Hi - it’s Big Rodders in Ireland. I detest the latest trend for matte finishes, particularly dreary black, grey and other insipid colours. I own a matte red Honda SH350i and was told not to put anything on the surface and to ensure I cleaned off dirt asap, particularly bird poo or tree sap. Conventional car wash liquids have some element of polish in them but I use an Auto Glym wash specifically for matte finishes. Matte requires much more care than gloss and cannot be as readily repaired. I can see me deferring purchase of the GB350 until an uplifting gloss colour is available.
Yeh I looked at an RE Hunter that was in a blue matte finish and wasn't keen when the dealer tried to talk me into it. I love the GB350 so much though I couldn't resist buying it. The dealer warned me not to use normal wax etc. Will have to find a solution soon and will share what I come up with here.
Big Rodders again - I’m in frequent contact with Willie. I tried to get him enthused about a Monkey for buzzing around his Suffolk roads but he thought it would be too small for him, even though I’m the same height at 6’4”.
@@rodneysweetnam8653 Willie being Willie he will probably change his mind in time. Particularly if you send him a photo of you on the bike and tell him it won't take up much room in the garage or the new bike shed addition he's talking about. :>)
When I eventually pull the trigger on a GB, I'll be getting the matte parts straight to a local spraypainter to get some 2K clear coat on. Matte is a little more hardy to things that would create tiny scratches or "swirl marks" in traditional gloss. However if you get any decent scratches, you are stuffed. With gloss, you can compound/wet sand or polish a tiny bit of the clear away and have it looking brand new. No option to do so with matte. Hope this helps in some way
Thanks that's great advice. I was thinking a clear coat might be the answer but wasn't sure what they recommend for a matte paint finish. Will check 2K out. Thank you that's a big help. :>)
Given the GB is really a CB350 which is utilitarian transport in India. They love to farkle things up but keeping things in mint condition is not a priority. I too have noticed my GB scuffing up super easy and I think it will be frustrating to stop. I am just going to embrace the patina and let the bike age naturally.

Did you hear Two Wheeled Willie talking about you in his last video?

Might have to do the same if I can't find a suitable coating to protect it.
Sorry don't know, but keen to hear the answer you eventually arrive at and if it works
Thanks. Anthony will post another video when I do.
Following, I don’t know the answer to that, but considering buying a bike with matte paint
Thanks Robert. There seem to be more bikes now with Matte finish. I will post another video about what worked for me when I find an answer.
