Hm… ive had a baby bullhead for like four months now, (his name is salsa because i brought him home in a salsa jar) and he doesnt seem to have grown any more than 1/2 an inch… should i be concerned? Do i need to feed him different foods? Is it tank size?
Id say each bullhead is going to be slightly different when it comes to growth, I fed my bullhead probably 2 times a day, what size tank do you have him in?
I need a bit of help, please. I caught a baby black bullhead (around 9/10 of an inch). I want to put him in a 29 gallon fish tank, however, I do not know if he will outgrow the tank, or stay a size depending on the tank. Can anyone help?
@@BullTerrierChild he should fit in that tank pretty well for around a year, but after that I would look to buy a bigger tank.
@@jonathanricketts3838 Ok, thank you! What tank size should be after the 29? Maybe a 50-75?
@@BullTerrierChild yeah 55-80 something like that
@@jonathanricketts3838 ok, great, thank you so much! You helped me a lot!
Omg this video is so cute!! I’ve had bull heads in my tanks for over 30 years!!! They are adorable!! I have a 12 inch one right now!!! ❤❤❤
I caught mine as a baby under a small bridge and the water stopped flowing years ago so there is just a small water pocket that had many pond species bass bluegill catfish perch I caught a baby perch n two catfish the one catfish that lived his name is bane killed the perch n the other catfish n ate them now he’s alone in his own tank he was prob about 2 inches just born been a year n couple months later he’s 6.8 inches gonna move him in a bigger tank prob by the end if this year but he’s my favorite I feed him the best stuff n his tank is so easy to clean oddly enough the tank has a lot of algae I get rid of most it all the time but I think he likes
Wosh i could get one hee in uk.england
Your catfish seems to be growing fast! I got my yellow bullhead at about 1 inch. Over a year later, now he's right around 7. Does that seem like a normal growth rate? Compared to yours I feel like that's slow
Seems slightly slow. What size tank and often do you feed him and clean the tank? I caught mine this past April as a half inch fry and he's about 6 inches already.
@@maleekskipper8366 He is in a 40 gallon right now. I feed him every night, about 8-12 Sinking Carnivore Pellets. I don't have an exact cleaning schedule, but I try to do a 30%-45% water change every two to three weeks. Ammonia test always reads 0; I've been meaning to get nitrite/nitrate test too, but don't have it yet. (I think youtube deleted my first comment, so this might show up twice, I apologize)
@ms.rattypoe1003 Sounds like you're doing everything right so far. A couple of suggestions I have would be more variety in food and time permitted, 25% water change weekly. I feed mine blood worms, fluval bug bites, pellets and catfish wafers.
I have a baby one a little smaller than yours and I was wondering how often do you feed them
Usually every other day, they eat quite a lot, for babies I would recommend frozen bloodworms
@@jonathanricketts3838 that was I have I’ve been feeding it like half a block mine is about 2 in big
@@jonathanricketts3838 another question ive tryed to look around to try and find the anwser but they are not vary active are they mine seems to sleep and just chill alot is that normal behavor for this fish
@wove-novel8716 yes that is very normal for these fish, they are usually only active while feeding
never mind he passed😞😞😞💔💔i have one yellow belly right now and he’s been thriving for about 6 days now. for the past three days i’ve been trying to catch him a friend. i caught two other yellow belly’s but they died literally an hour or two after putting them into the tank. i have a filter and plants in there and i feed him shrimp, stinky catfish bait, worms, and fish food. i’m afraid he might just pass all of a sudden like the others. should i buy more stuff to put in the tank? is there any specific things i need? i’ve looked all over the internet and not a lot of people make videos of caring for yellow belly’s. only videos of people eating them😢
This is officially a youtube classic, also 1 year without a upload and still hearting comments? Serius dedication dude, i have watched this as long as 3 years ago and i just came back because im into fishing again.
I really appreciate that, just got really busy with life, would love to get back into it, I’m planning a post here soon
thats great! Life does get busy sometimes. I bet the next upload is gonna be awesome.
im lookin to get a bullhead for my 75gal, def a cute lil sucker 😂
Cute little fella aren’t they? Yah never think at first glance that it would get so big.
this fish reminds me of my goods pal Marshy and natlonke and their evoluition into trees!!!😁😁
What do you feed them?
Night crawlers or bloodworms
So neat
Will the bullheads eat dried shrimp pellets?
They should
From your experience this fish is peaceful or aggressive, I can keep Brown bullhead together with other fish, you with what fish you keep it ?
It was pretty aggressive, so I tried to distance him from any fish smaller than him.
I honestly didnt know you could keep a bullhead as a pet I thought it was only certain fish that's really neat thow
I currently have one in my 75 gallon tank and it's pretty cool
What you feed them when there small
Blood worms
I use to have a bullhead catfish back in the early 90s named Sweatleaf. I miss him so much... 😞
sorry for your loss😞
That bull head need some where to hide there ambush predators
i just got one recently, these catfish are eating machines
Back in the 80's when i was a kid i would always find baby bullheads in the irrigation canals here in Phoenix, Az. i would set up an aquarium just like Yours and keep them as pets and give some to my friends and other kids in the neighborhood. Those where beautiful memories. i think im going to go catch a few baby bullhead set up a new tank.
Very gentle creatures, i had 2, a male and a female, every time i would clean my backyard pond they would calmly swim around my feet and i could hand feed them
I felt bad catching them for food, you feel sorry for how ugly they look but they're good for eating. I would actually love to stock them in a pond, not for eating, but because they're interesting fish, ugly but neat.
I wouldn’t say any catfish are “gentle” at least not in the wild, bullhead in particular are pretty aggressive from my experience fishing for them, they are cool little fish but they’re so aggressive you can’t even keep other fish with them unless you’re okay with it getting eaten.
What dose he eat
Mostly anything from worms to minnows
love the bullhead i dont know eny one else who does bullheads
I got a baby Bullhead last june while trout fishing. At first I thought it was a tadpole, less than a half an inch long. Just scooped it up in about 4" of water. He's well over 6" now and very comfy in a 20 gal long tank. Since they stick to the bottom I try to get longer, wider tanks rather than taller. Considering cutting down a 55 gal, make it about a foot and a half high.
How big is that tank? I’m interested in getting one
29 gallons
Bullheads grow slow
Not really, pretty quick till they get to about 8 inches
Just bought some minnows for fishing and I took a minnow out about to put it on my hook only to realize they accidentally had a baby bullhead in there. Its now sitting in its own huge tank because I couldnt stand to kill a creature that would grow so big. Beautiful fish.
What were you feeding it by hand??
Blood worms
How big is the tank
Very cool to have a pet Bullhead
Wow they grow fast
Yeah one of the fastest growing fish
2:08 what is that
Red worms
Bloodworms my bad
i have a baby bullhead catfish of about 1 week , i put an earthworm and it doesn't eat , what to feed my catfish please tell anyone.
I saved a dozen 1.5-2" channel cat from a drying creek. Put them in a 60gal tank just to see their growth rate and they are cute, before i let them go in the connecting pond. Feeding them shrimp pellets, they swarm the pellets
What you give cat fish to eat
Red worms
Jade a baby channel catfish for years in a 29 gallon tank. After years I was afraid he would be a tank buster had to let him go. I’m on the look out now for another baby about 1.5 to 2 inches but they are hard to find
I caught 6 mix of yellow and brown bullhead pending on area. Late summer early fall look under rocks at Shute you will find them. They make great pet fish and live 15 plus years. Have not found a store bought food they really like been feeding mine live worm pieces and tiny pieces of scallops
I have one that grew 1 to 1.5 inches in maybe a week or two
where did you buy it?
I didn’t buy it I got it out of a creek
Jonathan Ricketts i got one from a creek the other day but something was wrong with the water and it died but im moving my aquarium to my dads so ima do like a 90% water change then maybe buy another
Yeah that’s probably a good idea
Jonathan Ricketts is a 55 gallon big enough?
Well yes but no, in captivity that should be fine but the length they get I. Nature would be too big, so what I’m saying is you should be fine with a 55
my pet bullhead is stunted because i have him in a small tank
Oh that’s not very good
his name is garry
i real could not help it at the time because the only tank i had is a 3 gallon tank but i did save him from death he was in a puddle of a drying out creek
Yeah that’s pretty cool
he was less than a month old when i found him
what do you recommend feeding them when they are smaller then the one in the beginning of the video?
Either go with small pieces of worm or bloodworms I used to have a bullhead that was about 1 inch long and that’s what he ate
@@jonathanricketts3838 I have about 10 bullhead that are 1 inch thanks for helping me out!
Yeah no problem, and if your not subbed already you should consider it
I got one today at my grandmas lake rn he’s in my 20 gallon tank under some drift wood
That’s pretty cool broski
I got my own channel cat and he lives in a kitty pool. He love bluegill and shad
Nice man
This might be late but I kept a mini bullhead from a scoop of minnows I got. I’ve had it for 2 years now and it eats regular fish food do you know of any other things I can feed it?
Really anything natural these guys will eat
Damn that was quick thanks.
Dude feed it bluegill, minnows, crawfish and worms, my pet bullhead loves crawfish he always eats them first. Or some crawfish pellets from petco they like tht or dried shrimp from Walmart they will rlly eat anything tho
There fun to hold slimy and soft it's cool and I stuck my finger in the ones mouth I caught today like 6 in fat one and they got a hard chomper sucker power clamped down hard
He's in my bedroom tank I got a big horned creek chub and two saygeye I caught there about 9 in long super cool fish
Tried to order a blue catfish, bass, blue gill value pack off the internet and it's been a month no sign of them I keep getting told it can't be shipped to me but I got a gluper catfish shipped to me in one day... dont buy from gk happy farms
I’m sorry for you man and I will definitely not do that
I had 2 bull head one about a pinky size and one about half and the big one ate the small one so now i have one
Yeah they can be like that sometimes, and I’m sorry to hear that
How u heart so fast i just commented
And how ur so big after a montg i had my for a year and he about as big as the 3rd week
GamingWithLoucks gone I guess I just fed him a lot
what do you feed ?
Worms and minnows
