Yes but just for clarification, that’s not what this is. A storm surge isn’t the same as a tsunami. Storm surges are much more of a creeping slow killer.
@@mikejohn0088 You're correct that a drawback of the coastline can be a warning sign of an incoming tsunami, but it can also occur during hurricanes and other severe storms. Here's what you should know: * A drawback occurs when the sea water recedes far beyond the normal shoreline, exposing large areas of the seafloor that are usually underwater. * During a hurricane, the strong winds and low atmospheric pressure can cause the ocean water to be drawn up into the eye of the storm, resulting in a temporary lowering of sea level. * As the hurricane approaches land, the water that was drawn up into the storm begins to surge back towards the coast, causing flooding and storm surge. * The speed and extent of the drawback can be a warning sign of the severity of the storm surge to come. * It's important to evacuate immediately if you see a significant drawback of the coastline during a hurricane, as it can be a sign of an incoming storm surge that could be dangerous or even deadly. PI
The wind does not “suck” the water out, the low pressure does. It’s like putting your finger on top of a straw and lifting it a little in a cup of water. The water in the straw will be higher than the surrounding water which will drop a little. The higher air pressure around the storm pushes down harder than the low pressure in the middle of the storm, creating a raised area of water in the middle and lower water levels on the outside. This is what causes the “sucking.” Since the storm and the low pressure are moving this raised area of water moves with it and makes landfall. The wind then gives it a push and surges it further on land.
With technology advancements why in hell are reporters still are being put in mortal danger to provide reports. I am sure that that can be done remotely.
