    Imagine in 10 years the 2080ti could be in this same recycle spot

    • @MrDox90
      @MrDox90 5 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      I don't think so. Because 4k or 8k is not at all NEEDED standard 1080p is way more than enough for most people that makes 4k capable cards relevant for many years to come. In 10 years maybe the low end 1070 or 2060 will be, but the high end ones, not so much. I think even in 10 years a 2080ti will run most games at low maybe even medium at 1080p, and will not be regarded as junk. Heck it's almost 4 years since the 10xx series launched, and I would say 1080ti is still king if you disregard RTX (which is pointless in my opinion anyway). We are currently reaching a top end limit on how much power a gpu can have. Unless we come to a big break trough in new technologies and thus make regular gpus totally obsolete, then no. I think it will be priced at least around 100ish dollars in ten years.

Before I started working there, I went to the plant and asked if I could buy any old computers, and as I was about to buy the computer parts, the owner introduced himself and I got his business card and we exchanged info, and he said there may be an opening in the future. I bought one of these brand new 10 years ago it was like $560 CAD as I recall... most I have ever spent on a GPU (doesn't seem like much these days tho) I went all in for once and it paid off that card kept up for a solid 5 years.... only reason I replaced it is because a cap fell off the board not sure how that happened... it still posted and worked but I felt it was about time for a new card about 7 years into owning it ... mine was the XFX version great card still have it!!! it did have coil whine just like yours under load and it would use upwards of 325w!!!!

    I remember that design like the back of my hand. I won a GTX 260 at a local LAN party when I was really just starting to get into PC gaming. That card kept me running for a very, very long time, and even still lives on in my parents' rig, handling The Sims like an absolute champ. Also like the lack of the sticker as well. I had the BFG card, so the sticker wasn't the worst. It was still nice to remove and have a clean reference design.

      @jessicawinnefeld2967 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The air in the cans are treated so that there is no moisture in the gas that comes out. If you used an air compressor on a computer, the moisture in the air in combination with the pressure would most likely kill the computer.

      I have a 290 (4gb), a 290x (8gb) and have tested them both with (a pair of) r9 290x(4gb)'s, tested all cards singularly and in crossfire (mixing ram sizes and core counts every way possible).
      When all clocked to 1000mhz, seriously 290 vs 390, 290x vs 390x, 4GBvs 8GB there's next to no difference (okay a 390x might be on average 5% faster but thats like 70fps vs 73fps, who cares).
      All can do 1080pUltra/1440pHigh today still, they're faster and cheaper than the 780/780ti's they competed with, best bargains ever.
      I also have a gtx1060 asus dual 6gb and have built a gtx1070SLI (founders) rig for a client so no I'm not biased.

    I've also heard people's GPUs screaming on Crysis. Strangely enough, my GTX 260 (i don't have money to upgrade, okay) also behaves odd when i'm playing on extremely high fps. Whenever i reach close to 70 fps on some games, it starts to crash, stutter and drop frames. That's why i cap my FPS to 50 whenever i play games. Looks like these old junks weren't meant for playing games at more than 30-40 fps.

    Yes, Outlast is being capped to 60 fps. You can see that the cpu and gpu usage are quite low. And yeah, that horrible coil whine usually means your card is about to die.

    9:01 My EVGA GTX 280 buzzed like that! It was a bit lower pitched and usually happened with the framerate went below 10 or above 100. I've mentioned this on another site, and someone else responded with the same issue (BFG model). It's probably an issue with the particular generation.
    I was glad when it broke some other way (cracked solder joints, maybe), and EVGA gave me a 285.

      Why run socket 775 tho? I was running tri-sli gtx 280's back in the day, and core i7 was already the name of the game, yet alone when the gtx 295 came out 6 months later

    • @anonymousone9447
      @anonymousone9447 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally it was because the gtx 285 came out in Q1 of 2008 while the core i7 came out in Q4 of 2008 and gtx 295 came out later in 2009, I was trying to build the best pc you could get with socket 775 before the new i7 released! So for ease Im labeling it the beast of 2008 though I would be wrong because of the i7 BUT I was given the cpu and needed to do something with it! Next I plan on building the Best pc u could get as of 2010 using a xeon x5650 overclocked (like the x5460) and gtx 580's in 4 way sli because I believe (and correct me if im wrong) sandy bridge wasn't actually released till Q1 2011 and the 600 series nvidia gpuz didnt release till 2011 either

    9:01 - ah, the sound of coil whine - proof that a card is being pushed to its limits, that or the inductors on the card were not the best.

    I'm always surprised at how good some of these old cards are despite their initial specs, having only just gotten into Desktop PC gaming moving from laptop gaming (what a nightmare!). The recycling centre you go to, is it a local council one? I have been trying to find something similar myself where I stay in Glasgow, but they don't seem to exist up here. I did get a GTX580 for nowt of a colleague in work, well he was going to give it to me, but I gave him a tenner, because the same guy gave me a GS 7880 AGP card years ago and I feel really guilty as it's now worth a few bob. I did manage to just win an auction for a GTX 295 for £13.50, which will hopefully arrive today. Those Seagulls have some good eating on them you know, you should have bopped in plucked it and bunged it in the oven, and made sea chicken for your tea, lol. If you are interested in how a GTX 280/285 would run without the VRM limitation, have a look at the Quadro FX 5800. It's essentially a GTX 285 with 4 GB of VRAM, albeit at a slower memory clock. I got one here for a bargain some months ago.

    I could be wrong, but I remember seeing a video on a GTX 480 being de-lidded and having a heatspreader over it. Applying some liquid metal on the bare die in between and re-seating it improved temperatures dramatically for the GPU. I wonder if that is possible with that card you got yourself. It also has me wishing I still had my old GTX 285, because that thing just continued to do well for so long for me.
