  • After sportswriter Mitch Albom reconnected with retired university professor Morrie Schwartz, who was dying of ALS (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's Disease), their weekly conversations became the basis of Albom's bestselling "Tuesdays with Morrie." Twenty-five years after the book's publication, "Sunday Morning" senior contributor Ted Koppel talks with Albom about how its examination of impending death turned his life inside-out.

“Tuesdays with Morrie” and “The Five People You Meet in Heaven”, are both breathtaking books, written by him. I still remember reading “The Five People”, for my Summer reading program for my 5th Grade class. Truly memorable.

The greatest line the TV show “The Gilmore Girls” is when Rory looks at a library with 13 million volumes in it and wonders how long it would take to read all those books. Her mother says, “But honey, you don’t have to read every one of them. Tuesdays with Morrie, skip that.”

Mitch Albom is such a remarkable human being. So is Ted Koppel. Watching these two men on a network television show like this sharing a screen completely puts on blast just how much media has degraded to the revolting cesspool of shameless propaganda it is today. Most of the time it goes unnoticed because they are all revolting hucksters. So there’s no contrast. But when you see two guys like this covering a story like this, it brings right to the forefront of my mind just how horrendous media is in 2022 America.

I wish we would stop calling it "Lou Gehrig's Disease," because:
    It has a proper name--ALS.
Several generations have no idea who Lou Gehrig was.
Lou Gehrig should be remembered for his exploits on the baseball field and not that he happened to be afflicted by a disease that would later bear his name.
