i like your review of this bike. i hope nothing is broken on the clutch while down shifting without clutch lever. The S1000r has only a quickshifter for upshifts^^
+Anthony Murgatroyd The 2015 S1000RR has both up and down function on the quick shifter, where as the 2015 S1000R only has quick shift function on the up shift.
+Anthony Murgatroyd I have a brand new 2015 S1000R build date 7/15 and it definitely does not have auto blipper for down shift. Some people have thought the bike has it but any bike under the right conditions can be down shifted without the clutch however the down shift blipper should blip the engine revs when down shifting as on the RR. We have had quite a few people on the forum think the bike had the up and down quick shifter after they were mistakenly told by the salesman it had it before a test ride, and none of these people thought it worked that well, because it doesn't have it. I wish it did though!
just watched both vids on the r1200r, and this one. I have had my S1000r for about a year now, love it to death, ride it as often as I can. But for some reason I am drawn to the other bike, shaft drive, great mpg (S typically 38, I think the R gets closer to 55) and the more touring aspect of it. However I still like to drive aggressively and plan to start tracking more, and I think the S will just suit me better. Its a shame it wasnt broke in more, after 6k to 12 this bike is insane fun...like a rocket. Thank goodness BMW put some amazing brakes on it, they are needed and well appreciated by me. Thanks for the reviews and the ride, I wish you was a bit closer to me (florida) I would love to go riding with ya. in the mean time, If you would like to check out my ride on the Tail of the dragon I recently did, and let me know how you liked it. peace flea th-cam.com/video/39Zph7yZIZo/w-d-xo.html
+Jon Hill That road is on my bucket list. I just have to make it there first lol! Pity about the wind noise in your vid, as it would have been nice to hear more of the engine. Otherwise, it was a good POV riding vid (^_^). I wish we had a road like that even half as nice here.
Great review looked like alot of fun! Now all you need to do is ride and review a Husqvarna Nuda 900 and a Grom to complete the Royal Jordanian trifecta lol
The bulk of the 1200GS scares me to be honest lol! But one day I will ride one. However, I'm not too afraid of taller seats because on my Multi, I am on my tiptoes all day. Thanks for the feedback (^_^)o
zordflea Yes, the GS is a tad bulky. The GSA even more so. If you think a GS looks 'intimidating', go stand beside a GSA! ;) Anyways... yeah, I test rode the 2014 GS and GSA last August. Both are extremely easy to handle. Very well balanced. The 'R' engine provides a very low center of gravity. Both are awesome rides for sure!
+David Varela For me, personally, it was the riding position that would be an issue. (I'm old lol) I found it too sporty for everyday commuting. I prefer an upright sitting position. But many other people don't mind a sporty riding position everyday. You should try the bike because it's awesome!
I've read that the quick-shift is intended to operate on the down shift... however, the throttle should be closed for the DS. Open on the up, closed on the down.
I was told by the dealer that I can use the quick shifter to downshift as long as I wasn't on power. By the end of the test ride I was automatically blipping the throttle before a downshift like I would naturally on a conventional transmission, but without using the clutch lever. And it worked smoothly.

Don DeBarthez Thanks. Well, the guy at the dealership said I could, so I did :P

The one I test rode had both. I know the 2014 was up only. Maybe it was a late build and they just changed it ?

Now 6k miles on mine and love it more every ride!
+RicViperMoto Excellent!
Nice, hope you can ride a S1000XR soon and compare it to your MS. Awesome bikes.

Good review, hope you can do the BMW 1200 GS sometime. I was surprised you had no seat height issues.

+zordflea 13:20 you wouldnt recommend this bike for daily use? (50% highway and 50% street)?

are you sure quick shift work also in downshift? i read the manual it say only upshit
+donciak Correct, the RR is both upshift and down the R is up only
My friend, there has never been one female Ass on the rear this bike here in the USA...it's made for single rider antics, and full bore runs.
Have a 1000r US owners manual says quick shifter only works on upshift.
I've read that the quick-shift is intended to operate on the down shift... however, the throttle should be closed for the DS. Open on the up, closed on the down.
I just read that a BMW owner had better luck with the down shift during the roll-off, rather than the throttle fully closed...

What model year is your 1000R manual for Frank?
Why did BMW use a mechanical clutch on the S1000R?

two voices to explain the video ----- not good
+Jouko Koskinen Eh?
Doing a review without reving, useless. Bike comes alive up high as all inline fours.
The bike had its revs capped at 7000rpm by the dealership as it wasn't anywhere near broken in. Sorry you didn't like it.
