Thanks for subscribing!!! There’s too many reviewers out there being too serious. I’m treating it like a conversation with my mates and just having a laugh. I would say give the remixes a go! A tear came to my eye when I first heard the remix for Sgt Peppers. 😢
Giles Martin is the wrong person to have do the remixes. I would have had the people involved in the Yellow Submarine Songtrack to do the remix project. Also the Red set is missing some very crucial songs especially knowing that each side length is much less than the Blue set. The British LP's use to have 7 songs per side. The red set has 6 songs.
Many of these tracks sound improved to my ears - particularly I Saw Her Standing There and I Want to Hold Your Hand both of which feature enhanced rhythm guitar. A Hard Day's Night sounds very fresh as well with the bongoes higher in the mix, One track I have an issue with is We Can Work I Out where the great tambourine work is harder to hear now. All in all, however, quite an amazing collection.
I noticed an error on Old Brown Shoe. Before the second verse begins the lead guitar is missing the first few notes, and then during the second verse the same first few notes of the lead guitar is missing. It does it twice in a row just before the second verse, and duringthe second verse. Not sure how they missed that? This is on the blue CD. It's like the guitar was muted.
@@dinnerwithgreedo Sounds as if Apple needs to give a few Beatles fans a chance to listen to the remixes before releasing them, to catch things like this, and give their opinion on the final mixes of these songs? But they would never allow us peasants to give our opinion. Lol
Hello Greedo, been a Beatles fan since I was 3 years old...1964. In America, Capital Records echoed to death the early Beatles music. The songs the exemplified effect most were songs like You Can't Do That, Rock-n-Roll Music, I Feel Fine, and She's A Woman. Keep in mind this is what Americans grew up listening to and when we finally started hearing the EMI versions in 1986+ and realized these songs were echoless, I was disappointed. The Capital versions were my favorite because the echo added character especially to I Feel Fine/She's A Woman singles. She's A Woman was not on the Red Album but the American release of Beatles For Sale was a combination that included some songs from A Hard Day's Night and Beatles For Sale. The USA was called Beatles 65' released in time for the end of the year Holiday Season. I find these echo versions interesting in the mono pressings and in my opinion added character. Yes these were not released the way the Beatles intended but remember, this is what we Americans grew up listening to. There are Capital mono recordings with the echo here on TH-cam. I invite you to give those songs a listen to and see what you think. The last other observation is Day Tripper in the EMI release is the dropout of the low note in the main riff of the song after Paul sings "Tried to please her" the 2nd time he sings that line. The dropout has always been noticeable however in American version from Yesterday and Today from early 1966 does not have the dropout. Check it out if you get the chance. Loving your review of Both Red and Blue. By the way, She's A Woman should have been added. Listen to the Capital mono version with Echo....one of my Favorites.
As long as there is a market for it, the record labels will continue to publish remixed/remastered Beatles albums every 10 to 20 years and most likely will redo all the albums with AI sound alterations for generations to come.
I also want your review on Old Brown Shoe. With headphones listen to the 30 second mark for the fade out guitar. Now play the original….This is why Giles should only use the d mixing technology when necessary. The later material like Walrus, Old Brown, MMT, Revolution, could have been remixed exactly like Sgt.Pepper or Abbey Road. The later songs are too complicated to reconstruct them.
Now & Then shouldn't have been on it. I think they missed a trick there. They could have left it off and then us vinyl folks would have had to buy both on vinyl.
As far as the new mixes I like them a lot, the older songs I still like the original Mono mixes better. Songs like I Want To Hold Your Hand sound more impactful in Mono and the Cymbals on the Mono Can't buy Me Love sound far better than the new mix. The Middle era songs like Yesterday and Norwegian Wood I hear an improvement with the new mixes. Songs like Nowhere Man and Hey Bulldog I think were better done on 1999 Yellow Submarine Songtrack by Peter Cobbin. It's all subjective weather you like Giles Martin mixes I generally do (especially for earphones), but it also highlights how good the older mixes are like the Mono's and others. Also I compared the 23' Red/Blue LPs to the 2014 AAA Red/Blue LPs The 23' sound much more compressed and lacks a little in high end. The 2014 Red sounds amazing everything just pops in comparison better vocals and detailed high end with a punchy Bass. Cheers
Looking forward to finally for me hearing a GERMAN pressing. Read all the time how much better GERMAN pressings are. Hope my turntable is up to par!!:-) thanks for posting and God Bless:-)
The problem with both She Loves You and Love Me Do goes back to the fact the original 2 track session tapes, in both instances, were either wiped or destroyed soon after the recording sessions had ended. All that survives even to this day are the 2 track mono masters that were used to press the singles onto vinyl. Modern technology has probably done the best that can be done for both of them given the inherent limitations of the source material. Otherwise the album itself is an aural revelation, especially to those of us who were brought up on those small and tinny sounding mono Dansette 45/78 speed record players in the early 1960s. A worn out stylus itself could carve through and wreck an entire record collection in about 6 hours.
Yeah…. I think the real problem is where it’s placed on the album. You notice a sudden drop in ‘quality’. If it was next to Love Me Do I probably wouldn’t have noticed it that much. All good though. I’m thankful for what they’ve done.
The problem is we live in an era where since 2007 (cb) to 2008 (dom) to BeatlesHD channel in 2015 or so. Every other fan has foudn ways to make better stereo mixes. For one, the german version is in stereo and you can easily remove the vocals. The bass and drums is also better in other mixes. It's really interested how in 2023 they went with it. Love Me Do is great, but She Loves You needs some more work IMO. Especially when other fans have done better stereo fakes.
4:12 - "I'm not going through every track, that would be mental." Yeah. Much saner to find covers of every song in their entire output. Kidding - I enjoy your videos very much.
The original albums didn't have the insert sheet but they did have the lyric inners. In the UK the sleeves were laminated too. I think the ballads like And I Love Her, This Boy and Yesterday, benefit most from the remixes. Ringo's drums sound a little dull to me and lacking in the punch that made the original releases hit you like a sledgehammer. Having said that, I really liked the positioning of the vocals and instruments in the mix and, for the most part, Paul's bass was really lifted to a new level. I also prefer Peter Cobbin's mix on the Yellow Submarine Songtrack album. Generally speaking, I find Giles Martin's heavy handed touch, especially with the bass, quite annoying, although the latest 2023 mixes are a lot better than the earlier remixes that he did. I would recommend getting a 1980s Dutch pressing of the album, which are usually quite reasonably priced, because that is a fantastic sounding set. I also have French, German, UK black vinyl original and UK 1979 coloured vinyl copies and have done comparisons of them all. The 1979 coloured vinyl ones are by far the worst, although the blue is a lot better than the red. Fortunately coloured vinyl is a lot better these days,
That’s odd just white inner sleeve’s , for the year 1976- 1977 . I got another 2 copy’s of the red & blue Albums at about the same time as you & they had red inner sleeves for the 1962 -1966 & blue inner sleeves for the 1967 - 1970 .now the catalogue numbers for Both Albums where 1. PCSP 717 ( Red Album. ) 2.PCSP 718. ( Blue Album ) Where your copies an import ? Or did you get them new in the uk ?
@@BeatleJohn813 They are german pressings I bought in Germany. 1 C 188-05 307/08 (red album) 1 C 188-05 309/10 (blue album) My research has shown that there have never been sleeves with lyrics in Germany. At least I couldn't find any. The CD versions included a small booklet.
With reference to the early tracks, at fist I was very disappointed, mainly because the guitars sound like they were 100 feet from the mic. They are much to low in the mix, and also contain echo. I agree with She Loves You. It sounded out of place compared to the others. At first the stereo on this was disappointing. Granted, there’s not a lot to work with, but I thought they would separate the vocals, and have the backing vocals spread out. Again, guitar is much too low. My original Swan 45 sounds much clearer than this. SLY and I Saw Her Standing There have lost much of the excitement. For SLY the original mono 45 sounds much better, and for ISHST, the original stereo LP version is killer. However, I’ve been listening to the early tracks quite a bit over the last few days, and I am liking them better than when I first heard them. The absolute BIGGEST let down for me is that they used the same single version of Love Me Do that was included on the Now and Then single. I understand it was already done for that purpose so they just threw it on Red, but that is not the version on the original Red album. I much prefer the Andy White on drums version. That sounds more polished. I was hoping they would remix that version. But, they took the lazy way out. I wonder if they ever remix the Please Please Me album, will they just use the same version again. One last thing, I do not like what they did with the ending of Please Please Me. I’d think this would have been the perfect opportunity to align the ending harmonica. Instead, they all but removed it. All you hear is a very faint echo, still out of synch.
Are my ears deceiving me on A Hard Day's Night? Let me know if I may be wrong but it seems to me the drums and percussions are out in front that to give this song an even more driving beat. I have to say, I am impressed. Giles Martin, Your father would be proud of you. Mixing is everything. It can make the difference between an ok song and a fantastic song. BEATLES FOREVER!!!!!
Overall it’s great, but the issues could have been avoided. ISHST Ringo’s drums are so in your face and loud, but why didn’t Giles push up the guitar solo to avoid making it sound watered down.
It's scientifically impossible for 'the dynamics' to be better with vinyl than with uncompressed digital files. I collect vinyl and cds, but I never like the aforementioned myth/fantasy to go unchallenged. I love the new remixes - they're startlingly good.
But you’ll agree that albums have to be mastered differently for vinyl? I wanted to put a bunch of songs that I’d written onto vinyl and one stipulation was that is must be ‘mastered for vinyl’. I’ve no idea how to do that so dropped the idea. I saw somewhere (can’t remember where) the waveforms of Now & Then being compared. The CD was just a block and the vinyl was nice and spikey. They said it’d give the song a more dynamic sound as it’s not over compressed. But hey… I don’t know. Thanks for your comment.
@@dinnerwithgreedo The CD and streaming files are compressed. The vast majority of people listening to a digital file will hear them like that so, consequently, the vinyl does have better dynamics for most people.
I think the "Red" album was a rush job. Maybe Giles had an intern do some of the work. There's a lack of consistency in the mixes. "We Can Work It Out" and "Day Tripper" come to mind released together in a single should have sounded more in a like as far as sound yet here they couldn't have sounded more different. To me, the best sounding and balanced mix in the "Red" album is "We can Work It Out"
NO MEN, I DON’T LIKE “RED REMIXES”, BETTER THE “ONE” remixes Remastered in 2015 and the ones in Yellow Submarine. “She loves you” sounds like a mono ‘78rpm from Caruso era…”A hard day’s night” orribile compressed in the middle and with bongoes (!) as a Jackhammer…”Eight days a week” has completely lost the initial “crescendo” (the first fading in the rock history) and dinamics; “Can’t buy me love” has a little and narrow stereo panning and has lost the ADR-double tracking in Paul’s voice; “Help!” have voices reduced in volume and compressed crispy sound; The same for “I want to hold your hand”. Narrow, compressed and crispy sound also for pieces from “Rubber soul”. “Nowhere man” has a way better version in “Yellow Submarine O.s.t.”
Agreed. There must be a reason for it though. Timings on the vinyl maybe? It’d be good to know why? Maybe it’s because it’s a good selling point for the Revolver boxset.
While Love Me Do was not really talked about, I think the omission of the tambourine was abhorrent. Yeah, I know Ringo played that instead of the drums on the Alan White version, but they could have easily included it. It would have added a breath of high end which is quite frankly needed in this mix.
The Andy White version was was the version on the original album. It is MUCH better than the single version. The vocals and the harmonica are tight and Ringo on tambourine adds a little extra. The single version to me sounds like it was just a rehearsal take. The vocals are all over the place and the harmonica is sloppy. Love me Do on Past Masters contained the Single version that is presented here. I doubt they will substitute it for the better version.
@@dinnerwithgreedo Why would it be on Past Masters? That's always been the Ringo version. Hopefully Andy Whites version will be on a remixed Please Please Me album.
I just "knew" you were going to single out She Loves You. Yes! Agree completely, Can't quite understand how they let this through, probably THE iconic early single, especially in the UK, and as you say the crisp energy of the remixes is suddently sucked out when you get to a muted and muffled-sounding SLY. Such a disappointment. So much so that if they re-did the album over again with just SLY fixed, I'd buy it again just for that. SLY is that important.
Apparently it’s to do with the source material. There’s a bunch of song that are nothing but MONO so that’s all they had to work with. It’s good considering BUT there’s a noticeable dip in quality where it’s placed on the album. Had they stuck it next to Love Me Do (also a mono source), I probably wouldn’t have noticed it.
@@dinnerwithgreedo I realise they only had the mono master because the original 2-track had been wiped back in 1963 or thereabouts. The familar version has always seemed slightly noisy and lacking clarity. That's why I was so looking forward to a new demix/remix, not for stereo per se but in hopes the MAL separation would let them clean it up. But instead the process seems to have dulled it, as though the top end has been cut and the volume feels muted. So it's lost some punch. I'd honestly rather listen to the unremixed original.
She Loves You is very muddy. Like a pillow is over the speakers suffocating the music. The mix itself is great, but where is the treble. Compare She Loves You on the 1 compilation. It actually can breathe. It sounds open and the vocals are pushed out. Disclaimer: I’m a huge fan of the remixes overall and that’s all I listen to these days (when listening to the Beatles). That being said when you compare Sgt.Pepper 2017, White 2018, Abbey Road 2019, Let It Be 2021, Revolver 2022, the songs just sound better than the original stereo/mono. The mix on the mono sometimes is better, but not the sound quality. Here when comparing She Loves You the mix sounds great, but the sound quality is worse. Listen to the 1 compilation and provide feedback? Did Giles use the mono masters or stereo master for these early remixes?
I’d love to remixes, but I don’t think there should be any cover of another artist song on this album. The Beatles had 200 original songs why put a cover on when you could included. I’ll follow the sun or Rain? It makes no sense.
I agree. I don’t see the point of the covers being on here. BUT if the purpose of the album is to give a retrospective of their career… well damn it, you’ve gotta stick the covers on there. 🙄 Annoying.
I agree with you, she loves you did not sound very good at all. One of the earlier CD mixes sounds terrific. So we do get a great copy of it, but just not on this album. Matter fact, I thought a lot of things on this album just sounded OK… Not Giles Martin’s best work for sure. Several songs in this album did not sound as good as some of the previously remixed or remastered songs ! Never thought Giles was as good as his father.
I think the reason SLY sounds so poor, is that they lost the master tape, so a real stereo mix was never done. I believe that the boffins at Abbey road along with Peter Jackson created this mix on the red album.
I have the cds Except for a few songs the sound quality leaves much to be desired. Some of the mixes work and others not so much. I would prefer human remixes over this AI for the remaining cds.
The master tapes of She Loves You weren't lost. Standard procedure at EMI Studios at the time was to erase the original two-track session tape for singles once they had been mixed down to the (usually mono) master tape used to press records. Besides She Loves You, three other Beatles songs at the time suffered the same fate: Love Me Do, I'll Get You, and P.S. I Love You.
She loves you sounds terrible indeed here. Hey Bulldog is also much better on Yellow Submarine soundtrack in my opinion. Some of the new mixes are good though!
Do you mean that in a 'I don't like The Beatles' kinda way, or do you mean that in a 'They split at the right time to perfectly encapsulate an outstanding/remarkable body of work' kinda way?
You must be very rich to buy the same music over and over and then you don't play the actual records? "Completism" is a mental disorder! Luckily I have been cured.
Well, I don't see the point in these endless remixes and remasters. Yeah, yeah, technology has improved and the beatles would have used that blablabla. Would we also repaint Picasso's Blue Period, because today he would possibly use this new modern "bright blue" then?
My Blue Album review is now up!! th-cam.com/video/cXQAcOJVKvw/w-d-xo.html

Love a hard days night, the bongos are loud, sounds like we back in beatlemania!
That is a great mix!
Giles Martins name is on it, but there’s a team behind it. In fact, one of the team behind the YS Songtrack is part of the team for these remixes.
US original versions might have 6 songs per side as that was the standard on albums then
I noticed the dip in She Loves You too
Many of these tracks sound improved to my ears - particularly I Saw Her Standing There and I Want to Hold Your Hand both of which feature enhanced rhythm guitar. A Hard Day's Night sounds very fresh as well with the bongoes higher in the mix, One track I have an issue with is We Can Work I Out where the great tambourine work is harder to hear now. All in all, however, quite an amazing collection.
I agree! Overall this is a great sounding album.
“They’re so good why weren’t they more famous!” 😂😂😂
I remember when we were teased from vinyl to cd on the account that cd has “ better dynamics 🥴” oh the 1980’s eh.
Me too and it’s in my Blue Album review. Already filmed it and I show a comparison too. Will release it in a couple of days.
@@dinnerwithgreedo Sounds as if Apple needs to give a few Beatles fans a chance to listen to the remixes before releasing them, to catch things like this, and give their opinion on the final mixes of these songs? But they would never allow us peasants to give our opinion. Lol
That’s a good point and idea. 💡
Thanks for your comment!
I’ll listen to the American versions later!
(I’ve got them but never properly listened to them).
Re: covers... She's Leaving Home, by Syreeta Wright (w/Stevie Wonder), is totally worth checking out!
Thank you.
I won’t be at that song for a long time BUT I’ll make a note.
As long as there is a market for it, the record labels will continue to publish remixed/remastered Beatles albums every 10 to 20 years and most likely will redo all the albums with AI sound alterations for generations to come.
I think the same about how bloody good they were every time I listen to the ‘1’ album!
My Blue album review will be up shortly (in like 10 minutes!!) and I mention and show comparisons on OLD BROWN SHOW and MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR!
It's true. The only reason it's on LP3 is because Apple didn't know what to do with N&T. So they chose extra tracks for red and blue to expand both.
Cheers
Thanks for your comment (as always).
I agree with everything you said!!
Looking forward to finally for me hearing a GERMAN pressing. Read all the time how much better GERMAN pressings are. Hope my turntable is up to par!!:-) thanks for posting and God Bless:-)
Thanks for your comment!
That's a crazy hot take
"The Beatles are brilliant!"
She Loves you is a mono sourced song. That's why the fidelity is similar
True… but it sounds worse than Love Me Do which is also from a mono source. That might be what tuned my ear as to what to expect.
4:12 - "I'm not going through every track, that would be mental." Yeah. Much saner to find covers of every song in their entire output. Kidding - I enjoy your videos very much.
You spotted my little joke!! 😂
Fortunately coloured vinyl is a lot better these days,
I bloody hope so, I bought coloured!!
At the time 1973- I had every LP by THE BEATLES so I didn't need the Red and Blue album. The blue cover is cool.
We Can Work it Out is a standout for me. listening back to She Loves You, i can see what you mean.
It's slightly annoying but i guess they did the best with what they had.
I hear more distortion during really loud parts of the songs. The AI works much better for the quiet ballads.
Morning , on the original issues of the red & blue Albums , issued in 1973 , the lyrics were printed on the inner sleeves .
They are on the new set too.
The albums I bought in 1976 or '77 didn't have any lyrics on them, the inner sleeves were just white.
That’s odd just white inner sleeve’s , for the year 1976- 1977 . I got another 2 copy’s of the red & blue Albums at about the same time as you & they had red inner sleeves for the 1962 -1966 & blue inner sleeves for the 1967 - 1970 .now the catalogue numbers for Both Albums where
1. PCSP 717 ( Red Album. )
2.PCSP 718. ( Blue Album )
Where your copies an import ? Or did you get them new in the uk ?
@@BeatleJohn813
They are german pressings I bought in Germany.
1 C 188-05 307/08 (red album)
1 C 188-05 309/10 (blue album)
My research has shown that there have never been sleeves with lyrics in Germany.
The Beatles G.O.A.T!
CORRECT!
Vinyl always sounds better, Red is great, but I'm furious with Walrus. Really disappointed 😞
Vinyl sounds better on a proper system. And tape remains superior to Cds and vinyl. Digital is great but something is lost.
To me, the best sounding and balanced mix in the "Red" album is "We can Work It Out"
Yes that is a fine remix!
I'm sensing you're not a fan of the remixes ;)
The omission of "Rain" is painful.
Agreed. There must be a reason for it though. Timings on the vinyl maybe?
It’d be good to know why?
Maybe it’s because it’s a good selling point for the Revolver boxset.
1 Stück rhymes with look (1 piece / 1 unit)
While Love Me Do was not really talked about, I think the omission of the tambourine was abhorrent. Yeah, I know Ringo played that instead of the drums on the Alan White version, but they could have easily included it. It would have added a breath of high end which is quite frankly needed in this mix.
I’m guessing the original Red Album didn’t have it on.
It’ll be on Past Masters though (when they get round to it).
If they added tambourine to the Ringo version that would be "Abhorrent". The purists would have something to moan about.
@@dinnerwithgreedo Why would it be on Past Masters? That's always been the Ringo version. Hopefully Andy Whites version will be on a remixed Please Please Me album.
JFK reference for the win! lol
There's only so many minutes you can press to vinyl before you lose sound quality. If anything is "out of order" who cares? The songs are great.
I think they just wanted to stay true to the original vinyls.
I subscribed. So there.
Well I'm please. So there!
I like songtrack yellow submarine version!
Yeah!! It's just.... better!
The albums sound like they were recorded on the same day.
Going by what's been written in these comments, there is only a mono source for She Loves You.
i do agree they made some poor choices selecting the new songs but overall its great
Agreed!
The thumbnail made me watch this.😂
Ha... totally worth it then.
🙄 Annoying.
Thanks for the laugh :)
You’re welcome. Pleasure to make you smile.
Hopefully he takes more care with the main albums. But let’s be honest, people still moan about them too 🙄
Sounds better with butter
Everything does!
I think the reason SLY sounds so poor, is that they lost the master tape, so a real stereo mix was never done. I believe that the boffins at Abbey road along with Peter Jackson created this mix on the red album.
I think you're right.
I Love You.
@@lionheartroar3104 I thought they were mixed by Giles Martin not AI.

It’s red.
Lot more than one.
She loves you sounds terrible indeed here. Hey Bulldog is also much better on Yellow Submarine soundtrack in my opinion. Some of the new mixes are good though!
Yeah... if the drums were centred on Hey Bulldog (on the YS Songtrack album) it would've been perfect.
I bought the cds,,its a mixed bag of good and mediocre quality.

They did the best with what they had, unfortunately it’s the placement on the album that’s a bit jarring.
One last cash grab.
Obviously not! There’ll be plenty more.
I think it’s stupid on separate … the final discs are the worst beatle compilation albums ever … never be played
But if you did that (take each disc as a separate entity) then they’ll all be bad as all the other songs wouldn’t be on the compilation. 😉
If they had ordered vinyl like cd , id have bought it in heart beat .. the 3rd lps are ridiculous .. disc 3 red album is 60 % revolver …
You've given me an idea for another video!! Thanks!!
Will give you a mention.
Best thing the beatles did was disband.
I have played them now!
And sadly, not rich at all. 😭

Well, I don't see the point in these endless remixes and remasters. Yeah, yeah, technology has improved and the beatles would have used that blablabla. Would we also repaint Picasso's Blue Period, because today he would possibly use this new modern "bright blue" then?
