      I love this line so much because it's really believed that a lot of mental health issues can be caused by being disconnected or even never connected with a community. A lot of research around addiction specifically shows that how connected you are to people around you can have a huge effect on your relationships with substances. I'm just so grateful to this show and how much research the team did to accurately portray mental health issues from an accurate, but symbolic standpoint.

      Sad thing is that this is extremely realistic...
      I have an Uncle who live in North Carolina (most of my family lives in Pennsylvania and or New Jersey) he practically never leaves to visit us. His father (my dad’s dad) died of a sleeping pill overdose when my dad was 5 and my uncle was 18 or 19. We don’t know whether my grandfather intentionally overdosed or if he was just trying to get some sleep (he was a veteran of ww2 and had mental problems from the war) but whatever it was my uncle blamed my grandmother and never forgave her. He didn’t even show up to her funeral, in doing so he drove a wedge between him and his sister (my aunt) and later he drove a wedge between him and my father (he had been taking advantage of my father for a long time but my dad loved him and let him get away with it, I mean it was his older brother by 12 year what do you expect?). He “made up” with my father a few years ago but he STILL couldn’t bring himself to visit my father, his little brother when he was dying in the hospital in 2019... I personally won’t forgive him for that... But even more so he’s been missing the grandkids and great grandkids that he has up here... He’s totally isolated... If he were to come back we would, given time, forgive him, and I know from talking with him on the phone that he’s not doing well even if he says he is, but as much as I want to help him... There’s nothing I can do if he won’t help himself... It’s tragic but that’s life, one big tragedy, with a bit of comedy mixed in...

    finally a highlight episode for Ikki, it was a long time since she was kind outshined, Toph remembering once again that all the villains that Korra faced had noble goals and that they brought good things to the world, by the way Korra taking out the poison it's a very emotional scene, if not even Suyin managed to get poison from another person, Korra (a beginner metalbender) was able to do this on herself with much smaller particles of earth inside the mercury, outside of combat she is probably the second best metalbender in the world!

    In the end, Toph helping Korra to metlabend the poison out of herself is what helped Korra grow even more. Because as Toph said, Korra needed to face her adversity head on and let go of those past fights if she wanted to heal. I love that everyone gave Korra space, but what she actually needed was to FEEL needed. The way everyone pulled away, made her feel useless and broken. But BOTH the knowledge that they were looking for her, that she's still wanted,and the knowledge that the world actually needs her made her feel more like herself again. She's still hurt but feeling wanted and needed gave her strength to take the first step. I think there's also something to be said about how we give people space but we don't ask them what they need. And in a way we do it for our own sake too. Because it's easier. But sometimes what people need is to know we still need them.

    I love how well written Toph is here. This is exactly what an older, wiser Toph would be like- still cranky, still a bit of a brat, still has that sass, but backed up by years of experience and enlightenment. She’s basically Toph crossed with Yoda crossed with Mickey from the Rocky movies. She does the tough love thing, the trickster mentor thing, but then follows it up with some sage advice that’s exactly what Korra needed to hear. These Toph episodes are among my favorites this season.

I can't believe that Kenny didn't see the Star Wars reference with Korra training in the Swamp with Toph as a parallel to Luke training in the swamps of Dagobah with Yoda. Luke needed to create a stronger connection with the force the same way that Korra had to repair her connection with her Avatar spirit.

    I think while the other antagonists have come close to taking away her powers, Zaheer was the one who was the one who was closest to actually killing her. So, when Toph talks about how the problem with all the villains in Korra is that they were out of balance, I'm like, "Yes." They all have a point. Amon was right about non-benders needing more respect. Unalaq wasn't totally wrong about there being value in the spirits and humans being closer (though, side note, I think season 2 is considered the weakest season of Korra in part because Unalaq becomes a pretty simple villain when his good point about humans and spirits being closer fades completely into the background and he literally fuses with the devil). Kuvira and Zaheer are especially interesting juxtaposed with one another because they each make the other's point. Zaheer is right about terrible leaders like the Earth Queen abusing her people, and a more free and open society would be good. Kuvira is all about law and order, and the bandits and chaos and fires following Zaheer show us the good side of law and order. And, in fact, Kuvira does bring some of the good side of law and order with her, towns she takes over stop having bandit problems, food gets to the people, things like that. They each just take it way too far, so freedom becomes chaos and order becomes a dictatorship.

    • @bkjeong4302
      @bkjeong4302 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Re: order vs. freedom, note that those two villains literally helped Korra fight the other. (see "Terror Within" and "Enter the Void" last season, and (SPOILERS) "Beyond the Wilds" this season)
      I now wish someone temporarily imprisoned those two together to debate philosophy (while restrained, because otherwise they'd just try to murder each other).

    I absolutely love how the music that played at 23:35 when Korra bent the metal out of her body is the same music from when Aang energybent Ozai's firebending out of him. Really shows that she's done here was just THAT monumental.
    I first watched Korra when it first aired 7 years ago and tbh did not find the story really that compelling, but I guess a lot have been happening to me since then and now I find Korra's story way more relatable and therapeutic to me than ever, in fact even than ATLA, which was something I did not think even possible. I found it interesting that we revisit so many places from ATLA but the only time we see the fire nation in the legend of Korra Series is Zuko at Ming-Hua's prison and Bhanti island (witch is the island Korra washes up on with amnesia where we learn the story of Wan and Raava), we see no other part of the fire nation and than I realized- for 100 years people of the fire nation were taught they were superior to the rest of the world and they taught their children the same lessons and I'm sure there are alot of them that never succumbed to the the hate and never fell for Sozin's propaganda but I'm sure their are many who aposed Zuko as Fire lord for stopping the war and people who still feel superior to the rest of the nations (because as we have seen new leaders supported by a majority does not prevent opposition) are around today and the writers knew that there is no way that they would be able to show larger parts of the fire nation without addressing lasting prejudice amongst it's people.
