Real buzz for Honda Hornet CB1000
No price has been announced yet but the new Honda CB1000 Hornet is about to be released in Australia and there is a real buzz of excitement about this new bike as reviewers in Europe sing its praises. It appears the new Hornet 1000 is swarming into the global market with a real sting in its tail, The road performance and what you get for the price are already big talking points and I have yet to see a negative review. I take the Honda CMX1100 Rebel out for a ride to discuss the recent strategy employed by Honda for the release of bikes lsuch as the Rebel 1100, 750 Hornet, TransAlp and GB350. Coming in at really competitive prices is definitely disrupting the market and putting Honda at the forefront of peoples' minds. And it appears to be working. But what will the price in Australia be and will it be as affortable as it is in Europe? Or can they command a higher price because of the overwhelming interest. Time will tell. But one thing is certain. Honda has delivered another great and excitng motorcycle.

After two months of ownership I take the Honda GB350 out to discuss for a short review to discuss the five things I love about the retro looking roadster modern classic motorbike and the five things I don't. Finding 5 loves was easy but finding 5 parts of the motorcycle I don't like was very difficult. It is such a great bike. #motorbike #motorbikes #motorcycles #motorcycling #motorcycle #review

How good is the Honda GB350 turning circle

Ride aroud like that for much longer and your'e gonna kill yourself!
From a manufacturing and profit ratio perspective, a Single 500cc is most likely as the existing frame and base engine block does not need to be redesigned and therefore additional plant space and machinery investment is not needed. A deep 500 baritone thumper will be lovely and make carting a passage easier as well as add some confidence on free way riding..
I live in hope that's what they do :>)
Saw this bike in the raw three days ago. Disappointed with the quality of the chassis weldings and ergonomics considering my hight (1,71 m) and tastes. However, a nice and economical machine if you are above 1,80 m and prefer being bent while driving.
I notice other TH-camrs in Europe have commented about the welding on the S model. Haven't noticed any bad welds on my R model in Australia.
@motorcyclingdownunder Interesting. Overall quality is ok, but the welding thing is a subject Honda must check.
@@josevi5835 Yes definitely. Very unusual for Honda to not do the welding well. :>)
@motorcyclingdownunder Yes. The first edition of the Rebel 500 had the same problem and I decided not to buy it because of that.
My 1973 CB350, albeit a twin, puts out 36 HP out of the box, is stone reliable, gets 50+ miles to our US Gallon, and when I get stupid, I can push the Honda to 100 mph. Can this 2025 CB350 compete with my 50+ year old in any way, perhaps with its fuel- injected engine and ABS? With 2025 model's measly 21 horses, my old trusty, with an actual displacement of only 325cc, will leave it in the dust. Forgive me, but I cannot call that progress.
Yes your 73 model CB350 will have a lot more pull and be capable of higher speeds. The charm of this bike is the low revving. old school, long stroke, air cooled engine that apart from the RE 350 J Series motors have all but disappeared. I think Honda made it because the RE 350s are so popular.
Clearly, the design briefs for both bikes were very different and so are the markets for which they were and are intended. This machine is not an evolution of your '73 CB 350 or my old 78 CB 250. The only thing that it really has in common is its name. Honda could have made this bike a liquid cooled six cylinder DOHC 350 with 80 bhp, carbon fibre everything, USD forks, linked rear suspension and so on, if they wanted to. And they could have called that a CB350. All the "progress" that you could possibly want, but for what price and what market? This bike is intended to be a cheap, fuel efficient, reliable and easy to ride machine aimed squarely at the Indian market firstly, and at those in the West who are looking for a cost effective motorcycle with a bit of charm and character. Judging by reviews, Honda have done that exceedingly well.
It’s a great bike I think, still haven’t seen them in Sweden, but definitely going to check them out 😊
They seem to have started arriving in UK dealers along with the new Hornet 1000 so shouldn't be long until you can check them out in Sweden.
Stock engine oil doesnt sound as refined as some of bes tpils availabel in market. 7100 10w30 is best , it alos runs smoother with 10 w40 grade fully synthetic oils
Thank you. That's great to know. The first oil change will be done at the dealer but then I'll change it every 1500kms after that. :>)
Can see why it would be hard to come up with many dislikes for this bike.
As long as you don't expect it to be powerful or quick it ticks just about every box.
I love how stoked you are on the GB350! I hope to have my first Dualsport motovlog episode up on YT with my WR250R soon. Hopefully cross paths out on the trails on your DR some time. Thanks for the inspiration. 👊🏻
Fantastic. I look forward to seeing it. Please let me know when you post it. Must post another DR video soon myself. Am thinking about buying a KLX230 dual sport for Riding Hood to learn to ride dirt on later this year so she can come on some of those adventures with me. Either that or the Suzuki VStrom 250SX. They need to be light and lower than the DR, DRZ, WR or CRLs. :>)
I've been riding the Honda GB350 / CB350RS for the past two years, and it has never broken down. In my opinion, it has a better engine than Royal Enfields and offers a quick, smooth ride. The exhaust note is delightful, the tank range is good, and the cruising speed is decent. However, the downsides are the headlight, which isn't very effective, and the suspension, which could have been better. Additionally, the front and rear mudguards aren't great the mud splashes all over the place. They could have been designed more effectively.
Thanks. That's great feedback to hear from someone with so much experience with the bike. Honda certainly know how to make reliable motorcycles. Don't have any experience with night or mud riding yet so that is very useful information. Thank you. :>)
Great video and great bike. I agree to make it perfect it should’ve gotten twin analog clocks, when I first got mine I accidentally hit the rev limiter. Today I rode mine to work in Sydney at the airport and back and it really loves the 60-80 roads more than the 100 roads due to the gearing. A good channel on TH-cam is ride with warro. Heaps of GB350 content from country NSW, he was putting stuff out when no one else was about a year ago, he installed a 13 tooth front sprocket to shorten his gears. I didn’t as I like the legs down low
Thank you. That's great to hear about yours being so good to commute on in the city. A couple of people have mentioned that other channel you mentioned so I will check it out and leave a like and subscribe because its great to support channels.:>)
@ nice one ) he also lists what he likes and what he doesn’t in some videos
@@coreys8070 Cool. Checking him out now. :>)
I traded down from a 2018 Goldwing DCT so I don't care what it looked like; a high screen was a must. I do 100-200km country runs including some freeway work and the bike is just not powerful enough to punch into a head wind. The screen fixes this completely plus makes longer rides far more pleasant. With the screen the gearbox works fine. I only use 5th if cruising under 100kmh. Over that the bike stays in 4th and pulls happily up to 120kmh. I wouldn't be messing with the sprockets; a) coz it is not needed if you only use 5th as a low speed overdrive, and b) you could void your warranty. The bike looks OK with a tall screen as the bike is fairly long so it doesn't mess up the proportions too much.
Thanks Darron. Great to hear the screen is so effective. If we do end up riding this bike on faster roads it is definitely something we will need to look into. As much as I love the naked look I know I need to be realistic. :>)
Handlebars are too narrow in width or grips in diameter? If the latter, trip machine have some wraps that, the prevailing wisdom states, are pretty cheap and last the distance.
Width is fine it's just the grips are a little small for my hands. Looking at getting some brown wraps or grip puppies to match the seat. :>)
Great bike 👍
Yes it is. I've never done a 5 likes, five hates video before and this was hard because there is nothing I don't like about this great bike. Doesn't matter what your skill level is it is fun to ride. Definitely not just for beginners. :>)
@ ….gonna buy one in spring…😉
@@schrimpfThat's fantastic. Bet you can't wait. :>)
@ 🥹
Riding With Warro put a 13 tooth front sprocket on his. I think it is the Honda 600 xr sprocke t. Says it much improves it. Other s say a tall screen helps with higher speeds.
Thanks David. I've had a few people say a screen really helps but I'm reluctant to change the naked retro look of this bike. Maybe the front sprocket is the answer. I'll see what Riding Hood thinks when she gets more confident on the bike. If she's only going to putter around I'll leave it as it is. But if she's eager to include faster roads in her riding I will definitely look at those two options. :>)
I want a single thumper.
You won't regret it. They are so full of character and charm. :>)
I am very tempted to buy One. The ONLY Problem in Germany the recommended Speed on the Autobahn is 130 km/hr ! 135 km/ hr is the Maximum Speed I think of the bike .i hope HONDA comeS out with a 450 cc OR Lager 650 cc bike Like the RE ! 650 cc which would be Perfect for Germany. This is the ONLY small bike that Sells is 125cc as you can Ride it with a car licence & can Ride it with 16 yrs. Next Stepup is close to 48 ps / Hp that Sells.
It definitely would struggle to achieve and keep those speeds. If Honda releases the rumoured GB500 that might be the answer for you. Particularly if its a single thumper and you get all the charm and character with some additional power and performance. The hot rumour is that bike could be released this year. Hope its a single though and not the 471cc twin. :>)
It’s a great community, been following TAYM for quite a while now and just love his style and sense of humor 👍 Have subscribed to riding hood too and we will support her all the way through 😊👍
Thanks Robert. And thanks for subscribing to Riding Hood's channel. She mentioned you had and was quite excited about having a new subscriber when she has only posted one video in the last two years. Well said! It’s a great community. 👍🏻
And it seems to be getting greater every day. :>)
Try out Webike Japan. You'll find a lot of accessories for this bike and they ship internationally. I'm sure you'll be spending a lot since they got so many accessories.
If it doesn't have a 6th gear and external oilcooler then they are screwed because we already have Harley Davidson 440x ,Hero Maverick 440 and the recently launched RE Scram 440 (Rebored 411cc Himalayan engine with a 6th gear) in India(All of these get 6th gear and oilcooler). See Honda know that's the only engine which might fit in the existing chassis of Highness CB350 (GB350) . A twin would be uncharacteristically stupid move from them. Honda has already messed up while boring out their small capacity engines in India with the Unicorn 160cc engine rebored to 184cc without external oil cooler or 6th gear in Honda Hornet 2.0 in 2020. That bike is a sports commuter which dented Honda's reputation in india as it had problems of oil leaking and overheating , faulty ECU and gaskets etc. Honda solved the issues till 2022 but the damage was done to its reputation in india. So Honda definitely won't do the same mistake again. The Big modern old school long stroke single it is then i guess.
Thank you for the wonderful insight and input from your experience in the massive Indian motorcycle market. I think if it wasn't for India and Honda's eagerness to compete with the likes of Royal Enfield we wouldn't have the GB350.
I love this bike, I have one a 2020 Heritage in black but mine has the dual gas caps, yes one is a dummy but for ascetic it should have two, I don't understand this change. Looks neutered
Yes I have to admit the dual caps gave the fuel tank a real balanced look. :>)
I find the 6th gear is quite an over drive, wouldnt want an even longer geared one. 😊
That's interesting. Mine feels like it could use a higher gear at 110 to 130kmh. Very happy with all the other gears. :>)

the only twin this bike needs is a twin-dial instrument cluster.

I wish it had twin clocks/dials too. :>)

You sound like someone who knows exactl;y what they want. Enjoy this great bike. :>)
Yes I spent 12 months deciding on this one. But sometimes I do impulse buy and the last time was a big surprise. I bought a bike I didn't think I wanted but they gave me $4000 off the new price because the person who ordered it no longer wanted it. Turned out to be a brilliant bike that was better than all my expectations. So I've discovered its good to do both. Research to get what you want and impulse for the occasional surprise. :>)

@ plenty of vids for you to see on TH-cam mainly from India. They are the classic bullet style and suit the bike. They come with a baffle which is removed on mine. I love it but it’s definitely louder and more raw if you want that. My fuelling seems fine also, if anything a bit more rich so some nice crackle and pops. Just got back from two hours on the gb , such a nice bike honestly
@@coreys8070 Thank you. The CB350 H'ness has been available for a number of years in India so they have probably built up a pretty good after-market for the bike there now. :>)
I’d consider a Honda bikini fairing, bar end mirrors and going the black/gold paint scheme…remember the old John Player Special livery? Maybe a little bit brighter gold colour paint for the rims rather than rim tape. If funds permit, maybe a combined rear rack and pillion grab rail?
Thanks. My CB250N from back in the day had a red bikini fairing to match the paintwork. And yes I remember the JPS livery. Looked great. And gold. I hadn't thought about that. :>)
Agree that the chrome exhaust looks great. Handgrips would be good but the wheel trim is too fussy. The tall screen I have doesn't look too bad as the bike is fairly long and low. I makes a huge difference now as the bike will easily cruise at 100kmh in any wind uphill. Makes the bike more of an allrounder rather than feeling hard pushed much over 80kmh. I reckon the gators would look pretty cool.
What make of screen is that please?
Thanks. If we end up riding the bike over 80 more we would will look at a screen seeing it makes higher speed cruising easier. Crash bars will be first and then the gators and hand grips. Get what you mean about the wheel trim. Will think about that a lot more before doing anything. :>)
Wonder if its possible to fit the crome exhaust on the S model. I realy think it looks a lot better then the black one on the S model.
Looks exactly the same size so might be worth asking your Honda dealer if they can order one in. :>)
I’ve enquired about the chrome exhaust 380 gbp
@ Good luck. Hope its possible for you. It looks great in chrome.
@@timboharty7325 Please let me know how you get on. :>)
@@motorcyclingdownunder will do , I’ve ordered some parts from India
beside it's powerless and manufactured quality, then yes it's a decent bike for sure . btw the one I owned is h'ness ver out of india
The H'ness in India has the letters CB in front of the 350 doesn't it ... different to the GB for the S, R, RS, and C models. Wonder how well they've sold in India. :>)
New sub here, got me a 22 model HD heritage classic absolutely love it, all black. Mate how many km you get to the tank? I got to 330km, fuel light on, but it kept going up and down eg 40 km, left then saying 20 km left, so I said to myself rather than risking it
WOW that's good. I haven't really put mine to the test. I just top it up every time I take it out but do need to see how far I can get it soon. Will let you know when I have to see how the two compare. Looks like the 25 model comes with the 117 but I love the 114 as it is. :>)
If the 350 can be bored out it will definitely be a single cylinder. What really matters is the horse power and torque. After a 20 horsepower 350 CB I don't have much faith for the 500. 😮
I think if they can get to 33-35 horsepower and plenty of low down talk it would be okay as a leisure machine. :>)
Most Japanese bike makers like to harken back to the original models. I think they’re going to use a bored out version of the 350 single. The GB500 name has already been registered here in the US. I wouldn’t be surprised if it has the 33 HP figure the original GB had. I don’t think it’ll be the twin from the CB500 as I don’t think it’ll fit in the GB’s frame. Boring out the engine makes more sense as they can use all of the relevant tooling/parts from the GB350 and just put the R and D into the engine. Saves some coin and puts the development costs into making the 500cc motor compliant for North America. I’m getting old and want one last bike to own until I can’t ride any more. I’m looking at the new GB500 if it comes to fruition or a used z650rs. Two different bikes, I know, but for the riding comfort, aesthetics, and reliability I don’t think they can be beat.
I agree that would be the best scenario and that's certainly what I'm hoping for. :>)
I’m in there with you, bikes with that low end mid range pull are just so relaxing to ride, my T100 is also a nice example for it. The GB is a real gem in my opinion 😊👍 Btw, the first reviews about the GB are dropping in…. very good acceptance of the bike, quite positive 👌
I was only thinking last night a T100 would be a nice bike to compliment these two. Would fit nicely right in the middle between these two bikes in terms of capacity and power. The other option I would consider is the Speedmaster. :>)
@ I test rode the Bobber and it’s a great engine, same as the Speedmaster, but personally I do prefer the 900 engine, it seems just right in the sweet spot 😊
@@robertboomsema4422 I've heard a few people say the 900 is the better engine. The Bobber looks awesome but I don't imagine it would be as comfortable as the Speedmaster. :>)
@ well, I was quite surprised by how comfortable the bobber was actually, and looks wise it’s one of the coolest bikes around in my opinion. The handling was pretty easy going too. But the best Triumph I have ridden is actually the Speed twin 900, so relaxing and comfortable and very easy going.
@@robertboomsema4422 I think I need to test ride a Bobber. Also like the Speed Twin. So was interested to read what you said about that. :>)
I just bought a new Kawasaki zx4rr and was going to plan to sell my gb350… but I really don’t want to. Thoughts? Should I keep both or move on??
I would keep both if it were me and I had the means to do so. Each bike scratches a particular itch. Totally different but equally as rewarding. :>)
I have a GB350S and it’s all I need. Even to commute to work, and it’s 45min on a highway. Would it be better with more speed, maybe. If Honda releases a GB500, then maybe I upgrade. The point of the bike to me is for weekend therapy.
Definitely a brilliant bike for weekend therapy. :>)
I’m thinking of getting this as my first bike. I’m 24 and I’ve thought about getting a CL500 but the GB seems to be calling out my name
CL500 has more performance and power but the GB350 has more charm and character. Comes down to what you like and want. If you like retro styling the GB definitely has that in spades. :>)
Thats a lot of speculation likely same engine as rebel 500 etc...and other models with that same engine
I'd say that's a pretty fair bet but it would be nice to have something different like the Classic 500 that was discontinued a few years ago. Nothing else like that on the new bike market right now. :>)
I like the design of this bike ❤ , it resembles the old Honda CB350 from 1970s . But I also wish this Honda had power in 5th gear because they particularly kept it tall to make it refined at higher revs but it comes at the cost of pulling power or acceleration in 5th gear which is a bummer on highways below 80kmph . The gearing is so tall that you can ride at 60kmph in 3rd gear on highways also 😅. I wish Honda made a modern long stroke engine with external oil cooler with 6speed gearbox on this 350. It could have been better than copying RE J series 350cc bikes like Classic and Bullet 350 long stroke character. Plus its expensive here in india with it being sold in Honda Bigwing dealerships only in india. Believe me they do have a vast sales+service network but shot themselves in the foot . They were the only guys who realistically had a chance of beating RE in india which is RE's kingdom now . RE is the Harley Davidson for indians 😂 but they are innovative unlike the Crude old-school arrogant HD. Anyway i hope you can ride the Hunter 350 in your country soon if its released there . I would love to see your review of it.
I agree with all your observations. I briefly test rode a Hunter 350 last year but not long enough to get to know it or do a review. Still thinking about adding a J series engined bike to the garage because such long stroke engines disappear again. It will be a toss up between the Hunter, Bullet or Classic 350. :>)
@motorcyclingdownunder If you are a tall guy then you must not have been comfortable with Hunter 350 which is understandable but the Hunter is the quickest of the 350 line-up and the most chuckable in corners as well. I would suggest that bike or the Bullet 350 also since its more comfortable than Classic 350 and looks better also. But to me the Hunter 350 is the best of the J Series lot. Its so good that I wish it had more power and torque to it because you can feel that the bike could go even more faster than it goes right now.
@@aashutoshbhagat2677 Yes the Hunter certainly has a lot going for it. Its light, sounds brilliant, handles really well etc etc etc
Well....a twin with a modern (water cooled) approach Is to hope! A multi purpose platform possibly, good for a Road Classic and both for a scrambler
I still like the character of the old style, long stroke air cooled single though. Very few available like that these days. :>)
Yep. Ordered a grey gb350s in Europe. Not interested in a 500cc version. Already have a Morini xcape 650 and 1250 RT. No need to cannibalise my other bikes with a similar large displacemement. A smaller retro classic is most welcome to my stable.😎
Nice selection and great variety. :>)
Thank you so much for these wonderful impressions from Downunder and this nice bike. I have a question: My first bike and my only Honda was a 1977 CB 125T. I loved this nice little bike, but had never a Honda again. Because I’m sick with my right knee, I can’t bend it far over 90 degrees. So I had to finish my long friendship with my BMW R1100R. Please tell me your experience with the GB‘s knee angle. Is it quite comfortable. Thanks for your answer! Your buddy Peter from the beautiful Southern Germany.
Yes very comfortable and pretty much straight down below your knee. Only issue with that is the footpegs get in the way when you put both fee down. :>)
That convoy of cars behind you at the beginning of the video :-D
Yep definitely a bike not to go fast one. :>)
If I was a betting man I'd favour the 471cc twin being pressed into another variant - exactly as RE are doing with their 650cc twin - witness the latest RE 650 'Classic'. The reviews are good for the 650 Classic but I'm not entirely sure that's what the market wants. Honda might be well advised to hold fire to see how that machine goes. Might be that a 500cc single is what the market really wants? Cheers.
Yeh I think you are right. That's a pretty fair bet. :>)
I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but damn you Honda for not bringing this gem of a little bike to Canada. I'm bitter.
There are rumors of a big brother GB500 in the works. Possibly an answer to the BSA 650s. Wait and see. 😎
@@kristophertrout7328 As spring approaches in another 6 weeks, I think a lot of new models may appear. I've heard the Royal Enfield Classic 650 may come to Canada. I like the CL500 from Honda, but not the looks. A CB500 would really tempt me. Either way, I'll find something. So excited to get back into riding after 30 years away from it.
The good news is I hear you are getting the big new Hornet while the USA isn't. I don't understand why Honda don't introduce everything Europe gets in both markets though. :>)
