- Forty years after the first Japenese invasion Honda has built a bike to take on Europe's best, the Honda CB1000R and you can see it in action below.
MCN's editor Marc Potter travelled to Italy to take the motorcycle for a spin on the streets of Milan and the twisty roads near Lake Como.
Watch the video below to see if Potski believe's the CB1000R can be the best super naked then read the full article in MCN, Wednesday, 23 April, 2008.

Filmed entirely on a cell phone! Nice one, MCN!
I've had my CB1000 now for four weeks and clocked up nearly 400 miles, I ride it in London all day everyday. I absolutely love it. I am not that experienced with Bikes but I think it depends on what are your needs. I have to admit one thing, it;s a bit thirsty but given the pleasure of riding I get out of it, It's not a total disaster.
Under 40 secs of actual spoken info re the bike. I accept MCN productions have improved in recent years. Thanks anyway
That is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Rainb0wSeven could you explain a bit since Im a rider and these two are on my radar to relace my 05 Hnda vfr!!
@Brainiac83 you right mate, my suzuki naked sv 650 makes 210, but after 200km/h it's very difficult to handle the bike, the wind is too powerfull
he makes wheelie look so easy.....can someone tell if there is any vid of cb1000r without music n where i can hear its stock sound..??...pleaseee
@Brainiac83 this is the bike that replaced mine, i have the honda 919 (900 hornet)
the price of this bike is a little much though, i think mine has enough power and ive put enough money into mine, im actually just wondering how well it can stand up to the 900 hornet
Ok, good to know. I'll try one within the next days
i like it !!!
Had a test ride whilst my 929RR was in for a service. Makes me love my Blade! It's far less comfy, my bum was hurting after twenty miles. Anything over 100mph on windy A-roads is a liability because of the wind pulling you back on the bars and no steering damper.
Whereas the 2008 Blade's engine is a peach, this feels almost lifeless. Power delivery is SO notchy too, worse than anything I've ridden. For nearly £8k I expected much more.
14 years ago the cb now has the 2008 cbr engine ,much more comfortable,better suspension
I wish the new cb1000 was 8k
I don't like the yellow gold colour much, but I suppose it is getting difficult to find new exciting hues for new bikes. i want to know what the other paint job alternatives there are. He did not state the price...!
That is good colour.
I've ridden both the Z1000 and the CB1000R and I was astonished to find that the Kawasaki is actually the better of the two.
I totally agree mate.
I like this bike way more than the equally cool CBR 1000 the riding position is just so much more comfortable.
mamma mia quanto è bella...
The problem i have with nakeds is they'r underpowered compared to their full fairing brethren. For example a 2011 CBR1000rr will flog a 2011 CB1000r in a race. They could easily be made to have the same power, then people who prefer the look of a naked wouldnt be disadvantaged
Nice bike overall.
Personaly I dislike the single swing-arm and all digital dash - to space-age-like. I also miss the gold front forks. But that's just aesthetics. I wonder how the thing rides?! =)
P.S.: What's the songs name playing in the background??
is the cb1000r the hornet 1000cc ?
@ravikantreddy1 I totally agree. This continuity music is what they play on sitcoms to avoid those cringeworthy silent moments when no one is laughing. Harumph!
@onteamplanb it is called a hornet 600...
Went to a store and tryed 1 and i got it to245km/h on the speedometer wasent feeling any bad handling.. well not worse than speed tripple, z1000, fz1n or any other naked bike i have tried.
I want a CB600r! When is Honda getting on that?
How can they say that when the reviews that followed said its a good bike but not enough to worry the z1000... Obviously the Honda contract had expired.... Allegedly!!!???!!!
geil geil geil
Honda USA, please offer this bike here. Some of us want a (almost) full-blown superbike with a livable position.
@mindfreak5565 is bei meiner Nisse genauso, aber Hang off ist einfach zu schön, als das man es nicht machen kann ... Er machts auch nur aus dem Grund denk ich ... nur halt zu lahm, damits nach was aussieht ^^
yeah, it has the Blade engine
This was about as enjoyable and informative as when my doctor told me I had AIDS.
Seriously though, Why bother watching this video of an MCN journalist very, (very) moderately "tootling it" around Italy in the wet on a bike that the viewers still know nothing about, apart from the fact he thinks it looks "fantastic" and has decent mid-range power. Give me my Buell XB12 back... and the last 2:16 of my life...
i ride a honda cb 600f (naked bike). I'm riding it for 2 weeks now and i can garantie you that if haven ridden 180km/h without problem. It goes faster but i haven't tested yet and it' s only a 600cc. i do have to say that if you ride 150kmh for 15min it isn't thate
comfreble. and its boring. it's not the speed but the cornering that's interesting.
Wish he would turn that bloody indicator off
how bad can we make the quality of this...first class
Hehehe, it's strange... This guy is called Marc Potter - and he reminds me a little of Harry Potter.
he made wheelie at corner exists look so easy.
Triumph Street Triple 675:
675 cc
107 hp
167 kg
but i like the honda also :D
in which categorie is falls?
naked/sportbike/tourer/sporttourer?
:)
Naked
@mhks68
The CB1000R feels underpowered and the seating position isn't quite as comfortable. - At the end of the day, it's still a Honda, so the build quality and reliability will be superior to the Kawasaki, but if I had to pick between the two, I'd take the Z1000 hands down.
@ravikantreddy1
AMEN couldn't have said it better !
nice,
the hell streetfighter
@fatbollox75
That's what i thought.. his corner speed was way too slow for that position
I did 220 with my hornet, no problem... Sure you need strong arms and you don't do a 50km trip at that speed but at 160km/h you definitely can
which better between z1000 and cb1000r?
2024 cb1000r
@ravikantreddy1 AMEN!
man the exhaust is just...
please spot playing music in the bike videos, if we wanted music we'd buy a car!!
great looking bike by the way...
@lipeloko69 verdade em mais a moto é zika
you forgot your flasher dude!
Why wheelie out of every corner???
cuz hes a brit.brain deadcell.pity me i live here too
@ravikantreddy1 I've been watching bike videos all day and I've determined that 99% of them have shitty music. When I get my next bike I'm getting a nice camara with an external mic and flooding youtube with videos that have no music.
Cos' he can... :)
The music ruins the video
In the 6th gear, it's limited to 225 kmh, because of poor handling (that's what I've read in a magazine)
Music...??....really..?!...
ronnie toffee apple there lol
@SmokyMcPot007 I love the look of my 2003 CB900f919 better than this new one by far
Not a huge fan of the exhaust... nice bike nonetheless.
manufacturers are doing some pretty ugly slips like the case in this motorcycle and the Suzuki B-king, Aprilia Shiver, hornet 08..
maybe they want us to buy termignoni :) for replace
@Brainiac83 70Mph on my hornet says otherwise.
480p xd
@ravikantreddy1 truth
Yet another standard with a super-bike motor that has been "re-tuned for more low end torque and street-ability" Why can't they use the same damn motor/tuning/etc.?
@RS125DeViL no
thats my jacket! and the leather is shit. Damn you Dainese!!
Top speed doesn't matter on naked bikes
I don't wanna know the pros i wanna know the cons....
@SmokyMcPot007
lol! stop smoke weed man!
Que teste tosco, o cara passa pelo mesmo lugar diversas vezes!!!
no!thath is super but they dont know how to use it;)
headlight looks gasmask....
Go figure that a journalist who rides bikes for a living would have the worst body positioning / most nervous riding style I've ever seen! Put Neeves on the thing, kill that generic "music," and send this guy back to his desk until he has a little more experience!
honda beat this one with the ugly tree..
Nice design lousy color.
Very shoddy and poorly put together video. I guess i'll be looking elsewhere for a video review.
Stick to paper MCN.
This was years ago. Production standards have moved on.
I do believe that is the very chap I used to beat the hell out of in back of school.
Although this video is 10 years old it is one of the worst I've ever seen. Poor quality, poor information content and poor riding skills. With this poor line selection, I would be surprised if he has not caused a bad accident yet. That's why the wannabe wheelie does not get any better after every turn.
its very ugly I like the older CB919 better
For me the CB600 Hornet looks better than this one! ... Would never change my Hornet for this ugly big brother.
not fit to be mentioned in the same breath as a fazer!!!
These "test" videos are complete junk!! These "editors" need to actually show us some thrashing of the bike. You want to do a good review? Show me that thing getting hammered on with 10k clutch dumps or somthing. I can ride a sport bike like a moped and write about too. Oh yeah...turn of the music so we can hear the bike.
That guys riding style was awful. Sticking his knee out when he really didnt need to. Quite pathetic really.
Deer, honda is thing of little girl, and for your information try compare, yamaha whith honda, fazer 600 have 180 Kg not 220 like you wrote, and the best motorcycle in the world is the yamaha r1, me whit my fz6n had let a lot of hornets eating road
