What other tips do you have to add to this list?
Good advice. I've had difficulty in the past attempting to convert $50 bills into Thai baht due to forgeries. I would suggest only $100 bills clean and crisp preferred.
If your driver's license is close to exploration and you didn't get it renewed before traveling to Thailand make sure to apply for your new Thai driver's licence before it expires or you will have to take a written test after watching a movie.
Thanks
Oh, I forgot to mention if you don't have a valid driver's license you will also be required to pass a driving test.
This is a great video. So easy to follow. There were 3 or 4 on here, I have not heard or only slightly touched on by others vloggers. The VPN, Bringing large amount of cash (still little scary traveling with big bucks), and the sim card specifics were very helpful. I had not thought of keeping the US phone while living there either. My move timeline is April/May of 2025. Coming to stay for a couple weeks May of this year just to get a feel for some things. My family was at first concerned and not really on board with me living abroad, but I've been showing them vlogs of the cost of living and they are slowing becoming supportive of my decision.
Thank you. You won't need to have cash in hand long. You'll get your Thai bank account quickly and deposit the cash, and then all those upfront payments can be done from there. I brought about 3,000.
Great video. Wonderful advice. I use a dual sim phone for T-mobile and AIS. Can't miss important calls/text in both countries. 2-Factor authentication are used by financial institutions. VPN is important on the phone/laptop. Otherwise can't login to banks including western union.
Thanks for watching
Great advice! We’re coming! Washington state to Thailand❤
Thanks. Welcome to Thailand
Do not take your American Express because no one takes that brand credit card. 😂 🇹🇭🇺🇸
Good one
Ugh, that stinks. I love my AmEx.
Yes, I was in Brazil and they laughed at American Express cards.
Excellent tips!
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Some great tips, sir. Thanks for sharing! Subscribed.
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for subscribing!
great tips. one of the more helpful and straightforward/practical videos on moving to Thailand
Thank you. I appreciate you watching.
This video was useful.. lots of back and forth over where to get a sim card. I think e-sim is the way to go... one phone with two numbers that you can switch depending on what you are doing.
Thanks! Glad you found it useful
You might want to look at getting a travel router so it handles the VPN instead of always running a VPN on every device
Great idea, thanks!
I am a new subscriber to your channel. I have enjoyed your videos, keep them coming!
Thanks. Glad you're enjoying them.
Could You elaborate on What Telephone Service Did You get to Retain your US Phone # inexpensively and is it a E-Sim and then would You use a Duel Sim Phone 1slot for your Thai # Thank You
Tello. It's an esim. My Thai number is physical sim, but can use esim too if you have a new Apple
Great Tips
Thank you
Drivers license expiration is great idea.
Thumbs up 👍 Michael
Thanks as always. I appreciate you watching.
My new iPhone only accepts esims. Can you walk into a 7-11 and purchase/activate an esim?
Most providers let you just download them from their sites.
How much cash? And is their restrictions on bring in money. What bank do you use?
Different for everyone. There are limits that require declaration of cash, both at departure from your home country and entry to Thailand. Be sure to research the laws that apply to you if you're bringing a lot of cash.
@@RetiringToAsia Thanks for your thoughts.
How much cash are you aloud to bring with you into Thailand?
Good question and an often misunderstood concept. You can take as much money in or out of a country as you want but there are declaration requirements at customs. For instance if you exit the United States and take more than $10,000 in cash or negotiable instruments it's perfectly legal but you must declare it to customs before you leave or enter. There is no limit just be aware of any declaration requirements at your departure and arrival country.
Bringing into or taking out of Thailand baht banknotes in an amount exceeding THB 450,000 or foreign currency banknotes in an amount exceeding USD 15,000 or its equivalent requires a Customs declaration when entering or leaving the country.
I like the idea of using a Visa Agent. Who did you use and what is the approximate cost.
I used Aom at So Good Visa. Price varies with service. Reach out to her and tell her I sent you.
How did you go about finding an apartment rental?
I watched a lot of condo tours and looked at several on my prior trips. You can see more about that in my condo tours playlist.
@@RetiringToAsia Thanks for your info.
There is no SIM card in my iPhone. I haven’t heard anyone address how the local data purchase can work. I use Verizon’s international plan but it’s expensive at $100 for thirty days.
Apple...love the stock but I don't own the products. The latest versions use eSIM instead of physical SIM. The iPhone 15 is capable of storing up to eight eSIMs. You would just download one to the phone. My Samsung has a physical Thailand SIM and a US eSIM
The phone probably has a E-Sim same thing just no physical card. Depending on the phone always good to have 2 Sims capable, it can be two of the same type or one of each. You can change it over or have the phone service place do it for you. Anyway I decided on keeping my phone and US number, and buy a phone local for Thailand with a cheap plan I carry my Thailand phone and my US phone stays locked up in Apt. Thailand phone will never have banking apps or anything that can used if lost only what I need for daily life in Thailand.
Make sure that your phone is unlocked. Some companies, I've heard this a lot about Verizon and AT&T, that they sell phones locked to their sims. And if that is the case, you can't even install an SIM card from a different provider.
I can hear you but something is causing your sound to fad up and down slightly which can get a bit annoying.
Good info Tom Hanks, thank you!
Agree almost cant make out what is being said and volume is max on this end.
Thanks for the feedback. It's probably me turning my head away from the microphone. I'm working on getting better at it.
@osros Hmm, I'm not seeing that here. 🤔
