    Coming from a first-time player into this series, I was introduced to Metro Exodus for free through my PS5 but had no idea about the game, I played the first ten minutes (by the way which was great) then a buddy of mine asked if I played the other two, I was like wait what? So I bought the redux remastered versions of 2033 and last light for 12 bucks and beat the first one currently working on last light. MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO PLAY THE FIRST TWO, they are incredible storytelling and an awesome character to follow throughout his journey. Great video! Glad I picked the first two up!

    Just wanted to (unnecessarily) second Gopher's suggestion here. I played Metro Last Light when it came out. And a couple of weeks ago decided to play '2033' and revisit 'Last Light' but their 'Redux' versions.
    Not only the gameplay is solid, smooth and engaging but in the Redux versions, you feel like you are playing a game released in 2018-2019. They don't feel aged at all. So as Gopher said, do not rob yourself of the immense pleasure, that is the previous games.
    p.s. Regarding the Redux verses Original versions; Everyone suggested to me to play 2033 Redux, but there were people who insisted Last Light Original looked better. Having played both, I can't really say. My original Last Light playthrough was on low settings and 15 FPS ... so ... :D
    I hope you guys have fun playing these games.

      @@warriorcrab1319 I played(and own)2033,but never finished it,so I dont truly know the differences between that & Redux which im playing now. Is it like Dark Souls II where they moved enemies,added enemies,changed some mechanics,things of that nature?? drtbag39
      They remade 2033 in Last Light’s engine, so all the quality of life enhancements are there (weapon mods, etc) It’s not just graphical, but it’s not quite the same as DkS2.
      The old game had to split bigger areas into smaller chapter. In 2033 Redux, a bunch of these of been made into single, large areas.
      There are one or two things that og 2033 players might find make the redux easier in spots, but imo it’s for the best.
      In the original, if you got spotted in stealth once, every enemy from then on magically knew where you were. “Harder”, but silly... and frustrating because then you miss out on all the cool lore and story you can eavesdrop on thru the levels.
      Just play it in Survival mode and either Hardcore or Ranger Hardcore (depending on how you feel about not having a UI. The controls are weird, so you’ll need to look them up without a UI!).
      You’ll find the game plenty hard and scary. Could be it wouldn’t be hard enough to challenge later playthroughs for you like the og did for some ppl, I doubt so but maybe, except that doesn’t matter in this case! You’re moving straight on to Last Light and Exodus, anyway.

    I absolutely fucking love Last Light.
    2033 had one big advantage over the others, and that was the lonesome aspect of it. Artyom feels alone and defenceless there more than the other two. Last Light improved upon the combat and exploration more than anything, and Exodus feels like a good progression of the story.
    Overall, they're all good.

  • @WastedPot

    I played my 1st play through on the hardest difficulty with the no HUD mode on top of that. It was challenging but totally worth the struggle. I recommend playing the older games before Exodus because as of this moment, with the news as is. Exodus is shaping up to be a very different experience to the two originals. The OG games are a must. They stand the test of time looking and feeling good. The story is wacky but in a totally awesome way. One of the best depictions of a post apocalyptic world. I'm excited for Exodus.

    I need to give Metro another try. I played 2033 but gave up on it a while in for two main reasons. One, the mostly lonely tunnel shooter feel isn't so much my thing, so Exodus being more above ground definitely has my attention. Two, I knew from friends to take my time, explore, look around to enjoy the game to its fullest, but this was at odds with trying to conserve air filters. Immersive and atmospheric absolutely, but no matter how much I might know I have more filters than I need to explore everything or so on, having that ticking clock kind of killed the idea of looking around for me. Still, very well made game for sure.

    • @JC-li8kk
      @JC-li8kk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I almost ran out of filters just trying to find a way to get across the little river at the beginning. I kept wondering what I would do if I did run out and never made it across. Luckily I made it about 30 seconds before my last filter expired. At least there are times you don’t need a mask. But then it seems like infinite monster spawns and limited ammo also force you to rush. Shame b/c I do love the atmosphere. But I guess in reality the post apocalyptic world isn’t going to wait for you to enjoy its atmosphere before killing you.

    what wasn't mentioned in the video (maybe it was and I missed it) is how these games, more than any other I've played, create the most immersive, claustrophobic and terrifying atmosphere. You will dread having to go to the surface, because you'll have to put your mask on and the heavy breath of your character alone will stress you out so much. It's really intense and so well done
    I also love the world building in these games. Tiny details of how the people have adapted to a life in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro are so meticulous that it's almost charming, while being depressing at the same time. Every second makes it so evident that these games are based on a series of books

    I find the fact that Metro Exodus is happening above the ground really exciting. And considering the open-world-ish segments, I'm getting a Stalker vibe which makes it all the better. It will hopefully scratch a decade old itch for me ... which otherwise will remain unscratched till 2021.
    Also, it's a shame the game won't have modding tools. That would've made it extra special; but I understand that's too much to ask.

    • @gabrielpadro5589
      @gabrielpadro5589 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dirtbag-Hyena Yes and no. Stalker is a trilogy of first person, open-ish shooters that shears a lot of similarities to metro. However, it was made and published by a separate company and came out years before metro 2033 was released. Still many fans of Stalker are fans of Metro and vice versa so if you are curious you can buy them in Steam and GOG for cheap.
      Be warned however; the Stalker games are pretty old at this point and are dated in some aspects. If you want to play them I personally recommend downloading and installing the Stalker Complete series of total conversion mods before you start playing. The mods improves and modernizes the games in many aspects while also retaining the atmosphere and style of the original games that made them the beloved cult classics they now are.

    • @MultiMarek47
      @MultiMarek47 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dare to disagree with the Complete series, since they are outdated and no longer supported. ZRP, SRP and PRP are a three small Bug Fix Mods, which are for all three games.
      So, Shadow of Chernobyl has Zone Reclamation Project, Clear Sky has Sky Reclamation Project and Call of Pripyat has the Pripyat Reclamation Project. SoC Complete is from 2009 and the ZRP has a ton of new fixes, which Complete, don't have, so I can't recommend it. The CS Complete is from 2010 and the SRP have fixed a massive amount of issues and made the CS playable to begin with so its better as well. Cop Complete is a very bad mod to begin with and not even the community rating on Moddb is high as for other two mods.
      All three Complete Mods use the ZRP, SRP and PRP, but very old versions, and merging mods is not a good idea, since there are way better options than ancient and obsolete Complete Mod series.

      Well the first two games had a large element of 'survival' already. Scavenging for filters and ammo was a major focus especially in 2033 :) It's going to depend on how it is implemented, how much and in what way it affect narrative flow etc. If it makes you use resources carefully instead of just wandering around the world without a care spraying bullets then it should be good once more. If it is a grind fest of boredom that is needed just to get any where, then it will not.

    On the other hand. I loved the first two games so much, even played them on some ridiculous difficulties. Liked them to no end about their visuals, atmosphere, sound, gunplay, progression and so on. Now I feel the nostalgia bar is set too high with this one. Will I be dissapointed in the third game?
    Will the new players that played the first two games back to back prior to playng this feel simmilar to this? A little bornout? Or be eager to play them all? Who knows.
    Anyways, I think, you can dive into this series with a 50 hr experience, play the first two games and wait for the third, or jump in knowning nothing what's going on. But you should not do it essencialy. The Witcher does it. Metro doesn't.
    Just play them.

    Gopher,I started the game(Metro 2033)on normal ranger. I got to the Cursed Metro & wanted it harder & challenging & I read that both the enemies & I do more damage on hardcore ranger,so less bullets. So I switched. 10min in I go to use my mask & no HUD🤤 I couldnt remember what all the keys were & I thought I found the 1st bug,so I restarted the game....About 4x🙄
    Then I was like Ohhhh,yea😶
    So,that is my only problem with starting the game on hardcore ranger is my memory SUCKS,but I do have it pretty well memorized now,just in the dark,when something jumps out at you😱 Sometimes I cant always think straight. I dont know how many times I took my mask off when I wanted to throw a grenade😂😶😁
    Definitely not as hard as I thought it would be though,I sat there for a good 20min trying to ascertain weather or not I could do it straight out the gate,turns out I can. The hardest thing is bullets are scarce & NO PANIC FIRING!! Oh-crap shooting wastes tons of ammo,who woulda guessed🙄😁✌

    My two cents, I agree with Mr. G. you _should_ play the first two first. If for no other reason than they have gotten better in each iteration and have a narrative through-line, so best to play the older games first, rather than the newest and get frustrated that the previous chapters don't let you do what you can in the new one. Such as the on-the-spot weapon modication in Exodus, compared to only getting mods from the (rare) traders in 2033 and Last Light. The only _caveat_ is that it may not be for you if you have arachnaphopbia, Spiderbugs may trigger you.

  • @joearnold6881

    You can get the Redux versions of the games _free_ right now!
    If.
    If you’ve got an Xbox One X, and have a Game Pass (which at this point you ought to have or you might as well ditch the console)
    then you can get the full, remastered versions of both games for free right now.
    Play the new one on PC if you have a good machine, but the One X runs the two updated old ones flawlessly.
    (Im gonna play them again that way just as soon as I’m done with Resident Evil 2)
    Edit: you don’t need a One X. You can get them on the One, as well, they’re just not gonna run quite so smoothly.

    The METRO games are two of the best games I've ever played. The story is good and I found it to not be as predictable as many other games these days. They also have a good blend of action and stealth. And the games are hard enough to present a challenge, but not enough to be frustrating (referring both difficulty, puzzles, etc). AND the A.I isn't a badly coded bag of potatoes that give up the search after 10 seconds, or wander into a room filled with dead soldiers excusing it with "Must have been the wind".

  • @mister4721
    @mister4721 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sorry but i have to disagree with you there Gopher, I had both games on xbox and got rid of them due to the fact that i found them quite difficult to say the least. I played both of these games on Xbox 1 and found aiming weapons was extremely difficult compared to mouse and keys. Before my new computer died on me...(.to which repairing it or finding someone who could repair it cheaply was impossible, (due to cost) so it lies there collecting dust....) i could play a few games with mouse and keys and aiming weapons was very easy, but since i had to play most of my games on xbox instead. And aiming weapons i find is pretty damn difficult to say the least. Unless i play FO3 or 4 that is.
    Graphics, atmosphere effects and story were really good, but too many times i was placed into a Box like arena to fight a boss battle and this was, to my utter disappointment was more on Last light than 2033.
    I did complete metro 2033 but only just and it was like riding a bike up hill all the way, wasting tons of ammo just trying to kill what was in front of you due to the fuckin stupid aiming using the xbox controller. But i could not complete last light, I got to the part where i was forced to jump into a large area, late in the game....with no way out once i was in there.... to fight many enemy hiding in a large building behind walls, aiming was very annoying, and due to this my character got killed time and time again.
    I watched tons of videos on this scene and tried lots of tactics using stealth, but all to no avail. And on top of this i only had about 2-3 mins of air in my filters left....( and thats another thing that pissed me off in this game, every time i picked up a filter i was lucky to get more than 2 mins of air..... fucking stupid!!!! I am pretty sure i read somewhere that these things can last up to 2-3 days in real life, not a couple of fucking mins.... ) also i cant remember but you never saw anyone else in the game switching filters, only the yer character has and had to do this. And this was very annoying.
    Boss fights where you can't escape from unless you kill them....( and if you don't = GAME OVER!!) and stupid air filters are what ruined this game for me.
    I really wanted to enjoy these two games, i really did, but i found them extremely difficult on Xbox 1. To put it mildly, they didn't inspire me to play them again.
    I am not an expert using xbox, but if you don't know what i am ranting about, try these on xbox and then try them on PC and you will see what i mean about aiming any weapon....massive difference in favor of the PC. I hope they improve this on the new game otherwise i won't be buying it for sure!

      I maxed out sensitivity and thought the shooting was fine. Rationing air filters and ammo was some of the most fun I thought playing on hard. If there was no danger of running out of air there’s not to much a point of having them. Different games for different people not sure if you’ll like exodus

    • @mister4721
      @mister4721 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've watched like over 7 hours of Exodus and although it has great characters and graphics, i am not at all happy of what i have watched. I tried various players just to see how they play compared to the last one but TBH, i still was not impressed, so i won't be buying this either, shame cos i like the idea of what these games are about.
      Geez i tried everything on Last light just to finish the damn game, but to no avail. Aiming with a Controller compared to mouse and keys, for me was just too damn shitty, wasting tons of ammo, to no avail. I tried everything i could. So in the end i just gave up.But like you say, Different games for different people. Metro games are just not for me.
