Honda GB350 - Even better with more metal than I thought
Correcting my mistake about the Honda GB350 after I discover the front and rear mudguards and side panels are all metal. So the motorcycle is even better value than I first thought. I already believed this retro small capacity roadster was brilliant. Now even more so. Thank you for the viewer who kindly pointed out my error in the first impressions video. I am no expert but I'll endeavour to be more careful in the future.

A minute long bonus Honda GB350 video of engine noise only from this wonderful long stroke four cyclinder motorcycle being released in Europe for Spring 2025. My next video will be a comprehensive review that will include correcting a few assumptions I initially made that were wrong. Such as the mudguards and side panels looking plastic when on checking they are indeed metal.

I made a MISTAKE with my initial impressions from the first ride on the new Honda GB350 built in Japan but based on a motorcycle called the Honda H'ness CB350 the company initially designed to compete with Royal Enfield in India before introducing GB variants in its home market and Asia. I thought the mudguards and side panels looked plastic in the showroom but I have been corrected and they ar...

You are almost right....The front mudguard is metal but the rear is plastic. Picked up a GB350 a week ago after selling my 2018 Goldwing a month ago. Great little bike. I would say that a combination of wind resistance and hills are a challenge. I got an old VStream tall screen from a Kawasaki Versys I had and rigged it up. The difference is obvious, it will hold 110kmh into a roaring gale in 4th gear. On the freeway with less wind it will hold 120 in 5th gear. Sure the screen might look a bit dorky but the useability of the puny 350 is greatly enhanced when it is not trying to push an upright rider into the wind at speed. Even at lower speed, say 60-80, the lack of wind is nice and I comfortably ride with the visor up. I suppose this is my Wing bias showing through.....
Wow a Goldwing to a GB350 - that's quite a change but sounds like you are enjoying the new light bike. Thanks for the feedback and info on the effectiveness of your screen. :>)
What's your height bro????
Just over 180cms
Good bike, it’s ok on torque, doesn’t like to be revved out, likes short shifting and low revs. 2nd and third are nice and broad
Exactly. Sounds like you own one. :>)
@ a little over 8 months and love it
@@coreys8070 great to hear the enjoyment of this bike doesn't wear off with time. :>)
@@motorcyclingdownunder no it doesn’t. I get my full license in 4 months and don’t even think I’ll bother upgrading for a while
@@coreys8070 That's great to hear. Our excitement definitely hasn't waned and don't think it ever will.
Am I from the 1950s? Your voice is like Mid-Atlantic.
... lol ... someone mentioned after one of my videos I sounded like Clive Robertson. :>) Thanks for your comment.
Here in India its called Honda hness cb350. Its cheaper than RE Classic 350s . I own this fantastic machine. It has one of the best Exhaust note ,interesting thing is when you want to hear tha sound ,rev it up and enjoy. Otherwise it remains silent not disturb my neighbors 😅
Yes that exhaust is definitely the best of both worlds. I you don't want to be noticed you keep the revs down but as soon as you rev it in any way magic happens and it turns heads where ever you go. India was the first to get this great bike and I think bike riders in every other nation were envious in recent years. Great to see it is now being rolled out in Europe as well as Asia.
I guess we can all hope that this is better than the original, asthmatic , poor handling , non function braking, under powered , chrome plated tin examples .
I loved mine, but soon as drove it off the show room floor, it depreciated %65 I'll never buy a new one again
I think they've dropped more than usual in recent years because of the current economic climate. I'm still glad I bought a new one because I'm never planning to sell mine. :>)
I almost bought this bike but RE dealer offered a new 411 Himalayan 1200 cheaper for me. Still a bike I would enjoy.
I noticed yesterday RE have dropped the price of a couple of their 350s in Australia which means the Classic and Bullet are very similar to this. As the market becomes more competitive we might see more of this which means it is definitely a good time to buy. :>)
Here in UK & Europe we are anticipating the arrival of the new ( to us ) Honda GB350S early next year 2025
Yes I think it will do well there. The UK has many roads that would be perfect for this bike. According to my rego the bike in Australia is the GB350R. I think the S has different side panels and exhaust but sounds exactly the same. I think the S model is one of the current variants in Japan. :>)
As far as I can tell, the mirror backs, taillight chrome and throttle body covers are also metal 🙂
Yes I think they might be but not 100 per cent about that. Also those mirror backs are really cool. :>)
Beautiful bike. I like the practical features too - grab rail, helmet lock, centre stand. Don’t often see these on new bikes as standard. I’ve put 9000kms on mine and love it more each day. Looking forward to your full review.
Thank you for your comment. WOW 9000kms on a bike that has only been in Australia one year. You must love riding it. Being a Honda you could probably have done 90,000 without a single issue. And yes the grab rail, centre stand and helmet lock are great to have included. Will definitely be commenting about that in the full review. :>)
I really like that modern-retro look that seems to be gaining traction lately
Yeh and the great news is there is likely to be more coming including a retro styled GB500 from Honda. :>)
Its a lovely bike. In India, it is named as CB350. I own one myself and riding it since last 4 years and got no issues at all till date. Very easy to handle bike and sounds great!
That's fantastic to hear. Thank you. Hope you have many more years of happy trouble-free riding on this brilliant bike. Is the Honda H'ness CB250 assembled in India or totally built there. The GB350 available in Australia comes from Japan.
I will have to agree, the bike is relaxing to ride. Also the gearbox is probably the best I've used.
Yeh that gear box is as smooth as butter. Thank you for your comment. :>)
Why don't you learn about your CB350 before making videos about it? You are just guessing and waffling.
Fair point. I recorded them on the first day of ownership and made some mistakes.
If have a red rooster exhaust on mine. Nice and deep
Crap bike,
“Don’t mince your words “ 😂
@@lesterthorpe4190 Nope, had india trash before, learned my lesson.
@EvilBard666 it's not indian
Great video, unfortunately the GB 350 isn't available in North America.. Looks like a great little mc. Merry Christmas and stay upright
Thanks Ron. Seeing they are being introduced in Europe I would be very surprised if they don't introduce it in North America. You have a wonderful Christmas too. :>)
Awesome! 😎 👍
This was just recorded on a budget phone I will set some cameras with good quality mics up soon to record some better sound from this awesome little low powered by soulful bike. :>)
I had a 1976 Honda XL350 single and the bike was capable of cruising in the 70 mph (112 kph). So I really have to ask can the GB350 maintain a speed like that on the highways?
Not if you encounter any reasonable inclines or head winds. Unfortunately emission restriction controls in 2024 mean bikes with the same capacity engines are more choked up than motorcycles of the 70s. But I am sure there would be ways to derestrict the motor if you're resourceful and not too concerned about the warranty.
A better deal than ANY E motorcycle
And so full of character and charm from the sound and feel of that long-stroke, air-cooled engine. I have nothing against them but E Motorcycles can never hope to replicate that.
Class . . .
For a standard exhaust that long stroke air cooled motor has an amazing note. :>)
Good narration, and most informative revue. Thankyou for sharing.
Thanks Kevin. Unfortunately I made a mistake by recording these videos on the first day of ownership. I looked at the mudguards and side panels and assumed they were plastic when they are indeed metal. I am happy to be wrong though because it makes this great bike even more impressive at this price-point. I will be more careful and thorough in the full review I am recording this week after a week of ownership. :>)
Bought 2 of them a year ago. Suit us perfectly for 80km/h country backroads. Has pride of place in garage. Reliable too.
... lol ... I love riding the one I bought for Riding Hood to learn on so much I'm thinking about going back and making an offer on the second one at the dealer they made a demo. That way we could have a matching pair (one black and one white). I can definitely see the appeal of having two. :>)
@@motorcyclingdownunder Black and blue for us. Thought I might want more power. Many good memories of Honda 4, from 50 years ago. But, I'm old now... By choosing scenic backroad routes, and enjoying the views, we don't feel desire to race. Yet, will study GB500, if it arrives before I go.
@@robcoles6288 I can relate to that. I last rode fast in my 20s. Now I find rides that take in the scenery and settings I find myself in are for more enjoyable in my book. :>)
I’ve had mine 8 months. Great bike
It definitely is. I already love this one.
Nice bike but heavy for the engine size. I like it, though.
Yeh statistically it looks a little heavy on paper compared to say the Speed 400 but I can't say I have felt it while riding.
the GB350s is due in UK early 2025, just ordered one in Metallic Black. How slow can you ride it in each gear?
Congratulations. I haven't tested how slow you can ride it in each gear yet but will do that for the full review. The good news is the mudguards and side panels look plastic because of the way they are painted but I have been corrected and it seems they are actually metal. I'm very happy to be wrong on this point.
Great for crusing but I would install wind shield. Wind buffeting in Australia is tiring for all day ride.
I'm sure there will be some great after market options foir a wind shield particularly when this bike becomes available in more markets.
@@motorcyclingdownunder aready possible to buy original wind shield from Honda!
@@mikhailtertychnyi7976 The one I saw looked pretty small. :>)
Just listened to some more of your videos and you are completely wrong about the front and rear mudguards and side panels being plastic? They are definitely steel, I have this motorcycle so I know this and also what you said about the switches isn't right either I've owned many Honda's and other Japanese bikes and there the same quality and robustness as any of them?
Thank you. I am very happy to be wrong if they are metal and will correct this and admit my mistake in my review video of the bike this week. Appreciate you correcting me. You obviously love the GB350 and for good reason. Its a fantastic bike.
Just wanted to correct you on where this was designed and built, the GB350 that Australia gets is built in Japan as are the Japanese one's, there put together at the Honda's Kumamoto factory, the engines are built in Honda's ogawa factory, there is a lot of miss information about saying they where originally designed and built in India, a simple google search will show a picture of the blokes at Honda responsible for it unique design, the Indian market would be just assembling, maybe welding and painting frames for there market, it does not make the engine
That's great news if the original components for the first bike (CB350 H'ness) were also made in Japan.
In Germany they call it GB 350 S, I"ll get my blue one in the second week of january 2025 ! This bike is designed and build ( probably completely ! ) in Japan as said below 🤘
@@derhiob8493 I'm sure you will enjoy it they are great fun 😊
@@derhiob8493 yeh they look great. There are a few differrences between my R model and the S you are getting which I will explain in the full review I am working on at the moment but the power and the brilliant sound are just the same. ENJOY your new wheels. :>)
We can all only hope that it is better than the original , slow , gutless , poor handling , over weight , asthmatic piece of chrome plated tin junk ............. If price is all that matters to you , go for it ...!!
You sound fun at parties
not your cup of tea then ?
No I don't have that excuse as I didn't buy it on price ... I bought it to help teach someone to ride ... and yeh it is slow but it is charming in its own unique way. Maybe its my age ... lol ...
@@motorcyclingdownunder i agree, i am 67 and will be ordering one shortly.
@@glendyble4725 Great choice. You'll love it. Leisurely yet engaging riding by needing to change the gears regularly make it perfect in my book. If I want to go fast or tour long distances I have other bikes for that. :>)
This is a nice entry level machine. Or a close out machine for seniors like me. Happy Honda made this.
So am I. I think many other riders will enjoy a go on it too - as long as they aren't speed demons ... lol ...
Calling a motorcycle "entry level" is the kiss of death to good affordable motorcycles. A Nissan Sentra is not an entry level car, it is an affordable car.
@@KLRJUNE valid point. I think everyone would enjoy riding this bike. :>)
Like the bike and review. A license amounts to the state AKA polical class selling a right back to you. Gov consists of parasites.
I like the GB better than the Royal Enfield 350s. I wonder if the GB500 will be a single.
Not sure if it will be the 471 twin out of the Rebel 500, Hornet 500, CB500F and CB500X/NX500 or a big bore version of the GB350 motor. :>)
I think a big bore @@motorcyclingdownunder
@@alanriozzi421 that's is the latest rumour I heard - which keeps in more with the retro nature of this bike which I think is based on the single cylinder thumpers of the past. :>)
Bewtyful bike,great noise Enjoy it
Thank you. I will. :>)
Damn. The white looks so nice. As you say, I didn't realise that was an option here in Australia. I've had the denim blue for about a year. Still quite happy with it!
Yeh the white looks great. If they do decide to sell their demonstrater I could be tempted to buy that one too and have a matching black and white set ... lol ....
I really like the blue as well. Goes great with the brown seat.
Looks so much like my first road back, a 1983 Suzuki 400. I loved that little bike and regret ever selling it.
Yeh it also reminds me of my first road bike from the late 70s. A Honda CB250. :>)
is this a cb350 hness honda has in india?
I understand Honda first designed and had the CB350 H'ness made in India to compete with Royal Enfield before deciding to also release one (the GB350) in other parts of Asia including Australia. A slightly different variant of the same bike but build in Japan. Not sure whether the components are all made in one place and then assembled in different places but the quality of finish on the GB350 seems equivalent to any other Japanese made bike at this price point. They have had so much interest in this small retro looking bike they are now releasing it in Europe and the UK and possible North America although I haven't heard that last bit officially announced yet.
Nice choice. A great little Honda.❤
Thank you. Its brilliant :>)
Great choice.
I think so. Smaller and less powerful than my other bikes but very characterful in its own unique way. I think I'll enjoy riding it as much as Riding Hood will. :>)
With the cover on, it looked like a horse... 🤜🤣🤛
... lol ... this bike could use a few more horses :>) Its very low on power but still very high on fun.
Gotta be the Interceptor or Conti GT RE I reckon!
Unfortunately not - but still keen to add an Interceptor to the collection. When you watch the next few posts you will see why I went down the path I did. :>)
The shock comes from adding up everything that gets paid in and divided by the miles travelled. The residual value gets subtracted on the day you move it on. Multiply the result by a return trip to the beach where the ice cream seemed expensive. My trip to the beach is probably around £50 for 25 miles.
Nice little Honda. ❤
It certainly is. Has no power, acceleration or speed but is still so full of character and it looks fantastic. :>)
@ I am of the opinion these days that torque is nice, speed can get you into trouble. Small bikes capture something that to me is the essence of that real motorcycle experience. I’ve gone back to a 250 (WR250R) after 25 years of riding and I’m enjoying going back to simpler times. Enjoy!
@@Bicycle_Fungi totally agree. I had so much fun riding the low powered GB home yesterday. Involved lots of gear shifting just to keep it pulling in any head wind or on any decline but that is what I remember with my very early bikes. We are going to really enjoy this sweet little unasuming thumper.
@@Bicycle_Fungi I agree totally
Why does it sound like a Volkswagon bug 🤔
lol - can't say I have made that comparison - I think the stock standard exhaust on the Z900RS sounds great. :>)
Don't get it wet and dirty. I have a 1999 FXDL,terrible quality short on my channel. At 5'7 with forward controls and buckhorns it's a perfect fit. Haven't tried anything with efi. Weighs 630lbs fuelled up. Self cancelling indicators, trickle charger and it's got mirrors. I use autosol and bags of cotton wool balls, turn frequently. Microfiber cloth to remove the residue on exhaust. Everything else gets armor all tyre foam, works great on the engine black and doesn't mind oil cooled temps. I wouldn't put it on a satin black exhaust. Don't rub dust in,waterless wax and pledge furniture Polish work well.
Music is mostly irrelevant and distracting over the sound of a motorcycle. I get some people even listen while riding but it'll be what they chose and not middle of the road instrumental. I've tried earplugs on my Harley but they don't make much difference.
I never listen to music while riding. Although have been experimenting with some music in my videos. The feedback I'm getting it most people prefer to hear the engine noise. :>)
You keeping this one?
I keep all my bikes. I'm not someone who keeps changing or who gets board with any motorcycle I buy after comprehensive researching and great thought. The only one I got rid of in recent years was the CB125e I was teaching Riding Hood to use gears on. The front brake was snatchy and locked easily so I gave it to her brother. This bike is a replacement for her learning journey and a different style of riding for me compared to all my other bikes. :>)
Triumph thunderbird sport. RE interceptor. Both have been on my list. First big bike was a 2 year old RD500lc. Then an FZR1000 genesis. GSXR750j. Then I got a Harley 883 and never liked plastic again. Tried an fzx750 and an FJ1200 for a while before I could stretch to a Harley evo FXDL, kept it for 8 years and now have a 1999 FXDL. I'm not very tall so the Ducati 999 is not ideal but I'd still like one.
I saw a second hand Thunderbird for sale at a local dealer not long ago. What a great looking bike. And yes I love the Interceptor. It and the Classic 350 are still my favourite Royal Enfields. :>)
