Have to agree! I saw Mike Hailwood on the 6 and Phil Read and Bill Ivy on the Yam 4's at the Ulster Grand Prix. No bikes come close to the sound of those machines.
In 1968 the guesthouse we stayed in was close to the garage they stored Agos MV. We were having dinner and all of a sudden the noise of a multi cylinder bike outside. It was Agos mechanic fine tuning the MV. My mate gave him a push to get it going again. What a noise but nothing like the Honda 6.
I raced at the same time as Bill Ivy and had the privilege of writing his biography, "No Time To Lose" after his tragic death in 1969. During his last year Bill also raced Formula 2 cars. Jackie Stewart, the world F1 champion at that time, said Bill Ivy had more natural talent than anyone he had seen coming into motor racing. R.I.P. means Resurrection In Paradise when God's Kingdom reigns....I wonder what Bill will say about the book I wrote about him when he returns!!? Alan Peck 🐴

He always stayed at The Douglas Bay Hotel (as did I )until redeveloped. Your book was, as far as I am aware, the only one he ever read, cover to cover. Praise indeed. Best wishes.
What a wonderful film. A couple of mates and myself took a day off college in 1968 and caught the mid night boat from Liverpool to Douglas. We watched the 125cc in the morning and the 500cc in the afternoon. What a great days racing! Ivy and Read in the morning. Agostini and Halewood in the afternoon.
Great film. My Dad took me and a friend there for that day on the overnight boat from Liverpool. went on a coach tour of the course at about 5 am! Sparked my lifelong passion for motorcycle racing.
In 1968 (or maybe a year earlier) both Yamaha and Suzuki came out with their 250 twin street bikes. I bought the Suzuki X6 Hustler. This was in SoCal and the Suzuki support center that was in LA provide detail drawings of how to modify the engine and build an exhaust system to change it to their racing configuration. They also had the parts necessary to change the suspension system. So of course I made my street bike a pavement racer, but still drove it on the street. Just a little peaky to drive in traffic, but fun on the freeways. I did some racing at Willow Springs and Carlsbad, but was never that great. Definitely didn't have the tire profiles of todays tires. Yamaha was really the top bike in the 250 class with Suzuki doing much better in the 125 class and the 50 cc class. 50 ccs with a 12 speed transmission.
I adjusted my friend's RD 350 Yamaha according to parameters given by someone who was supposed to know. Apparently those machines were set "rich" on oil delivery for the breakin period. After that they could be leaned out quite a bit which made them a lot more environmentally friendly. In my friend's case it made for a lot less smoking.
That year my dad RON GLOVER passenger JOHN PENNINGTON 750cc NORTON racing finished 13th absolutely brilliant I was there can remember some it was brilliant.

as yamaha where the only factory team still racing in the small classes i would call it more of a walk over than TT racing at its finest go back one year to 67 and the 500 race that was TT racing at its finest

Little known factoid: In 1969 the IoM Tourist Board had the mountain lowered by ten thousand feet after complaints from TT fans. There was some backlash from IoM businesses who made extra money renting snowshoes during the TT and Manx events.
it's amazing to see the air they get and even more astonishing that now in 2015 people are doing this at 130 mph plus. i would love to race on the isle but these people are going to be gray in their 30s from the sheer attention it takes

It's good to have the (apparently 16mm Silent color film) for history, but it shows a really budget-minded film crew where very little effort or money was involved.
Err yes I would in terms of safety and rider longevity back then owners of circuits just didn't care. But the TT was the first and most notorious Grand Prix to be dropped. Too many riders thought it was just not worth the points to ride at the TT. I think Ago was one who had lost too many friends to the TT. Barry Sheene only rode there once and refused to ever come back.
All the rain water has caused the mountain circuit to shrink in the wash.😂😂.....and the 13,500 feet altitude error...they obviously no longer aim as high as they did back in the 60s..😁😁
This was the year Read did the dirty on Ivy who let Read win the 125 title and Ivy to win the 250 title as was arranged before the season but when Read won the 125 title he reneged on the deal and went all out to win the 250 title which he did I never had any time for Read after that and poor Bill lost his life the following season when his Jawa seized up leaving him with fatal injuries R.I.P Bill you will always be a champion, Phil in my eyes you tarnished your legacy.
World Champions are not "arranged", you have to beat everyone fairly to truly be called champion. Bill was told he'd have to race for the 250cc championship, but he lost and he stupidly gave away a 125cc Championship that he could have won. Blame the team for tarnishing a legacy by cynically trying to manipulate the results. Don't ever ask a world champion to give away a championship, that's insulting.

I see the famous jump in town...but the one i saw was on a fast hill straightaway at like 160...on a 250cc 2 stroke...the video was take it to the limit..tje ultimate motorcycle odessey was its name ...in town jumping a street bike in a turn not to great of an idea....still fun...but not agreat idea....

In 1968 I had a Honda 50cc which I had to start the same way these guys do.
13000 ft, I don't think so. Mount Snaefel is 2350 feet if I remember rightly.
