My advice to this buy your computer for what you need, not what you want. Example for rehearsals - I'm running a Dell e6410. It runs on a lightweight OS (Lubuntu), is a "huge" 8gb in memory... It has a Gen1 CPU, but upgrades have been done, so it has a bigger battery, better HDD (SSD) and I'm thinking about upgrading the second drive to an SSD. They tend to add to the heat of a computer, especially in a laptop...
for a pc user, yes you can always add/change components (although changing a processor is really hard to do down the line) But for a mac user, You need to buy for the future. everything is "soldered" into one brick
Very interesting! But what about: "Latency?" How much do I need and where can I buy some? Joking but seriously... These new AMD processors... how are they with latency? 192 kHz with 24 buffer?? Yes???
finally pulling the trigger on something I've been talking about for a decade: starting my home studio. I've been holding off because my gaming computer has been slowly dying, so I started thinking that I'd just get a laptop (or buy a whole new PC). Since this is where everything will live, I decided to start at the computer, and thus, I found your channel. Great advice. You've been truly helpful and earned yourself a sub!
Using a macbook 13 inch and producing on FL Studio guess is not the best combo. Any solutions to the overheating issue? Within minutes my laptop overheats and I can hear the noise in my voice recordings which frustrates the hell outta me. I'm on a low budget now so I can't buy another computer, I will in the long run though cause I'm sick of this :\
the mbp13" is quite notorious for overheating (although many in the comments have called me names for mentioning it). It's a hardware thing, you can't do anything about it. Maybe sell it and buy a windows machine??? BTW The 16" MBP has better heat distribution.
I built a gaming PC with MSI X570 Unify motherboard, water-cooled Ryzen 9 3900X 12 core/24 thread CPU, water-cooled 5700 XT GPU, 64 GB for DDR4 3600 MT/s CL 14 Ram, and a 2TB NVMe gen4 M.2 boot drive and 4TB of NVMe gen3 M.2 for storage. I figure that should work well enough for creating music.
@@DexxterClarkMusic It's running great. I'm a certified PC tech and I've been building PCs for a long time. To date I've built 368 gaming PCs. Many of them water cooled via custom loops.
Dexxter Clark read it but still no clear answer. Music production is very intensive and all have to be done in one order and another. See it like making a pizza. You can’t bake it while your still busy making the dough. Video editing is different. That relies heavy on post processing do a multi core will do the job.
Waiting 8 weeks for my next imac 5k i9 maxed processor and cores, 2 TB ssd fusion is a no no, 64 GB from crucial (I heard you can go 128 but I’m worried about heat and warranty) , two monitor setup for mix and tracking 27 inch and iMac 27 monitor, Thunderbolt Apollo interface, smart wireless keyboard includes number pad for nudge controls with protools, Magic Mouse is fine..this is my home work bot, in the studio it’s all protools hdx still and trash can pros, also run ableton live 10 and studio one 5 at home, logic is also great. I did hear ableton is making a slow departure from Apple since they annually change the OS X which really does suck, it wouldn’t be bad if we could use older software on newer machines but I just shelled out an additional $2300 for updates for native Instruments komplete 12, Ableton upgrade, atruria v collection and auto tune pro but prefer melodyne 5, but nothing works with Catalina, so it’s Mojave’s until Big Sur, and then who the hell knows but I don’t blame ableton more developers should speak up so that the software updates are improvements and more features instead of just finally approved for the Apple dictatorship
Loving your video mate really educational. You mentioned 1TB minimum, do you think having a 500GB SSD on the Mac and then a 1TB external SSD for samples etc will work just as good? Or should it be on board
Hi, appreciate your videos and the great effort you put In, very informative thank you. I have just one meningless point about cpu architecture: in the beginnings of time the x86 architecture was from Intel and authorized Amd to use it. But the actual 64bits architecture is from AMD mainly.
Thinking of getting one of HP Z workstations, either Z2 G4 mini or Z book Studio. Would you recommend one? PS don’t get Mac Mini 2020 i7 - got two and had to return both due to grinding noise, most likely due to faulty capacitors. Both were from same batch - serial started with same 4 letter number combination
Thanks a lot for sharing indepth information. I'm planning to build one. I feel, the choice of cooling fans/power supply is also important since we prefer the pc to be as quiet as possible. Any suggestions?

Thank you Dexxter. You just changed my mind about Macs. Can you comment on this computer for music production: Dell XPS 8930 Tower Desktop - 8th Gen. Intel Core i7-8700 6-Core up to 4.60 GHz, 32GB DDR4 Memory, 512GB SSD + 2TB SATA Hard Drive, 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti, Windows 10 Pro, Black?
It has 8gb ram, as I saw you said was a good starting point to not get ripped off by bigger RAM (hundreds of dollars more); it goes for $1,499 on Amazon.
Hi Dexxter, this is very informative. I want to build a PC soon, and wanted to have two drives (one for OS and programs, and the other for audio project files). I'm on a slight budget, so I'm wondering if you think the OS drive should definitely only be SSD? I was thinking of getting two large good quality 7200rpm drives for both drives, but I'm not sure if this will be noticeable compared to having a SSD?
it works with 2x 7200RPM drives without a doubt, but to make things faster and snappier, I would choose one smaller SSD for the OS and the rest on a separate 7200RPM hd. Or choose a hybrid SSD/HDD drive
I'm hoping to get some tips on what would be sufficient for a inexpensive home recording setup, quality audio, user friendly/easy to use. I'm looking at a HP 8100 PC desktop windows 10 512GB SSD i5 CPU and 16GB RAM I've never been a computer guy and my knowledge of computers or programs is very minimal. I've heard Reaper is user friendly, I was thinking of getting a MacBook and also trying Logic untill I learned that Reaper has problems working with OSX. I'd be grateful to hear anyone's opinions.
Dexxter Clark , bedankt.
Mvg, Krimson
Good question! Yes it could (I'm thinking of latency), but generally speaking I've not heard of problems with particular chipsets. Potential problems could be fixed with a BIOS update

I using FLStudio since 2003 now. I noticed that Intel works better with that DAW than a AMD. In past i used FLStudio on a Laptop.. while producing it burned something and the Computer was broken.. - I bought a new Computer.. also was an AMD.. i produced... flashes comes from my power adapter and smoke climbs up the air.. - I changed to a Intel Laptop.. yes.. it was a bit better, no burns.. no smoke.. but clipping Sound when use too much VSTs... so i sold that Laptop.. - then i build my first own PC with an Intel Core2 9650 Extreme with a separate Soundcard (Creative Sound Blaster Z) .. - Yes it was much better. Less Latency but very bass heavy sound.. i not liked it.. it was too much bass.. - then i changed my Soundcard to an Asus Xonar DX2 PCI Soundcard.. the Latency was under 2 Milliseconds and the Sound of that Card was really great.. - then i changed the System again to an Intel i7-7700K.. and it was hard to find a Mainboard for that Socket where i can run the Asus Soundcard (because PCI was dying - everything changed to PCI-Express).. but i found a Mainboard which had an old PCI Slot .. it was from Asus too - The System worked very well with FLStudio, but then the Mainboard broke after some months of use, but gladly i had warranty on it.. the dumb was... they not had that Mainboard anymore for exchange... so i got my Money back and i had to change again.. now i have one of the new Mainboards without PCI... it only have PCI-Express... so i not can use that great Asus Soundcard anymore (i still have it.. maybe someday i will build a other Computer).. but the Soundchip on the Mainboard is powerful.. i can work with 24-Bits and 48000kHz.. and more if i want... it sounds great, but now again... when use too much VSTs.. Sound is clipping... now i ordered a USB-Interface from Steinberg (U22C) and i hope i now will have my Peace with all of that.. especially the 32-Bit and 192kHZ are very interesting to me, because i like crystal clear Sound where i can hear from where direction every single Sound comes from.

Oh a word of advice, don't use a huge SSD. They tend to add to the heat of a computer, especially in a laptop...
for a pc user, yes you can always add/change components (although changing a processor is really hard to do down the line)
But for a mac user, You need to buy for the future. everything is "soldered" into one brick
Dude, is that winter outside?
Please,what about Ryzen 5 3600??
Very interesting!
But what about: "Latency?" How much do I need and where can I buy some?
Joking but seriously...
These new AMD processors... how are they with latency?
192 kHz with 24 buffer?? Yes???
AMD and cubase are not a good combinations, I tried it with last generation zen architecture and it was not good... not sure how this gen is...
finally pulling the trigger on something I've been talking about for a decade: starting my home studio.

How is your experience with the machine?
@@DexxterClarkMusic It's running great. I'm a certified PC tech and I've been building PCs for a long time. To date I've built 368 gaming PCs. Many of them water cooled via custom loops.
Hey! What's more important when choosing a cpu? Core amount or core speed?
both. see www.learnhowtoproducemusic.com/blog-how-to-start-music-production/what-is-the-best-cpu-for-music-production-in-2020
You also should get the latest generation of processors
What is the best choice for music prodution
As much cores as possible? In fact that doesn’t matter. The DAW can only use one core at the time.
not true.
I'll explain here:
www.learnhowtoproducemusic.com/blog-how-to-start-music-production/what-is-the-best-cpu-for-music-production-in-2020
Dexxter Clark read it but still no clear answer. Music production is very intensive and all have to be done in one order and another. See it like making a pizza. You can’t bake it while your still busy making the dough. Video editing is different. That relies heavy on post processing do a multi core will do the job.
Do you have any thoughts about hp Omen 17.3 16gb 1tb 512ssd
thanks g keep it up, good info
thank you :)
Awesome video.
Thanks for the visit
So what computer?
Hi, appreciate your videos and the great effort you put In, very informative thank you.
I have just one meningless point about cpu architecture: in the beginnings of time the x86 architecture was from Intel and authorized Amd to use it.
But the actual 64bits architecture is from AMD mainly.

Thanks a lot for sharing indepth information. I'm planning to build one. I feel, the choice of cooling fans/power supply is also important since we prefer the pc to be as quiet as possible. Any suggestions?
1tb fusion drive vs 256 ssd (due to budget) which one should I get?
fusion drive, it is a tiny amount less quick but with 256GB you install 3 plugins, your DAW and your samples and your storage is full

It has 8gb ram, as I saw you said was a good starting point to not get ripped off by bigger RAM (hundreds of dollars more); it goes for $1,499 on Amazon.
Sorry, $1,999 NEW, $1,499 Used - Very Good; I'm not a fan of buying used ...
10th gen is out already, otherwise 9th gen processor.
Ram: if you can expand later, you could do it later
@@DexxterClarkMusic thanks a lot I got 9th from Dell website cheaper than Amazon
I'd be grateful to hear anyone's opinions.
choose the i7

Glad to hear that
Hey!!! Geweldige video. Heb jij noch altijd dezelfde opinie over de MacBook Pro 2020, i5. Core en 16GB Ram met 1T SSD?
neem een i7 en de 16" en meer RAM, je kunt niet meer uitbreiden
Dexxter Clark , bedankt. Dus zou dit model: 2.0GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
Intel Iris Plus Graphics-niet belangrijk
16GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory
Mvg, Krimson
I got AMD Ryzen 3900 12 Core
64 gb ram (124 soon)

@@DexxterClarkMusic I’m not pushing it tho... I can have my daw open with ONE track, no plugins, and still get crackles
Does motherboard sound chipset matter?
Good question!
Yes it could (I'm thinking of latency), but generally speaking I've not heard of problems with particular chipsets.

Help...need a new computer...
