Using an old £1000 ($1300) Gaming PC For The First Time In 10 Years...

  • This Mesh gaming system was built nearly a decade ago, used for a year or so and then put into storage until I bought it a couple of days ago. What lays within this time capsule of components, and does it still work after all these years out of action?
Well let's open it up , clean it up and take an in depth look at what's inside!
    Thanks for watching :)

    • @MichaelFlatman
      @MichaelFlatman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Zurc not really, minecraft uses, or did use 512mb. Still 2gb filling the ram, but windows 7 can survive on 1gb of ram. (I've had a laptop like that with 1gb of ram and it was OK performance). Although his recording software might be causing some stutters also

Still better than a PS3 I repaired. Every square inch was filled with dust, yet it still worked before cleaning. It ran for about 5 minutes before the fan ramped up to 100% and then I used it for about 15 minutes longer. I didn't fancy carrying on, but it was pretty impressive when the PSU had a coating of dust on it and thick clumps on the coils.

Be very careful what kind of a brush you use to clean those pcbs with. Brushing can generate a static charge and potentially fry some delicate components. Also try to always disassemble cpu and gpu coolers to be able to really clean them out. In some cases, when they are really filthy, using a can of compressed air can push all that dust inside the heatsink effectively clogging it. It may look clean on the surface but always make sure you get all the dust out.

He says in the video the best way to clean dust etc from computers is cans of compressed air but i wouldn't recommend them due to the liquid that is in the can even when right side up the can still sprays some of it out which can short out components and or the whole system, i see this happen daily when people in offices try to cleanout laptops by spraying it into their laptop via fan vents. i would recommend an air compressor with an Particulate filter water trap separator, they aren't super expensive if you buy small ones even electric ones and will save you money compared to compressed air cans in the long run.

It goes to show you good the last-gen console were when they came out they run games as good or even then this PC that was $1000 when 360 and PS3 were new its quite impressive that it still worked though similar to a console you can get it out of the storage and play

Your videos are always very good. You bring so many things. Can you make a video on how to upgrade a Dell Inspiron laptop to perform well in gameplay.

I think you should do these benchmarks again but with more RAM. I want to see what this is absolutely capable of since it looked to be doing pretty well for its age. :)

I enjoy longer videos as theres more in depth content about it though i would enjoy some more fancy editing, would give your videos a nice polish, like possibly an intro n outro title screen etc.

With a little bit of some second hand upgrades and about $200 you can get that thing up and running with new titles like Farcry 5. Right now I'm typing on my core 2 Quad 9550 with 8GB RAM and a GTX 960 and I have a video here on youtube playing Farcry 5 at playable frame rates and 1600x900 high settings (native res of the monitor). Last week I found a bunch of Q9650 for $50 (which I picked one up for a future build) and a few Q9550's for $24. RAM though is a hit and miss on price but 4GB is a good start but 8GB is ideal. Toss a GT 1030 or 1050 and you will be on your way to gaming on a socket 775 with a intel quad 9 series which, almost kind of, hold up to todays standards on windows 10. Hell I was able to play Final Fantasy 15 on this machine.

Yep, in those days e6600 was just as expensive as an i7 today. 2gb ram was a bit more than the cpu. 1300£ is what i payed too, but a 7900gt

A long beep when booting is most of the time ram. Sometimes it's the cpu but then it are shorter beeps.

Wow, 190W on the 5v and 204W on the 12v - save that PSU for powering a 5v dependent retro rig.
If it wasn't used that much, how did the heatsink acquire a carpet

You might be able to drop a xeon E5450 cpu and overclock it, 8GB of ddr2 800+ mhz ram and a GTX 660 or 760 in here and you will have a sweet budget rig!

The easiest way to clean these is with compressed air, or even better one of those vacuum cleaners that have a blower + small nozzle.
First vacuum as much as you can then use the blower, mind you you may want to wear a mask or hold your breath since it often looks like a dust storm

My old pc was AMD 64 2.3Ghz dual core; 2x2Gb Ram ddr2 800mhz dual chanel; Gt 8800 512mb and I run Tomb Raider Survival 2013 at 720p/75hz on medium with some textures on high. By my fault, 8800gt had problem with ram chips - i replaced gpu with gt 730 4gb ddr5 and still good for 2015 games at HD. OS is XP 32bit.
