The most amazing thing other than the music itself is this.. just imagine the number and frequency of calculations that have to be going through his brain as he plays these songs. You have to remember the progression of the notes, the speed at which they are played, the location on the fretboard, the specific string to manipulate with the other hand and the coordination between the two and at those speeds.. it has to be mostly muscle memory at that point. The raw talent, skill, and dedication to his craft is why he is so good. My fingers bleed at the mere thought of the hours of work he must have put in to achieve this level of performance.
You are so right!! As a 17 year old guitarist that's been playing since I was twelve, I have tried and tried to play this song and let me tell you, it is freaking insane!!! The main riff is easy, anybody can do that, but once you get to the meat of the song, there's only a select few that have mastered it.
He doesn't play it the same way every time though. When he plays live he does a lot of improv with different runs and fills in his songs so it sounds unique. He keeps to each song's general structure and sound but he just shreds any which way he feels like.
Bringing home the Bucket!! Finally, someone reacts to this legendary performer. There are no radio hits, just years of acclaim from practically every famous guitarist, and his tens of thousands of fans. He has been doing this for decades. Thank you so much for this one!!
I have seen him live a few times. I stood in front of him and closed my eyes for a few minutes taking in the music. When I opened my eyes that mask was looking right down at me, like he was watching me take it all in and was focused on me. I looked at his foot and pointed my head down. He pushed his wah pedal. I did it a few more times, and he incorporated those head movements into wah pedal pushes as he played his solo. Also, he hands out toys during the show and dances with nunchucks. He also plays a pretty good slap bass.
Now if you want to hear a guitar solo that will make you weep pleeeeeeaaasseee react to Maggot Brain by Funkadelic - Eddie Hazel...just sit back and feel it..
Talk about a short lived mix of talent. Sadly when that much energy is in one spot it doesn't last long., Thanks for reminding me of a deep cut into music history.
Brian Carroll. He played in Guns n Rose's for a bit. Was in another band early on Called Deli Creeps. Played with Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell. Also Les Claypool of Primus. Now he writes a lot of music himself. Albums called "Pikes". Close to 300 of them. Gives out toys to fans at his shows. I saw him twice. Unbelievable talent and good person. He tours by himself with music in the background and he plays guitar over it. Great musician who also plays killer slap bass and plays banjo also. Also shows his skills with the nunchucks like a champ! On stage!
Saw him in 2019 and was blown away. I check every couple weeks if he’s on tour anywhere in a 200 mile radius. It’s a show you don’t want to miss if you love music.
So it’s long but you need to listen to Pike 65 “Hold Me Forever” in its entirety, it’s labeled as different songs but it’s one 27 minute guitar solo that he wrote after his mom passed that basically progresses through his grief. You can feel the emotions from the guitar. It’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen written that no one knows.
Buckethead is the real deal he has music for all. Really everyone should check out Brian’s work it is a masterpiece and has something for everyone it’s music speaks for it self gives you that good feeling inside without having to sing one word. But the guitar speaks every word this mans passion is for music is awesome thanks Buckethead!
Brian Patrick Carroll, known professionally as Buckethead, is an American guitarist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He has received critical acclaim for his innovative electric guitar playing. His music spans several genres, including progressive metal, funk, blues, bluegrass, ambient, and avant-garde music.
YES!!❤️ My absolute favorite artist. Thanks for your reaction. No vocals. Brian Carroll. Definately one of a kind. He has a vast collection of music (pikes) Check em out!
Behind Buckethead is a man with a fantastic gift that he is happy to share with us, but he also wants to retain his privacy. So please respect that and accept his name as 'Buckethead'. That's all we need to know to enjoy his great skills. We shouldn't need to see his face to get the emotion, a real musician like this can get it all out through his instrument.
Buckethead played at a party here in Kansas city a few summers ago. At "On the Hill". Awesome place some friends have that holds a benefit for autism 3xa year.
'He ain't goin' sing or nuttin', right?' Hahaha. As a long-time Buckethead fan, as someone who has never looked at music the same way again after coming across Buckethead and as someone who is very familiar with the majority of his material, it's super awesome to watch someone who is completely unfamiliar with Buckethead to 'wonder if he's going to sing or not'. I loved that reaction :)

As of his 317th solo studio album (not counting the remixed versions) and his 288th (technically 286th as 285-6 sit yet unreleased) album in the Pikes series, Liminal Monorail, his total solo studio album running time is approximately 168 hours, 5 minutes, 59 seconds
Oh man. If you're headed down the Buckethead black hole, be sure to check out the Deli Creeps. Their live video of Binge and Grab got me hooked on BH Also Buckethead's name is Brian Carroll. He gave a great interview a couple of years back where he spoke pretty candidly about Buckethead, his life, and his health issues for the first time. I recommend checking it out, as well as as much of his music as you can.
He also does a song with Serge from System of a Down called we are one, its great. Another favorite of mine (gym playlist status) is Jump man he got Bootsy Collins from Pfunk on that one
Brian Carroll, A.K.A. Buckethead, is a phenom! Is from Cali and is around 50 years old by now. With nearly 500 albums under his belt and still counting!
I saw this come up and clicked on it so quick !! It's about time !!!!! 🎶edit: his name is Brian Carroll and the stretch ( from his first finger to his pinky finger) is absurd !!!!
I saw Buckethead live in Burlington Vt years ago in a small place called Higher Ground... I got to see those long fingers perform in a blur up close... incredible isn't even close to describing this man's ability with a guitar...I read that Rolling Stone placed him at #8 out of the top 100 best guitarists in the world... Soothsayer is probably my favorite song that he does... you need to "experience" the studio version
Tyvm for this reaction, buckethead is definitely underrated, he played for guns and roses briefly but is way better solo. Jordan is probably his best song.....next to soothsayer
Very good review...and just the reaction video i was looking for.....Appreciating what Buckethead can do as a master guitarist. The man can play...and actually has approximately 382 musical pieces in his catalog....and I love the anonymity...although I believe the mask may have something to do with possible stage fright....but with the mask being worn, it allows/forces the audience to watch his fingers and listen to the music and how it is being played......Dude is bad-ass.....and I've only discovered him like 3 months ago....In my humble opinion, he should be selling out arenas all over the world.
Buckethead came out and played with Primus(which is weird bc you mentioned them) when I saw them in Dallas back in the day. It was during their set at the Family Values Tour at Reunion Arena. Wow, that was over 20 years ago....
The "mic" up front was an audience member recording the audio. He, like many "jam bands" allow the recording and trading of their concerts, so long as you aren't selling them for profit. You don't have to react, but take the time to put on one of his full concerts sometime, so you can catch the nun chuck portion of the show.
Buckethead is God ~ Now prepare yourself to go down the rabbit hole of his incredible amount of material. Checkout the songs "Reaching", "Glacier", & Aunt Suzie & you will become one with this universe my brother!
The brothers name is Brian Carroll ,he study guitar since he was a kid,he was on aband call Dely creeps than he went solo and once slash step out of guns and roses he took his place than he went solo again he got more than 200 albuns and colaborates with a lot of great artist,he made a mortal combat song and power rangers so we being lostenig to him with out even realizing ...thanks to react to this video man we love u bro
It's worth pointing out that Bucket never plays any of his songs in exactly the same way, there is always some improv here and there. So if you listen to any other version of Soothsayer, it will sound pretty different to this one.

No preservatives. No additives. No fillers. No bi-products. That Bucket is chock full of a sheer Virtuoso of True Pure Talent.
He's like Joe Satriani with a bucket and a mask! Something tells me that the reason for the bucket and mask is anxiety in front of a crowd. He feels like he doesn't have to worry about all of that with his mask and bucket. Some people can do amazing things when they don't feel outside pressure
Listen to his interview from last year with a psychiatrist. He talks about why he wears his bucket and mask..just search "buckethead interview" on TH-cam
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is buckethead, imma have to recommend Jowels from his monsters and robots album seeing how I've had that song stuck in my head for the past month.
His Les Paul is a one off built just for him..it's 25% bigger than a regular. A standard looks like Les Paul Jr. In his hands. A Jr. Looks like a ukelele. Lol
He likely suffers from marfan syndrome, which is a neurological disorder characterized by the sufferer being very tall and thin and having extra long extremities, normally the fingers. All of which Bucket has. He also has a very severe heart condition, that almost forced him to retire around 2016. Another thing associated with the syndrome.
@@smward87 he does have some degenerative diasese, unfortunatley it will take him someday, he is trying to get out as much music as he can while he can
Can't believe no one here mentioned "the vein"... The vein in the back of his picking hand is extremely large, and the one sure tell-tale sign it's Brian Carroll under the bucket.
My guy pulls up his pants halfway through a fat riff and doesn't miss a chord.... Them long skeletal fingers and his inane musical gift. This guy is a wonder in the music scene.
He was born in a coop, raised in a cage
Children fear him, critics rage
He's half alive, he's half dead

@@benjaminsmith6674 it was probably taken down4 copyright infringement. I'm pretty sure Rick has had problems w/ some of his videos disappearing b/c youtube is censoring everything, unless you're a transgender, babykilling communist, theyve no user4 u!!
Saw Buckethead for the first time 2 years ago. One of if not the greatest performances I’ve ever seen. So good I saw him four more nights that week😂
Welcome to a pure genius..this man is a true treasure.
Vadershake Agreed!!! May I suggest “Maggot Brain” again!!! The original Eddie Hazel version is killer .... especially listening in the dark
Talk about a short lived mix of talent. Sadly when that much energy is in one spot it doesn't last long., Thanks for reminding me of a deep cut into music history.
Eddie Hazel one of the greatest. That song was cut in one take amazing
Rumor was that George Clinton told him his mother died before he played the track...
@@t20sgrunt36 - I think it was Clinton said play it like he just heard his mother died and later found out she was still alive.
I saw Buckethead 3x in Colorado USA and yes He Absolutely Shredded it like Crazy..... He's a Master Musician and a Great Guitarist, 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
On stage!
i love how correct your prediction was at the start, "looks like he about to be shreddin like crazy"
Big B is my all time fave! I've had the absolute pleasure of witnessing him live twice at the Park West in Chicago … amazing.
"I hope that guitar was 18" 😂
Every song.... no matter how remote. There you are. Thank you. You're input is flawless! You always choose the best in music. Im definitely a fan.!
This version is nothing but
EPIC 🙏🇺🇸
this song gives me goosebumps still! like the first time you hear it, every time!
He played lead guitar for Guns n Roses foe a few years in the early 2000s. His name is Brian Carroll.
What I've just heard ..Man, so amazing! Just met my soul.
He created a new picking style, has tons of albums and all can be purchased super cheap because he never sold out.
"Siege Engine" from his album "Albino Slug" is another great song.
Yeah Buckethead has countless great songs
Brian Patrick Carroll, known professionally as Buckethead, is an American guitarist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He has received critical acclaim for his innovative electric guitar playing. His music spans several genres, including progressive metal, funk, blues, bluegrass, ambient, and avant-garde music.
Oh hell yeah. About damn time!!
Soothsayer is a gateway drug to Buckethead's music. 4 years in, and I still can't get enough. :)
His name is Brian Carroll. 50 yo born in Huntington Beach
False. His name is Buckethead. First name Buckethead. Last name .
It's obviously a robot, man.
Thats purely rumor Stebbi. Us mere mortals can only speculate at this point.
You’re confusing him with some guy named Brian lol
He is Obviously a 6.5 ft tall robot chicken proficient at Kung Fu and a mastery of the Guitar.
Buckethead played at a party here in Kansas city a few summers ago. At "On the Hill". Awesome place some friends have that holds a benefit for autism 3xa year.
Getting to the real stuff now!
I’ve also heard he’ll hit up the local CVS, or Target and buy a bunch of cheap toys to give out to his fans at his shows.

Oh man. If you're headed down the Buckethead black hole, be sure to check out the Deli Creeps. Their live video of Binge and Grab got me hooked on BH
Also Buckethead's name is Brian Carroll. He gave a great interview a couple of years back where he spoke pretty candidly about Buckethead, his life, and his health issues for the first time. I recommend checking it out, as well as as much of his music as you can.
Undoubtedly made with mad energy and feeling ...... it’s like you know what he’s saying through a guitar ...... insane . Mad props !
I like the live version of "Whitewash" a whole lot. "Nottingham Forest" is also cool. Lots of good stuff from him.
Whitewash Live is incredible
Isn't it Nottingham lace?
@@crimsonclover8314 It is
Seeing Buckethead live for the first time will change your outlook as a guitarist.
Jamal: Who's behind the mask?
Everyone: Folks just call him Buckethead.
Ahhh, Buckethead. That rabbit hole is a deep and interesting one indeed. Such a great guitarist.
Do Young Buckethead playing in his back yard when he was 17. AMAZING!!
Yes!
So glad you did this video! Buckethead is the man!
You need to react to Buckethead - Jordan Live
more buckethead please. and yes there is meaning behind everything he does, he's a fascinating character :D
His name is Brian Carroll and there's an interview with him here on the tube.
It was a joy watching your face melt throughout the entire song.
If they were to remake crossroads today, he'd be the devil's guitarist
chainframe yup and Ralph Maccio (sp?) would be screwed, cause no one's beating Buckethead in a duel lol
@@ShadDennis Buckethead isn't gonna be the idiot who uses his 3 most unbeatable licks before the contest really even starts
Him and Les Claypool together is a lot of musical fun !
Enjoy watching your vids. Buckethead is great! He's got some songs with Les Claypool from Primus you should check out.
Buckethead is God ~ Now prepare yourself to go down the rabbit hole of his incredible amount of material. Checkout the songs "Reaching", "Glacier", & Aunt Suzie & you will become one with this universe my brother!
He's a Terminator built by Skynet sent back to terminate that guitar....
He does not sing but he can play just about any type of music on that guitar.
Or banjo. He's a better bass slapper than Flea, probably.
He has one song called danyel where he sings. Its a love song about a porn star cause he's a classic troll lol
@@lukearnoldinstrumentals he wrote the song after she was murdered thats why he wrote the song
Glad that you did this Vid in particular.....Allo from Winnipeg.....
Great to see you discover Buckethead. I found him 5 or 6 years ago, and he's at least 50 percent of what I listen to. Well...maybe more:)
Buckethead “Final Wars” is a good one as well
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is buckethead, imma have to recommend Jowels from his monsters and robots album seeing how I've had that song stuck in my head for the past month.
"What's his name?"
His name is Buckethead. And he plays the guitar.
Truth
buckethead is my idol and my top 5 fav guitarist of all time i some times like to play like him i play on eb standard alot
🤪
I like his smoother albums. The kind you sit back and close your eyes to.
Ya know what I mean
'Bout time, dude. Go down the rabbit hole. You'll never be the same.
6'6 without the bucket. can prob tell by his long fingers.
