A thing that I didn't include in the video is that at one point the Shaolin temple might have been unlocked when you obtained a certain item and talked to Apep. Didn't include this because of the weird leftover code for it, it basically checks if you have rain (as in the function) and you talk to Apep and a specific point in time - this code however does not seem to set the door function so decided to skip it to not cause confusion. Was it worth waiting almost 20 years for 2 chairs and a table?

Honestly yeah, it was worth it. Not because of what actually was there (or rather not), but because it fueled the game with so much mistery and made it extra special lol. Great video! And I look forward to try Ultimate Deception one of these days. It looks superb 🙌🏻

I love the cutroomfloor content man. Absolutely necessary for a game like MKD that contained so much mystery in a time where there were no explanations and only rumours on online forums and older siblings/cousins
One rumor that i remember seeing quite a lot in my childhood was one that said that motaro was a secret playable character in MK : Shaolin Monks, many popular videogame pages provided a cheat code to do such thing, obviously it was fake, but a thing that i always found curious was the fact that it was always stated that the code only worked in the ps2 version of the game.
It's worth pointing out that the PSP version of this, Mortal Kombat Unchained, does have Jax and Blaze as playable characters. So they definitely were cut from this version and added in later.
I was hoping you'd make a video on this! I think the jade key change was probably a QA / QOL change to make the key more visible. Would love to see a video on the other items that don't seem to have any use like the ninja star
I don't think it's a QOL change considering you get the correct colors when values are swapped, its interesting how it was faster to change the icon than to change the colors. As for other items, I have to check every script if they contain at least a single reference to an item so that might take a while to figure out.
Great video, I can NEVER get enough of MK Deception and especially Konquest! One thing I always gotta ask though: Is there any trace of an unused indoor Edenia stage in the game? In Konquest mode every realm has two stages: an indoors one used for most of the mandatory training sections, and an outdoors one used for all the other fights and non-mandatory trainings. ...That is with the exception of Edenia, which only ever uses an outdoor stage! Since there is only one mandatory training in that realm (Sindel) I always wondered if the game actually features an indoor Edenia stage which was left unused when they set Sindel's training outdoors. I checked online and in no "MKD scrapped content" video or page is there a mention of an unused Konquest stage, but at the same time I don't know if people really went looking for it.

What gets me about the Shaolin Temple conversation is that they had Shujinko asking how does he prove himself to the Shaolin just to feed your hopes that there was actually a way to do it and then enter the temple. Midway, bunch of fucking trolls.
about temple. i guess there was a quest where you been told that there's a hidden door, you go in then you took/steal something then leave and never comeback to the temple. basically the guards are guarding something valuable in temple
all this sort of stuff has potential to get finally used if they ever do a remaster/remake for Deception the monk temple mystery is what made me explore Konquest mode extensively, my best friend I tried to do every conceivable action possible inside the village/earthrealm etc. Collect every coin, chest, do every hidden sidequest, talk to everyone, punch everyone, try interacting with everything, meditate etc. etc. Konquest mode is probable the reason I fell in love with open world games, always looking for that secret around the corner

Very interesting that Jax and Blaze were cut, you'd think it'd be easy to include them since they could be easily ported from Deadly Alliance, a shame they didn't make it in.. is what I would say if Ultimate Deception and Unchained didn't both exist.
I'd say what MKU added was the base roster (so MKD + Jax, Blaze, Frost and Kitana), there's pretty much nothing leftover for Shao Kahn or Goro in the PS2 version at least so these 2 must have been made up for GC/somehow never included or tested in PS2.
One thing I am curious about, Why does Nitara have a unique Dragon Teeth model despite her being Unused entirely, Were they a cut design for Kira(if so why are the equipped on Nitara then) or did they possibly intend for her to use them in fight at somepoint. I always personally theorized that she was meant to be a fight challenge for the Vampire Hunter Quest in Outworld, But that was always little more than a guess. Curious to see if you happen to have any ideas. Been loving your UMKD Mod by the way it's phenomenal.
Nitara's weapon model is "wp_knife" and Kira's "wp_kira_knife", I guess its just a generic model - don't really think too much about NPCs in MK as they are usually built up from leftover stuff and dont't have any meaning.
I don't think they were intended for Nitara to use, cause iirc you don't fight Nitara in konquest, they prob gave it to har as they didn't want to port Nitara's actual weapon the Kama as she not intended for this game

@@ermaccer Ah, I use Wallpaper Engine so I was going to use the video instead of an image if you had it. Doesn't matter if you don't, the image works fine too
I've wrote my own script decompiler (github.com/ermaccer/mkoasm ), while debug symbols exist on GC - most of them don't match PS2 or PSP so I had to do a lot of manual reversing to look at stuff. A lot of MKvsDC scripts actually still use MKDA/MKD function naming (names are included in scripts there), so that's also a point of reference.
I believe that if you were to add more characters to the roster, they could be, for example, Kung Lao, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi. Kung Lao would maintain the voice of Sub-Zero/Raiden, but Shang Tsung and Quan Chi could have the voice of Kabal or Nightwolf instead of the young Shujinko and Bo' Rai Cho's voice. They could function either individually or as a duo, similar to Noob-Smoke, being called "Deadly Alliance."
