I tried a sample and was stunned to realize it was MY perfume. As a collector, I own more than 200 perfumes (and about 300+ samples), but Guidance 46 was like finding the love of my life. So I bought a big decant for now, and will splurge on a full bottle for my birthday in a couple of months. I think the rosewater touch distinguishes this gorgeous juice from the original Guidance (which I loved but not like this!)
Yeah…the price point is a NO. I’m a fragrance lover but I refuse to go over $200ish. I just can’t pay a carnote for a bottle of fragrance. Goodness….this one is close to my mortgage payment!
Thank you for this in-depth review , Sebastian! I cannot but be impressed with your talented nose. Because your review stands out from the other review that I’ve watched here on TH-cam. Looking forward to test this and your fragrance as well! All the best!
Great review, I have now and love it! Best perfume in my collection and new signature scent❤ I am glad that price is not the center point of the review, yes it’s steep but worth every penny to me.
I have the Guidance 46 and it’s worth every penny. It lasts all day and the next day and the next, so you don’t need to spray a lot. I would buy again as I’m in love with Guidance 46❤. I’ve bought other expensive perfumes but nothing is like Guidance 46. Definitely worth it.
I liked Guidance but didn't feel like I needed to have it in my collection. Maybe the extrait will change my mind. Or maybe I should remain in blissful ignorance with that price point!
I just purchased samples of both the Guidance and Guidance 46. G46 is outstanding. I'd like to have a small decant of the OG but I much prefer G46 with that woody base. It's so smooth. It's incredible.
It is amaaaaazing. Yes, the price point is high, but for a luxury fragrance, you absolutely get what you pay for. Also, you can obtain coupon codes and pay a little less, like I purchased mine on Niche Essence for $468 after taxes and the shipping was free. But again, being a new perfume collector, the feeling you get while wearing these fragrances can never compare to the compliments!
As stated "Quentin is King." He's definitely in, or at the top of a list...for me anyway. Quentin, Roja, and Cecile would probably round out my top 3. As far as Guidance 46, the price is definitely lofty. My nose will tell me if it's too ambitious, or worth the ransom.
Quentin is one of my favorite - he add incensed vibes to his perfumes beautifully. Both in Delina, Tubereuse Astrale and can’t wait to try Guidance 46.
It’s so interesting to see your initial reactions! Would love to see more first impressions from you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one. I wasn’t a huge fan of the original, but I’m interested to sniff the new version.
I am not crazy about the original…..however, I took a chance and purchased Guidance 46 and I am loving it…..a couple of sprays is enough……so the bottle should last me a while……I didn’t care for the box and the price is ridiculously high…..but I don’t regret buying it………..Great review ❤️❤️
Hi Sebastian, thanks for the great review! Guidance EDP was a love at first sniff. I am Quentin Bisch fan and I own several of his fragrances. I am afraid to try the Guidance 46...I am sure I am going to love it...I will wait for the cooler weather before trying, but I am pretty sure I will purchase at some point. Thanks!
Wow so many people like the OG Guidance here. I just get a mix of cognac and body odor when I test it on myself & others. I tried it first as a decant from Lucky Scent and then again at Neiman’s with friends and my nose just doesn’t understand it.
I have to say the price is outrageous!!! But…….. I Adore this fragrance!!! I bought it!!! I have a Massive collection of Niche fragrances and this is now my absolute obsession
No fragrance is ECONOMICALLY worth more then 400$ and even that is questionable. Oud isn't THAT expensive, we should not pay for a large fraction when they make thousands of bottles.
❤ I was patiently waiting on your review I love your passion for fragrance this perfume is on my wish list as I am on my second bottle of the original 😊
The only word that I can think of to define amouage fragrances is 'sophisticated'. Super refined and excellent quality. Interlude is definitely my favourite
Great review Sebastian. The thing that stands out for me with the original Guidance is the fruity woody trail. It’s a very unique creamy sandalwood. Are you getting that from the extrait?
I get so many compliments on purpose by Amouge… surprised he didn’t care for it but it’s all subjective. I love Amouge perfumes I have purpose, interlude, and journey. I also love ovation.
I love the original; one of my most complimented scents for sure! I have a 1 ml decant of 46…I think on first impressions I prefer the original but I might buy a bigger decant of 46 and give it more wear!
That's a first I've seen you like a fragrance, and say "Wow" that means its really good. I wish they'd create a sampler for it, but I'll check out the Guidance version for now.
He had similar reactions with Sospiro Dolce Melodia, Nishane Hundred Silent Ways/Hacivat layered combo, Bodicea The Victorious Harmonious, Dior Homme Parfum, etc. Just watch him. 😊
I have the original Guidance as it was the last expensive perfume I purchased before I was forced to retire. This version of Guidance 46 is beyond my budget, but it sounds beautiful. Even though I probably won’t ever get to try it or buy it (which may be a good thing since I know I would probably love it), but thanks for the video and the comparison of the two.
Gawd, I loved your anticipation, excitement, and reaction to this fragrance! So fun to see you get this enthused over this scent. Thank you so much for the explanation of the fragrance concentrations. I could never blind buy 😅at this price, I would have to find a way to sample it first
Guidance the og has to be my favorite fragrance at the moment. I have a generous sample of the 46 which I find to be smoother and creamier with a very prominent pear note. Yeah the price is off-putting, which is why I'm holding off buyibg it until my og is finished😅. The og is a beast in performance, but 46 is next level - I can smell it on me even after taking a shower!
I always learn from you. I’m a huge fan of Quentin Bisch’s work and consider him a genius. My favorites of his being Guidance, Hibiscus Mahajad, La Belle Le Parfum. That being said, I don’t think Guidance 46 is a necessity. It was released a little too soon.
I am (thanks to you) now a fragrance fanatic. I am building my own niche collection already ❤️🙏I own Guidance, but $520 for a bottle seems too much for me.
I think it's worth it for those who found the OG to be too loud, jarring and in your face. When I sprayed my decant of the extrait, it's like the opening began at the dry down of the original where the frankincense has already calmed down and come into balance with the rest of the notes. It's very similar to the original, just with a lot less frankincense and it's like the volume has been turned down lol. For those who didn't mind the uniqueness of the scent but enjoyed the dry down of the original over the opening that they struggled with, I'd say the extrait is a better choice. As for me personally, I adore the original Guidance in all its obnoxious glory. The extrait didn't feel different enough scent-wise for me to feel like I really wanted it. But I think it's a great alternative for the folks who struggled with the opening and general loudness of the original.
I won't pay that much for a fragrance... although the way even designer prices are creeping up, the gap between everyday fragrance and this kind of niche offering seems to be narrowing. I recently paid close to £250 for a Fragrance du Bois, and it hurt, it reeeally hurt. Whilst I appreciate the quality of ingredients will raise the cost, I would be interested to see a breakdown of the actual costs of production just to see what the markup is. I recall seeing Aaron Terence Hughes wondering at the prices of Boadicea the Victorious fragrances... cos he uses high quality ingredients and maintains a much more reasonable price point... and he imagined they must be using Unicorn horn and suchlike. As an aside, if you're interested in limited edition fragrances, I got an email today about a limited release from Jo Malone called Orange Marmalade... a Paddington related thing... using orange peel, orange biogarade and cashmere wood.

😭 I would love a bottle too. It’s the only one that I know of this house that has some longevity. Reflection man is also beautiful , but it doesn’t last as long as I would like.
I feel that I would love Guidance if I didn’t have an extremely negative connotation with sandalwood in my brain. The trauma I have with someone who used to wear santal 33 just makes me associate any sandalwood fragrance with them, Guidance included. Otherwise it’s a beautiful scent. The hazelnut is my favorite note in it. I haven’t been able to finish my tester/sample of it.
