      I'm hesitant about Dell too because although they come highly recommended, I've heard a lot of people complain about latency issues. I'm wondering how your search for the Asus is going as I'm having trouble finding the 17" ROG Strix with 1TB SSD in stock!? If you are on battery, since Ableton switches to GPU by default, it allowed me to use the laptop for 1.5 hours only !! It does not occur with the AKAI MPD26. I also had problems with my m-audio soundcard. I now have an RME Fireface and it runs flawlessly. So it could very well be that there are some issues there.

    I'm surprised there's no specific discussion of fan noise under sustained CPU load. Most modern laptop are plagued with whining fans. Gamers' laptops are obviously not good in that regard, but even "standard" machines may be very loud. That's rather important imo, as continuous fan noise can be VERY annoying, even when not super loud in absolute terms.

    Are you really sure the number of cores is more important than the cpu frequency? I am not an expert myself, but have read/watched others saying that the "live stream" can only pass through a single core. So they recommend high frequency over the number of cores.

    • @DexxterClarkMusic
      @DexxterClarkMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing that is true about the claim is that a plugin chain is processed in a serial way and can't be processed parallel because one plugin needs the input of another to process the sound.
      But there is much more going on in a DAW than only making sound (registering mouse clicks for example... to name just 1 of 1000 things), that benefits from more cores.
      I'll explain more here: www.learnhowtoproducemusic.com/blog-how-to-start-music-production/what-is-the-best-cpu-for-music-production-in-2020

    Hey mate, I do a Podcast with limit recording strain (I think). Just usually one voice at a time with editing effects on later on. Would you say go for an i7 with 8GB ram, or i5 with 16GB ram. I can't really afford an i7 with 16gb ram at the moment. The Huawei Matebook X Pro looks like a solid bet for me in terms of specs vs what I can afford.
