ve seen in a movie. He’s also my favorite Superman of all time. He embedded the character better than anyone in my opinion. This movie is just phenomenal
I loved both Brandon and Kate as Clark/Superman and Lois in this movie. I thought they were both fantastic. I'm so disappointed that they never made a sequel with this cast.
Even a youngster like me at 24, the 1978 and 1980 superman 1 and 2 were my favourite childhood movies, it doesn't matter what era it was I watched the old superman movies all time, all thanks to my dad who got me into superman.
Brandon Routh did an excellent job !!! I love superman returns, his superman is in my heart .. Christophere Reeve and Brandon Routh are my favorite superman ❤❤
Thank you for fixing this scene. It is short sweet and has a very nostalgic feel to it and I feel that a lot of people would have reacted differently if it was made this way.
I came close to crying when I watched this and thought why didn't I get this feeling when I watched it in theatre. The main thing I was thinking was how awesome that in her real time of need Superman was there Unexpectedly. And how because he was gone for so long when people saw him back it was like seeing him for the first time again and back just when they need him. Then I realized why it felt that way, because of the music. Why did they not use this music, that was a crime
There's plenty of "Superman Returns" scenes that should have been remade, but the plane rescue sequence is not among them. The SR plane rescue sequence is still by far the best action sequence in any Superman movie.
Far too many people are hating this movie for no reason at all! This movie is not a reboot, remake, or reimagined movie. It is a continuation of Christopher Reeves' Superman Movie from 80's. Brandon Routh did a teriffic job playing as Superman the way Christopher Reeves would have played it. Blame the script/story not the actors who did outstanding job.
There’s something about the original theme song that a superman movie can’t do without. When I hear those trumpets my heart pounds harder, my chest swells, I sit up straight and I’m ready to take on the world!
I did my own edit of Superman v Batman, too. Made it a lean 68 minute Batman film out of the extra-bloated director cut. No Holly Hunter or "grandma's peach tea". No Clarke Kent at all or Lois. They were so busy trying to build an instant and serious franchise that they forget how to make a movie fun. (I also added music to a few of the early Universal monster movies, but that's different because they didn't have music at all to begin with. I just "finished" the job.)
@@mekrabj2901 It's actually not a bad costume. I wish the S emblem was larger and the maroon color was a brighter red and I think it would've been great.
EPIC... Im 47 and when i first saw Superman as a child these scenes made me cry... This re-edit brought back my tears... Years later in my adult life I would stop a robbery in progress and would stop 2 bullets with my body... Didnt hurt though... Because... Superman!
That "Can you read my mind" theme when Lois saw a flying object out in the planes window was right on cue... Fantastic Job you did here! Routh was amazing in this movie.
I never liked how young they cast Lois in this movie. The whole thing was that Superman had returned after being gone for a long time. Having Lois be older and Superman remaining young would have been a great contrast. I would really love to see a Superman story that explores Lois and Superman's relationship as she grows old and dies. There probably is a comic somewhere if so I'd like to know about it.
You have a good point. IIRC, she was around 27 in this movie (the character). That means that around the age of 21-22, she had become the star reporter already for a while, met up with Superman, Superman spent some time as Superman and made the world love him, Lois got pregnant by him, and then Superman leaves and returns 5 years later. This kind of timeline would have been better with an older Lois. If they are following the story of Superman 1 and 2, then Clark and Lois should be in their late 30s.
You might want to check out Superman/Batman: Generations. They were limited series. I think they were by John Byrne, sure they must be collected in a trade paperback or hardcover somewhere. They were written in single-Earth continuity, but unlike post-Crisis main continuity (which kept versions of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman as having debuted in the Silver Age (for lack of a better term) and had no big trio for the Justice Society in the 1930s-1940s), they had S/B/WW debut in their original era. It addresses what I thought was a weakness of the post-Crisis single-Earth continuity - How could the Trinity be the "lead" heroes of Earth when they debut decades after heroes (the JSA) who are still active? It was a bit of a creator's love story for eras, stories, characters, art, and concepts - reconciling them to each other, and an occasional wink & nod to inconsistencies (including introducing some of their own). --- They were much more about Superman and Batman than Wonder Woman. Interacting with different eras of heroes and villains, as well as generations of their own families - over decades and centuries. Long life spans easily believable for Clark & Diana, came up with an explanation for Bruce. --- Generations I was four double-story issues, set 10 years apart: 1939, 49, 59, 69, 79, 89, 99, and flashback/prequel in 1929. Generations II was four double-story issues, set 11 years apart: 1942, 53, 64, 75, 86, 97, 2008, and 2019 (flashback/prequel to 1920). Generations III was, umm... twelve regular issues, set a century apart: 1925, 2025, 2125, 2225, 2325, 2425, 2525, a side trip to 19th-century Smallville, 2625, 2725, 2825, 2925. I & II focused a lot on the Superman and Batman families; versions of the JSA, the Teen Titans & the JLA; Luthor; Joker; Ultra-Humanite, Ra's Al Ghul. As III left most of the familiar 20th/early 21st century heroes and villains behind, it did more with the New Gods, Apokolips, the Green Lantern Corps, and the Legion of Super Heroes.
Balls he the worst best is Henry Cavill the Tom selling then Christopher Reeves and I grow up with Christopher Reeves superman even saw superman 2 in the cinema but this is the best superman scene in this movie in Reeves day helicopter cavil oil rig Brian picked a man that was two skinny to be superman
It's cute how the movie acknowledges physics when Superman's hands crush into the plane's nose, but then he's able to lay it on the ground without the airframe cracking especially near the front which is bearing all the weight as it transitions to horizontal.
I think it's TTK (tactile telekinesis) that he is able to exude onto objects he lifts. Huge objects and structures that would yes collapse under there own weight.
LOL Christopher Reeve's superman was just as cheesy as the Roger Moore James Bond movies... just thinking about them i just threw up in my mouth a little

The one thing I enjoyed the most, is how Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey put obvious effort into getting the mannerisms, and quirks of Christopher Reeves and Gene Hackman into their performances. That was a great way to honor those before them, and fans of the original movies.
The flying sequences were the best since Chris Reeve's.
I'm not a fan of how Henry's Superman is always having him whooshing everytime he flies..
*Its, not it's. Christopher Reeve, not Reeves.
"Even with its flaws"... you passive/aggressive types are everywhere. SR... was wonderful and full of heart.
Spacey's role was wayyy over the top and a very poor Lex Luther. Routh was bland and lacked personality and charisma.

The Use of the music in this scene, opens soft, comes on strong in the middle, and the perfect fulfillment at the end
in 1978 me and my twelve year old friend sat through the whole movie superman with our mouths wide open with shock that a man could fly and talked about this for weeks after .
😄👍
@Ronald Hill 😁👍
@Ronald Hill mate you just trumped my story well done !
michaelstarwars66
I did too and at 12 in 1978 lol. Like star wars it was ahead of its time.
This scene look like cartoon... I miss Christopher Reeve ☺☺😌😌
Of course.
They were paying tribute to Christopher with that, as well as the close up and smile in Earth orbit.
DC movies and TV shows are good at that.
Examples:
Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder guest starring in "Smallville."
Helen Slater and Dean Cain guest starring in "Supergirl."
Various TV show characters of the past putting in cameos in Arrowverse's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" (Robin, Huntress, the 90's Flash, Lucifer, Clark and Lois from "Smallville").
@@LetsDIYIt
Do you know how Christopher audtioned for the Superman role?
He was a skinny guy, so he wore a big, bulky sweater to look like he had to build to play Superman.
After he got the part, he worked out like crazy to build up his muscles.
Routh did a great job its not his fault the script was pretty dam poor 😕 supes is the greatest superhero and deserves better scripted films!!!
Totally agree, his Superman was one of the best
I felt the same with Ryan Reynolds as GL.
Routh was perfect as Clark Kent. I wasn't sold on him until I saw him as Kent. Now I can't see anyone else playing Superman. Beats the shit out of Henry Cavill 🤦🏻♂️
But this "edit" is shite 😂
I still cant see how some1 would think the SPACE SHUTTLE launching from ontop a passager plane be a safe idea.
I don't understand the dislikes!!!
This scene is incredible,
Lex Luthor fans!
All the critics (fan & professional) that know nothing but how to hate.
I'm a 58-year-old man I get goosebumps every time I hear that music when he's running down the street and he opens his shirt and reveals the Superman suit
Williams's music takes this scene to a whole new level !!!!
What? It's in the fucking film. This is weird.
Because of this I rewatched the whole film and I can say with conviction that the musical score made a whole lot of difference to this one scene.
Love the musical score when he finally stops it... Then the action reaction force effect causes the plane to vibrate... Then he gently let's it dwn... That beat is glorious!!!!!?
Now THAT is Superman 😀
Why didn't they keep that classic Williams score?
They did. They blended it nicely with new stuff.
John Williams is the greatest movie composer in history. I know most people think Star wars was his best, but I think the Superman theme is the best
@dislike injustice I feel sorry for you.
Brandon.routh también hubiera sido un mejor
Superman pero hizo lo
mejor que pudo
@@thomasfleig1184 indeed Superman theme is a classic!
Brandon Ruth - U were better even! Cheers Man.
Superman was always dropping some knowledge at the end of whatever he was doing. I'm upset they took that out of the movies. He always had these witty one liners.
A prime example of how editing and the proper music cues are very* important. Modern films have lost sight of this fact.
John Williams' music TOTALLY saves this scene from being a load of toss! Such a legend.
Christopher Reeves and Brandon Routh are the greatest actor play as Superman..so perfect !

I watched this and aside from the blurriness I thought to myself, "isn't this originally how it was? What was changed?" After reading the description all I can say is this edit is perfect. Spot on.
ive been a fan since i was 7 im now 65 this sequence is my idea of superman beautifully edited and you could see him fly not just disappear in a nanosecond well done young man
Thank you. It's been clear to me from the comments that people have very different views of the character and many are unaware of what I was trying to do here but I'm so glad that so many others like yourself share the classic version of Superman.
the music score was brilliant made the scene .
z
michaelstarwars66 , from the original Superman, 1978.
It's John Williams.. pure class...
I still believe Brandon Routh is the best modern day Superman!
Mark Metzler agreed. I feel that he captured the nerdiness of Kent, and the essence of Superman. Second only to Christopher Reeves.
Mark Metzler reeve is the tire Superman
Totally agree.
he looked the part
That’s very true I actually like him better than the superman that they have now and even changed his outfit but the best of all time of course is Christopher reeve I’m sure everyone can agree on that but the modern day superman should have been continued by Brandon Routh I was so upset when they got this other guy he really doesn’t fit the superman look I think they just went with him because he’s a big boy
This Scene is so badass, especially when the wing of the plane torn off, Superman stopped for a split second and thought "Well that's not going to work, plan B NOW". THE SARGE

for me brandon routh really fits to superman. his charisma was there. its just so sad that critics hadnt see it right
Brandon Routh made a great Man of Steel.
If the used this music in the new movie people would lose their minds in joy
I loved both Brandon and Kate as Clark/Superman and Lois in this movie. I thought they were both fantastic. I'm so disappointed that they never made a sequel with this cast.
100% agreed! Such a waste of talent and possibilities. Never could bring myself to see MoS.
It's really the difference in passion, I think the fan edits show off how people really feel about Superman more than the movie did
God I still love that music.
It is amazing how just the sound track could of fixed so much wrong with that movie.
I cannot imagine a superhero world without him.
You mean her/cake/pufter.
Gotta say when Superman leaped into the air and saved the plane, I got excited and teary eyed. It's that music I swear. R.I.P. Christopher Reeves.
Reeve, it's Reeve, not Reeves.
I don't understand why it wasn't a hit ! I loved the way it played like a sequel to the original first four movies! It deserved a sequel to!!
Brandon's look and costume reminds me so much of Christopher Reeves portrayal. This was very well edited video! Thanks for sharing.
Reeve, not Reeves.
also the voice,,, inside the plane scene
I was thinking🤔...
If Supes can run *faster* than the eye can see, then why would he run down a darkened alley to change into his supersuit?😕
William's score brings the awesomeness in that scene! Goosebumps all over.. Good job, thank you!
This has so much more emotion with the original John Williams score. Love it and thanks for doing this.
I don't say the word hero very often, but you are the greatest hero in American history.

Brandon Routh did an excellent job !!! I love superman returns, his superman is in my heart .. Christophere Reeve and Brandon Routh are my favorite superman ❤❤
Moral of the Story: Always hang out with Lois Lane, for that emergency get out of jail free card.
Great reply!!
or a near death experience.
On the other hand, if you don't hang out with her, you're way less likely to get into an emergency in the first place.
Thank you for fixing this scene. It is short sweet and has a very nostalgic feel to it and I feel that a lot of people would have reacted differently if it was made this way.
This is still my favorite action sequence, it has everything.
I really enjoy this movie, that’s why I bought my super man T-shirt though I’m 51 years old.
There's plenty of "Superman Returns" scenes that should have been remade, but the plane rescue sequence is not among them.
The SR plane rescue sequence is still by far the best action sequence in any Superman movie.
Absolutely.
Totally right
Okay, we paid for tickets, do ya mind removin' the fuselage so we can get on with the game?
Way better than the original, music makes a huge difference.
I totally agree. The Henry Cavill Superman theme was lacklustre in my opinion. It would have been better if they got the John Williams theme.
Brandon Routh is the best Superman next to Christopher Reeve.
Reeve was GREAT, but if he worked out for an extra 6 months and developed some real muscle, he would have been 100% perfect for the part.
Agreed.
If DC and Cavill can't make an agreement, they have to give Routh another Superman feature film
Most Definitely
He was underrated deserved better Henry Cavil is better.
I love how fan edits for this film and Man of Steel are better than the proper movies.
Superman returns is also so good. Not the best but not the least.(attractive)
Have you seen a fan edit of avengers end game someone has taken out captain marvel and replaced her with superman 🦸♂️ 😂😂😂
It cuz they don't care like us the fan
Yours is better! Thanks for your work.
I can't even imagine Indiana Jones or Star Wars without John Williams.
Awesome movie!! Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. 👍

Brandon Routh was a great Super Man, what sucked for this was the movie plot.
The costume could have been better too. Looks too much like a Superboy costume rather than a Superman costume.

🇬🇧🙋🏾♀️Yes 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾I got chills when he said "statistically flying is the safest way to travel" Rip Christopher 😢
---
They were much more about Superman and Batman than Wonder Woman. Interacting with different eras of heroes and villains, as well as generations of their own families - over decades and centuries. Long life spans easily believable for Clark & Diana, came up with an explanation for Bruce.
---
Generations I was four double-story issues, set 10 years apart: 1939, 49, 59, 69, 79, 89, 99, and flashback/prequel in 1929.
I forgot to say that Generations (especially I & II) shows our heroes' friends and family aging around them, and some of what it led to.
Wow! Adding the John Williams score to those scenes made them look allot better!! Amazing!

they should have kept on superman....he was good
It's cute how the movie acknowledges physics when Superman's hands crush into the plane's nose, but then he's able to lay it on the ground without the airframe cracking especially near the front which is bearing all the weight as it transitions to horizontal.
I think it's TTK (tactile telekinesis) that he is able to exude onto objects he lifts. Huge objects and structures that would yes collapse under there own weight.
