Back in the 80's when i was a kid i would always find baby bullheads in the irrigation canals here in Phoenix, Az. i would set up an aquarium just like Yours and keep them as pets and give some to my friends and other kids in the neighborhood. Those where beautiful memories. i think im going to go catch a few baby bullhead set up a new tank.
Very gentle creatures, i had 2, a male and a female, every time i would clean my backyard pond they would calmly swim around my feet and i could hand feed them
I felt bad catching them for food, you feel sorry for how ugly they look but they're good for eating. I would actually love to stock them in a pond, not for eating, but because they're interesting fish, ugly but neat.
I wouldn’t say any catfish are “gentle” at least not in the wild, bullhead in particular are pretty aggressive from my experience fishing for them, they are cool little fish but they’re so aggressive you can’t even keep other fish with them unless you’re okay with it getting eaten.
I caught 6 mix of yellow and brown bullhead pending on area. Late summer early fall look under rocks at Shute you will find them. They make great pet fish and live 15 plus years. Have not found a store bought food they really like been feeding mine live worm pieces and tiny pieces of scallops

I got a baby Bullhead last june while trout fishing. At first I thought it was a tadpole, less than a half an inch long. Just scooped it up in about 4" of water. He's well over 6" now and very comfy in a 20 gal long tank. Since they stick to the bottom I try to get longer, wider tanks rather than taller. Considering cutting down a 55 gal, make it about a foot and a half high.
Just bought some minnows for fishing and I took a minnow out about to put it on my hook only to realize they accidentally had a baby bullhead in there. Its now sitting in its own huge tank because I couldnt stand to kill a creature that would grow so big. Beautiful fish.
