I really liked Roddenberry Archive's hypothetical render of the Enterprise J where the saucer section was actually just a contained city, making the entire starship more like a spacestation with engines. It makes it feel like it was built for those super long distance missions where it could effectively take a piece of the Federation with it instead of just serving as a representative, which seems fitting for a flagship explorer.

My head canon says she is an extra-galactic colony ship. She was the Federation's last mega-project before it's slow decline and eventual dissolution after the Burn. The ship is huge, and the only reason I can think of to make something that big is if it is meant to support very long range and extended missions. Multi-generational missions. In the 31st Century, I think the Enterprise-J is still sailing through the intergalactic void. When we see her in the battle, it's because there was really no choice in the matter.

For some odd reason, I always really liked the design of this "thing". tt also seems to fit quite nicely into the timeline of DIS (especially given the revelation that Daniels is in fact you know who (and if you don't, I wont spoil it to you)). I loved the Roddenberry archive's info on the Universe class and I even find myself hoping for a future show or short Trek or long Trek set on Enterprise-J. So for me, it'S thumbs up all the way.

I have a hypothetical reason why it can be thin looking and just a fun theory about the ship every crew room is like a Tardis from Doctor Who. Not sure how it fully work it but it could work and to kinda make sense as it’s in the future.

    •  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree, just like the time ship from Jonathan Archers time where the inside was bigger than the outside.. You would figure that time travel was mastery of moving to higher dimensions where time and space have different laws of physics to be used..

I actually always liked the J. It feels genuinely futuristic and built around a blend of alien technologies. Also an interesting approach to scaling up the classic Starfleet ship layout to something on the scale of a warbird or Jem hadar battleship.

it would not be a far stretch. by that time frame, the Federation and the Romulan Republic ( I believe that's cannon?) would finally have been on good terms after long centuries of diplomacy that they could have come to an agreement to help design a new type of ship thats able to go across the Galaxy. though perhaps a more primitive type of warp that now prevalent in the 32nd century (Discovery time frame)

I always thought it was a city ship, used to circumnavigate the galaxy thanks to the discoveries and first contacts that Voyager made. The Enterprise J was used to go and make second contact with these species and bring them into the UFoP. Big enough to have its own Dilithium refinery onboard, it could power itself for as long as it needed to. Defense wise, maybe it had a few Defiant Class ships as defensive equipment along with regular phasers, torpedoes and quantum torpedoes. Also with the help of Future Janeway and the hull armor and what not. The ship really could've been something. I never hated it, it just needed more context to it.

Here's how I like to see it. Star Trek's tiem travel is unexplainable, they've basically done nearly every type possible. Spliting timelines like the Kelvin Timeline, temporal paradoxes like the First Contact movie. Timelines completley rewritten or were about to be rewritten such as the ENterprise-C and ALl Good Things as that future had the Enterprise-D survive, where as Generations saw it half destroyed. So here's my headcanon on the J. I like to see there as being 2 timelines, the Prime Timeline ending at the end of Nemesis and spliting in 2. The Picard Timeline where Data did stay "dead" for some time till the Picard series, this leads to the future where the Burn event happened as that is the 32nd Century. Daniels and Procyon 5 occured in the 31st and the 26th Centuries respectively. A timeline that continues from the timeline of Star Trek Online, where the Khitomer Alliance in time led to greater galactic cooperation and eventually the Federation becomes a galaxy spanning power with most of the ALpha and Beta Quadrants and maybe the other 2 as part of it. I liek to think the Universe Class was created in a time where even Transwarp was outdated, likely allowing exploration of at least a couple galaxies, thus like how the Galaxy class was built as Starfleet's premier glactic exploration ship, or at least intended to be. THe Universe Class as it's name suggests is capable of at least a couple galaxies, thus the most capable for exploring the universe. These ships are huge, powerful, and basically a mobile Starbase, self sustaining and if the STO ship ability to launch Cestus Class Frigates is true, then also able to launch or maybe even produce a small fleet of ships to support it. My guess is the ENterprise-J was the only Universe Class they could spare for Procyon 5, with the STO mision Ragnarok being how it offially played out in the end, but due tot he wierd nature of time travel and the Sphere Builders and their allies, it's a battle they're constantly attempting to change. The expanse seen in the battle isn't the Delphic Expanse, but one they were trying to make near Andoria in the Procyon System. The Temporal Cold War saw allies pulled from many timelines, maybe the Burn future participated to some degree in the Cold War befoe the Burn occured. At least they pulled in allies in Temporal Agents recruited from STO, thus the TNG era ships seen in the background. Maybe Daniels likely lied to Archer about protecting the timeline, hard to make sense of the quantum mechanics behind Star Trek's time travel. But very likely the Temporal Cold War wasn't about preserving the future, but about preventing reckless groups from just using it to thier own whim, such as he Krenim restoring their empire, or the Nak'hul their star, or the Sphere Builders whatever they were looking to do. Cause then there'd be no end to the abuse of time travel.

See this is why i feel like this was a perfect era for Discovery to jump to. The reason why we see so many old classes during the battle was because things were so desperate that starfleet was literally using whatever ships they could find.
And we don't really know what state the federation was in during the time, either. The sphere builders couldn't totally wrecked the quadrant and Discovery could've found a broken, fragmented starfleet just struggling to survive.
Would've been a lot more believable than the entire galaxy suddenly running short of dilithium, then having what was left suddenly blow up.

Like you said Lieutenant (apologies if I misspelled or mispronounced that) Commander Adam, the only thing we know about this ship is its size and commander. Everything else: Build date, launching/commissioning, facilities, crew number, years of service, warp speed. Etc. All of it is unknown.

Enterprise I is a Buck Roger's in the 25th century ship with warp nercelles
Then Enterprise J, with all its concept sketches to flesh out the century Starfleet ships. Along with Halo ships as a rival military
The 26th century, the Enterprise O would be a Starfleet/Mass Effect hybrid
The 29th century Enterprise T, would be like an Enterprise looking timeship
In the 31st century, for fun, make the Enterprise W would be a Futurama/Starfleet ship design
The Enterprise Z should be a cross between USS Discovery A and The Starship Andromeda Ascended

I don't like or hate the Enterprise J. I must however disagree on one thing. If what most scientists say is true, it is impossible to change/erase future. You can however create paralel realities (alt dimensions, other timelines etc.) when you attempt to change something. Therefore in my opinion there still exists a reality where Enterprise J exists. (I know that technicaly Daniels showed Archer how everything is being reversed , but come on. You can't just erase a reality. If that was possible then why no one tried that with the mirror universe. That would've solved plenty of problems.)

Great video Adam. Loved your humor thrown in there about the J and the design of it.
The J has slowly grown on me over the years to where I really do like it a lot now. It definitely is the most unique Starfleet ship to date.
I think with it being a Universe class and it would obviously explore other galaxies...that means it probably had either a Quantum Slipstream Drive or something even faster. I mean after all traveling between galaxies required something faster than your usual transwarp drive or warp drive.
Who knows about its weapons. I'm sure it had the typical weapons of that time period. Whatever those were...dunno. I'd like to think they would have primary and secondary shields like the Scimitar did. Maybe by that time the Krenim and Starfleet were allies and probably had chroniton torpedoes. Or if they weren't allies with the Krenim, Starfleet could have easily made their own by the 29th Century.
A rap battle between Daniel Jackson and Agent Daniels...LOL that would honestly be hilarious to watch most likely.
Umm....series finale for Discovery the Enterprise is mentioned by a certain character. Won't say who in case anyone here hasn't seen it. I WISHED we could have seen a 32nd Century Enterprise. Would it have been the Enterprise-J? I dunno a Federation ship in service for 30 years is I guess a stretch. Never mind that the original Enterprise was 20 years old when she was destroyed.
I as well would love to see a video of Doug Drexler teaming up with you guys for a video. I posted on Doug's Facebook page and linked him to this video so he could see it.

I'm with you on the intergalactic exploration idea. It would be perfectly suited to that, considering it's size.
Lifespan however... while you're right on screen, the TNG manual gives the Galaxy class a 100-year expected lifetime (including 4 major refit / upgrades.) Drama doesn't always make that possible I guess! 😂

Would actually travel to other galaxies
The Z would have elements from the Andromeda Ascended

You need a shuttle craft to use Discovery's turbo lift structure. 😒 Sometimes this time travel gig ends up being more story filler than sense. 🙃 The J is pretty much a community ship much like a Macross concept I suppose. 🤔 As for folding space. Seems a two mile ship is redundant to explore if you have the ability to "poof" from one place to another. 😄

The Enterprise was so flat because it was totally crewed by AI and no lifeforms were on board. That is my guess, if it was truly that advanced, it was drone.

It's past time to retire the 1701 registry.
For starters, it's silly to have an Enterprise J, or O, or even W. Would Starfleet REALLY go through the alphabet?
Secondly, Starfleeet really needs to get its collective act together. After the G debacle I'm starting to believe that Enterprise needs to not be the flagship anymore and that the 1701 registry shpould be retired. Six versions are enough.
Navies change flagships all the time, and registry numbers change. It's time Starfleet evolve.

Since a universal translation matrix would adapt to each life forms needs to be seamless the AI it has could dumb down any future speak to any time period and each life form would get their own optimal translation including time and slangs.. Would it also compensate for the facial movements of the speech in a holographic mask like current deep fakes do??
