She has to be one of the best loved characters with over 27 million people tuning in. To see her last episode.. That was almost half of England watching... In 1987...
Bernard Youens (Stan Ogden) 27th August 1984 Jean Alexander ( Hilda Ogden ) 14th October 2016 they where an absolute legends on Coronation Street as a married couple missed sadly by millions of Fan R.I.P
TOO TRUE ....i grew up in Manchester and my mum watched Corrie all the time in the 70s and 80s ( I was born 1970) when I was growing up they were true to life as were most of the characters back then and they brought in Liz Dawn and Bill Tarmey as the double act so to speak after bernards passing but Jean still kept her character and her woes and tribulations too! I'm now 53 and I Miss that comedy element of Corrie and the 4 great actors that played the stalwart characters of Hilda, stan, Vera, and Jack for myself the 70s and 80s were the Golden yrs of Corrie...I ain't watched it for yrs now as it got to be like Eastenders and the rebooted Emmerdale Farm with outlandish storylines and disasters to get the ratings....corrie in my book is a shadow of its former self... Tony Warren god rest his soul would be turning in his grave to see that it's gone from what his original vision was for the show (i know they have to adapt to modern times etc) but these days it's lost that element of drama mixed with some light comedy with the characters! (but as I said not watched it in yrs only time I have tuned in was for anniversaries of the show like the live one they did! As a northerner, it still holds a place in my heart, and I'm still glad to see William Roach (who's been there from the start) and barbara knox still in the show!
I think Hilda is my favourite character of any tv show I’ve ever seen, only now watching these back am I truly appreciating how brilliant she really 2:59 was ❤
Great Actress If you are anyone else happens to have the clip featuring Jean Alexander as Hilda Ogden Returning to visit Stan's Grave for the ITV Telethon The Year was 1990 Would Really Love To See This Again. (JUST POST IT HERE
@ The sniper Abel, they didn't after the above-mentioned Special on the ITV telethon in 1990 (which was a special 5 min scene and NOT included in any episode of Corrie) BUT when Jean Alexander passed they did an episode where the news of Hilda's passing broke, unfortunately, I can't find a clip of it anywhere but I do remember it airing at the time!
People hardly ever tip us in hotels now - even 50p would be appreciated and soon mount up the amount of folk that have you run ragged fetching them this that and the other .Ironic really because i always tip - more so taxi drivers and hairdresser because i dont stay in hotels . There are still a very few that do tip and their kindness is very much appreciated.
Sarah they had 4 according to the wiki...2 were taken into care before the Ogdens came on the show and the had Trevor who ran away and pretended they were dead and Irma who married Kens brother David way way back...Irma became widowed and moved to Canada

There are still plenty of ‘Stan Ogdens’ in the UK.

I love hildas singing voice
so high and wobbly, don't get voices like that anymore
Such a shock when you hear Jean Alexander's speaking voice!!!!
