Joe cocchi is the best guitarist IMO I know that’s prob a stretch but I’ve never heard anyone create like this. His brain works in such an odd way. The way he writes is hard to grasp
His guitar is a 27.5" baritone so it allows him to tune low no problem. When he used to use 25.5" scale guitars he use 70 54 36 24 18 15 strings. On his current guitar he probably dropped down a few gauges for the same feel.
I like that your not miming over the audio of the song like everyone else is doing I truly appreciate the honesty off of this video and you did an insane job you played tight and clean and your music is the most badass and original music that i have heard in awhile
It's stupid how talented you are dude. Need more people playing like you! Gotta say something... This is the first time I hear someone play the solos like you do, very nicely done! Cheers from Sweden.
The older albums were in G# and this albums in G. You can tell by listening to the open E string being a semi tone lower in this song than on previous ones :) peace
Everytime I watch someone play like this, and their insanely clean and perfect with their playing, I feel like I can go and play it too. But then I try to.
There are advantages to using an 8 string other than what you think. for 1 more wood in the neck for better sound transfer, 2 a bass string is added instead of a large gauge guitar string, and being able to do slap style, percussive rhythms and leads which is some stuff that can't be done on a 6 and 7 string comfortably. Personally I prefer 7-strings but there are more to 8-strings than one would think.
Love this, fuck I have been a huge fans the moment I heard you guys a few years ago, not sure how I did but glad I did, definitely helped me as a guitarist!
You can go pretty low on a 25.5" scale with the right string gauge, but then again you would have to file the nut down to comfortably accommodate such thick strings.
Finally a guitarist that doesn't get an 8 string to play low notes. If you are not going to use the high treble strings then going with a baritone 6 or 7 string guitar is the perfect way to go. We are not all Tosin Abasi.
They play in Drop G, correct? If so, what size of strings do they use? I assume they wouldn't be able to fit comfortably on a 25.5" scale guitar like mine.
+Ethan Campbell looks quite a bit like a mesa carbine (bass amp), maybe an older model without the purple standby light. Also looks like the cab to the far left is a bass cab, so it's possible he's bi-amping with both a guitar and bass amp.
Andrew Padilla its called a rake, you turn, your pic sideways and slide it across the top,of,the strings on the harmonics and,it,makes a "pac man noise" he,does that with a reverb and delay is what it sounds like
It's a variation of a rake. The easiest way to get the sound (in my opinion) is to put your ring finger over the 3rd fret (as if you're gonna hit a natural harmonic) and scrape the strings with the side of your pick, going from high string to low, and while doing it, curving your left ring finger while doing it.
One of the most underrated genius guitar players in metal.

5 years later and im watching this. this is what a play-though should sound like! raw and real! love it.
Amen it should sound like a play through not a album
10 years now…
A real playthough, unlike all the guitarists now that just use the audio from the song. Well played sir.
sounds like classical music, but with chugs
Prospective that’s what metal is
@@kernelxsandersno.
I could really just sit here and listen to all of WTR songs as instrumentals and they would still be fucking amazing.
Djent without vocals = god level music , Djent with vocals = trash
One of my favourite guitarists at the moment

I love their sound. One of a kind

+Martin Vegh this is awesome live bro without edit or sync
I've watched this like 20 times and just realized it's instrumental. Kinda shows how much focus is on this bands guitars even when they have vocals.
lol I forgot about vocals until I read this comment🤣
wish I could write as good as this guy
Oh god the compressor pumping in the video's audio! Too much. Great playing, love you guys.
Please do play through of more of your songs.
Glad to see an actual playthrough here, instead of all the times people do "playthroughs" when all they have is the song playing in the background
Loving the new album. Great stuff.
Oh my god they had a 6 strings guitar back than ? ..good times
*back in my day...*
it’s a 7 string
Awesome! I love the whole new album and this Guitarwork is insane! They don't need a second guitarist!
sick guitar and great playing. what else could i ask for!
OMFG These guys are coming to my hometown of ABILENE, TX! Finally an amazing metal show!
Insane
this album is brillant!
brilliant

Amazing!

The great ones always make it look easy.
such a great album
A real playthough!!!! some love from Brasil. \o/
love ur writing style

Acacia guitars
Brad Bolser
Thanks!
Oh Hank, you crack me up.
Love this, fuck I have been a huge fans the moment I heard you guys a few years ago, not sure how I did but glad I did, definitely helped me as a guitarist!

Dude is high as fuck XD sick band. Fuckin love the acacia custom
sick riffs

That left hand looks like a spider wrapping its pray :O
ive said this before and i will say this again....highly underrated guitar player right here
So stoned. Powerful Joe
Hey dude this is way better than the old playthroughs. Please mention cola, SC to your tour manager
I could watch him all day :3
This sounds so fucking amazing instrumental!
Is that crazy effect near the beginning from a digitech whammy de-tuner pedal?
i would have to agree. i would enjoy that alot
So badass, Joe, I love it. You're one of my favorite players. SIGN MY GUITAR AND TRANSFER UNTO ME YOUR MIGHTY POWERS OF RIFFAGE !!!
I like this band and everything bit I can't help but read their name as Within the Urins
Finally a guitarist that doesn't get an 8 string to play low notes. If you are not going to use the high treble strings then going with a baritone 6 or 7 string guitar is the perfect way to go. We are not all Tosin Abasi.
joe said that he is either planning to write a digital tab book or he is at the moment.
Sick af!! Is your hand stretching 7 frets??
They play in Drop G, correct? If so, what size of strings do they use? I assume they wouldn't be able to fit comfortably on a 25.5" scale guitar like mine.
love this song so much i transposed it on my 7 in BOO tuning. dayummm
Well, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he played in Drop E on a few songs, maybe one, but yeah, I got it, thanks dude ;)
What cab is that? Mesa 4x12 straight... (recto, stiletto?) Never seen one with that color cloth either. Looks and sounds deadly..
What speakers did you guys use for this vid?!?!? Freaking mint!
Tone is AMMMMAAAZZZZIIINNNNNNNGGGGG
What is at the bottom of the axe fx rack?
KILLER !!!
So true the only band I know in which it's this true
These speakers make the bass drum sound so nice
Great cover, man! :DDDD
***** You can't get the joke. do you. -. -
Can we please get an Ataxia II playthrough?
anyone know what setting he uses on the whammy?
1:30 that's where I lost my shit when I first heard this song. So f***** good
what strings does he use
(gauge)
I so wish I could play this
where are the two boxes and mic in front the mesa amp?
also, anyone know if this song is in drop g# or drop e? i know it's one of those two, just don't know which.
Damn, dropped G huh. What gauge strings do you use? 60's? Still, it sounds awesome
yes it is.
Anyone know what size strings he's using?
anyone know what's under the mesa power amp in his rack? some kind of EQ?
+Ethan Campbell It's another power amp of some kind
+Ethan Campbell looks quite a bit like a mesa carbine (bass amp), maybe an older model without the purple standby light. Also looks like the cab to the far left is a bass cab, so it's possible he's bi-amping with both a guitar and bass amp.
I think you might actually be right! good eye, man lol
Not only are the strings nice and heavy but all of his signature guitars have like some crazy 27 and a half inch scale. They're all baritone.
whats the gauge of those strings? did u have to replace the nut to tune so low?
is this a mesa rectifier 4x12 cab?
What's the technique at 2:47? Some sort of sweep variation?
Harmonic scrape? Don't think there is an an actual name for it, so I just made one up lol.
From what it looks like he's just picking all the open strings while palm muting them and he switched on a delay
It's a natural harmonic scrape. Just google "natural harmonic" and there ya go. Take that technique and scrape it across several strings.
What a badass.
I read somewhere you used a line 6 hd500 on this album, is that true???
oh thanks i didnt know that so ongly one song is in drop e? holy war?
That kick makes everything cry
I need an instrumental version of the album so bad.
Why is this unlisted?
I Absofuckinglutely agree Razatti Mysic
Of course man, my comment was for another video, this is my favorite guitarist too! Sorry for the trouble
they have some song in drop e?
Is this in drop G? or G#? I cant tell.
Killer!
Where did you find this out?
awesome! \m/
FUGG YES!
Anybody got tabs??
what tuning is he playin in
Does he use the Wah pedal for the telephone effect??
check out a band called Immerse (youtube user sweeno777 has some stuff) - their guitars are incredibly tech and they have vocals over the top too
Is he toe-flicking a loose Wah to create that fluttery effect or is that something built into the model?
axe fx 2 preset ??? :D
jaysus! are you by any chance giving guitar lessons? :D
what tuning?
it would be cool! Thanks Joe, I increased my ability to play guitar
this dude is fucking sick, respect!
