The "woman, Stanley. Woman" line, Stan going to sleep and Hilda singing in her own style. Corrie magic. Watched it for 40 years, would never even dream of watching it now.
A brilliantly written piece, just brilliantly acted out. She literally OWNED that character in as where she, Jean Alexander, could never ever be replaced in the role.. She was a joy and lit up my TV as a kid and early adult... RIP hon..what a legend xx
so true. that's what used to be great about it. Each scene was a mini play, or a piece of poetry. You can listen to it without the pictures and still enjoy it
Like 2 people you'd meet in the pub yet they were never 2 people you'd meet in the pub absolute geniuses brought happiness and sadness to over 20 million people during the 80's r.i.p x
Made me have little tear in me eye this. My gran used to love this.. Hilda and Stan were absolutely brilliant.. they never had owt but they just got by. Classic northern working class.
I've watched Corrie in Ireland since I was a nipper. Hilda had SO many hilarious lines, but I think the best was when she turned to Stan, exasperated by something he'd done and said "ow the eck did I get lumbered with you? I must've tripped over you in a blackout". Pure gold ⚡ I don't know why Corrie is so shite these days...endless (unlikely) stories about mass murder, tram crashes, exploding factories and domestic abuse. The stories used to be character-based, but now they're just chasing ratings...a slippery slope! Just thought of another one-liner...one of Elsie's fuckbuddies was in the corner shop buying Elsie a box of chocs for Valentine's day or something...Hilda was in there too, earwigging, and said to him "if they're for oo I think they are, you'd be better off buying her a bottle a gin" 😂😂😂😂😂

Brilliant played by two very fine actors. Like watching tennis between them. Best soap couple ever.
Rest In Peace, Jean Alexander, national treasure, so nice to see her again as Hilda, hilarious and touching double act, so cute.
