I asked Jake in person when he did a clinic here in Australia if he could run us through this patch and we were all honestly shocked how simple it was yet it sounded huge. As he says most of the time less is more.
I love that you guys don’t over process your tones. Lots of local bands are using helix, axe fx, Kemper, QC’s and one thing I’ve notice is like 95% of these bands absolutely OVERCOOK their tones. It sounds like they have like 4 EQ blocks on their chain and it just sounds like a thin mess. I recommend not touching an EQ block unless it’s for low/pass filters. And yall absolutely nail it with your chain and processing management in your live tones. Keep it simple
Has anyone wondered why there are no 1u rackmount modelers? Just the Syn2. Would be cool if Fractal put one out with the intention of using ipad interface most of the time. I've got the Iu slot for it ready.
I’m assuming the cabs are Misha’s preferred Studio Cabs: Zilla IR’s shown in the P5 Wildfire mix? Misha has shown that particular plugin often for cabs and Nolly has shown them processed often as well. Or is it “secret sauce” because it’s the recently released Contenders IR plugin and they were not wanting to spoil it prior to its release? Just curious if Misha has kept his love affair with the Studio Cabs Zilla still or if he’s found something new he prefers in the newer Contenders cabs plugin.
any info on the 8-string in the end? Looks like an Ibanez rg2228a only the body is matt, different pickups. Hmm, LACS? Signature model? I think this is the best 8-string bridge Ibanez has done, hope they go back to it for future models, it's very good!
Pretty sure you're right, it's a 2228A that was hand-sanded to a matte finish (look close and you can see swirl marks) and pickups replaced with his own.
@@themodernguitarist I see, in that case the head-stock is sanded as well, also there are mysterious inlays trying hard not to look like the rg2228a. The lack of wood texture beneath what was once a solid finish is the final touch upon trying to go under the radar as a not rg2228a. Will we ever know? Oh the agony.
@@torjeamundsen Idk what you mean, the stock 2228A has dot inlays and a solid black finish. Are you confusing it with the M8M/M80M? If you google the 2228A in black it looks almost exactly like what Jake has, just with cream DiMarzios (possibly custom Titan 8s just for him, they've made him a custom 8 string Titan set before) and the sanded down finish.
I don;t think so. If it's still the same setup as a few years ago they are all getting the full mix from the board in their ears and they each can control their own in ear mix with their ipads.
it means the block has been assigned to a "global", which means it can be recalled into any preset and any changes made to one block in one preset will carry over to all the other instances of that block in other presets.
Why dont you use the amp Channels for different amps? Don't like your lead sound much, one tipp for that, use Dirty Shirley 1 with FAS Input Boost in amp Block and maybe change your pickups or guitar for that stuff of music, you need more attach
They've made their patches for a band context. Saw them live and their sound is amazing. Patches that sound good in a mix doesnt always translate well isolated and visa versa.
Absolutely love TH-cam. The only place where you’ll find what is likely a bedroom guitarist giving advice to not only professional musicians, but experienced mixing engineers that have over a decade of live sound experience how to tweak their sound to better match their particular tastes. As the other commenter said, there is an EQ applied and the band has 3 guitarists with different and very complimentary tones. You’re listening to one guy, at low volume, without all the other low, mids, and high frequencies coming from the rest of the band.
Every year Jake gets one step closer to Petrucci level beard
It helps that he is related too 👍
@@Drewp06 Jake is Rena's nephew, actually
He wants to be like his uncle
It’s in his genes.
Still needs more combing though. Some biceps would be nice as well.
Would love to see one of these patches for the gift of tone series this year if it gets done again. Thanks for sharing Jake and Cooper
If anyone can deliver the goods, Cooper can do it. 😎
That clean tone with the tape delay was awesome.

Sounds great! I recently discovered one of Jake’s solo albums and it’s a cool mix of synthesizer and guitar.
Dracul Gras. So cool to hear him play some of it.
Please gift of tone this!
Jake is the man
Thanks Jake and Fractal❤
For anyone wondering, Misha uses GGD Zilla cabs
Awesome!

Beautiful !!👏👏👏🧑🎤
God, I love this. Would love to see a more in-depth video at some point, maybe one involving crafting tones at home. How bout it, Jake??

Zilla is still the best all around one for metal.
Looks like the G12 K 100 to me.
Jake please release the JBM 8 string 🙏

I think it’s the Meshuggah signature with the pickups swapped

@@ejw3006 It's not, the M8M has a natural/stain finish and a way way longer scale.

djent tone sound glassy
I assume from the fractal to the inear monitor?

Fractals to a digital mixer and then to an in ear system.
Jake is every guitar player's dad
Did he just say in cereal? :)

@@Simeon_Harris That's a preety cool feature!
why don't you just make 10 louder, and make 10 be the top number and make that a little louder?
It goes to 11!
@@jgutierrez-welle6357 It's 1 more.
So much fizz and strange digital noise/artifacts in these tones. Can this be fixed with an eq or ?
I think I know what you mean.
Lowering the output level of the boost pedal and the amp gain should take care of it.
So much fizz in the real amps lol
You can learn of the magic adjustment in the cab block called “smoothing”
why dont they show us the CAB info? greedy at its fineest.
Eh, they can have their trade secrets. It's probably a GGD cab.

Sigh, armchair engineer telling a pro player in a band touring the world how to dial in his tones ....
