Great camera shots on this run. You move Orwell through traffic like a boss. I had a friend that drove into Hunt's Point back in the late '70's to the early '80's and he stated that crime was high and you got in and out and didn't hang around. Thanks for the ride.
At about the 4 minute mark, he was on the Mianus Bridge in Greenwich. In about ‘82, a COE hit the abutment southbound, both drivers went thru the windshield, over the rail fell 80’ to the river on foggy early morning. A guy was muttering out to go fishing when he heard these two splashes. Rescued them both. A couple years later, a whole span of the bridge collapsed with 7 dead.
Had to go to the Bronx Terminal Market on 9-12. Cops were everywhere, obviously. They checked my license at the end of the exit ramp onto the surface street. Was such a sad time to be in the city. Was nice to have all the cops around, though. Everyone was nice to each other for once. I used to like to go to Hunts Point when I was young and adventurous 😅.
This isn't Hollywood and yes, there are no movie stars! Just the TH-cam make believe world with an incredible amount of legends in their own mind. But definitely fun to watch!
It was really cool meeting you and Tim the other day in Lamar PA .I delivered at HuntsPoint that morning reloaded in Jersey City and was heading to Sioux city IA when I seen you guys it made my day I run north east alot hopefully will run into you again would love to see Orwell in person be safe keep up the cool content
It's like that in every damn city, even Cincinnati, where I live 20 minutes away from. The same people everyday, who don't know how to drive in the city, but they've been doing it for decades.
So true about how when it comes to doing work, and doing good work, it gets 'real' in a hurry. The other side of the equation is that you have to be willing to pay real money to a real mechanic. Of course this is always going to depend on how much real experience, knowledge, and ability they have. If they expect to be able to walk in and have you train them, babysit them, hold their hand, that's an entirely different matter. I've seen situations like that where it cost an owner more time and money to train someone than to just do the work themselves. Not worth it. People can pat themselves on the back all day long about how they did someone a favor, or made the world a better place for teaching someone, but at the end of the day it's poor business, and nothing more than virtue signaling to feel better about the bad decision. So many TH-cam content creators today expect to get work done for them for free in exchange for mentioning a person, or a business on their channel. Sometimes that can work out for the person donating the free labor, materials, but often it doesn't get them anything.
Been down through there many times. I’m in Boston and when I have to go to Philly I will leave Boston at 1 am. If everything goes good I’m across the bridge by 4:30 at the latest.
Let me know when you want to talk. What the best way to get in touch with each other is. I watch your shit all the time. I do similar work with the high flat , step decks , double drop etc.
I love your videos, however unfortunately I live in the Bronx and I’m not a fan of the Cross Bronx Exprwy. When I was doing FDNY EMS,I responded to many truck crashes in my 26 years of service. I drove Tractor Trailers OTR part-time too. I started out 42 years ago driving Kenworth K100 Cabover hauling frozen foods. I Love my Cabovers and I miss driving them. Safe travels my Friend!
back in the 80's it was bad news to be in hunts point lots of trouble out there...I was out there and long Island just about every week I had long hair and a beard and ear rings back then most people stayed away from me
I used to commute weekly from central Jersey to Stamford for work (I now work remotely for the same company). On Fridays when I drove home I would avoid the Cross Bronx at all costs because it was perpetually congested, but that was before the pandemic. In March 2020 I managed to transit the CBX in 5 minutes, because it was empty and only 5 miles long. Before, it was at least 40 minutes to transit it because of traffic. It's interesting that the traffic was so light when Orwell crossed it, I guess the pandemic permanently changed the traffic flow there.
I know a lot of guys won't run that 95 quarter once they find out what it's like. The best time to go through there is between midnight and 3:00 a.m., after that you want to be headed out of the five boroughs. When I used to drive down there i would stay out of New York and use the tappan Zee Bridge. Besides they just rebuilt the Tappan Zee Bridge. I used to stay away from new York City like the plague whenever I could unless i had business in one of the five boroughs. Staten Island i always came in from the New Jersey side. I would make sure you had a good GPS on you too, i've always used the Garmin other people used Rand McNally. A cell phone GPS realize on the cell towers. A good GPS relies mainly on satellite. Some of the newer ones do both. I'm saying this because you don't want to get stuck on a parkway in New York city. Some idiot back in the 20s and 30s thought they would build low bridges for their cute little Parkways.
95 in connecticut when its meets the new york line and continues south to the cross bronx expy is called the new england thruway 15 miles down to the cross bronx then 6 miles to the G W bridge that 6 miles could take 2 hrs LOL 😮😮
Steve, clarification of what you said at the 10:40 point on the tolls. It is either billed by mail to the address registered with DMV or, if the vehicle has E-ZPASS, it would be either at the discounted rate (if at a toll agency within the same state of the issuing agency) or the cash rate for out-of-state users.
Excellent video I enjoy your camera work when you run through New York city. True story I had a team run with Coors beer in golden co to L.A. then reload in Watsonville California fresh garlic full load to hunts point which was a bad place in the 80, s. We always had a dock crew that was fast and we found out that if we had a few cases of extra Coors beer we would have no problems in or out because the guy that ran the crew and many others and we never saw him just heard his name was a guy by the name of John Gotti. There where many other freight lines that got special treatment. True story if a Coors transportation truck got any hassle on the point just mention that name. I ran that route until COORS TRANSPORTATION shut down. That Coors beer went to the boss above Gotti back then he only ran the multiple crews back then.
I realized that nowadays it is difficult to find someone to teach and it is equally difficult to find someone who has the desire to learn... Society's progress goes often backwards. I guess it's not easy to drive in New York and in such big urban areas, In Palermo they drive in this sick way. No blinker, passing from the right lane... driving with no rules and a lot of presumption. 😅 Greetings Steve.
I used to go to Hunts Point before the fences went up and it was very dangerous place to go. A lot of theives and conmen hung around there 😅and lots of prostitutes who were unclean and unhealty. Drugs abounded. Lots of filth and trash everywhere. I dont know what brought on the change but the last time l went there around 1978 it had been cleanrd up and the fences had errected and there was a gate with gaurds. All were welcome changes. I was drving a 1967 K100 Kenworth with a 300 Cummins. In Forty six years one sees many changes.
Steve - Good luck in this neck of the woods. I live in Southern CT. Do you know how Bridgeport Ct was founded? Someone gave New York City an enema and Bridgeport was born…… Stay safe.
You have that right I live in Torrington sometimes if there in a hurry I will move over to let them by Don’t like to head down there that often they are a bunch of idiots
Hunts Point sucks big time. I had guys try to break into my trailer when i stopped at the lights. You have to keep pulling up and then let the truck roll back a little again, keep it moving or they will have a chance to cut the lock and open your doors without you even knowing until some body calls on the radio to tell you your doors are open.
Last time you were in the Big Apple was in the late Summertime if I remember right because I remember watching the video of you going over the George Washington at early sunset.
Hey Man! "Traveling those roads. I know how much mental reactions/reflex. To Driving a truck. Specially. "Up! Northern states. (Watching brake checks Left/Right and down the center too! (Safe travel Man
Kreilkamp trucking inc. Is what I'm pretty sure he was saying he hauled a reefer w thier loads. Trucking company from Allenton WI. Not far from company he works under now.
Cross Bronx runs from that point until the Alexander Hamilton bridge. (Cross Bronx doesn’t actually goto the GWB, at Alexander Hamilton bridge it becomes the TRANS MANHATTAN EXPRESSWAY from there to the bridge)
@mess-age_me_FSC_Trucking I couldn't see it in the footage but you said that your Stacks didn't hit the bridge so the sign is marked wrong I run around the Buffalo New York area and some of their bridges are marked from the curb to the underside of the bridge especially if the bridge has a curve underneath it I don't know if that's true in New York City I'm just going by what I've experienced when I went through trucking school 30 plus years ago I was told that most bridges in New York state are marked a foot under than what they actually are
Delivered Hunts Point in the 70's and while I didn't have any issues there, the South Bronx was tough on the streets. Not a fun place, but I guess now, it's a fortress.
Just pass exit 7 in New York. I had a hard top Jeep pass me. He hit an oil spot lost control and hit the median wall and flipped it over to the roof and started sliding down the road. I didn’t need to brake hard. He came to a stop 🛑 as I slowed traffic to a stop ✋. He had new snow tires that looked to be over inflated. Just saying.
We all still call them by their original names. Last time i was in hunts point was during covid, was like a ghost town except for the trash companies rolling out
Don’t miss New Yuck one bit ! Left in 1984. Best move ever!
Steve, We need a tour of the cab, what all the switches, levers, and gauges do. Great channel!!
Great camera shots on this run. You move Orwell through traffic like a boss. I had a friend that drove into Hunt's Point back in the late '70's to the early '80's and he stated that crime was high and you got in and out and didn't hang around. Thanks for the ride.

Respect you OTR drivers. You keep America rolling.

Working/w Tim Gentry ". We/I" respect you as... You/your -time.! Well. Appreciated time. Watched
God bless you that you made it through the hellscape

Absolutely. Good to see ya!
That’s my neck of the woods born and raised
It sure looks like many people wear out a set of brakes fast. On the gas, on the brakes, on the gas, on the brakes. Never just let it roll. 🤪
It's like that in every damn city, even Cincinnati, where I live 20 minutes away from. The same people everyday, who don't know how to drive in the city, but they've been doing it for decades.
The Throgs neck, the Verrazano all those bridges will be the same to me, at least growing up in queens New York!!! safe travel, Steve!!!
Great camera shots. That just you .outstanding.
Cool seeing Orwell in the tri state area.
I live in Boston I have been trucking on this route since 1991. I have crossed the bridge over 10,000 times

Thanks for the ride Steve. Always love the driving videos.
Lived about 2 miles from I-95 in Fairfield County CT for years. So glad I don't have to deal with that mess anymore.
Used that service plaza plenty of times in my years up in the Northeast. 😊
Been down through there many times. I’m in Boston and when I have to go to Philly I will leave Boston at 1 am. If everything goes good I’m across the bridge by 4:30 at the latest.

It's a small world Steve relatives in Brooklyn. Stay safe. Great shots. You the man.
That run of I-95 is the New England Thruway, the Bruckner Expressway and the Cross Bronx. Should probably take I287 over the Tappan Zee.
I could have. But I figured the end of New Years weekend traffic would be light.
Always avoid the cross Bronx !!!!
It didn't look too bad compared to how it is most of the time.@@fsctrucking
I don't think he wants to cross the Tappan Zee Bridge, they tore it down after they built the Mario Cuomo bridge next to it.
@@thomasdragosr.841its still the tappen zee, screw what coumo did😂
I love your videos, however unfortunately I live in the Bronx and I’m not a fan of the Cross Bronx Exprwy.

Morning Steve
I love the sounds of Orwell and the sounds are amazing
back in the 80's it was bad news to be in hunts point lots of trouble out there...I was out there and long Island just about every week I had long hair and a beard and ear rings back then most people stayed away from me
Playland Parkway...I spent many Friday nights cruising that strip.

I truely love those Orwell camera shots, especially in the night.
Thanks for sharing Steve. Greetings and cheers from Paris, France.
Steve, What a great picture for the thumbnail! Really helps show just how tall Orwell is! Stay safe out there!
Very interesting ride thank you.
95 in connecticut when its meets the new york line and continues south to the cross bronx expy is called the new england thruway 15 miles down to the cross bronx then 6 miles to the G W bridge that 6 miles could take 2 hrs LOL 😮😮
Just think 40 years ago driving a brand spanking new Orwell black black leather it was bad ass at that time. you keep that classic 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
The Darien to Greenwich section is horrid to say the least. As a local driver there is nothing I dread more than that run !!! Stay safe buddy !!!
yep, really to the state line, and that's on a good day...
I do my best to stay off 95 in CT....
i wish i could it see owell driving thrw Bronx ny .. in person
The Cross Bx just have mad traffic due to the GWB, it's not that long.
Quick runs are the best there. No stopping.
led lights on orwell be the best
Steve I like the jazz music in this video.very classy sounding it is
I loved living in New York back in the 70s on w190 st

Hello Steve. Looks like the channel is growing a bit. Great job. Keep on growing and doing your thing. From Saskatchewan Canada.
watching from Regina,great channel.
That 3406 c (I think) sounds so good running through the city
It's a 3406B. But I agree, sounds great!
Used to deliver to Welch's in Westfield NY. way back when...had a 75 KW with a smooth bore tanker.
Orwell made me do it!
Love the sound of that ole cat
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary and the music. Thanks for sharing stay safe Steve.
I used to live up there I know exactly what you're dealing with
its a freightliner cab over for sale.
Driver, back in the 60s' there was a toll plaza @ every exit along that I-95 stretch, Drive safe in the Jungle
When I Ran straight truck for United Van Lines I liked going to New York
Love that above driver door view best evet
I95 in CT is always backed up
Did anyone ever change lanes into your trailer? it slings pretty low in the mid section
Great video Steve great to see you close to my home love you you videos 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I thought Minnesota drivers were bad. New York is on a different level. Im glad I have no plans to go anywhere near NYC.
Drive I-80 back and forth between where I live now...and where my lady friend lives in Nebraska. Keep hoping I might see Orwell. )
Nice ride brother thanks take care be safe 🙏. Hope yalls having fun with ol gentry he posted a pic not shure what happend though
I'd say that I miss running 95 thru the city but yeah I'd be lieing
Love the content stay safe out there

Darien CT truck stops I’m well familiar with I go up that way most of the time trucking
The Hellhole of the east Cross Bronx Expressway.

Gaggin the Lolly! Looks no different than Beltway 8 around Houston 🧐
Great camera work Steve!
Mine where raised in st johnsbury and Brandon Vermont
Happy new year Steve. Best to you and family
Once again, great camera work! Thanks Steve
Been long time since I went thru NY in a cabover Road Commode (early 80s)
Hey Steve, great camera work! You said that you were rolling into Huntsville in a curl can. I believe what’s a curl can!
Kreilkamp trucking inc. Is what I'm pretty sure he was saying he hauled a reefer w thier loads. Trucking company from Allenton WI. Not far from company he works under now.
Some things you have to do love it
At 19:16 that split is where the Cross Bronx starts. 😊
Nope that’s still the Buckner expressway section, doesn’t become cross Bronx until he keep right at 20:01 .
Cross Bronx runs from that point until the Alexander Hamilton bridge. (Cross Bronx doesn’t actually goto the GWB, at Alexander Hamilton bridge it becomes the TRANS MANHATTAN EXPRESSWAY from there to the bridge)
What do you think of drivers that drive down the road and constantly touch their brake lights? You think they could drive at a consistent speed?
Some Bridge height signs are from the curb to the underside of the bridge
@mess-age_me_FSC_Trucking I couldn't see it in the footage but you said that your Stacks didn't hit the bridge so the sign is marked wrong I run around the Buffalo New York area and some of their bridges are marked from the curb to the underside of the bridge especially if the bridge has a curve underneath it I don't know if that's true in New York City I'm just going by what I've experienced when I went through trucking school 30 plus years ago I was told that most bridges in New York state are marked a foot under than what they actually are
The kid in u is alive n well the gw used to have holes u could. throw a Winnebago sideways thru was 50 bucks then too
Steve you might want to check the oil in your rear ends
You sounded like Charlie Trucker at the beginning. “How bout’ it!” Good shit 👍
That left lane crap was just that 23 yrs ago. If everyone would e-mail/call their Representatives, maybe a change could happen??
Hey my frend i am well into the 2 millon mile + club i know what its like thx keep it up
Delivered Hunts Point in the 70's and while I didn't have any issues there, the South Bronx was tough on the streets. Not a fun place, but I guess now, it's a fortress.
I'm right here.
I live in CT
Wondering why you would choose to come down to 95 and have to deal with NYC
I would have stayed on 84 into NY, 87 to 287 instead
It is so true that NY is the imperial state. I love living in upstate NY but.
Good steve
If they're in the right lane, they can go as slow as they like.
We all still call them by their original names. Last time i was in hunts point was during covid, was like a ghost town except for the trash companies rolling out
