Such a surreal video seeing the shop owner become the browsing customer and two idols of the TH-cam guitar world just walk around being geeky mates doing exactly what we do within Andertons. Loved this so much more than I thought I would. You boys are the best!
Every guitarist has heard One if you recognise something in the background then you mention it, it’s called human nature, plus playing metallica in a guitar store just as they are launching the epi greeny LP it’s called marketing
I was at the Gibson garage just a few weeks ago. Shout out to their sales staff. They let me play through a range of custom shop guitars and were incredibly friendly. I ended up picking out a 68 LPC and having it shipped home for me. Incredible experience. Specific shout out to Patrick Greene on the sales staff, cool dude. Even pointed us to a bar that night to see Guthrie trapp play and had an amazing night!
Been there a couple of months ago to purchase my Murphy Lab 59... what a place! Feels surreal and everyone working there is super friendly and nice! I also got the chance to see The Vault and for every guitar enthusiast it's like being in heaven!!🤯🎸
I got a Natural Mahogany Flying-V there a year ago and it was the best customer service I've had in a long time. They let me into the room where you build custom guitars with that blue suede Mesa Dual Rec half stack and shut the doors (It's still in the same spot!). He brought whatever guitar I wanted to try and then gave me a free string change and freshend the set-up once I chose. I know Gibson is on the pricey side, but if you're a guitar player and you've got a couple grand to spend it's a fantastic experience.
Always nice to have the best tools. At the end of the day it's really about who's handling the guitar. Too many get hung up on equipment. Heart, soul, feel, ear and natural ability are paramount.
This so amazing to see Big Ed!!! My dad Big Ed Thompson practiced/played that baby everyday just about! Yes he had big hands and t played that guitar like he was in love. Hopefully one day I can come see Big Ed and hold it like I did when I held it for my dad to give to him or just for me to see if I wanted to play it. Love love love this! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I used to work in a bar in that building called "The Bar Car" because of the train tracks that run behind Cummins Station. It was a debaucherous place to say the least. It was where you went if you wanted to have fun but didn't want to be found by the usual crowd.

Great video! I’d love to go to the Gibson Garage, but I’m in a wheelchair thesr days and I’d have a hard time dealing with the stairs. They’ve sure got some cool guitars, though! I used to live in Nashville back in thr late ‘70s, and there was nothing like the Garage then. I probably walked past the location hundreds of times-I was gigging at night and doing part-time sales at a small music store on Lower Broadway a few days a week. (Anybody remember Wes Holland Music?) The guitars in the Vault at the Garage were amazing! The Trini Lopez prototype was really cool-I’ve never seen that flat inline headstock on any other Gibson. In case you’re wondering, Trini Lopez was a Latino singer and guitarist who had great success in the ‘60s, doing Latin-rock versions of folk songs. Good singer and good rhythm guitarist. I understand the second switch on his signature guitar was so he could turn the guitar off to avoid feedback while he was clapping his hands over his head, which he did a lot. Anyway-cool vid, even if there was too much emphasis on Les Pauls! Gibson makes other models too, and SGs and 335s sort of got short shrift. And I can’t wait to see what’s coming from Epiphone-they’ve been doing some cool stuff lately.
Many thanks, Lee & Pete. Even though I live in America (St Augustine, Florida), I have always watched your videos (for the last 10 years) to learn the facts and your seasoned opinions on guitars and the things they use to make tone. As soon as I finished watching your NAMM video on the Epiphone 59 Les Paul Standard Outfit, I ordered one (and got it 10 months later) and have not regretted it. It is great that Gibson and Epiphone have finally figured out a logical order of ownership progression between their two product lines. Who knows--they may even develop an attractive customer-for-life progression. I'll be watching for my next guitar through Andertons. Thanks again and Happy New Year to everyone there. Cheers.
Stopped by two years ago and was blown away. Every amp had an attenuator and headphones setup on top of them. My wife held a Les Paul Standard and Modern for me while I AB'ed them through a Badlander and a MkIV 😂 If you're into guitars in general then this is a must-experience.
I love the plain, stripped down, satin finished Gibsons. I’d purchased a plain stripped down Gibson at $1,000 over a fancy Epiphone at the same price point. Some people want a no nonsense American made guitar with nitro finish over a fancy looking poly finish Epiphone. Nice factory tour videos, you guys did an excellent job, enjoyed watching them.
I was also there back in June, and was quite prepared to be underwhelmed but I came away thoroughly impressed after being in there for about 3-4 hours. Played so many different guitars, fell in love with several of them, wish I could have bought one back (more than one), staff were super helpful, and the conveyor was mind boggling. Hit Gruhns and Carters the following day, followed by Guthrie Trapp at the Underdog. Add in the mind boggling live music scene on Lower Broadway and side streets and you have guitar heaven. Can't wait to go back!!
Great tour guys !! A no - frills Gibson are the only ones I've ever bought. I like my Walnut SG and my faded 3 P-up SG. I think the people who wanted these either wanted a non-Fancy Gibson or an American made guitar. There is nothing wrong with wanting to support a company from your home country , where ever that is. 🎸🎸🎸🎸
I believe that “Gemini” Les Paul is the older sister to Greeny. They have sequential serial numbers and Kirk Hammett has mentioned they have a similar sound to them (in single-pickup positions). Cesar has said the top is likely cut from the same piece of maple.
If you watch the Rig Rundown of John Notto from Dirty Honey, he had the Gemini guitar on loan from Cesar for that show and they briefly discuss it being close to greeny ser number wise.
Ive beento Nashville a ton of times snd still never visited the Gibson Garage. Id like to eventually. The other shops like Carter Vintage always get my attention. Cool video guys.
What a phenomenal place. That harp guitar is incredible. Probably the only thing I own that I can see there is the Walter Carter book with that harp guitar on the front (great book by the way, celebrating 100 years of Gibson).
Another great tour; thank you so much, from Dallas, Texas! I’ve been a fan of your YT channel for a couple years now; always entertain and informative. But I’ve got to say these factory tour videos are some of y’all best work. I really enjoy seeing your enthusiasm and the level of detail you get into as you travel throughout each location. So cool! I’m looking forward to more your visit; especially your trip to the Martin factory un Nazareth. BD
The store video was fun, the vault was cool; but I appreciated the opportunity to here from Aljon the most. Personally, I understand why the current crop of Inspired by Gibson Custom Shop is in the price range it is. Is it too expensive? That's up to each person to decide for themselves. For me personally, It is a bit too expensive but I wish them the best because having more options has never hurt the customer.... except in their ability to decide what is right for them.
Thanks. It’s great to chat about the Inspired by Gibson Custom Shop range. There’s a lot of details and thoughtfulness behind them outside of the headstock and pickups. 🙌🤘
I agree with Pete's comments regarding the merch pricing at Gibson Garage. I am from the US and was in the London Gibson Garage ~3 weeks ago. I wanted to buy a Gibson Garage London T-shirt, but the price was 69 pounds which is almost $90 US. I just could not do it. I did get to Guildford and purchased a Chapman ML3 that I tried out at Anderton's. Thank you Pete and Lee for your interesting content.
Wow...... I absolutely would love to play Gemini haha How cool is it that Gibson and its higher ups want to take the time to showcase the badass guitars that they want to replicate and produce today
wow such a great video and such super guitars. Ive been a Les Paul Player since 1976, still have my 1976 Les Paul Standard tobacco burst. i love it. thanks so much Lee for sharing. priceless video. a million dollar Korina Explorer thats friggin unreal
Beautiful Gibson store , more and more i start to realize how beautiful the Gibson SG are when these were the Gibbons i less liked. Great video , Lee and Pete really nailed this video what i believe must have been an amazing experience , touching and playing those nostalgic real relic guitars with price tags that one only can dream could afford. I have the same opinion as Lee when comes to new stock relic guitars , they can only be in some way closely identical replicated from the originals that's all
that's where I ordered my les paul in August 2021 and not disappointed thanks to Mark for putting the number out because I was having a tough time finding my 1st Gibson les paul
Love the sweet shop enthusiasm. It feels like you two got locked in there after closing time. Keep the jacket on and start running to the airport. You’ll make it.
I was there a week ago. Did you happen to notice the cassette wall in the Kramer section, the white tapes were Van Halen releases? The J200 vine was my favorite in the acoustic section. I didn't know about the 'vault' area and would have pleaded to see that.
If they would brand the Epiphone headstock with the Gibson name I promise they’d sell 10x more epi’s. Just do what PRS does with their SE line and still have the main logo with a more subtle indication that it’s an epi.
Speaking of the Pinky wear. I always think back to the Joe Perry 1959. And I have always believed that is the best ever looking 1959 Les Paul. And that distinctive half moon pinky wear is amazing and my favorite use and abuse mark ever on a guitar.
Hopefully the Epiphone inspired by Gibson custom shop will realize the significance of nitro finishes in the near future. Imo next to the Gibson headstock and Gibson pickups, the nitro finishes will be the most important concept for Epiphone if this inspired by custom shop thing is going to work!
wonderful video!! in fairness to the more basic gibson models, I have a 2021 LP 50s tribute (honey burst), and it's an excellent guitar; it plays and sounds great. some of the melody makers and very inexpensive Gibsons might not help the brand, but the tributes are very, very good!
You guys might like the film: Only Lovers Left Alive" by Jim Jarmusch. There's a nice old Gibson in there. Played a Les Paul Standard, Unburst at Guitar Center through a perfect Tweed Princeton that sounded otherworldly and sold promptly.
Fun video. Can't wait to visit this place myself. As Epi starts making much better 'copies' of Les Pauls etc what techniques is Gibson using to stop the forgers from modifying the former into the latter? I know they have some kind of microchip system, but I don't know too much about it. (I have an 88 SG, 95 Les Paul Studio, 2013 Firebird, and 2015 Thunderbird).
The joke about the harp-guitar hand carved by Orville Gibson... "Legend has it that this is the guitar that Richie Sambora wrote Wanted Dead Or Alive on" 😂😂😂 Lovely dynamic with these two!
9:02 I had a Cramer (think that’s how it’s spelled) in the mid-seventies with the neck both wood and aircraft aluminum. I hated the feel on my hands sliding up or down the neck. Ugh…
Thanks for the inclusion of Epiphone , my Epiphone Les Paul 1960s Tribute Plus which I have not been able to replace with aGibson USA yet, since I cant find one that sounds as good! This model does come with all USA hardware and electronics though! The primary reason I am a fan of Epiphone to begin with is because of John and George form The Beatles and now I can not wait to get my hands on an Epiphone Geeny!
Boogie is next on my list. DC550 probably, but if i could have anything i'd have the 78'-79' Walnut covered Boogies, one used by my man Jerry Garcia. love the natural wood finish look. but they are expensive!
Beautiful guitars in the vault. I have a 55 small guard Southern Jumbo that has such rich woody mids. A gorgeous sounding guitar that just brings a different vibe than the earlier Martins. I also have a ‘34 small burst L00 that was just born for playing the kind of dirty blues licks that no other model can duplicate. Yeah I’m a bit of a Gibson acoustic fanboy. They are a bit more hit and miss than their more sophisticated Martin brethren. They are a bit more dive bar than microbrew but I love em.
I have one of those satin finished, no binding Gibsons. A 60's Tribute Gold Top with P90s. I think it is one the best sounding, best playing guitars I have. (I have a Standard also). But I see your point about making cheaper Gibson guitars. I will be keen to see what comes out of Epiphone in the future. Hmmm, I do like 335s...........
Well that was indeed interesting. Tbh that garage reminded me of duty free shop areas in Singapore and Japan airports. The acoustics there are just ear splitting after an hour. Too much slapping back room verb from all the concrete/stone surfaces.
I only have 1 Gibson a 2018 Sg custom LE in Pelham Blue. I have 3 other Epiphone SG's and 4 LP's and I myself being a player of only 10 years and still learning I don't see all that much better of a product than the Epiphone's. It could be my being a newbie and not seeing the underlying goodness that a Gibson has over an Epiphone. I LOVE my Epiphones especially my 59' LP standard that has all Gibson Pickup's and a Switchcraft switch. It sounds amazing and feels great it's a Dark burst and it ran me under a grand. I use all Marshall amps and a peddle board but I love the sound of my DSL 100 with only the amp gain. I love Epiphone guitars because they sound and feel great and I can actually afford one. My Gibson ran 1600.00 but I think it was worth the price. I'd love to have a Gibson LP custom but I'll never be able to afford one.
Nice tour; enjoyed that! I'd like to see Epiphone introduce an experimental line of new, innovative guitars not based on old Gibson designs. Wondering if that's even possible for Gibson brands: I mean at least Henry J tried but usually failed because most Gibson buyers don't want anything new or different. When the GenX'ers stop buying nostalgia guitars, the boomers will be mostly out of the market, there will be flood of used Gibsons in the market and the customer base of new Gibsons will be very small. If Gibson doesn't do something for it's future, it will shrink to a small boutique builder in size or disappear; maybe ESP, Yamaha or Ibanez will buy the brand name? 😁
You’re part right and part wrong. Epiphone could introduce modern versions of classic gibson looks and be very successful, in terms of reputation it’s in a much better state than gibson. For anything wilder like headless multiscale “insert radical concept here” I would suggest kramer as a great brand - they after all started with the virtuoso market, and might receive less potential backlash. As for Gibson - with guitar inflation being sky high, wages not catching up, and them making essentially the same guitar every year - it’s hard to see this model building out for them. They are indeed destined to be a custom shop/boutique- but remember, epiphone and the other sub brands are carrying the business, so they don’t really NEED to compete at lower cost instruments. It would save them money to have a leaner shop. This way they can target the ultra wealthy and create an experience for wealthy shoppers, something that the garage does and not many other brands can compete with at this scale. You underestimate our generation and younger generations appreciating classic instruments and instrument style. It’s not just boomers that like to bend - and epiphones sell very well to those that can’t afford gibsons. They will still sell. God knows imm in my twenties and my icons get older each year - some of the old guitarists can REALLY play! (Roy clark deserves a mention) That said I totally agree that there will be a wealth of gibsons coming in used - as the guitar market faces shrinkage in general as less players are born these days sadly - there will be some really good deals. You also underestimate the sheer value of the gibson brands, I’m not sure many other brands COULD buy out gibson in this space - don’t forget, gibson has some standing as a consumer brand too, and has the capability to be slapped on consumer products which adds more value than say Ibanez. There is a LOT of business to speculate on here, but ultimately, gibson make some great guitars, and I can’t see them shrinking enough to be eaten by another brand - especially if they build out their sub brands for other generations to enjoy.
@@Tiptronics I guess we'll see; nothing wrong with doing both traditional and experimental lines with Epiphone at a low cost to see what the market likes, then maybe introduce a new Gibson line for non-traditional designs and specs. I don't underestimate the younger generation, what I said and maybe you missed it, is that there will be real vintage Gibsons for sale as boomers and genX'ers collections hit the market. If the vintage prices drop to close or less than the Gibson custom shop, which would you buy? Cheers, and I appreciate your detailed response!
1:26 'Mr Authentic' 🤣 Love the shot fired - but to be fair Cesar is equal parts Mr Authentic, with Cesar actually taking responsibility.. Yet everyone talks about him like he's gods gift to gibson, totally brushed under the rug.
A LOT of comments seem to be very confused about what Epiphone are doing. Guys, you can still pick up an Epiphone Les Paul standard or an Epiphone SG standard for £500. However, in addition to the 'usual' Epiphone fare they've started to offer a bit more. The models might still be made in China, but depending on the models they now include things like Gibson custom shop pick ups, or switch craft components etc. The luthier I take my guitars to tells me that Epiphone QC at the moment is spot on, and hasn't everyone been moaning about Gibson QC for a few years?! More choice for different budgets can't be a bad thing surely?
Wow, saw a left handed guitar on the moving rail. Which is 1 more Gibson left handed than I ever saw in Andertons. The Guildford shop is a top place to go if you're left handed and just want a black Squier strat, or a dusty Yamaha Pacifica.
@@vigilantebird8675 You should organise a leftie day. Raid the factory, get all the lefties in, and tell people about it! We've got as much money as right handed people, but smaller collections, as you never make any limited editions or fancy colours available... There's a reason why second hand, lefties seem to be fetching premiums that right handed's dont!

Love my Alex Lifeson Epiphone Les Paul. New looking at a ES-335. Epiphone, please make a CS-336!
I live in Nashville and love the garage.
When I went there I got a custom made truss rod cover with my name on it. I love it there.
wonderful video!! in fairness to the more basic gibson models, I have a 2021 LP 50s tribute (honey burst), and it's an excellent guitar; it plays and sounds great. some of the melody makers and very inexpensive Gibsons might not help the brand, but the tributes are very, very good!
This was a nice tour. Great work guys!
Great timing, just sat down to play some guitar and the newest Gibson video is up!
The joke about the harp-guitar hand carved by Orville Gibson... "Legend has it that this is the guitar that Richie Sambora wrote Wanted Dead Or Alive on" 😂😂😂 Lovely dynamic with these two!
nice to see the stuff common people will never own...hope ya have fun!!
9:02 I had a Cramer (think that’s how it’s spelled) in the mid-seventies with the neck both wood and aircraft aluminum. I hated the feel on my hands sliding up or down the neck. Ugh…
Those inspired by Gibson acoustics are just amazing I have a hummingbird in natural its unbelievable sound for £599
Great video guys
Thanks for the inclusion of Epiphone , my Epiphone Les Paul 1960s Tribute Plus which I have not been able to replace with aGibson USA yet, since I cant find one that sounds as good! This model does come with all USA hardware and electronics though! The primary reason I am a fan of Epiphone to begin with is because of John and George form The Beatles and now I can not wait to get my hands on an Epiphone Geeny!
Was there a few months ago. Didn't want to leave. Ever.
Totally ignored "you're good at ledgers, aren't you Lee" hahahaha, brilliant
Loved my trip there. Such a cool place! 🙂
Boogie is next on my list. DC550 probably, but if i could have anything i'd have the 78'-79' Walnut covered Boogies, one used by my man Jerry Garcia. love the natural wood finish look. but they are expensive!
I wish the snakehead Headstock design of Lloyd Loar would be used more. Looks so cool.
15:00 its been 4 years Lee. I bougth the last Fillmore you had in stock
Could you do a evaluation if the innovation on Les Paul and SG have added value or if the original designs still are King?
Bring those Boogie’s to Europe !! Would love myself a California tweed 🎉🎉🎉
That place is soooo awesome
Is the Epihone played at 52:00 actually the gibson headstock or is it elongated?
Are you two going to tour Gibson’s Bozeman, Montana acoustic guitar facility?
Epiphone LPs with a Gibson headstock, that's a game changer. Hope they that become standard on the whole range.
(Roy clark deserves a mention)
That said I totally agree that there will be a wealth of gibsons coming in used - as the guitar market faces shrinkage in general as less players are born these days sadly - there will be some really good deals.
Love how the only visible damage on Mary Ford's SG is from missing the jack when plugging in.
Pete and Lee spread Covid to the whole city of Nashville by touching every item at Gibson garage. lol.
And Rick Nelson has THREE original Explorers, including one with the split headstock. Insane!
“Who pays $400 for a jumper?” “The same people that pay $10,000 for a guitar” 😂😂😂
They're called idiots.
Danish Pete at 2:15 and"I would love to come here and see that when I'm sober"lol I bet you didn't catch it go back and watch. He definitely says it
Unreal video!! You guys are great. Our man Lee needs to work on his listening instead of talking though.
Wow, saw a left handed guitar on the moving rail. Which is 1 more Gibson left handed than I ever saw in Andertons.
The Guildford shop is a top place to go if you're left handed and just want a black Squier strat, or a dusty Yamaha Pacifica.
There’s around 25 here in the Gibson Garage
@@vigilantebird8675 You should organise a leftie day. Raid the factory, get all the lefties in, and tell people about it! We've got as much money as right handed people, but smaller collections, as you never make any limited editions or fancy colours available...
There's a reason why second hand, lefties seem to be fetching premiums that right handed's dont!
Welcome to the States, boys!!
I half expected Pete to say, 'I still prefer me purple Tele' at the end!!
