I had a salesperson at a local Long & McQuade music shop, tell me there was a marked difference in feel between the 50's historic series Custom Shop Gibson Les Pauls, and their Gibson U.S.A. counterparts. He claimed the Custom Shop guitars tended to feel looser, not super stiff compared to the rather stiff feel of a Gibson U.S.A. guitar. I later learned when I was lucky enough to try out and really feel the difference and actually buy for my very own self one of the Custom Shop Historic Spec R8 Bourbonburst. And it is beautiful and indeed never felt stiff or clunky or less than inspiring. I am proud to be able to own one, and am happy tp have watched this video!
Wonderful video guys! Really appreciated all the great information. Mat seems a genuine great guy and ambassador for Gibson. Best part though has to be Pete doing a bit of shopping throughout! Like a kid in a candy store, but who could blame him! 😂
You can really begin to understand why Gibsons cost so much more, especially the Custom Shop and Murphy Labs guitars. And you can feel it and hear it when you play one back to back with a main line Gibson. I own a 2019 59 Goldtop LP Standard, and really like it, but one day I would love a Murphy Lab Les Paul. They are truly something else.
The message I get from this is that the guitars are built to different specs and more options are available but the actual amount of cnc vs hand finishing and the quaility of materials used isn't that much different from standard USA Gibsons. There's probably a lot more hand work in the Murphy Lab but I see little to justify the massive price hike of customs over standard Gibsons
So flip matching historic tops is taking a big piece of maple cutting end end off and flip n match it up, to create a uniformed match but the flame lines are slightly off set on purpose?
There won't be a Murphy lab video - they never let cameras in any relic shop, Gibson or Fender (probably because they don't want the customer to know they're charging double for scraping guitars on rocks 😆)
I got my first custom shop 1957 Goldtop Reissue vos in 2019/20 and it’s best les Paul I’ve played, and it’s looks soo good! I then got a 1958 plain top reissue the year after 😂 The USA range Gibsons feel like toys compared to the custom shops, having them side by side compared you feel the difference! 🤘🏻
15:20 What was edited out? Prototype necks or necks for someone famous?! Something that Gibson obviously didn't want "out there"!! lol 28:20 Direct mounted pickups is one of the biggest myths out there!! There's a reason why Gibson and Fender mounted pickups with rings/pickguards and springs! This way the body vibrating DOESN'T affect how the pickup "hears' the signal. It just makes sense. You don't want your microphone, or pickup or sound source vibrating, you want it to be as stable and static as possible. I love EVH, but he only direct mounted his pickups (with nails, lol) because he didn't know any better and that's what he had on hand. EVH also famously said that stainless steel frets DO NOT have any effect on the way a guitar sounds?! 👌

so you just have to manouver the strap from basically one place, instead of going wild with your arms!?
Thanks Captain and Gibson! These have been an amazing watch!
This was great guys! I can't wait for the Fender Factory videos!
They've actually already done one at Fender, it's on TH-cam somewhere. Was excellent and included the custom shop too.
Thanks! Was an absolute joy to watch you tours 😊
Andertons & Gibson, the movie !!
Keep on rocking, Lee. You're a champ.
Great Video's Standard and Custom But Where are the Acoustic;s made ?
These tour videos always make me want to play my 335.
damn Lee, you're knocking these last tours out of the park.!
*edit* I want to add Pete to my comment. I saw him poking around.
I've got a 58 dc junior in TV yellow, so interesting to see where it came from
Me too
Those are for sure adam jones Flying V necks being made on that cnc 👌
Hopefully I'll have mine soon
WAY COOL
That al di meola multicolor finish
Amazing learning!!!!
Wonderful video guys! Really appreciated all the great information. Mat seems a genuine great guy and ambassador for Gibson. Best part though has to be Pete doing a bit of shopping throughout! Like a kid in a candy store, but who could blame him! 😂
7:26 what gibson has those headstocks?
That archtop sanding rig is ridiculous. How do you have so many dudes with long hair not tied back around power tools?
That dude sanding the 335 did give me anxiety. I’m sure he knows what he’s doing, but yeah the long hair weirds me out and I’m worried for his safety😅
Operator skill?
I thought the same.
No I can not! Gibson are thieves. You can hear a difference from a regular custom shop guitar, to a Murphy destroyed guitar?
LMAO… Poser
I wonder what Lee spotted at 15:20 that had to be cut out…..
YEa! I was looking for this whole week!!!!!
So flip matching historic tops is taking a big piece of maple cutting end end off and flip n match it up, to create a uniformed match but the flame lines are slightly off set on purpose?
can't wait for the Murphy lab!!!
There won't be a Murphy lab video - they never let cameras in any relic shop, Gibson or Fender (probably because they don't want the customer to know they're charging double for scraping guitars on rocks 😆)
@@nvlddmkm1282😁 It looks like salvaged guitars
I got my first custom shop 1957 Goldtop Reissue vos in 2019/20 and it’s best les Paul I’ve played, and it’s looks soo good!
I then got a 1958 plain top reissue the year after 😂
The USA range Gibsons feel like toys compared to the custom shops, having them side by side compared you feel the difference! 🤘🏻
Nice tour! When are you going to tour the Boseman, Montana Gibson Acoustic Guitar location?
I live in the Pacific Northwest and there a billions of trees here including Sitka. Where do you source your Sitka from?
at 1:30 are those old coffins on the left?
15:20 What was edited out? Prototype necks or necks for someone famous?! Something that Gibson obviously didn't want "out there"!! lol
28:20 Direct mounted pickups is one of the biggest myths out there!!
