  • Get ready for inspiration overload, gang, we've got a jam-packed episode lined up for you! Remember that arched doorway off the entry room? Tonight we'll take you through it into the 'good room' and you'll get a good look at all the details. There are panelled walls, textures, candles (and nipples!) galore. Bon's bench-seat-a-thon continues... although this time she's calling it a day bed same same but different 🤷🏻‍♀️and she has us pondering, how many cushions is too many? Ask our husbands... You know how we love a combined laundry and powder room, well they don't get much prettier than this 'lil one. And if you're wondering what the heck a 'multi use' room is... watch now and all will be revealed!

    This episode really has me wondering about the practicality.
    Losing a shower in a 6 person household is significant. Also, that's a tiny laundry for such a big family. What did they gain by combining the two!?! It might be part of a future episode, but they should have mentioned it.
    I'm just gonna assumed they build the best barn door ever, that won't let you hear what's happening in the (guest!!!)bathroom.
    If the family doesn't keep the furniture, it doesn't matter, but I they do the 5th bedroom seemed wrongly styled to me. They wanted a 5th bedroom! It would have been so easy to make it functional to sleep guests, but work/ look like like an office/library otherwise.
    And what happend with the fire place at 18:33. How do they compensate that? They also moved the wall. What's back there? Some explanations would have been necessary
    Not that happy with this episode... :/

      I watched it last night and when I woke up I was still trying to sort out problems. Laundry in a powder room with no space to do laundry, keep it, fold, it, and no privacy from indoors or out, white furniture for a house full of kids, all the living room furniture pressed to the walls with a tiny round table floating in the middle, supposedly formal living room more like a bunch of comfy places to lie down. Formality comes from symmetry, clean lines, a sense of balance and stability but the choices here, cool as they are, are poofy, asymmetrical, off balance, out of scale, more for a beach house vibe, nothing formal. It’s beautiful but I don’t see how it functions. I do like opening the controversial fifth bedroom because of a sense of space but what is it? It could have been a cozy snug, tv room, a guest bedroom, an office, anything, but it’s kind of nothing. Video does things to proportion and scale and really, I love this show most of the time but this episode bugged me. As others have commented, I don’t like the way it appears as though all three weigh in on design, but it really comes down to whatever Bonnie wants and sometimes she appears to be passive aggressive about it, sneaking things in. She is brilliant and the ways she thinks outside the box are fun and stunning, but when there is a practical need, she doesn’t seem to take that info on board and respond to it from her brilliance. It’s a little uncomfortable to watch and is becoming more so. If that’s just a story choice and not reality, it is not working for me.

      @@MediaTribeUSAAus Tbh in Europe we usually don't have such things as a laundry room and a huge washing machine like that looks sufficient for a family of 6. I will never understand why people in Australia would need a dryer for their laundry, though...

      @Olivia I know, but there are design factors that lend themselves to formal and except for the two chairs and white, in my opinion, those formal elements were missing from this room. It is a beautiful room, but not formal.

    Personally I think the choices in this episode are great! That multipurpose room can change as they need it, if eventually they want to make it a 5th bedroom, they can do that easily! Also, the laundry x powder room is really practical, because it saves so much space, it is actually quite common in lots of places! Also, I love a barn door, and having it on the powder room is great, assuming it is sound/smell proof!! Great video!!

      i agree somewhat. i feel like there’s so much white in every design they do. it would be nice if they added accent walls or statement pieces that brings more quirkiness. in bonnies house, they had a cottage with a beautiful forest green accent wall & it’s exactly something i’d like to see incorporated into some of their designs. i think they have an affinity for finding 100,000 ways to style plain white walls differently.

    I think this is the only episode I don't think the choices were practical. Why join powder and laundry room? It looks pretty in the end view, they decorate pretty, but on the day to day don't think it's practical. There's no space to handle clothes properly. I know it's not my house, but it just doesn't make sense to me when you make what they already have more uncomfortable. I agree with the other comments they should have staged the 5th br as an office/ guestroom. Plus hopefully they add heat source bc they didn't mention any when they took down the fireplace.

    • @maitei7
      @maitei7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lillee7439 I hope the owners find it practical as well!! I just couldn't see myself cramped in there having to carry laundry baskets in and out and trying to sort and fold clothes. I'd rather have the space to leave the baskets in there and be able to sort, fold and hang, so that it's all contained in one space and not all over if that makes any sense. I even do the ironing in my laundry room. But I guess you can make it work and it's more of a personal preference type of thing.

    • @jlammetje
      @jlammetje 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@maitei7 But you shouldn't try to sort/fold clothes in that space. When your "laundry room" is that small, you only use it for the actual washing/drying, and carry the clean laundry elsewhere for the sorting and folding.

    • @maitei7
      @maitei7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@jlammetje that's exactly what I said. They used to have the room for it, but because it got combined with the powder room now they don't. So they will have to be with the back and forth of carrying baskets in and out and doing that elsewhere. For me, I see it as more of a hassle if they already had a designated space for it. But it's just a personal preference thing if they don't mind it. I just rather have all the clothes clutter in one space and have plenty of storage for cleaning supplies ironing and everything in the same spot without having to worry about it being in the way of guests either. That's why I didn't think it was a practical choice, not saying it doesn't work. Just thought that part was better before IMO.

    Who needs two living rooms? I honestly don't get why Bonnie didn't respect the wishes of the homeowners. For a big family, an extra bedroom for visiting relatives etc is important and useful, a second living room isn't. They already have a lounge, a daybed, 2 big chairs and one huge chaise lounge type thing. Why would they need more? Children usually sit on the floor to play, anyways.

Each of the children has their own bedroom upstairs, so the 5th bedroom wasn't a necessity, just a nice to have for when guests come to stay. I think the multi functional room is actually a wonderful idea. We are a big family of 7 and about 2 of us are already out of homes so its nice to have the option to choose what to do with the space as times progresses and the needs of the family change. I would have done the powder room as a laundry room and the multipurpose room into the powder room. That way the powder room doesn’t have a washing machine and dryer, and it is bigger. And there is a proper laundry especially with a family this big.

      Hi Sofi, the owners wanted a room that could be used when guests stay over or to use as a study/additional TV room, which is why we went with the multipurpose room x

    The only thing about putting a toilet where the laundry is, is that bathrooms tend to have a lot bacteria. I wouldn't want that in a place where I am washing and drying my clothes, kind of gross.

    • @nadjak3410
      @nadjak3410 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't want to know what the bathrooms of people complaining about this look like 😳 your kitchen btw tends to have more bacteria than your bathroom if both are kept decently clean.
      Honestly I'm not trying to shame but in Europe anything like a laundry room isn't a thing. The washing machine is in the kitchen or bathroom. Dryers are also rare here and I'm wondering why anyone in the warmer regions of Australia would need one.

    • @nicolemartin8303
      @nicolemartin8303 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nadjak3410 I agree Australians tend to dry their clothing on a backyard clothesline . Dryers are only used in rainy weather here. Our electricity is too expensive to dry all our clothes everyday in a dryer.. So once the clothes are washed in the machine they wouldn't be in the laundry for any long periods of time.

  • @joannamcinnes916

    I am amused by Australian English. Over here, a lounge is the same as a living room so when I hear someone say they are reupholstering their lounge, I imagine swathes of fabric hanging across the ceilings and walls like in a Turkish harem!
    I have picked up some great decorating tips from this series, though English homes are on the whole a lot smaller than Australian ones and walls are made of brick internally and externally.
