    I recently bought a FM3 turbo. I'm a sound tech and musician, and love the detail and flexibility of the emulations. long time tube-snob, but if you learn the unit it's fantastic. sounds like a 1 to 1 of my amps into impulse responses. IR mixing and matching is kind of an art in itself.

      @ccamacho9333 You said a bunch of things and put in words that negate what I think you're trying to say. "Nothing cant beat", which I presume is meant to be "can't", but then you're saying "nothing cannot cannot beat". Your sentences are a confused mess.

    I also love my FM3. I started with an HX Stomp, which I kept because it's easier to dial in and smaller. But after having the FM3 for a year and getting used to its complicated interface, I just can't argue with the sounds of both the models and effects. I love the sounds. I had an experience recently where I was considering buying a Fender Princeton Reverb. Instead, I pulled up the Princeton Reverb model in my FM3 and it's great. I'm playing through a little Henriksen amp and it fills the room and sounds and plays like the real amp. Then, to be able to add a Zen drive before, or a beautiful reverb after the amp, within the unit -- it sounds so good. Excellent sounds and tons of flexibility. But be warned, there is a learning curve, especially compared to the stomp.

    I own a FM3 came from helix and I won’t go back! It sounds amazing. I just saw Def Leopard and Phil & Vivian use Axe Fx III and it was a wall of guitar sound! Best I’ve ever heard at an arena venue. If you’re thinking of getting into fractal don’t hesitate. Little learning curve on the interface and FM3 Edit on pc or Mac but again just buy it! John and Leon are great resources for. fractal. Thank you John!

    I gigged with an axefx 3 for a year and then downsized to the FM3 and used it for a year and loved both of them. After gigging and owning all the modelers now, I think that the Fractal stuff sounds the best but the tonemaster pro has been my favorite to use live because of how user friendly it is, the great I/O flexibility, dead simple to tweak and adjust mid-song if needed and I honestly feel like it's build quality is the best on the market.
    The amount of work it takes to get the FM3 sounding better than the TMP is pretty big and trying to do anything with the fractal almost necessitates watching a youtube tutorial to understand how to do it vs the TMP making it really intuitive.

      Yeah, QC is kinda underwhelming in comparison, isn't it? Had FM3, bought a QC. It disconnected me so much from my playing. I sold it and re-discovered my FM3 months later. Unfortunately, the FM3 (and its tweakability) has a tendency to kinda steamroller me and to cause option paralysis, but there are moment I find myself just noodling for an hour, being super happy. I don't remember ever having had such moments on the QC.

      @Mr_Bollie 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@nunolance23 With the QC I ended up tweaking more than i played that thing. However, things have changed in the meantime: I fellout of love with the FM3 again and bought the QC a second time just to give it a try, hoping that firmware 3.x.x was better. I captured my favorite amp and now it's quite the opposite. I barely tweak, I mostly play. So yeah, back on QC again, and definitely happier with it. Also easier to create a patch on than on the FM3. Moreover, if you ever touched an H90 or Boss GT1000, you will notice that the FX in the QC are better than their reputation, IMHO. ;D

    I've got an FM3 and must admit (as a die hard tube amp player) that it sounds incredible, easy to use (when using the editor software) and amazingly versatile.- Plus it keeps getting better with every firmware update. The lack of VST isn't really an issue for me as it works vey well with Logic Pro via my Apogee Element 24.

  • @misterringer
    @misterringer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    After they nailed down gapless preset switching, it became a no brainer to me honestly. Their scenes were already better in my opinion because you could have 4 amp models that worked like amp channels. Every other modeler needs multiple amps in one preset, or compromising and trying to make the "high gain" modeled channel sound like mid-gain.
    Now i just can't decide which of the units I want haha.

    • @sdkee
      @sdkee 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This 4 amp model "channel" thing is what ultimately made me make the jump from Helix to Axe FX3. For some things I do I need three amps in a patch. I could never get happy with Helix using distortion/OD/EQ prior to the amp and/or snapshot parameters on the amps to get all three the way I wanted. Could always get two of them just right and had to compromise on the 3rd. With Axe FX it is a no brainer. Once I got it, the the sheer processing power just blows away the Helix, and there is no explicit connection between an fx location and a processor. So the frustrations with worrying about whether I can add another fx to my chain and go over 100% on one of the processors, or having to move the fx blocks between processors to get them both under 100% is just gone.

    Well, I played Kemper for about 10 years and meanwhile I can say that I know how it works. I gigged with it from clubs to large venues and it's totally reliable. But I never had an amp like feeling in terms of response. I built a wet/dry/wet rig then using a Revv amp and it was a totally different feel. To get a backup I ordered the FM3 using the Revv Generator in Green Mode and it blows me away. Kemper is years behind. Processing power, the modelling, response on the volume knob... it's unbelievable. And the switching is just smart...and last but not least the editor... another dimension.

    I had the QC, Boss GT-1000, Hotone 2 stomp as well as the HX Stomp before finally trying a Fractal FM3. For some reason I thought it was focused on metal high gain amps and sounds like that but it has the best clean and breakup sounds I've heard. I've never heard such realistic Fender Brownface/Tweed/Blackface sounds before. I find the FM3 is way better than all of the other amp sims I've owned, especially when it comes to the amp sims. Both when it comes to the quality of the sound and the amp feeling you get as well as how detailed everything is. The closest one in terms of sound quality was actually the Hotone 2 (to my ears). The effects are also great but the Helix and Boss have a lot of amazing effects too.
    If you want the most realistic amp sim where you can get both realistic amp-in-the-room sounds (Fractal has the best room reverb algorithms) as well as perfect studio recording sounds, just go for a used FM3 like I did. Not that much more expensive than a new GT-1000 or HX Stomp. And you get all the new updates just like the FM3 Turbo (only 10 % difference when it comes to DSP and some bigger screens, nothing else). I'd obviously prefer an FM9 for live use but the FM3 works for me as I don't do that many gigs anyway. Most of my use is rehearsing with my band and home recording/playing around.

    I always laugh when people complain about how complex Fractal gear is. Fractal is PROFESSIONAL gear. Professional gear is complex by nature. It is aimed at someone who is extremely knowledgeable and can make use of the complexity the gear offers. With that said, it’s only as complicated as you want to make it. The stock settings and presets they offer are amazing. You don’t have to menu dive if you don’t want to (and I actually would encourage you to avoid it unless there is something specific you know you want to change). Even if you only ever play their premade presets you will get an immense amount of enjoyment out of these products, they just sound that good.

  • @LanceZechinato
    @LanceZechinato 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    First, quick note about your playing: so tasteful! Just gorgeous note choices and “vocalizing”.
    I’ve been an Axe-FX user for almost 14 years now, through the different versions, starting with the Ultra. I’ve owned and loved other gear, too - Strymon in particular, also many others. I’ve gone “Fractal-free” for periods of time during gear binges, essentially recreating an “outboard Axe-FX” sans an actual Axe-FX. But I always ended up back at the Axe-FX. I have two Axe-FX III MkII units now in the studio (one is Turbo), and if I ever get my live gigging act together I’ll buy another for live use. Other modelers are awesome! But Fractal is the mountaintop. You’re right: it’s hard to convey why in a video or with words. It can sound like fanboi speak. But it’s actually true: for the money, it’s at the top of the mountain. The effects alone - aside from the amp/cab models - are as good as Strymon effects. And the constant refinements and improvement, and in some cases complete algorithmic overhauls, constantly moving the ball further down the field just makes Fractal gear the best for the money.

    I have used a Helix LT for about 7 years in all sorts of situations but due to never gelling with FRFR I am back to a real (Victory RK50) amp and using Helix for FX - to the point I think I just need an FX unit. The ability to model is still very handy in certain situations but unless everyone is on in ears it sounds weird in the room to have guitar coming out the PA, especially if there is another guitarist with an amp. I think it's about time to revisit all these new modellers. I know Rabea used the QC at Glastonbury but the Fractal stuff seems to be loved by Vai and others for its effects - not the amp modelling or emulation. I had an FX9 and the FX really were a level above most of the other options at the time. Guthrie is using the FM9 on Aristocats tour and with Hans Zimmer I think too

    I have a Helix, HX Stomp, Quad Cortex and an Axe-Fx III and I have to admit if I had to sell them they'd all go except the Axe. If I was playing out I'd probably get and FM9 Turbo. I love the small size of the Quad and it's ridiculously easy to use and powerful but if I had to use it live I think that without scribble strips it would be a big problem. I also don't know how strong those foot switches are so if you stomp on them too much is it going to effect them as encoder knobs.

    I really enjoy all of the modelers, and they sound great using them as a preamp with various types and styles of power amps. Its so strange how some of us who play in a regular bar, county fair or whatever complain so much about a little weight. In my case it depends on what i feel like bringing. It might be guitar with: fm9 tube power amp and cab, or fm9 with laney powered cab or cabs, axe fx 3 in rack with synergy power amp or whatever. I always run my line out 1 to FOH. I think it all sounds great, however if your a tube amp guy i think these modelers in your room sound /feel slightly better with tube power. Of course that's my opinion if your a digital guy you would most likely say solid state in your room sounds better. I think from a tube power amp to a miced cab sounds and feels different than running digital or tube power through an I.R to p.a speaker. If i listened to myself playing I would hear the difference pretty quickly, however if i listed to someone else on their equipment switch back and forth I wouldn't be able to tell. They are all good choose what works best for ya, cheers

    The Fractal ecosystem is years ahead of its closest competitor.
    The constant improvements, as you say, are unmatched. The algorithms are always improving and becoming infinitely more detailed.
    The improvements come as the owner sees fit, or discovers something new. Cliff is the intangible benefit that other modelers don't have.
    I look at other units more as toys. The Axe Fx 3 is a professional unit for serious players, and for people for whom money is not an object.
    It's worth every penny.
    The only potential "downside" is that the menus are extremely detailed and options paralysis can set in. Best to just not touch a parameter if you have no idea what it is, (e.g, bias excursion).

    I know 100 gigging guitar players who did not choose Fractal. Boss pedals are still the main effects. I have seen Boss pedalboards covered in dust and beer stains that have been used, abused and working for 30 years. I use a Boss IR-200 to feed a PA from the Slave Out of a Mesa Boogie Mark V. Three Channels covers 99% of sounds needed. My HSS Stratocaster covers 99% of all sounds needed. People who have a Fractal still use only a handful of sounds such as Fender Clean, Marshall Crunch, Vox Chime and High Gain Rectifier. I use a Boss SDE-3000EVH for excellent delay. I have switched to the Reverb in the new Boss GX-10. I admire people who can make a Fractal work. If you are not able to make a Fractal work on stage you are going to have to have a backup of Boss pedals. I have seen smart guys switch to Boss pedals when they don't have any time to troubleshoot why a Fractal is not working. It's the complexity that makes it a boondoggle for the stage. Some gigs I just plug straight into the amp with no effects. The audience does not know the difference. On a Fender Deluxe Reverb, you can play clean up to 5 on the Volume dial, turning up the dial on the Volume after 5 does not make it louder, it just gets more distorted in a good musical way. Many times going into a lead, I just turned the volume dial up either on the amp or my guitar. After 50 years of gigging, I know how to get great sound instantly without any need of a Fractal. In a recording studio where you might have 100 takes of one part, a Fractal might be useful, but 99% of my playing time is one take. Many times I practice with no amplification at all.

That only changed recently for amps when I heard the Tonex captures. But I still haven’t heard anything outside of Fractal that does effects as convincingly true to the stomp boxes. But too much of a learning curve and too expensive for me.
