April 1975 I was a tiny 17 year old girl who with the aid of her platform shoes, managed to get on stage at Leeds Town Hall. Steve put his arm round me and sang “oh dear, look what they’ve done to the blues .. blue … blues” and kissed me on the cheek before the bouncers dragged me off. Memories don’t come much better than this ❤️ ❤️❤️

Steve Harley. What a trooper. Performed almost to the end. Once in a generation a genius pops up. 1970S and beyond. No fan could forget Sebastian ,tumbling down ,riding the waves , loves a prima donna etc. Not just a singles act. R.I.P. Going to miss you.
God Bless Steve Harley. Aware of his music in the mid 70s as a young lad. Saw him live in 1983, I was 16 at the time. Saw him again in the mid 90s. He has made millions of us smile.
The way that song "make me smile" suddenly stops then flows onto a different pitch so effectively made it so special..simple but brilliant composition from an.understated music icon..but that's what he would have wanted, just an ordinary guy who wrote a great song
I agree, it's great. Did you know that it's lyrics are directed at ex-band members and could be paraphrased as Come and see me...grovel...and you might get your jobs back."? If you read its lyrics you will see.
i have just found out he died such a great performer always under rated but he often gave me a smile with his tongue in cheek performances...rest in peace dear Steve Harley

It was an honour to have seen Harley over 400 times. The gigs were amazing, the stories were captivating. I finally met the great man in November 2022 at Lytham. I was the proudest man in the world meeting the person who had been in my life for nearly 50 yrs. Every album was a gem in its own way. Last Sunday, I was heartbroken as I heard on the radio Steve had passed away. I’m still devastated to think I’ll never see him again. All I can say is it’s been a pleasure to have been able to see such an iconic musician. RIP Steve Harley, a true legend
Thanks so much for this, been a fan of CR for many years and Steve's voice was the winning ticket for so many songs they put out. Learned a lot about the group from this video and much of it news to me and very grateful for your input. RIP Steve.
I really liked Steve Harley and all his music over the years, my favourite was " Sebastian " , something mystical about the lyrics that reminded me of a Bob Dylan and his ability to write as he did and Steve was up there with him. May he rest in peace, Slan agus beannacht Steve.
He and his music evoke the mid-seventies as well as any other. He certainly had style. Interesting to note that he attended a private school. RIP Steve.
Very sad news with the passing of Steve. Such a talented writer and performer. One of a kind . One of the first cassettes I bought in 1975 was of theirs. Unique in many respects. Condolences to his family. Love Paul from Australia
As well as appreciating his songwriting, I appreciated Steve’s integrity. Unlike other stars who appeared on the BBCs Top of the Pops, he refused to toe the line re Jimmy Savile. He made his feelings very clear about Britain’s worst serial paedophile; refused to speak to Savile when they were in the TV studio together; and, threatened repeatedly to expose Savile (which caused a lot of consternation among BBC management).
After a difficult start in life, he made the most of it! He was there with the best of them during an incredible time. RIP Steve. Weeley folk festival, when festivals were still about music....not cash and control!
Human Managerie is one of my all time favourite albums, every track is fabulous & had a more sophisticated Bowie vibe. Harley missed a trick by not rereleasing Sebastian during the series & film of Brideshead Revisited which it was based on, it would have been a big hit. Harley was well read & admitted to directly taking many lines from Virginia Woolf's novel Waves for his single Riding The Waves.
*Rest In Peace, Steve.* Thank you. Annoying that he dumped his original band because they wanted to write a few songs, yet he later covered a George Harrison song and later allowed Jim Cregan to co-write. He then stated that "Come Up And See Me" was a poke at his old band for daring to suggest their writing any songs. 🤥
I saw him live last year. He said that he didn't sack them but they left of their own accord after the disagreements. He said he wrote Make Me Smile as a ruck at them for wrecking a good thing.
