Nice video Alan. Towel rail is always an easy option! I usually siphon the water out from the vent with a small hose. No need to disconnect the valve then 👍 Love the videos pal
You absolute legend Allen, i was worrying about making some sort of contraption to fill it sideways into the rad but i can use upstairs towel rail!!! Cheers
I'm just about to change my bathroom radiator to one like in your video. So thought I'll be adding the inhibitor. Do I need any of the following as well X2000 Noise Reducer and when/how do you use One Visit Flushing System? Thanks
Hi Alan, great videos. I have a question. My boiler is three years old.when I took out a service policy I was told I needed to have installed cleaner to prevent sludge. The fitter put some “protector” into the boiler (Ideal). He told me it would be fine doing it this way. He didn’t drain any water. Your comments would be appreciated.
Good morning Allan First of all I must thank you for your educational and helpful videos . I have been watching your videos for nearly nearly 2 years since I started my Gas Course .I passed in October last year I love your method of work and want to learn more from you .I was wondering if you need a gas safe engineer to work for you, please let me know if you have any vacancies, I live in Berkshire. Thanks again
Hi Allen, as the air vent is being removed anyway, could you just syphon the water out of the top with a short hose? Then there's 1 less thing thats been fiddled with, so less chance of a leak after
Quick question I want to add fernox through a filling loop on a boiler. Do I need to drain the system first before I put the fernox in, similar to the way you do it through a filter?
I assume if you use the same funnel to fill up your radiator with water after pouring in your inhibitor there will be no need to re-pressurise the system. Makes sense?
Does it matter if I use a different inhibitor than what is allready in the system? I read online in a few places that its a big no no to mix them. Do I need to re add inhibitor if im taking off radiators to decorate? I live in a ground floor flat also so I don't have a high point to add the inhibitor if its needed
hi allen , there is te piece on double panel radiators thats why its impossible to add without that 'express' on your hand ..I add into return line bottom of boiler by using flexible funnel. if there is towel rail no prb ) thanks for sharing
How much Inhibitor do you use..? on the containers the product comes in it states eg use 500ml to to treat 125L I for one dont know how many liters of water is in my system.. would be helpful if you gave some guidance on dosage.. for example 8 rads use 500ml as a geners rule of thumb..!! Happy new year
Inhibitor is supposed to stop the copper in the pipes reacting with the steel in the radiators and turning them into magnetite sludge which blocks the system.
I like your towel rail with the piping coming out of the wall, makes it a very clean job. With ours the pipes come up through the floor like usual so makes a rite old mess when draining g some water out. Do you recommend an actual inhibitor your self that you use? I last put some of Screwfix own brand in. But have used the sentinel in the past.
@@AllenHart999 cheers Allen. I prefer the sentinel one purely because there's a litre in it the others have less for a similar price, and it's a trusted brand isn't it. Not sure if there's a reason mind for the others having half the amount? I had drained my system down a few weeks ago and put fresh sentinel in, then discovered the system was really noisy when heating came on in the piping making glugging noises like there was trapped air or something but no radiators needed bleeding in the end was forced to drain it back out what a waste! So got a cheaper Screwfix bottle due to cost ha....whatever happened though was sorted when drained and refilled the second time no glugging this time.
@@AllenHart999 what are your opinion on something like sentinel x400 cleaner? Have you any experience using this or similar ones you just put in the system and leave in for a few days then drain?
Careful with new modern TRV's on towel rads, even when closed to their OFF setting (frost symbol) they don't shut the water off to the radiator as they dont push the little pin in the TRV carcass all the way that stops the water so there's pressure continually getting into the radiator. Always best with the new TRV's to unscrew the securing ring to release and take off the thermostatic head from the TRV base, find or borrow the plastic blanking cap that came with the unit, and screw that on firmly in it's place so it pushes the pin and stops the water/pressure. Then after checking the other side valve is fully closed, then the towel rad can be bled with a bleed key and top sealed nuts loosened.
Once I noticed the mess someone's made of chasing in the wiring for that Nest thermostat, I couldn't pay attention to the rest of the videos. That will haunt my dreams.
Nice video Alan.

I have never even thought about doing that. Great idea though. Thanks.
I agree, good idea! Got a giant syringe that'll do the job, will do next time. Cheers!
👍
500ml suction syringe by sealey looks ideal :)
Wow thats an amazing idea. Every day is a school day.

Thank you 🙏
Best channel I have come across for a long time. Especially as you are from leeds
Thank you for your kind words.
nice tip Allen, would not have thought of doing into towel rad but that makes it much more simple than normal rad, cheers

Hi Allen good to see you doing the videos again another good one happy new year.
Thank you, Happy new year to you and your family.
Cheers Allen. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience. 👍🏾
Thank you.

great video allan, so good to see. Can i ask, how much inhibitor should you put into a system on a new build (5 years old) 3 bed semi detached house?
how long do those inhibitors last? in other words.... how often should I flush and re-apply? thanks
Annually, supposedly.
Good video as always! If we add the inhibitor in would this also run-through underfloor water based pipes too as well as the radiator pipes? Thanks
Yes
@@alang7846 that's probbaly a bad thing right?

Most bottles say they treat about 10 rads i believe. Thanks.
Yep , normally the 500ml bottle for 8-10 rads :)
Any reason you cant just add this straight into a TF1 with the lid off? It'll find it's way to all the rad in time? Cheers
You can if you have one. Thanks.
Brilliant Alan thanks mate 👍
Will this travel through the whole underfloor heating?
Yes.
Hi allen so whats inhibitor needed for or doing for the heating system iv never put any in my system as of yet never had an issue
If you flush the system well to start with then in my opinion you will have less issues with or without inhibitors. What boilers do you fit. Thanks.
Inhibitor is supposed to stop the copper in the pipes reacting with the steel in the radiators and turning them into magnetite sludge which blocks the system.
I've have this ago, but when draining only about 200ml came out ? Should be have ran my central heating system first to fill it up?
For anyone that has this same problem, if you move to the other side and slacken the nut on that side you will get more water out.
hi Allen! Happy New year mate! 👍
Thank you buddy same to you.
Hi my towel rail is rusting badly at the joins. It’s only 2 years old. Any ideas to why this happens? Ta
Might need a plumber to come out and take a look at it.
You could always fill inhibitor from a filter or using a dosing kit. Cheers Allen
Lots and lots of ways, this is just a few of them. Thanks for watching.
No thank you for doing a great job
And another great video Allen just done ours
Thanks for watching.
My boiler is 15 years old and i never performed any maintenance on it ! still working😀
You say that as if it’s a good thing?
I think so never got any problem at all
How often should you top up/add inhibitors to your central heating system?
Is there a dosage requirement for the given size of a system.
+crazygeorgelincoln Normally tells you on the bottle. Most are around 10 rads. Thanks
Got to give it to ya good video
Thank you.

Far easier if someone has a magnaclean to turn its valves off, open the lid and sponge out its contents then top up with inhibitor.
