    It seems easier to just ad a ltr of quality inhibitor on every service that you perform with existing customers and offer the service with a new customer as a different tier to your servicing levels, at the end of the day if they don't want the extra expense there is nothing you can do just like if they don't want you to strip their boiler if the combustion ratio readings are within manufactures spec. documented service work and a signature is the way forward just like a gas safety cert.

    • @patrickoregan7102
      @patrickoregan7102 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a query, would you at risk the boiler if it's combustion readings were not to mi's spec and customer didn't want strip down to resolve?

    Just a way for the manufactures to get out of a warranty breakdown for me, I shall be doing the tests on in warranty services and new installs, but regards boilers that have been in for years with no warranty, I won’t be, isn’t it more about the boiler safety, if it means having to charge extra and possibly putting people of having a boiler service, it’s having a detrimental effect on the industry, and the publics safety.

    Hi Derek, as always fantastic video now we know much more, thanks. I always tell my engineers use TWO bottles because over dose is good under dose waste of time and money, when we drain down to replace a water part refill with F2 / X200 SILENCER, yes that's what it should be. Might see you today or tomorrow, regards, George Staszak

    Fernox used to produce a more sophisticated test kit, which was like miniature chemistry set, it was more involved than dipping test strips, I used them for QC work, but to test the tester, I would send some samples to the Fernox laboratory. Another very informative, interesting and useful video.

    I'll just point out that there is nothing in part L regarding testing inhibitor levels on servicing or repair work, just on new installations. When inhibitors are added upon commissioning part L states that BS 7593 should be followed. However BS 7593 does state that inhibitor levels need to be checked upon commissioning and annually thereafter. I noticed that the benchmark servicing checklist in boiler MIs were updated a while back to ask if the inhibitor has been checked according to BS 7593. If it's not done, or false info given, it could affect the customers warranty. Apart from that, handy video.

    I do a few tests for a manufacturer. Every test i do comes back with no Inhibitor,even the ones where u can smell it in the water . Unless it has the chemical that the test company want to see then alot of people could have thrre warranty revoked for no reason. I actually tested pure inhibitors from the bottle on a few inhibitor brands and they all say no Inhibitor on the fernox and procheck . Maybe they should have a colour in the inhibitor, darker to lighter shades to show the concentration of the inhibitor . Instead of picking up the chemical.

    Great work thank you, makes it all a lot clearer, thank you. I once put the wrong inhibitor in a system, which I didnt know there was such a thing and it reacted with the heat exchanger and produced air in the system which was very unusual given it was a sealed system. Manufacturer pointed out my mistake, so flushed etc and used the correct inhibitor and all solved, bit of a learning experince that one was.

    • @gasnewbie1941
      @gasnewbie1941 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How would you know it’s the wrong inhibitor other than being told by the manufacturer? Once I put in an inhibitor which seemed to cause problems within the boiler but I think it had issues before.

    • @yourplumbingpal1225
      @yourplumbingpal1225 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gasnewbie1941 ye the manufacturers engineer said it wasnt on their recommended list in the MI's and that was how ro chose. I had just picked up some at the merchants as I picked up the boiler and never gave it a thought. I always leave the empty bottle with a date when I used it near any boiler and that was how I think he was able to so quickly say what was wrong. I have to say I had fitted over 100 of the boilers and this only happened once but have no idea exactly what inhibitor I used on them all. Every day is a learning day eh, I certainly found it unusual , seems some react with aluminium heat exchangers and that is what causes the gas build up or air in the system. It was producing a lot of air over just a day or two. Glad it was a family member as it means I didnt look too stupid haha.

    I’d love these companies to explain why they only have shelf life of 1 year in a sealed container, but can have a life of greater than 1 year when opened and diluted into a CH system. That’s not sarcasm, I am truly curious…….

  • @MrRawMonkey
    @MrRawMonkey 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    sentinel website states X100 has an indefinite shelf life if the seal is intact.

    Good intuitive video but personally I’m not at all concerned with what another engineer may find or get different results on a different day after my visit as it’s only going to be good at the time of testing a bit like an mot on your car only says it passed/ safe at that point in time! if someone drains down to remove a rad ect a day later the test results is going to be different.

    I can see the previous engineer getting stick, what's to say the customer had radiators changed by a non regustered plumber between services.

    I just add Fernox F1 every 2 or 3 years as you can’t overdose via a Magnaclean. I just sponge out a litre and add a litre. My CH water runs clear.

    Can think of a few instances over the years where I've had the manufacturers out. They then mention system debris blah blah blah.
    It was only the fan that had gone.
    Bring back 2 year warranties.
    I've said this time and time again on a forum I'm on, long warranties don't benefit the industry at all......
    Remember, I said industry, not end users.

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Completely agree with you and these long warranties should be given to the installer not the customer so if you don’t service the boiler then the customer gets 2 years but if you look after the boiler then the customer gets 5 years.

    Hello mate, do you have to use the pro check or can you just use the quick test strips as cheaper

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess as long as you can prove you have tested it you can use any of the test if you create a report

    • @andybradshaw5971
      @andybradshaw5971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomkatgastraining A dipstick can only find the chemical it was designed to find. A strip designed to find Molybdate won't find Sodium Nitrate, so it will give a negative even though there is a perfectly good NSF approved inhibitor present.

      For peace of mind sending it to a lab but I am impressed with Adey and scalemaster tests. I think it’s very important that engineers make it clear what inhibitors they have put into the system or just add a bottle on every service to cover your arse

  • @YoutubeHero666
    @YoutubeHero666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So only the good engineers are going to do this the others might think I'll take the test add some clean water and a bit of inhibitor and get a pass then they can say it was clean when tested look I have proof!
