- The International Model Car Builders Museum in Salt Lake City is a collection of built automotive kits and associated items. The brain child of Mark Gustavson, the Museum is sort of a spin off of the GSL, International Model car Championship which is held in Salt Lake every other year. Check out Don Emmons Parnelli Jones cars.

Building model cars is a lot of fun! I built them.. Then used the left-over parts to build dune buggies and rat rods! The young folks today, need to discover this fun hobby.. Before it disappears some day
It’s very cool to hear from people who were born in the 1950s and 60s with all the models and trains and technology at the time I find this very interesting and enjoyable
What a fad!! Plastic models as the "video games" of their time. Build models or be square. Heck, I'll bet some kids got beat up on the playground for not custom painting. Or not.......
WOW! Years ago Don Emmons came to my house in Maui Hawaii and I helped him do detailing articles for Custom Rodder magazine, I am proud to know Don on a personal level.
The GSL and the museum are the last thing on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing.

I have a fantasy that if I ever won the Pa. Power ball, I would convert my home into a Model museum .I would build multiple additions on my home,going up and out. Remove all interior walls ,and install glass display cases. All models would have tags with the builder, and where they live. It would be categories. Downstairs, ALL cars,and trucks. Upstairs, military models/ Diorama's. I would also have a misc. room. Think BIG , RIGHT ?

I would like to know where this museum is at ? I live in salt lake City. I have endured in one a lot of model contests here .. University of Utah had a car show and a model contest. I got first place in five categories. Kind of felt bad bringing home all the hardware. I still have most of my models. I might consider donating them so other people would appreciate the craftsmanship. Kids nowadays don't really appreciate it. They're more interested in hitting the restart button. Lol . Hi. You are in luck! The GSL Model car championship is in a few weeks. The GSL (Greater Salt Lake) is the premier Model car championship. People come from all over the world to this mostly unknown contest every two years. Google it. They run the museum too as is on their web site. I have several videos and another channel just for the GSL. May 2-5. www.gslchampionship.org
They only open the museum by appointment but it’s open as part of the contest.
