    Your most profound observation is no one should drive more than 3 hrs without a break. I welcome road trip breaks for snacks, stretching, bathroom, and charging is simultaneous.
    While owning a 500 mi Lucid, I still took a break after 2-3 hrs. And I will do the same in a 1000 mi Aptera when it arrives.

    100% agree with the do not be brand loyal. I am not sure why people feel loyalty towards corporations. The consumer should always be looking for the best product, regardless of the corporation making it.
    I also bought a Model 3 RWD, but mine was in June and between price drops and bonus savings for taking new from already built inventory, I got mine for $38,747. It would have been a grand cheaper to have done white at the time since it was the default color, but I like the blue, so I went with it. I think between the county, state, and federal rebates/tax credits I will get $8,000. I am not wealthy, so the $7500 tax credit means less to me, since I will likely get $4500.
    One unexpected bonus of the Tesla was when my AC broke at my home. I could slip into my garage and take a break from a 90 degrees interior temp in my home and let the Tesla cool my off while i watch videos and played video games. Not something I could have done with my 2012 Camry SE that it replaced.
    As far as range, on a really hot day, my range dropped to 210. That included 80MPH driving and using the interior protection cooling when I was away from the car. Tempertures were around 108. Just the other day I drove up into the California Gold Country and range ended up being about 253 miles. That did not seem bad since there was a bunch of elevation changes, but it was slower driving.
    There have been a few articles/surveys of EVs and Tesla software keeps coming out on top. I find the phone app and vehicle software to be excellent. I do not miss the physical buttons for most of the controls. The speed being displayed in the upper right of the center screen is fine as well.
    I wish my Camry had hung in there for another year, because I would likely be buying the Highland update of the Model 3. With that said, very happy with my Model 3 so far. I do agree a hatchback like the Model S would have been my one wish for the vehicle.
    I did drive a Model Y for a few days and I while I value the hatch and more space, I really think the Model 3 is a nicer ride.
    If Tesla gets around to a Tesla van, which I believe is among the 10 types of EVs Tesla has planned by 2030, I would seriously consider getting one. I think that might be the ultimate road trip vehicle.
    I do think Tesla build quality has improved a ton and it seems like Fremont is the most challenged of the factories. The praise of build quality from China nd Germany is amazing. Fremont is a modified Pontiac/NUMMI factory. I have a feeling clean sheets factory designs is helpful. Not to mention things learned in Fremont were probably used to make China and then Germany better. I believe Texas Model Y quality has been solid as well. I appreciate have the Fremont factory and it will always be a major historical footnote in the Tesla story, but I am not sure if they ever get the quality to the levels of the other factories. Since I live near the factory, I feel good I supported local labor as well as buying one of the most American vehicles you can buy in terms of parts and labor.
    Hope to see a 50,000 miles review someday from you.

    Great review! I’ve had my M3 RWD 9 and a half months. Same as you… white. And love it.
    Agree with so much of your review!!
    The range is great…. And stopping to charge gives you time to safely read and answer emails and texts, eat, take a break or take a nap! The 170 charge speed is fine! Like you, I don’t feel in any way that the charge stops make long road trips feel longer. They just don’t!
    I’m at 3% degradation and range to usually 265. I had service for rattle and tire sensor plus a flat they fixed right away. I’ve had great experiences with Burbank CA and especially Upland service. For some reason my artwork disappeared and never returned for all music sources and they couldn’t fix it remotely except saying a full reset which I won’t do.
    It’s just an amazing car. Yes I’d love a better sound system but this is still very good. And the only thing I disagree with is that I think there will still be most cars coming with a range if 300 or 400 as a norm. Not because it’s so needed but because people are obsessed with range and for them to buy they’ll want range even though they don’t need it. Besides once a week and before long road trips. I only keep charged to 50% because i just don’t drive close to 100 miles a day. Some days not at all. Again thanks Drew.

    Congrats on one year! It's good that you guys haven't dealt with many build quality issues. My parents have a 2020 Tesla model 3 SR+ and although there aren't any creaks, they panel on the inside of the B pillar came undone and Tesla service had to glue it back into place😅. Hopefully Tesla will continue to improve build quality.

      I feel like every manufacturer has issues and it's all hit or miss. My wife got a Cadillac Lyriq a few months ago and within the first week, the one pedal driving broke. Thankfully, they gave her a loaner Lyriq...WHOSE ONE PEDAL DRIVING ALSO BROKE!!! I feel like for the cheapest car ownership experience, get yourself a used Tesla Model 3, maybe 3 years old. Someone else took the depreciation hit, you're still going to get at least 8 good years out of it, then you can sell it a repeat. I used to say get something like a gas Honda Civic, but you really have to make sure to get rid of gas cars after 100K miles, because after that, they're just money pits.

    Age absolutely impacts rates w most insurance carriers. I’ve worked at multiple, and each year it changes slightly and then larger decreases until mid 30s, and more if married… then when over 50 it starts to go up slightly. Can be different for different carriers tho. Glad you’re enjoying the M3, and tires are wearing well.

    I had a BMW 5 series. I had to replace the radiator,fuel pump, water pump, battery, brakes and rotors. Plus $100 oil changes. My car had different size wheels on the front and back which was $500 for 4 no name tires. Fortunately we were able to do some of the work but it was still expensive. I bought the car with 50k miles on it. I spent almost as much on repairs as I did purchasing the vehicle. Car was great to drive but never again.

    We’re at 93k km on our 2022 up here in Canada. No issues with cold weather or snow (good winter tires). Averaging 163kwh/km since new. On full charge the GOM used to show 438km it now shows 421km and has been doing so for a long time. We ate through our first set of both stock and winter tires (lead foot). Replaced the summer set with Michelin PS4 ev from Costco. 40% less $ than OEM Michelin tire and made the ride over small bumps much smoother. Bought a second set of Pirellis (OEM) for the winter, they perform very well.
    Looking to buy a second Tesla to replace our ICE vehicle. Was planning to buy a RWD Y but now that the new 3 is out, I’m torn.

    Perhaps it’s because I am in California, but I save over $2,500 a year alone not buying gas. Determining this saving by comparing our energy costs to charge our Tesla and then using the miles driven (25,200 miles) and dividing the miles driven by the 25 miles per gallon we get with our ICE car and then multiplying that with the average gas price over the past year. Over the past 5 years (2018-2023) we have saved over $12,800 over these 5 years, not including any maintenance savings given all the ICE maintenance costs.

    Own a 2021 model 3 sr+ 45,000 miles. bought for $39,000 @ 2.49 interest rate. Washington state pay $.08 per kwh of electricity vs $5 per gallon of gas. So about $35 per month to charge driving an average of 16000 miles per year. Insurance is $75 per month. registration is $275 per year to make up for gas tax. overall I have saved over $7000k in fuel compared to 30 MPG vehicle or $9000k in fuel compared to 24 MPG. Only maintenance replaced tires at 35,000 miles for $1300 because I have a led foot. Free tire rotations though. Overall great investment and cheaper to drive than any midsize ICE vehicle.

    @strangerdanger1012 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Insurance normally is rated on a 6 month basis. When you get a quote or whatever the case may be, you're getting a 6 month rate that's split into payments either 4-5 months etc. Comparing insurance on monthly payment basis is completely useless as every company offers different payment plans and some charge a "processing fee" for having a monthly payment as opposed to paying 6 month premiums from the get go. You need to look at your insurance declaration page to see what your 6 month cost is. Reason your monthly would drop is because your insurance renewed and you were rerated at 6 months. Either the insurance price is lower, you got some continued loyalty discount or simply could be the way your payments were split up initially vs at renewal, heck your 6 month premium might be higher but if you got an extra month of payments, monthly would be lower. So comparing monthly payments is useless and so many people make this mistake. You can have insurance that's $1000 for 6 months but split into 6 payments at $166.66 per month or you could have insurance that's $800 split into 4 payments at $200.00 per month, clearly the 2nd one is cheaper even though it's $200/month.

    Agree with you so much and your detailed videos are one of the reason I got a M3 in March but I’m going to disagree with you on something. I’m not sure it shows your points as effective when you compare your cost of ownership with you old 2007 sonata with this M3. When looking at cost of ownership it’s always cheaper to drive a 2007 Sonata compared to a 2023 Sonata. Most of the costs above are affected by the cost of the new car. It’s your situation but doesn’t provide much context when talking about comparing cost of ICE vs EV. Btw, still a good overall video like the rest I mostly watch, keep it up!

  • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
    @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video. One thing I'll point out with your comparisons is that you can't compare a Tesla to a used Hyundai Sonata and use that as a reflection of the cost of ICE vs EV! A Tesla Model 3 RW compares much better to a BMW 328i or something like that. And yeah, it sucks that many states are adopting the "EV tax" when you go to register you car, but I obviously understand why they do it. My state still isn't doing it yet, but I know it's only a matter of time.
    We're working on getting solar panels and geothermal at the same time and I just love the fact that we can have our "gas" and home heating and cooling paid for (for the most part) by solar. Where I live, electricity has gone up from $0.14 per kWh to $0.22 just in three years and I like, as much as possible, to be able to be self-sufficient and not have my budget affected by whether or not a dictator wakes up and decides he wants to invade another country with a special military operation!

    Most people still don't understand that difference between standard range and long range is not important. On a road trip, you can still drive for 3 hours and charge for 20 mins. It is same regardless of the range (unless you are talking about Model S). Difference between Model 3 SR and Model Y LR is $10k. It is not worth the upgrade.

    my 22' LFP i picked up in august of 2022 showed 272 on delivery day. Never showed that again. Was 265/266 for 6 months. Now 15 months later, it shows 258 at full SOC. Little over 5% loss in a year. sure not that bad...but kind of a slap in the face when it has like 6k miles on it lol. One thing about EV as apposed to ICE, is that electricity rates are much more stable than gas prices. It would be much easier to budget. Gas prices fluctuate wildly for every imaginable reason, form hurricanes, to refinery shut downs. Currently gas is about $5.75 gal, when it was about $1 less a few months ago and even less than that earlier in the year. It's time to go EV for sure.

    lol so cheap! in Colorado I paid 1100 for registration and 155 a month for insurance. I have the same car and the biggest discounts available. That being said, new cars cost similar amounts here. We also get 5k in incentives in Colorado in addition to the 7.5k in federal. I did the math and we are being paid to drive our Tesla. 😂 We had the same issue with the drivers door. They just put foam tape under the seal 🙄, total waste of time. I fixed it myself. I adjusted the tilt of the window and moved the door stricker in a few mm and it’s mostly gone. I also found several lose bolts, including the ones that secure the battery. I just tightened them myself. Not going back to Tesla service ever again. Absolutely horrendous.

      If you are willing to wait, then I think it would be a better way to save money. However, one big advantage of EVs is potential energy independence. You can generate energy through home solar, something you can’t do with any gas car for cheap. Every solar solution, even a full off grid system, would offset its own cost in under 10 years. Something I strongly encourage you to consider regardless of what vehicle you remain with.

    • @rejoice37
      @rejoice37 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@battery_wattage solar isn’t a good option in Florida since we can’t go off grid and ur still paying for electricity plus now the solar panels. It's a major downgrade compared to the m3 lfp. Less miles real world than even the lfp m3 due to charging limits for nca and degradation rates. Lfp you get the full advertised 272. Nca you don't get the full 279 advertised.

    $666 is ironic! state of california charges ~ $0.50 per gal tax. so if you drive 12K miles a year @ 30 MPG, that's 400 Gallons. 400 Gallons x $0.50 = $200 fuel tax per year. so $666 is excessive. FYI...our 2021 M3 registration went UP, not down.
