I really liked how they decided to end Konquest, basically on a cliffhanger. "You unleashed Shujinko, now he can defeat the Dragon King". And you can still explore the world, but nowhere Onaga can be found. So what you need to do to get the ending, is to go from Konquest to the Arcade and beat the ladder with now unlocked Shujinko. And the ending you get is canon. That's cool.
Not enough attention was put on how hilarious some of the things Shujinko does in this game are I'm pretty sure in Outworld, the scene right after he joins a defense force for one of the villages he immediately joins the Tarkatans to try and seize the village he was JUST protecting Best protagonist in the series
Dude, this game rules. The story was an incredible payoff to everything from MK4 and DA, and tbh, with the benefit of hindsight, they should've had Raiden reset the timeline at the end of this game, right before Onaga is about to succeed and become The One Being. ARMAGEDDON was a mistake, at least story-wise. But this arc, the Scorpion/Sub-Zero/Quan Chi events of MKM and MK4 leading to the discovery of the Dragon King's tomb, the one time we actually cared about Liu Kang dying, just in general, the lore surrounding those 3 games is, imo, the best MK has done to date. Of course it has funny/cheesy stuff... it was 2004. But the world building, character designs, level designs, fan service, extra modes... its all amazing.
Yeah, this game feels like it was made to be generally FUN to play. Animations were clunky, character interactions and dialogues were goofy but the game offered so much content that it didn't bother. Havik's existence is my favourite example. They literally made the shittiest, impossible animations, slapped them onto Havik and made them work for the character by explaining him to be chaotic by nature. Thus making him a fan favourite.
Only problem with your plan is that the game after this “timeline reset” that your talking about would be the last game from midway leaving the future of mortal Kombat doomed as the game that netherrealm studios would be a weird sequel rather than a reboot. MK would probably be doomed.
Actually, when you get out of jail as old Shujinko, you can reaquire all your abilities by opening secret chests at different spots in all the realms. I think he should have everything by default at this point but whatever.
Scorpion being at the Nexus was explained in Deadly Alliance(I think) because now he’s the champion of the elder gods(Which is also kinda the explanation why Monster was there earlier in the game because he was meant to be Scorpion but apparently the design didn’t fit him according to the developers) And that plot point is actually followed up on in Armaegeddon’s Konquest where the Elder Gods bring his clan back for his service but as zombies
Deceptions Konquest was ahead of it's time for a game that came out in 2004. Man when deceptions came out I use to spend hours on it especially unlocking characters, costumes, & certain stages. The png they had on certain items to find were funny ass hell but overall good game & even added to the lore.
Bro I spent at least 50 hours just roaming the world, talking to people. Sometimes after I beat the game, I'd boot it up to find whatever collectibles I didn't find already and finish possible quests, or just explore the borderline liminal spaces.
Nah, not really. Games like Half Life, Deus Ex, GTA:SA, and Morrowind (to name a few) had already begun to set the standard of open-world, narrative driven games with incredible world building, compelling characters, immersive and innovative gameplay and stories worth following. Deception unfortunately can’t hold a candle to any of those games, but it definitely had potential to be something more than what it ended up becoming.
I played Deception again recently, and for as goofy as it was and is I still think it’s an overall better game than X and 11. At least as far as Konquest goes. Idk, maybe I’m biased because this was my childhood MK
Deception did more for MK lore then any other game in the series IMO, while it definitely isn’t the best acted or anything, all the interactions and little stuff we get to see across the realms in Konquest do so much for the lore
I gotta say, I do feel like I'm one of the very few people who want Hotaru back in MK1 just because his playstyle isn't something that's often seen in NRS games now a days, that being a long ranged normals/footsies based character and not a full on zoner.. and- on top of that I like his simple design of a morally grey character, as Captain of Orderrealm, all he seeks to do is perfect everything so things remain in constant peace. He leans to an extreme of making things peaceful which means he does some questionable things along the way to achieve it. Plus his design goes kinda hard ngl
Damashi means Deciving in Japanese, it blew my mind when I found that out. Loved this mode in Deception, the biggest gripe I have with it is: No quest logs
This was my very first MK game, absolutely loved it. Probably wasn't the best game to play as a 7 year old but it allows me to think back and appreciate how much I love this game, even the story mode. After finishing MK1 (loved it by the way), I really hope they do something similar to Deception with a konquest mode.
If they could do a konquest mode like this, it would pop off specially with today's gaming tech they could add so much more to it like swimming, climbing, side games or even fighting like in SM. Just add alot to it.
Hotaru, shujinko, Havok, & Darrius have some bad ass moves & combos if you know how to play as them. Hotaru hits like a damn Mack truck. Dairou I hated playing as & his move set is trash, & he's a bland character. Even Hsu Hao had some good moves & if I remember you can find him in edenia. I personally liked the game & all you could do in it. All the locations, the secrets that only happen at certain times/days, way more open world than Armageddon story mode.
Rather not. They'd microtransaction the crap out of it,pre-order paywalls,Dlc announced before games launched, do nothing with the characters outside their factions, force the character based chapters which are very limiting, the works of Modern gaming and Netherealm Studio. No thanks, much as Id too want that.
Ppl make a big deal about Shujinko's stupidity, but it never bothered me... he was contact by what he thought was basically the Voice of God, when he was like 13, in rural China, and wasn't just told "start eating children" right away. Damashi followed him for years, and gradually had him slowly accept worse and worse missions. Almost like Stockholm Syndrome with an abusive significant other, if that person also kidnapped you with the old "hey kid, get in my van, there's candy". In our real world right now, billions of people believe the same thing happened to Jesus at 12.... not the analogy I just used, simply the "voice of God gives child divine quest" thing. And Shujinko spent his entire life on that quest, into old age, only to find out that he was never special, he was never chosen by the Elder Gods, but simply manipulated by an evil being that dug into his mind. He ignored the red flags because he'd given his life to this holy quest. Plus... if some otherworldly spirit showed up to you alone when you were 12, and told you that you were secretly an alien from Marklar, you'd probably never tell a soul after your parents laughed at you, but you'd believe that until your dying day. Shujinko also saw horrible things. If right now, you were teleported into an alternate dimension of demons or something like Chaosrealm, it'd mess you up. He was aged like 15 years by that pool, and then imprisoned for I believe even longer in the parallel realm. And to his credit, once he has a minute to process what happened, that he was a fool and Onaga would destroy the world, he immediately manned up, and rather than wallowing in his misery and humiliation, he fixed the problem... for which his reward was execution by Dark Raiden. That's pretty good storytelling for a fantasy setting imo.
The character who's shown to be dumber than Shujinko in Mortal Kombat Deception seems to be Raiden, especially since he never goes to ask the Elder Gods if Shujinko was their chosen Champion or not, which he should of right after Shujinko says he is their Champion, and Raiden either knows or at least should have been told from the Elder Gods about what happens if you bring all the Komidogus together. Which is weird because the Elder Gods watch over each realm and know the Komidogus are being collected and they would have made Raiden put a stop to it as soon as possible before the one being was brought back, although it seems they never decided to try and stop Shujinko or warn him of Damashis Deception and what would actually happen if the Komidogus were brought Together. And in the end Raiden blamed Shujinko even though it's more Raiden's fault than it is Shujinkos that Onaga was brought back only for Shujinko to defeat Onaga in the end, and then Armageddon happens. TL;DR Raiden just blindly decided to trust Shujinko, instead of asking the all knowing Elder Gods who watch over the realms about if Shujinko is their Champion, and if they want him collecting the Komidogus or not meaning that the Elder Gods and Raiden are the real reason for Onagas return, but they decided to blame Shujinko.

I'm biased towards Armageddon but objectively, I can say that Deception is the best MK game. Konquest, Chess Kombat, The Krypt, online multiplayer, holy shit. All in 2004, that shit is wild to me.
Deception Konquest is one of my all time favorites. It’s stupid, I know, but still, playing as a character wandering around the different realms collecting things is amazing. I absolutely hate that MK switched to cut scenes then battle. Let me wander around the different realms. Bring Deception Konquest back, bring but obviously update it. It was so much fun. I honestly haven’t really liked any MK game since. Plus the weird Tetris game? GOLD!
This is my favorite mortal kombat story mode still…. I loved everything about it tbh even the “goofiness” collecting secret character skins, developer collectibles in the krypt, the sound effects, the realms, all that madness. They genuinely tried to make this game fun to play in every way possible whether it’s laughing @ the game or enjoying some of the story & the fights. A lot of the “goofiness” in the story you can tell was intentionally done because they thought it was funny themselves.
MK Deception gave more depth for the Mortal Kombat franchise, I always thought that MK was just people beating the shit outta each other, until they introduced Konquest and intro cutscenes in MK:DA and Deception.
I will never stop saying Dairou had the coolest look. He's straight out of some Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or other Wuxia movie. He looks more Shaolin monk that Liu Kang ever did. And he had the best teleport ever that swapped places with you and your opponent. In game with insta-kill ring outs, that's kinda good. 19:35 That's what I've been saying and that was back in like 2005 when I didn't even try to look up bios for MK1-3. The whole reason Sindel and Kitana were with Shao Kahn was that he counquered and merged Edenia, but now it's like "nah". Already Ed didn't feel like following his own lore.
It’s actually stated (either through character bios or endings that were canonized) that Edenia and Outworld separated back into their own realms after Liu Kang defeated Shao Kahn and thwarted his invasion of Earthrealm in MK3. Shao Kahn knew he’d be cooked if he tried some shit again, so he stayed put for the events of MK4 until he had to hide from the Deadly Alliance.
Me when I accidentally found your channel on accident, thought your voice sounded familiar, and then proceeded to see the side quest channel at the bottom of your yt page lol
Scorpion was at the Nexus at the end because of his arcade ending in M.K. Deadly Alliance. He is rescued by the elder god's who wants Scorpion to be there champion and prevent the kamidogu from reaching Onaga's hands. In return, they would revive Scorpion's clan, which carries over in Arrmageddon although Scorpion failed. The elder gods brought back his clan as the undead.
Was really hoping they added a konquest like this in MK1. And when I mentioned it on another video ppl swore me up and down no MK had a open world type mode which this and Armageddon had
Konquest mode and shaolin monks are the best story modes mortal kombat ever made in my opinion . I loved deception played every version and was obsessed with unchained on the psp
If they had brought Shujinko back before resetting the time line everyone would have said to him “oh you can fuck right off! I asked you to help me but instead you betrayed me and everyone else! Stealing what we tasked you with helping us collect. Go kick rocks Shujink!”
Lmao I have to say, Shujinko has a solid set of moves without the addition of “stolen” specials…the fight with Tanya in Edenia is just *hard* by default 😂
so at 15:26 when he mentions sub zero being kuai liang not making sense, if i remember right the sub zero that trains shujinko is his grand father, and the art style super seeds visual story tellings but its meant to be his grand dad that trains you, then arround the mk 1 part it would be bi han, and later kuai liang obs, also mk da scorpions ending is he becomes the elder gods champion
That makes sense, I guess. Still, there was never a mention of Sub Zero’s family also being ice wizards who were able to pass on their abilities at that point in MK’s lore, but eh.
@@coffinfeeder7732 this isnt true either, im pretty sure theres some lore in mk11 or something like that, that says sub zeros ancestors were not from earth realm
My favorite story mode even though I never beat it. the "I will rip out your spine and use it to unclog my commode" line is still great. Also Edenia is not Outworld. Edenia was conquered by Shao Khan
Shouldn’t be surprised Quan Chi is stronger than Shang Tsung because Quan chi provided Shang with endless souls to make him more powerful with chi Shang wouldn’t be as powerful without Shao Kahn.
Glad to finally see someone acknowledge that Hotaru has absolutely NOTHING going for him outside of his design. Dairrou is just more interesting in every other way possible.
Uh, didn't people already mention or know that? Tbh this was a problem for ALOT of characters in the OT, and the Trilogy by Netherealm studios did NOTHING to expand and make them something for 2D era nostalgia pandering. Like I don't like Hsu Hao,but ffs if they were willing to try to make Stryker likeable in Armmageddon THEN mk9, they could of put the effort in. Lazy and inept.
Bro had a main mission bring back medallion but instead took a side mission from onaga amd from der just went on side mission to a main side mission to side mission lmao
The only mistakes about mortal Kombat deception, was they released it before fully finishing it, and never remade it/released it to Xbox/Sony digital store 😔
if im not mistaken i remember fighting onaga at the end? funny thing to first try i was destroying him and then accidently harakkiried myself and had to fight him again maybe the psp version had a different ending

so at 15:26 when he mentions sub zero being kuai liang not making sense, if i remember right the sub zero that trains shujinko is his grand father, and the art style super seeds visual story tellings but its meant to be his grand dad that trains you, then arround the mk 1 part it would be bi han, and later kuai liang obs, also mk da scorpions ending is he becomes the elder gods champion
Shujinko is a yes man personified. All he does for his entire life is whatever other people tell him to.
This game couldn't be further from a mistake. Best story mode I've ever played
After the konquest you can travel the realms to find Shujinko's special moves then fight in the arcadeore for the true Deception ending
The Flintstones sound effect was the best LOL Great video, congrats
I used to love this game. Poor Shujinko!
shout outs to my mom for no reason? Lol what
Maybe the REAL Damashi was the Onaga we met along the way
My favorite story mode even though I never beat it. the "I will rip out your spine and use it to unclog my commode" line is still great. Also Edenia is not Outworld. Edenia was conquered by Shao Khan
Maybe Kuai Liang was named after his Grandfather, since supposedly he was the Sub-Zero before Bi-Han.
Nah bro, I think YOU just don't want Hotaru back
The best mistake.
The timeline of the conquest mode never made any sense to me. Shujinko ages decades, yet many characters don't age a day. *shrug*
Awesome Video Bro.
PSP days. I miss my PSP 😢. Nostalgia
Mortal Kombat: Deception's [Konquest Mode] is superior to [Invasion Mode] in Mortal 1 Kombat(2023).
Strongly agree
Agreed. I like mk1’s gameplay but the modes/content sucks.
Shang Tsung losing to Quan chi the only problem i have with this cinematic
Havik is the diamond in the rough, though. You can't tell me Havik isn't epic.
I just realized that onaga introduced himself as damashi, which shang also did in mk1
Shout out to the Editor. Tutorial skip cards made me sub
never understood why u couldnt just fight as shujinko instead of transforming into other characters
Shouldn’t be surprised Quan Chi is stronger than Shang Tsung because Quan chi provided Shang with endless souls to make him more powerful with chi Shang wouldn’t be as powerful without Shao Kahn.
The editor is one 🐐’d individual.
Glad Havik was the one that broke you out of that odorrealm prison.....
14:53
Live footage of Kenshi disconnecting

Shujinko is top 5 characters, peak.
This game is a staple to my life and always reminds me of my mom who would buy me every single new game.
Bro had a main mission bring back medallion but instead took a side mission from onaga amd from der just went on side mission to a main side mission to side mission lmao
Deception had the best game modes by far
Hey look it's a casual Netherealm Studio fan who acts the ps2 games were terrible
Lol y'all gotta watch the video before you comment I love this game
@@tgtkai :)
The only mistakes about mortal Kombat deception, was they released it before fully finishing it, and never remade it/released it to Xbox/Sony digital store 😔
Pretty sure I was stuck on motaro for months as a kid. Ended up going back after I got Shaolin monks and finally beat him.
if im not mistaken i remember fighting onaga at the end? funny thing to first try i was destroying him and then accidently harakkiried myself and had to fight him again maybe the psp version had a different ending
the mileena part. Roll.
I would like Deception more if Shujinko wasn't in it
I wonder what Shujinko is up to in the new timeline... maybe he's a monk?
Who is one character you would want to see in mk1? It can be anyone from anything
Shujinko is back as a kameo
the konquest was awesome and the fact that you can just walk around and hit people and also the side quest was cool to
I want to see Young Shujinko as The Last Character in Mortal Kombat 1
kinda dumb that you gotta find chests to unlock shujinkos moves. but I love that idiot so much
And dont forget most of the ladies also made a deal with shinnok to get into mk1 again. The sacrifice was to get breast reductions.😂
