You can pick up one of the Monster Editions, the final volume, for retail on B&N’s website, but the bulk of them are unavailable and are only for sale on aftermarket sites, like eBay or Mercari right now. Considering how popular the manga is/was in the anglo market I am shocked that the monster editions are out of print/so hard to find

Tokyo Ghoul was popular for a time, which is when I imagine these monster editions released, but it quickly lost reverence in the anime community likely because of the release of Root A. Not only did it lose popularity but Tokyo Ghoul became known as a bad anime overall and that reputation wasn’t helped by the release of the Re adaptation. If you look, it’s usually only popular or critically acclaimed manga/anime’s which get oversized editions (e.g. Berserk, Vinland Saga, Attack on Titan). While there are people saying that the manga is better, saying that isn’t really going to cause any kind of massive change in the perception of Tokyo Ghoul as it’s still considered an edgy, trash anime which is only good for memes; simply because manga isn’t as popular as anime in the west. I assume that the publisher just didn’t see the point in printing a second, more costly, edition of a manga series that has such a negative perception around it.

In India the box set is currently available for rs 6583, which roughly amounts to 80 dollars.
I've sometimes seen it listed at 2500 rupees.... Are those counterfeits?

actually just ordered the tokyo ghoul box set today as my first box set ever, i only own a single volume of one piece and an omnibus of one piece as well. very excited to have a complete set. and have wanted to read tokyo ghoul for YEARS now.
Just got super lucky and got issues 4-14 for under 60 bucks from 2nd & Charles! Looking for a few other issues and I’ll have fully collected them but I’ll always be on the lookout for the monster editions!!

Ive recently started to get Into anime, having watched some like black lagoon, Castlevania, Taradora and studio Ghibli as a child. I felt as a child people laughed at me, thinking it's childish and geeky which put me off and made me feel immature I guess. Now as I'm older I realise the love and creativity with anime and even more so MANGA!! Should I buy this manga first or the Series?

I individually purchased each volume and… it was definitely a mistake; I should’ve gotten the box set. Got the box set for re: and it was MUCH cheaper. I had no idea about the Monster Edition and now want those. 🥴

I got pretty far in the anime (I may have even finished it) but I hated it. I hated the teenage mellow drama. Everyone says the manga is so much better. Given that I hate teenage mellow drama is it still worth giving the manga a shot?

So I’m circling back I remember to you loved Usamaru Furuya No Longer Human Complete Edition- just finished it . Believe it or not there’s an American pseudo version of this as a film: Requiem For A Dream directed by Daron Aronovsky( The Foundation, Black Swan) staring Jennifer Connelly . I’ll grab the preview for you it’s basically so realistic and bleak about the nihilistic horrors of addiction- the film is so bone chilling you owe it to yourself to watch at least once to see what the buzz is about ; there hasn’t been a film so hopeless since it’s all about Disneyfication and I HATE simpleton sentimentality which they mass produce I avoid them for health reasons . 😱🤡
