Finally got to watch the race - MVDP didn't have the legs to keep up, just like in Amstel Gold. As much as he's won this year, he races a lot different than he did pre-Olympics crash both on the road and in cyclocross, plus he didn't quite have the competition in Roubaix and Flanders to go up against. He doesn't seem to have the same insane top end fitness/snap as he did prior to the Olympics crash (unless everyone else just got better), although still better than almost everyone else. He narrowly edged out the sprint for third against riders he normally would've/should've destroyed in LBL. Looks like he hasn't recovered that well post Flanders/Roubaix. Pogacar is on a whole other level this year it seems, and he also wants to compete in the Giro, the Tour, World Championships and Olympics? That'll require a little.....something extra.

@@cyclinghighlightsman such great inside contents since reading up the people doing Cyclingnews forum? Btw was the top 10 doping cycling doctor video taken down for some reason?
Have to ask, was blood transfusions a big thing for the top cyclists of the 80s? Hinault used to say that what Moser did in that big 1984 season was ok, meaning blood transfusions. If so, then the top cyclists in the 80s was likely using them for special occasions. Likely it wasn’t as good as the modern EPO microdosing plus multiple blood bags, but just having the occasional transfusions would help, look at PDM in 1988
