I went for the 16PM and the camera control button feels like the MacBook Pro Touch Bar all over again. A design created to solve a problem we didn’t have.
Yeah , it ( shutter control button )looks a bit clunky , thinking about it , I reckon a lot of the camera functions and options could be instigated with voice command , especially seeing as Apple is getting all AI on us one day😊, as far as the shutter button and camera shake goes, that could also be voice command , on the other hand, they should be able to calibrate it with slight delay so your hand has time to stabilise the camera, however in action shots that is not ideal. Even on my full frame dedicated camera I was never really a fan of the half press then full press unless it was on a tripod. Seeing as we are looking at the screen of the phone the whole time we are taking pics , and the selfie camera is looking right at us , how about blink your eyes to capture ? Obviously it would have to be a deliberate blink or we’d be snapping photos every 3 seconds , but maybe a single eye blink for half a second or double eye blink for half a second which the phone could pick out from the normal super fast natural human blink . Imagine that …. Blink to capture 😊.
Yeah , it’s a bit of a dog , on a dedicated camera that weighs 4 pounds , camera shake is far less of a thing to worry about, they need to do something less clunky.

honestly the camera control needs getting used too. I don’t have the responsive issues with it, the double tap is a double force press, but its true, it always makes you shake the whole phone right before you press it.
The 15 Pro Max keeps on looking better and better for an upgrade from my 13 Pro Max. I disagree that the camera button is a flop. I replaced my camera app icon on the lock screen with voice memos, because I have a dedicated camera button that I can use to go straight to the camera while the screen is off. That's been a feature on android for 5 years minimum, finally glad to see apple catch up. They could have done more with that button like add touch ID, but lets take it in strides. It's okay. I’d say just got straight to the 16pro even though it’s slightly better on the 16 pro in comparison it’s still a tiny upgrade. If you’re bothered about the neural engine and better ray tracing bigger battery capacity (slightly) and slightly better camera quality then got for the 16. If not then just got the 15pro
Just test the portrait mode. Actually if you put your palm and cover the on screen button (just keep the photo part uncover) instead of try to stay on edge you got a pretty good grip without shaking. For the button itself, I got to get use to it to properly activate the function I want. Will play with it a little more.
One thing I’ve noticed is that you can now unlock Face ID in portrait mode, which for me is a big deal, so many times had to turn it around for many apps and things before, yet not even one reviewer has mentioned this?
I use the camera control and it's actually pretty easy to use! I don't understand how some people can't use it. If you don't know how to use it, just turn it off

This video is not up to your usual standards guys. For one, its a pretty known issue that inadvertently touching the camera control “button” is the major cause of swiping issues. Which is another reason that BUTTON is a half baked release and pretty dumb and needlessly over engineered added cost and “feature” from Apple. I have a feeling it will have the same fate as the Macbook Pro touch bar. And how is making AI available to the 15 pro and not exclusive a fail?! Its a fail they didnt make it available to all the 15’s and 14’s as they easily could in full or partial. But they chose not to ONLY to sell more 16’s.
I have enough issues with accidental touches. Can’t imagine those thin bezels. I still believe Apple makes incremental changes and makes a big deal of them. Waiting for something revolutionary. Great video. Thank you for honest review.
What i noticed as a “good thing” is the face detection!!! Coming from an iPhone14pro, on the 16pro this feature seems non existent for how good and fast and accurate it is… 😊
Day 6... I made to day 6 before I had to go into setting and disable the new camera button. You, just like Apple are missing that new button's biggest flaw: placement. I really really REALLY wanted to like it, but after 6 days of constantly picking up my iPhone 16 Pro Max and accidentally tuning on the camera every time, I realaized the pain and annoyance of the stupid button placement wasn't' worth having the ability to take a quick photo when last year's phone already had the actin button. What a stupid place to put the camera button.
@@daniel_960_I hope you know that in your phone is a sticker that changes orange if water got in your device, and if it’s orange your apple care is voided

The camera control is awesome I spent a day at the botanical gardens learning how to use it. I’m a lot faster at adjusting exposure, depth and zoom with the camera control. When you get practice clicking the button that shake goes away. Changing styles while shooting doesn’t make sense because you can apply the style in post in the photos app.
My 16PM has the issue where the camera app crashes which is a major fail from Apple. Their customer support got in touch and took logs off my phone but have seen online I am not the only person having this issue. Hopefully a SW update soon will sort this.
Maybe it’s me…but I like the camera control. It’s simple to point and shoot. If I need to zoom I’ll use it or use the on screen controls. I don’t see the big deal about it but that’s just me🤷🏾♂️
I couldn’t agree more about Camera Control. It’s definitely a cart before the horse scenario. It’s horrible. I have used it once. Pushing down on the button to take a photo, creates too much motion. Simply tapping the screen…. So much easier.
Seeing your issues with the camera control, I agree, big fail so far. May be fixable in software, aside from the positioning on the 16PM. I don’t have a 16 (yet, may upgrade), but you’ve done a great job of demonstrating some significant issue.
I am returning my 16 PM. I got a booty device. The phone overheats, glitches, and doesn’t render the app icons (they are just the default app grid icon). And the worst part is that the Camera Control doesn’t work. It crashes the springboard and the phone reboots.
If the iphone 15 pro max is getting all the AI features coming to the 16 series, how are they going to implement the one where you snap a picture with the capture button and it gives you information about the picture like google lens???
Personally I think the camera control is dependent on phone case design. The case I use makes using the camera control very ergonomic. But I can see how it would be awkward if you’re going no-case
8:45 you will get used to it by time i have p40 pro, where the bezels are non existent. no bezels. only corners so you don't mistakenly touch the screen with the palm i love it. especially when taking 9:21 photos. the preview is terrible on 3:4 photos, which drags camera's score on dxomark down terribly, but the preview on 9:21 compensates a lot and i can focus easier on the subject thinner bezels have a lot of comfort and quality of life advantages

If you don't know how to use it, just turn it off
Just returned my 16p and am replacing the battery in my gold 13p. The $750 difference is not worth it right now. After upgrading to ios18 my 13p felt the same as the 16p.
I think the camera control will fade away just like the touch bar on the Macbooks
Solution/Fixes to Camera Control Button and ALL three (3) camera concerns! First Step… go to Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control > Lighter-Press Force > (✅Check the) ‘Lighter’… Next in the same Accessibility Camera Control area at the bottom, (✅Check the) Double Light-Press ‘Slow’… these two (2) settings makes a MASSIVE difference and works super consistently.
Thirdly, to see the On Screen Camera Controls while also using the Camera Control Button. 👍 Go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Clean View (and toggle the switch to OFF).
Hope that will others out there… it TOTALLY changes the way the iPhone 16 Pro Camera Control Button works. 😇🤓😎
Very happy with my 13 pro max, now starting year 4 :)
Nobody really cares
@@robhughes8516I care
But what about Audio Mix? Perhaps the greatest win for home videographers. Some TH-cam Techies rate it as the best i16pm upgrade of all!! OK perhaps not for the likes of you, but for me it might mean I can dispense with my wireless mic for personal blogging.
Totally agree the camera button is pointless. If they added another button anyway why did they have to take away my mute switch 😢
I also feel like this camera control button was a bad idea.. I hardly ever use it and when I do I get annoyed.. 🤷🏻♂️
I wish that people would test the thermals of the iPhone in different cases. I do not know anyone who’s using an iPhone without some sort of case.
Have you tried the Eye Control?
you said you did a tear down on the pro and not the max so did you know they have different battery casings?
I have enough issues with accidental touches. Can’t imagine those thin bezels. I still believe Apple makes incremental changes and makes a big deal of them. Waiting for something revolutionary. Great video. Thank you for honest review.
Hold you’re finger on the camera control and push 2x (not click or tap 2 times)
Any issues with touch?
The camera control is for quickly opening the camera and using it underwater/ with gloves. That's it.
almost nobody will do that, specially if that void guaranty
@@edd9581 lots of people with apple care. It's unlikely something will happen.
@@daniel_960_I hope you know that in your phone is a sticker that changes orange if water got in your device, and if it’s orange your apple care is voided
@@juniperzander7161 warranty is. That's what apple care is for, damage to device.
@@daniel_960_ it’s both, Apple will refuse to fix your device if the liquid indicator has turned, they would only replace your device with your replacement fee
What if the Camera Control was placed at a corner to give it a click wheel haptic sensation?
The camera control is awesome I spent a day at the botanical gardens learning how to use it. I’m a lot faster at adjusting exposure, depth and zoom with the camera control. When you get practice clicking the button that shake goes away. Changing styles while shooting doesn’t make sense because you can apply the style in post in the photos app.
i have no issue with the "shake" with the camera control button... the scrolling on it sucks, but the shake is just "you're holding it wrong bro"
One video every day is so AWESOME
My 16PM has the issue where the camera app crashes which is a major fail from Apple. Their customer support got in touch and took logs off my phone but have seen online I am not the only person having this issue. Hopefully a SW update soon will sort this.
Hey in defense of the camera button, I DO use it to open the camera... but that's all haha. That being said, I do use it frequently to do that.
I am good to use the camera control button just to launch the camera and use the action button for the flash light
Waiting for the heating issue with comparison to ip15pro and ip16pro
Max
You can set the pressure on the button and you can set the camera features to show on screen on/off
Come on 😎
Maybe it’s me…but I like the camera control. It’s simple to point and shoot. If I need to zoom I’ll use it or use the on screen controls. I don’t see the big deal about it but that’s just me🤷🏾♂️
The camera control can easily be fixed from a software update. Since this is new, I think there's a lot of room for improvement.
I couldn’t agree more about Camera Control. It’s definitely a cart before the horse scenario. It’s horrible. I have used it once. Pushing down on the button to take a photo, creates too much motion. Simply tapping the screen…. So much easier.
no one who puts a case on their phone cares about a bezel
Damn true😂
Great video! Cannot wait for the iPhone 15 Pro series vs. iPhone 16 Pro series review
Hot Take: The new camera button is perfect and I find myself using it all the time.
What happens if you have a case? You won’t even be able to use the new camera control button
Seeing your issues with the camera control, I agree, big fail so far. May be fixable in software, aside from the positioning on the 16PM. I don’t have a 16 (yet, may upgrade), but you’ve done a great job of demonstrating some significant issue.
I used to take pictures using volume buttons.
Great question.
You’ll know when the update comes
They didn’t move any camera button it took the place spot exactly were the internal antenna was located
Personally I think the camera control is dependent on phone case design. The case I use makes using the camera control very ergonomic. But I can see how it would be awkward if you’re going no-case
who made the display??
Samsung 😅
Try using camera control button to take Live Photos and play it back, it’s a bit sad. 😕
8:45 you will get used to it by time
i have p40 pro, where the bezels are non existent. no bezels. only corners so you don't mistakenly touch the screen with the palm
i love it. especially when taking 9:21 photos. the preview is terrible on 3:4 photos, which drags camera's score on dxomark down terribly, but the preview on 9:21 compensates a lot and i can focus easier on the subject
thinner bezels have a lot of comfort and quality of life advantages
After seeing this video, i don't see any good reason to upgrade from my iphone X THANKS!!!!
The camara button should have been the power button with open API for any APPs not just camera apps
There’s a setting to keep on screen controls while using camera control fyi
I went to settings and turned off the camera side button in the camera settings so I’ll never use that button.
Apple is still dimming screens when intensive actions are happening like setting up with iCloud the video i watched the pro max dimmed when they did that. Problem still exists the heat shielding will help though
What about 45w charging?
Apple is the best as always
The 16 pro is making my 15 pro look even better now 😊
Camera control is definitely “blah” currently. Hoping to see it improve over time.
