Joe is my friend. They've started the band with two guitarists for near 10 years. They have been through so many guitarists when Joe realized he could record all the other harmony parts and run it through pro tools live. He invested $4,000 of his hard earned money into the recording rig that runs through the PA just to pull that off. It sounds damn good live and i dont see many other bands pulling that off with one guitarist. On another note, second guess your busch league comments.
It's called Auxiliary backing samples. Everybody from Periphery to Meshuggah uses them. And when your sick of going through rhythm guitarists and you have the knowledge and talent to do it all yourself, this set up is what you do. Maybe if you played in a big band and understood the music industry you would understand that you have to make changes and compromises.
Well I think certain parts are backtracked, like when its filtered. The harmonies could be a backing track, but I noticed the Axe FX in the background. It has the capabilities to harmonize whatever notes he plays as long as its in key, so he could be using that instead, but it sounds more like a backing track.
It's all about the wah-pedal, whammy effect and the Axe FX's harmonizer, as he explains at the beginning of his play-through. Who cares about another guitarplayer when one has that rig? /watch?v=TCSrK81zDec
I would like to see you try to play this kind of music without a backtrack of some sort? clearly he's still playing the main part so that's what matters.
They used to when they had 2 guitarists. My band opened up for them whenever they came to michigan in the early 2010's and joe used to trigger all the bass drops and backing tracks using a looper
Again, I understand your sentiment. However, recording and live performance are two different arts. Live stage performance in drama moved to motion picture with the advent of technology in the early 20th century. For example, it seems absurd that you would limit film production based on only what live stage actors could replicate. Two separate arts. You get CDs/Mp3s to enjoy, and you get to see the creators live, demonstrate the way they jam and write/record/perform their art.
For one, they only have one guitarist. One guitarist can't play two parts at once. Plus, at a concert, you can mosh. Can't do that in your living room. I saw these guys in concert, and they were fucking incredible. This recording seems to lose some of that. If you were actually there in the room at the time of the recording, you would understand.
Well, I understand how you feel. But id imagine it saves a lot of resources not having a 5th member/mouth to feed. It sounds great, and Im sure being there in person its not as much of a bummer.
No doubt it sounds sick live, but then again I'm going to see a band play live not wath them play along to pre recorded rhythm that's louder than what's coming out of his amp, right?
this isn't a looper or an axe fx harmonizer or anything like that. gotta be backing tracks. Born of Osiris does this with the second guitar track now as well. kinda lame, but the easiest way to do it these days
There’s always one. One time I saw between the buried and me live and the crowd was clapping out of time and tommy stopped and said you guys are fucking me up with this clapping.
It makes for a good show, especially since theres only one guitar player. plus it makes it so you recreate the track the same way every time just like it is on the record. Very important to have all the same effects on stage as they are on the record.
i dont think people realize how good these guys are
Yeah ... the drumming ... spot on to a metro during a live show. I know for 150% that most bands can not accomplish this same feat.
Johnny Nonny im playing a show with them December 19th

Second guess/bush* league comment here, it's harder to play with someone else than yourself... lol
Don't get me wrong though. I love Within the Ruins.
Hey cameraman..... THANK YOU for zooming in on Joe while he shreds!!
Holy fuck these guys are flawless. I remember seeing them two years ago. Still just as good.
Just found these guys. Love it!!!
From Spain, Bcn, maximum respect!!!
I remember this.
Fuck yes seeing these guys in like a week. its gonna be so badass!
I wanna be there.

Man, those leads are so smooth
Them tones!
New album slaps!

I'm the guy taking pictures on stage!!!
I thought that was you guys in the balcony!

Fucking awesome!
damn his hi-hat is too low, he can barely move his snare hand.. but he's still a fucking great drummer! I love this band so much!
2021?
I think that they use the other studio guitar track for lives :)
your picture is veil of mayas eclipse and you are questioning one guitar. sir id say you are silly.
Within The Ruins style, that's how ;)
Man that Acacia Custom looks so freaking awesome

He has harmonizer and other effects triggered via MIDI from his axe-fx.
harmonizer and backing tracks
SHIT! I totally missed this show.. fucking sad face :(

effects and backing track

Did their bassist tour with Oceano?
lol
THIS SIDE IS WINNING!
LLLAAAWWD do I miss Tim’s vocals😢
clean as fuck
Bro how do they get the harmonys with one guitar?
There is a back track playing the other guitar
Backing tracks.
No doubt it sounds sick live, but then again I'm going to see a band play live not wath them play along to pre recorded rhythm that's louder than what's coming out of his amp, right?
just saw them live, they are a super tight band only to realize the guitar is piped into the pa. fuckin busch league
one guitar!!!!
How???????????
Is it just me or does Joe look like Ken Susi?
listen to rings of saturn
Lol'd at all the backing tracks
They have one guitarist, your comment is rediculous
Cuyler Trapp
What happend to the second guitarist?
Schnauze Man
and btw what ever happened to sincerety
Backing track, mate.
Dudes snare is at his ankles
Another guy offstage playing (a common trick used by a lot of metal bands) or there's just another track playing.
You think having a guy offstage playing Is a common trick used by a lot of metal bands? lollll
lots of backing tracks
backingtrack
The other guitar is on a back track
Would be so much more impressive if they had another guitarist. Doesn't feel like a live show when recordings are being played to fill in the gaps. :(
However, they sounded so much better live when Jay was in the band.
He has a prerecorded guitar track running in the back
Actually it's a pre-recorded track (aka backing track)
Backtracking the second guitar part.
The drummmer is playing so low idk how fuck anyone can play like that!!
He's not even fucking playing, it's all backing track. And let the hate spam come....
haha the blond guy off time heasdbanging during the solo
this isn't a looper or an axe fx harmonizer or anything like that. gotta be backing tracks. Born of Osiris does this with the second guitar track now as well. kinda lame, but the easiest way to do it these days
better question is WHY
..its all done with mirrors
jules left bro.
Pre-amping
Not my point, don't call people lazy. You don't know them.
2"40' Guy with no rythm...
There’s always one. One time I saw between the buried and me live and the crowd was clapping out of time and tommy stopped and said you guys are fucking me up with this clapping.
Crowd is so dead
except for that one side
I LOVE their harmony work, but they should definitely get a second guitarist. that would be fucking epic!
Fuuuiiick
ugh... backing tracks..
Preamping is now a new standard, get used to it. If it sounds as flawless as this and if you have the mental intellect to set it up, why the fuck not?
all the guitars are backtracked, even what he's playing. you can even see spots where he stops playing and still hear it
The drummer looks like he had no idea what he's doing.
The drummer?? haha his nickname actually is "drummer"
In some interviews, he'll often say he plays in a "goofy" position just because that's what he feels in natural to him.
Good performance but that backing track is annoying.
How so? Gonna cancel shows just because another guitarist can't show up? I wouldn't piss people off. Fans are fans home skizzle.
I'm not saying they should cabcel, not at all. I just don't like backing tracks Johnny Nonny
*Cancel
